20 Best Bangkok Hotels, From Grande Dames to Converted Canal Homes | Condé Nast Traveler

"Located steps from the Grand Palace and Wat Po, I appreciated how the hotel maximizes views of Wat Arun—from the open-walled lobby restaurant to all-glass bathrooms—and the roof deck offers 360-degree river-and-temple vistas. The 15 guest rooms pair black walls and hardwood floors with crisp white linens and minimalist furnishings; in the River View Suite I could watch the sunset turn temple roofs purple from a soaking tub." - Jenny Adams

SALA Rattanakosin

"Why book? Minimalist, chic design and floor-to-ceiling glass make way for historic views of the Chao Phraya’s colorful boats and Wat Arun—Bangkok’s most photogenic temple. Set the scene Set in the heart of Bangkok’s royal quarter, this hotel is mere steps away from The Grand Palace and the famous Reclining Buddha of Wat Po. Tourist attractions abound—from colorful boutique shops to enticing coffee roasters—many housed in the pale-yellow, former government buildings. Yet, as you stroll down the side alleys around the hotel, you can’t escape that this is still the real Bangkok. You will pass street food hawkers chatting with day laborers, incense smoldering in small shrines, towering bags of spices headed for export and plenty of street cats, sunning beneath the laundry hanging out of open windows. The dichotomy of tourism and commerce keeps this location appealing for those seeking an authentic submersion in the city. The backstory The SALA brand has become synonymous across Thailand over the last half decade for offering luxury accommodations in small, stunning packages. The group has properties in multiple destination towns and cities, from the old capital of Ayutthaya to the island of Phuket. At Sala Rattanakosin, the striking views of Wat Arun across the Chao Phraya are maximized at every turn, from the open walls of the lobby restaurant to the all-glass bathrooms. On the roof deck, 360-degree views give you unobstructed river views, as well as an opposing view, down on glittering, red-and-gold tiled temple roofs of the Wat Po complex. Custom tours take guests around the city in style, whether it's puttering along in the tiny canals in a private longtail boat or sampling street foods on a guided bike tour of a night market. While the hotel celebrates the frenzied, colorful nature of Bangkok’s riverside, every point of modern luxury service has also been considered for the guests here, from sound proofed windows to rain showers to dry cleaning and complimentary umbrellas. The rooms The 15 guest rooms feature black walls and black, hardwood floors. Crisp, white linens and white curtains are a striking counterpoint, with texture arriving in unfinished, stone support beams. The Zen, minimalist furnishings make way for the views through seamless windows. There is no bad choice, but there are better choices. In the most affordable rooms, you’ll sacrifice a little floorplan and those epic views, but given that you get them in the first-floor restaurant and from the roof at cocktail hour (and even from the second-floor public bathrooms), you never feel deprived. The Wat Po Deluxe rooms, which face away from the river, actually give you a very striking, colorful view of tropical plants and the intricate, tiled chedis of this famous temple complex. The larger, river-facing rooms are a worthy splurge. The most opulent choice is River View Suite, where you can watch the sunset turn the temple bright purple from the comfort of your soaking tub. Food and drink Expect to meet a few foodie expats in the small Eatery & Bar restaurant here. Despite having a few chef turnovers, the food has remained inventive and lauded. That aforementioned view, exposed brick walls, comfortable leather armchairs and fine-dining service set quite the scene for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Each menu proffers a few western options. However, this is a stellar opportunity to dig into excellent, authentic Thai dishes (no punches held on sour or spice), and the Thai Wok Omelet with blue crab and morning glory at breakfast is exceedingly memorable. Take the interior, metal spiral staircase to the roof each evening, just prior to sunset. Request a local craft beer, like the Bangkok-brewed Whale Pale Ale, or a Chao Phraya Gin Fizz with Makrut lime leaf. Then, find a chair and get your phone ready. This is arguably a Top 10 place in the world to catch a sunset. The neighborhood/area Strolling the narrow alleyways around Sala Rattanakosin will introduce you to every type of person you’d ever meet in Bangkok. There’s the upmarket tourist couple and the equally the scruffy backpacker set. Construction workers hang off scaffolding, paint brushes in hand, and hawkers sell fresh pomegranate juice, pork satay, and spicy Tom Yum Goong from chrome carts beneath faded umbrellas. You’ll wait for tuk-tuks alongside Thai lawyers in suits, government workers in yellow Polo shirts, as well as young college students. The service The service at Sala is seamless and friendly, and from arrival, the front desk staff feels more like a group of friends than a removed set of hotel employees. Expect enthusiastic greetings when you come and go, as well as insider tips for a city they clearly love to promote. Need to score a great dinner recommendation and then table at said venue? Leave it them. You’re in capable hands. Accessibility There are no elevators and rooms begin on the second floor, up a wide spiral staircase. Anything left to mention? First time in Bangkok? An excellent choice for meandering to the city’s biggest tourist draws. Sixth time in Bangkok? Equally excellent, as you’d miss nothing simply lounging in your bed, watching the river traffic from the picture window." - Jenny Adams

sala rattanakosin Bangkok (Bangkok, Central Thailand) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sitting on prime real estate on the eastern bank of Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River, Sala Rattanakosin is a boutique beauty just a ten-minute walk from both the Grand Palace and the Wat Po temple, with its famous reclining Buddha. The hotel’s rooms come dressed in a muted black and white motif, letting the dazzling views of the river, Wat Po, or Wat Arun provide the entertainment. A rooftop bar offers the same panorama, as well as a menu of small bites and sandwiches. The hotel’s elegant, exposed-brick restaurant serves traditional Thai cuisine, peppered with Italian favorites." - Tablet Hotels

Exceptional experience! From the moment we arrived at Sala Rattanakosin, we were impressed. During check-in, Nong Sam was incredibly prompt, polite, and patient in answering all my questions. His warm and thoughtful service really set the tone for my stay. The location is absolutely prime- the view is breathtaking, and the hotel is only a 2-minute walk to Tha Tien Pier, just across from Wat Pho, and very close to the Grand Palace. It couldn’t be more convenient. Both Nong Sam and Nong Can provided outstanding service throughout our stay. They were attentive, kind, and always ready to help, making the entire experience even more memorable. Highly recommended!

This hotel is amazing! I don’t understand those people who are complaining about the entrance. It’s not difficult to get at all. The taxi drivers got us almost to the entrance. And yes there is no elevator, you have to walk the stairs, but the hotel provides a porter who brings your luggage to the room and helps you to bring it down when you are checking out. The room is clean, bright and super convenient. And the view is awesome! You can enjoy the Wat Arun during the daytime and in the evening sitting on a sofa with air conditioning, while other tourists trying to get the pictures on the crowded bank riverside. There is a spectacular restaurant 1 min walk called Home cafe Tha Tien. The food is super delicious and very cheap. Breakfast at the hotel is a la carte and unbelievably tasty and beautifully served. You can enjoy your morning coffee while looking at Wat Arun.

Everything was great, we were surprised there isnt an elevator but the staff helped us with all of our luggage. They also assist us with a reservation we made for a baby cot. The water in the shower wasn't great, the temperature wasn't stable, it was very hot for a second then it became cold then hot again and so on, i took a very short shower.

the hotel interior was great and the service impeccable, everyone was very friendly and eager to help. the outside was a little shady, but I was told by my travel partner that it was normal. the view from my room wasn't great, but both the rooftop bar and the restaurant views were amazing. the rooms are very small and does not have a place to empty a suitcase. overall, 4.5 stars rounded up to 5

This hotel was only decided on a few days before the trip. After reading the reviews, we found it acceptable — good hotel, delicious food Upon arriving at the hotel entrance, it was a bit of a shock. The entrance looked like a 2-star hotel. Then we discovered there was no elevator, just one bar and one restaurant. The only upside was that our favorite massage place was only a 2-minute walk away. 😁Once we got into the room, it was actually quite acceptable. The view outside the window was of Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha). In the evening, we went up to the rooftop to enjoy the view — you could see Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) at a glance. The breeze was cool and refreshing; it really lifted our spirits.Every dish at dinner was 👍 — the colors were appealing, the taste was delicious. This restaurant is truly worth recommending. Even the breakfast was surprisingly good. The food at this hotel is definitely up to standard. At sunset, Wat Arun lit up beautifully, making it a perfect photo spot. For travelers who have been to Bangkok countless times, this is truly a great place to slow down and relax.

I stayed six nights in the Wat Pho Deluxe Room – overlooking the golden reclining Buddha. A view that carries history, stillness, and energy all at once. As a conscious traveller (and author always tuned into spaces and their frequency), I felt truly received here. ||What touched me most were the details: an elegant room design (wood, marble, thoughtful textures), an outstanding breakfast experience (Sala Signature & à la carte that easily matches 5-star hotels), and many small attentions – from a handwritten welcome to fresh juices. Kew and Ohm from the restaurant deserve a special mention – their presence and kindness uplifted my mornings.||The riverside location has its own rhythm: lively, sometimes noisy, yet undeniably Bangkok. The narrow alley entrance is not for everyone, but once inside, you step into another world.||As someone who values conscious luxury, I’d love to see a little more eco-awareness in housekeeping (fresh sheets are wonderful, but every 2–3 days is more than enough – and lights don’t need to shine all day when a Queen shines her own light ✨).||Overall: an inspiring, soul-rich boutique hotel that holds you with warmth and presence. I left feeling nourished, grounded, and very much at home.||Would I return? Absolutely – this is a Bangkok gem.

The Owner needs to do something with lobby and entrance. It look so dirty ,And Who is the manager and responsible for cleaning maintenance ? There are cleaning supplies in every corner of the restaurant. Some kind of warehouse of things, buckets, mops, boxes. It's very dirty.
