The Best Tuscan Wineries to Visit Near Florence, Italy

"Born from a transformative vision by Michele Manelli, this Montepulciano estate is a global model of sustainability—energy independent since 2011, farming more than 148 acres to organic standards, and pioneering the certified quantification of a bottle’s carbon footprint—while earning recognition for social responsibility. Open year-round for tours, guided and blind tastings, the property offers immersive experiences such as vertical tastings of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and a stay at the intimate Salcheto WineHouse, a six-room hotel built on a 13th-century farmhouse with heated outdoor tubs among the vines. The estate’s restaurant, Indigeno: Cucina Terrestre, emphasizes home-grown and local ingredients in rustic, ingredient-forward dishes; their Vino Nobile displays concentrated Sangiovese notes of berries, lavender and currant with a surprisingly mineral finish." - Federico De Cesare Viola

12 Best Wine Tours and Tastings in Florence | Condé Nast Traveler

"Cantina Salcheto enjoys an enviable and jaw-dropping location—in the beautiful hills of Montepulciano—and manages to toe the line between rustic and futuristic, if that's possible. The 40-acre main vineyard is Tuscany at its best: rolling hills, rich colors, and a state-of-the-art cellar that's impressive in looks and, of course, in inventory—here, you're drinking Rosso di Toscana IGT and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG. There's no food in the basic tasting, but you can upgrade to the paired tasting or enjoy lunch at Salcheto's onsite enoteca." - Erica Firpo

Booked a night here and was one of the best experiences in Tuscany. We also reserved a wine tasting where the guide told us the whole story of this place and the ingeniosity behind their sustainability efforts, and ended with trying 3 of their wines. We also stayed here for dinner - the kitchen is amazing, making everything from their own garden (and that tomato salad was surprisingly amazing) and having dinner with such a view with the sunset behind Montepulciano is an experience in itself. There was also a hot tub with a view over Montepulciano - another amazing moment, with a glass of wine. I highly recommend spending at least one night here, with the wine tasting, dinner and breakfast.

We stayed two nights at Salcheto Winehouse and it was an unforgettable experience. The accommodation is a Tuscan dream—surrounded by vineyards, with stunning views of Montepulciano right from the window. The apartments are spacious, stylish, and sustainably designed, with hot tubs in the garden that make it easy to unwind with a view. The on-site restaurant Indigeno is great, offering delicious, no-waste meals with local ingredients, and we were warmly looked after by Jessica, who made each visit special. Sofia gave us an insightful winery tour and tasting, sharing Salcheto’s philosophy and innovations in organic wine production, while Filippo helped us plan the perfect day exploring nearby towns. Umberto’s attention to detail at breakfast made mornings a joy. Everything at Salcheto reflects a deep commitment to sustainability—from the wines to the food, even down to the staff uniforms. The combination of accommodation, winery, and restaurant in one spot means you can truly relax—or head out and explore the area, with Montepulciano just 10 minutes away. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

We stayed two nights in Salcheto Wine House and it was absolutely amazing. The rooms are spacious, clean and nicely decorated and staff is super friendly. I recommend doing the wine tour to learn more about the philosophy and sustainability of the winery, and of course to taste their wine! Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were fantastic as well. Salcheto is located a short drive from Montepulciano and close to other sights in Tuscany.

What a truly beautiful agriturismo locale. They manufacture ~500K bottles of wine and do it in the best possible sustainable manner (their winemaking facilities are lit up by solar!) The rooms are spacious and very well appointed. You won't miss anything from a typical 4-5 star hotel. This is a must visit.

The place is lovely, the room was comfortable, and the view was beautiful. Great value for the price. We also did the wine tasting, which included a tour of the winery – it was interesting and unique. Highly recommended!

My husband and I stopped here for lunch and wine tasting after visiting Montepulciano. The views were so beautiful as we enjoyed their delicious wines and lunch from the terrace. The food was truly some of the best we had during our entire trip - so fresh and flavorful!

Beautiful panoramic view of Montepulciano from the terrace. Good wines at a good price. We stayed for lunch and the food was delicious and rustic. The staff was very courteous and helpful and spoke some English. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area looking for good food with great views.

Took the €25 tour of facility and wine tasting. It was amazing! I was super amazed at the sustainability this winery had with their solar lights and green vertical wall. 🌱I hope they can also come to realize how animal agriculture affects environmental issues and stop serving meat and duck at their restaurant. A plant based menu would really complete your sustainability stance 100%.
