The Salad House Westfield just opened in the venerable old Robert Treat Deli space on Quimby St. There was a lame grilled cheese shoppe previously at this location, but if you blinked, you missed it. The Salad House chain also has restaurants in Millburn and Morristown.
The takeout menu includes signature and build-your-own chopped salads, soups, sandwiches, wraps, paninis, flatbreads, and small plates. There is something here for everyone to eat. Beverages are limited to fountain sodas, bottled sodas, bottled sweetened iced teas, and bottled water.
I had a small kale & white bean soup (about 6 oz., $3). It was good, but a tiny portion. I also had an apple walnut salad (romaine, chicken, apples, walnuts, craisins, and blue cheese), with balsamic dressing served on the side. The portion was ample, and it tasted very fresh. However, it was so finely chopped that the ingredients were almost unrecognizable. At least I didn't have to put too much effort into chewing.
My wife had a Cobb salad, and other than the fresh avocado on top, it looked just like mine. Two salads, one small soup, and a 1/2 liter of bottled water was $28.00.
The space is modern and clean. I do like the concept and the menu. I think it will be a good fit in Westfield, and I intend to return to try more of their food.
