On the Grid : Salon Tropicana

"Salon Tropicana’s motto is ‘The Capital of Rumba and Salsa” and as such it promise you an authentic latin dancing night. The decor of the place is Tiki inspired, and there is dance a floor with tons of lights flickering to the rhythm of the live band. The tropical fiesta seems to never end, so come by drink some margaritas and show your best latin moves." - Bryant Castro & Abel Coss from Open Late

***SCAMMERS AND AGGRESSIVE STAFF*** They did the $500 peso flip for a $20 peso (both blue) on us. So then we had to overpay ontop of that. Then the older male waiter threw the change on the table. He was trying to not let me take a photo of the bill. They wanted us to pay in cash and said the credit card terminal is not working because of the rain. They all work together to scam you and give bad service. They talk very fast and try and confuse you. Hidden cover fee. They take advantage of foreigners. My wife is mexican and was trying to fix things and they were very rude to her. **Avoid this place.** This location is same as La Chaparrita. Two names at the same place. Avoid at all costs or be prepared to be overcharged and scammed.

SCAM WARNING⚠️ The show was great, but it's a shame that they try to rob you with the bill, and try to intimidate you to pay what they want. They charge you 16% supposedly for the IVA, plus 15% for the service, and in my case after making the maths, they added $400 MXN without any reason and as they couldn't explain why, they move you to a corner to check the bill and try to surround you. TAKE THIS AS A WARNING, IF YOU DON'T SPEAK SPANISH IT'S ALMOST SURE YOU WILL BE SCAMMED. Lástima por que el show en verdad está muy bien.

The show wad good. Juan Gabriel and mariachis, hillarious. All the joy was gone when they brought the bill. 1300 Mexican pesos for 4 (each 158) drinks. How is that possible? They tried to rob us charging a fee and changing a 500 bill for a 20 as they are both blue. Mother flickers! Never go there, or be cautious. At your own risk! Be aware or get robbed or worse! I hope tourists could read all the bad reviews before...

We went late at night to see a dance duo and had so much fun. A really old school dance hall with basic drinks but a great vibe on the right night. The crowd was young fun and queer mixed in with Mexican locals. One of my Mexico city highlights

Wow, I should have checked the reviews before going to this place. I had to ask them to adjust the cover fee, and the waiter left the bill had the same amount after he said he fixed it. They also try to say they were only taking cash. After they finally found a way to charge my credit card, I found out that they overcharged me close to $2,000 pesos. I used their own calculator to add all the drinks, which came up to $2,960, but they were asking for $4,800. Then, after the 15%, it should have been $3,395... the manager still charged me $4,260. I didn't and add the 15% for the service fee when I calculated all the drinks... And he just added an extra $1,000 pesos to my bills just because. I didn't realize until I was out of there, and my cousins recommended not to go back because they don't give you the money back. Please avoid this place and just sit on the lil bar on the opposite side of the plaza. Their Micheladas are $100 pesos, and they give you a whole Littler cup. You'll have more fun there. This Tropicana place is for sure a tourist trap!!! They will rob you right on your face. Yes, this is the correct Salon Tropicana. Their main dba is called LA JALADA. Which is what they do to tourist or people they see buying drinks. Even if the manager gets on here and says this is not the correct, it is. My cousins took pictures of the managers and the people working there in case.

Please read the other reviews before you decide to go. This business is a scam. My wife and I arrived on Friday February 25th. We wanted to watch live music and have some drinks. Like the other reviews we were charged over 1200 pesos ($60USD)for 3 drinks. Drinks, table charge, entertainment charge and service charge. BTW...No signs outside or on the menu to let you know. To top off the experience..we called over the manger to discuss the bill. My wife speaks fluent Spanish and asked him about the charges. He explained them and we thought it was ridiculous but paid him in cash. All of the sudden the manager got very aggressive and said we shorted him 500 pesos. He literally tried to rob us by switching the money from one hand to the next hand. We assured him no we did not and gathered our things and left. . The staff was friendly and the music was good. It is a shame that the management will not run a legit business. Buyer beware and stay away from this place. Like other people who reviewed.. go next door and have a better experience.

SCAMMERS! We went to this place and ordered ONLY a bottle of tequila for 1795 pesos that came with water and two sodas. However, our bill was 3300 pesos. Something we could not understand. They did NOT bring us an itemized receipt and refused to take credit cards. A man came to our table only with a charge on a piece of paper that he hand wrote. RED FLAG!!! They even demanded a tip!!! We were five women visiting on vacation and felt like we had no choice but to pay. Do not waste your time and avoid getting scammed. They are straight thieves!! What a shame.

I wish I would have read "Juan Sebastián Delvasto" post below before dining at this restaurant as this exact thing happened to us. My wife and I purchased both food and drinks... food okay, but drinks tasted like there wasn't any alcohol in it. When we received the check, we saw that it had an additional 100 pesos charge attached to it, but we didn't say anything as we just assumed it was for the entertainment. Stupid mistake! We placed the full amount, 800 pesos (one 500 pesos bill & three 100 pesos bill), on the table, and the waiter immediately told us that we had paid with a 20 peso bill instead of the 500 peso bill. I was sure I gave 500 but the waiter insisted saying us the 20. So we gave an additional 500 pesos not knowing we just were scammed. The next day, my wife calculated our spending and we realized this... WOW!! BEWARE!!! THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS AND THIEVES. THEY ROBBED US! I think because we purchased food, we didn't get charged for 2000 pesos like others, but they definitely tricked us by saying we paid with a 20 instead of a 500, since they're both blue in color. Definitely recommend to STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT/BAR AS THEY WILL SCAM YOU, LIKE THEY DID TO ME AND MY WIFE.
