"The 1830s Georgiansandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place have been converted into more than a dozen galleries and performance spaces. There are also artists’ studios brimming with jewelry and other creations—look for wood-and-bead necklaces by Rosalie Malham and timeless tunics bydesigner Leonie Struthers. On Saturdays, more than 300 food and craft vendors are on hand tosell their wares atthe Salamanca Market."

A fantastic collection of arts spaces and shop set over two levels. There are shops with high quality original works including glass making, painting, sculpture, fabrics and ceramics. There is a small theatre and plenty to see and do. Just off the popular Salamanca Place, it’s in the heart of this artistic and creative district.

The Salamanca Arts Centre is where stone and soul intertwine—an oasis of creativity nestled within Hobart’s historic heart. Beneath the weathered sandstone walls, time seems to soften, giving way to whispers of paintbrushes, music, and movement. It is not merely a gallery, but a living tapestry of art and spirit. Each corridor invites quiet wonder; each gallery door opens to a world of imagination. Local artists breathe life into canvas and clay, while visiting exhibitions stir thought and emotion. You don’t just see art here—you feel it, layered in textures, tones, and tales. Studios hum with the rhythm of creation, their windows flickering with dreams in progress. The resident artists and makers, grounded yet visionary, make this place feel like a pulse in the city’s chest. On weekends, music drifts through the air, mingling with the laughter of markets and the hush of reverent footsteps. The Centre holds space for all—wanderers, seekers, and lovers of the arts. Workshops, performances, and community gatherings enrich its ever-evolving narrative. The staff, warm and deeply knowledgeable, act as quiet stewards of this sanctuary. To walk through the Salamanca Arts Centre is to walk through stories made visible. It is a place where creativity finds home—and invites you to linger a little longer.

This is an art hub and cultural space, making use of the row of the Georgian period warehouses at Salamanca Place which were refurbished and repurposed in 1976 as The Salamanca Arts Centre (SAC), creating space for visual and performance arts venues, galleries as well as alleys with boutique and interesting retail shops, coffee shops, cafes, studios and art galleries. It is neat place to check out while exploring around the Salamanca Precinct as a tourist and potentially a good spot to take in an art event as well. See the SAC website for details on what might be taking place at the time of your intended visit.

The Arts centre has a cafe, performing arts space, boutique galleries and retail outlets where you can buy direct from the artists and gallery owner. The Tricycle Cafe is quaint yet provides a wide selection of tasty food & beverages. The performance space and theatre host live theatre and film productions. Clean amenities with easy access. We enjoyed our visit and brunch.

A great selection of shops with affordably priced items. Lots of lovely unique things to choose from. Going there on a Sunday morning was great as it was very quiet. The designers are at many of the shops so you get to talk to them about their creations. I visited with my daughter shopping for 21st presents for her. One item she liked didn't fit her but the designer offered to make one to fit and post out to her. I also needed wrapping paper so popped in the Japanese shop and bought a beautiful Charm Square to use as wrapping instead so my daughter now has that too to turn into something creative herself.

Yelp
The Arts Centre is a vibrant arts community located at Hobart's Salamanca Place, close to the waterfront and a short walk from the city's central business district. They host artist studios, galleries, venues, retail outlets, arts organisations & public spaces, in historic sandstone warehouses. We wandered through alcoves lined with galleries & shops with locals for live music or see cutting edge visual art & theatre.

Yelp
SAC is a cultural hub in the heart of tourist-driven Salamanca, and is the only section of Salamanca I WANT to go when I want to get someone something beautiful. There are a bunch of gorgeous little shops and galleries under SAC's roof, all worth exploring--though if you need recommendations, my hands down favourite is Spacebar, closely followed by the maker and FIND Contemporary Jewellery Collective (please buy me anything from any of these shops and you'll be onto a winner). It would be remiss of me to not mention Bruny Island Cheese Company's little outpost shop here, too, because... well, because cheese. There's even a little cafe and a unique theatre with a natural rock wall at the back of the stage! Definitely spend some time exploring here if you're in the area.

Yelp
Well worth a visit if you like arts and crafts... there's a silversmith up one of the side streets that sells some really unique jewelry too... Great place to spend an hour or two drifting about, looking at arts and crafts, people watching and to have a coffee and a sticky bun :-)
