How to See Salem, Massachusetts, at Its Spookiest | Condé Nast Traveler

"A stroll through the Salem Farmers Market feels like stepping into an autumnal wonderland, where the harvest is bountiful and the local vendors are eager to share their goods. Here, the air smells of fresh bread, roasted pumpkins, and earthy herbs. You’ll find everything from handwoven baskets to organic vegetables, all grown and made by nearby artisans and farmers. Supporting this market means supporting the heart of Salem’s community, and it’s the perfect place to pick up a few seasonal goodies to take home. It’s open every Thursday from June through October." - Paris Wilson

Google
I visited Salem Farmers Market to use WIC coupon books that had been mailed out . It's right on artist row so tons of art to see even the ground is painted amazingly cool . I selected a bouquet of flowers from Merrimac Farms. Rainbow swiss chard , green onion which I plan to use with ginger to make some Asian food and cherry tomatoes . One table the lady was handing out some Halloween candy . Salem is packed in October so it's just a fun place to see . While supporting locally grown food that comes in no excess packaging and cost not much fossil fuels to get to my table as it's grown near by ! All good perks to shopping at a local farmer market stepping lightly on the earth 🌎.So the next seven generations may have a planet !

So many great options! Don’t skip over three gingers jerky, farm stands, and hot food 😋

Great variety of vendors with delicious things. This market takes place in historic Derby Square which has been a place where local farmers vend their food for centuries. We are very lucky to have so many great local places that still things here. And they often have nice music.

So fun and so abundant! Great music and stands. Absolute best produce at Dancing Harvest Farm - never had better lettuce or scallions!

In the heart of Salem! Nice vendor variety...and there is MEAD!

One of the larger local farmers markets. Everything locally grown or made. Kathleen has wonderful soaps and lotions - you will find her up the hill. Maitland farms pickles are a joy and be sure to drop by Grants plants for wonderful eggs or chicken. I have met those chickens and the lead good lives. There are mead and fruits and vegetables and pssta and ... just visit. It makes for a lovely Thursday afternoon in Salem. There are many parking lots and garages in walking distance or, for wheelchairs, accessible parking. Restaurants nearby if you get hungry and cannot wait to cook your food. Start in the morning at the museum, or a history walk, then to the market, for a wonderful day.

Obviously its off season right now. But when our farmers market is open its FABULOUS! Fresh organic fruits and veggies. To homemade pickles and soaps, we get it all! Fun for everyone. Clowns, street shows to balloon animals and prizes. You must stop by...

Yelp
I love this market. The produce selection is great, plus there's usually fish, meat, wine, pasta, soup, bread, and confections for sale. There's cooking demonstrations and live music, and the atmosphere is really fun. I look forward to visiting whenever I'm in town.

Yelp
Wonderful all fresh products. Highly recommend. People so friendly and helpful. I wish it would open up earlier but I understand it's so much work to set up. Thank you

Yelp
Encountered this while galavanting through Salem one day, and what a great find! They have many good local options to buy almost anything grown, or made from natural ingredients. Berries, greens, herbs, breads, eggs, cheese, honey, wine, fish and cookies from The Cookie Monstah, among others. Suffice it to say, there is something for everyone here. I took my mother, who before coming to the U.S. only shopped at open air markets (no others existed). When she saw the scallions (green onions) she nearly cried, for she hadn't seen onions like this in over 25 years! They taste great too! Tomatoes also taste like tomatoes, and not like a small grown ball of rubber! Also great for learning about local products, and where to get them (in case you want to get products directly from the farm) Also good to be able to talk with people actively engaged in cultivating and growing products, rather than just placing them on produce shelves. NOTE: This place is very pricey (relative to Market Basket, and other grocers). Said scallions are 99 cents at MB, but 2.50 here. But they are bigger, better, and worth it all the way. Awesome find!

Yelp
By the time I get home from a long commute around 6:30pm, the last thing I want to do is get in the car and drive ...anywhere. That's why I love the farmer's market. I can walk there armed with $10 and come back with anything from eggplant, tomoatoes, When Pigs Fly bread, biscotti, lobster and more! (Hint: if you go towards the end you are more likely to get good deals, but you may also miss some of the stands that close shop earlier.) Love the live music too!

Yelp
Small but very quaint. The areas I needed to see in Salem were all within close proximity of one another so it was nice to stumble upon this market tucked behind the original church building. Lots of colorful local goods to be seen! I only wished I wasn't from out of town so I could bring home some items. BTW, we learned on our walking tour that street used to be where water stood... That those houses on that street would've been today's waterfront properties! ;) Pinkies up, Yelpers!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my walk through this market during a recent visit to Salem. While it wasn't huge, there was a nice selection of so many different items - produce, flowers, wine, cider, chowder, baked goods, lobster, fish, soap, cheese, jewelry and more. There was someone playing music as well and my biggest regret is that it was the first day of a nine day vacation so I couldn't buy anything perishable.

Yelp
i don't think i can be too enlighteningly informative here, because a farmers market is a farmers market, but something worth noting is that when pigs fly bread is now sold here. :D all the sellers are so nice and the prices are definitely appropriate. there's nothing like super super SUPER fresh produce, and it's a nice change of pace from all the grocery stores in salem. anyone who has purchased tomatoes from market basket probably knows what i'm talking about. make sure to check out the other booths across the street., especially the stand that sells UNREAL cheese. oh my lord. there are great dog treats, too, which my pup likes to inhale (and she's a picky eater!). my fiance and i look forward to thursdays. dinner is always dabomb.com that night. p.s. yes, i just said "dabomb.com".

Yelp
Ah, Salem, you continue to thrill me with your greatness. This is absolutely the BEST thing that's happened to Salem since I moved here 13 years ago. Fun, fresh, upbeat, friendly, wonderful selections, great quality produce, wine, cheese, soaps, pasta and fish. One stop shopping for Friday's dinner. Why, Friday, you ask? Because on Thursday you'll want to shop at the Farmers Market and then set your bad self down at the Shanty or Adriatic for food, and people watching. You'll see all of Salem there and be able to shmooze to your heart's delight. This makes Salem an even more vibrant and fabulous community.

Yelp
Best farmers market in the northshore! Great variety of foods, drinks and specialty items. I love the fresh cheeses, pastas and wines.

Yelp
Love this Farmer's Market. I really look forward to walking downtown every Thursday during the season to load up on fresh produce, eggs and sometimes a baked good or two. Very good product selection.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
The best farmers market around. Organic and conventional produce, flowers, wines, When Pigs Fly bread, and the best soap around! Also, in a great location so you can grab a bite or shop. If you know the secrets, you can park pretty close.

Cheryl M.

Yelp
Can't wait for next summer. The Salem Farmer's Market is perfect, not too big or too small, nice mixture of vendors, cooking demonstrations, music, etc. Thursday is my favorite day of the week!

Yelp
I shop at this farmer's market regularly and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys farm fresh food and other goods. Well worth the money and much more fun than going to a grocery store.
