23 Best Bars in Rome

"A rotating scheme of art on the walls; living-room-worthy chairs; racked magazines and vinyl records; best of all, beautiful hand-muddled cocktails—this hole-in-the-wall bar across from Hadrian's Temple checks many boxes. Settle into those plush chairs and let the cool soundtrack own you. Or better still, linger out front on the Piazza di Petra, where the temple's columns loom spectacularly at night. The bartenders are good; trust them to magic up even the most complicated cocktail. Drinks of choice include the Gin Mule, with its lashings of ginger and mint; and the Basil, which is made with vodka, strawberries, chili, and—you guessed it— basil." - Maresa Manara

Situated right next to the Hadrian’s temple makes for a great view. The waitress was lovely and spoke English very well. The cocktails were well prepared and the atmosphere was spot on.

Google
Recommended by a friend, and I can't understand why. Bad first impression because I received a cold welcome. I thought the cocktails would make up for it but no -- they were very disappointing. We also received a plate of finger foods (I thought, a nice touch) but the wraps, carrots, and small bruschetta were lukewarm (meaning, they had been sitting around for some time). The ambiance is nice thanks to the piazza and ruins of the temple of Hadrian. The inside looked cool but unoriginal.

Google
A hidden gem literally!! It’s the perfect spot for aperitifs with lounge and jazz music!! Absolutely perfect cocktails and snacks!!! Love the decoration and the coziness!!

Google
Such a great place we found just while walking by. The barista was super sweet, as well as the waitress. Cocktails - 10/10 even though a little pricey. And t definitely try the small pizzas!

Catarina Pinto

Google
They have great twists on spritz’s, drinks are a bit pricey, but each drink comes with a good selection of small bites

Google
We visit this place every time we’re in Rome, and it never disappoints. The drinks are exceptional — far from the generic tourist cocktails you find elsewhere. The staff is friendly, and the setting is unbeatable, whether you’re enjoying the stunning view of Hadrian’s Temple outside or cozy inside the bar. We absolutely love it!

Google
The worst Negroni ever( I drink this cocktail almost every day), serving lady flat line, and Aperol spritz not to mention, mojito virgin disaster Honestly I expected so much, atmosphere looks so good, but they ruined the moment

Getter Moor

Google
Lovely bar with great cocktails. The indoor space is limited but the outdoor area is fantastic for some drinks and a great night out. We were blown away by the cocktail selection and especially the different home-made ingredients used in the drinks. Must try: Tea Mule The staff is also friendly and can recommend the best drinks to try.

Yelp
Fabulous little place for cocktails and aperitif or light bites. Roman columns outside give it a historical essence, cute piazza.

Yelp
Loved our visit to Salotto 42 for apertivos! Excellent prosciutto and some other creative small bites. Quality cocktails and great service! Sit outside for the ambiance of the piazza. Had a reservation which was the only way we were able to sit outside.

Yelp
Rude and arrogant staff mistreats some customers while treating others well. People should stop going or the staff will continue behaving that way. It could be you getting the cold shoulder from the staff one day!

David W.

Yelp
Opens at 11:00 not 10:30. They need to revise their website was told to leave. Not sure why they were so rude.

Yelp
Super cute bar with semi expensive but absolutely worth it drinks. my favorite- pink ginger!

Yelp
Loved this place! Amazing drinks, amazing staff, great snacks and a beautiful view of the area.

Yelp
We were seated at the couch inside before dinner service and asked to move somewhere else so 3 people could sit. We are a party of 2 and despite asking for 5 minutes to finish our drink we were told to move. The tall long haired guy with a bulbous nose suggested we would be comforts me at the bar and to move. He wouldn't budge, no concession nothing. Just move. The party of 3 gladly took our seat and we finished up our drink and left. I've never felt so small. Rude, rude, rude and honestly the Negroni stunk.
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely atmosphere, however... The bartenders were rude, which could be okay if you find a table to sit at, which I think is the primary goal. But even if you're able to avoid the bartenders, the drinks themselves were not great. They remind me of the types of craft cocktails that you would get 10+ years ago, when the whole movement was relatively new and the idea of balancing flavors was not quite a thing. Both drinks that we ordered (2 for 27 euros) were basically sugar with a little bit of alcohol, some other flavors, and then more sugar. The free snacks were nice, the music was fun - but the drinks were not good and the surly element was not pleasant either. I appreciate the effort, but to me, their cocktail bar concept is poorly executed.

Chelsea A.

Yelp
Went here with a group of friends in town visiting. We were asked to move to the back of the bar and to get up from the couches we had been sitting at and paying for drinks at with no explanation. They gave our couch seats away to locals and forced us to stand at the very back of the cramped bar. Extremely rude bartenders and staff who treated us poorly simply because we were not locals. Would not recommend. You'd be better off spending your money on overpriced cocktails elsewhere.

Yelp
These guys are sleeze bags. Twice they took 50 Euro and said I gave them 20. Only had 50 in my pocket. Not possible to make that mistake. Truly not classy. Either owner, bartender or both are crooks. Not the first time I have heard this happen hear. Cool place , but make sure you tell them what you are giving them! They will easily lie, straight face, disgusting. Police should check this out since they are dealing drugs right around the corner from the Carabinieri. Are they paid off? Stay away!!! I am not the only one to write this. They probably write their own good reviews.

Yelp
Oooooh hidden gems, how I love you so much. Correction: How I L-O-V-E discovering you so much! When you're trying to find Salotto 42 (especially in the winter!) - it's located at one of those chaaaarming little squares just off the 'big road' - Via del Corso and facing the back of Hadrian's Temple. You stand in front of a glass door and darrrnit - how does it open? You press on a little button on the wall (left side) and the door slides open electronically. I find that super sexy, sorry but I do; glass door, looking into a stylish & classy cocktailbar and then this electronic 007-door that opens for you. Roooooar. The YAYs * Awesome tea menu. Strange for a cocktailbar? Nee hoor, tea is awesome and one can drink tea whenever, wherever. * Good cocktails; variety of the menu & originality of the cocktails; some are very complex (like!) and others a little less, but all flavours are there. Quite an extensive menu, I might add. * Cool terrace in the summer to enjoy the Roman aperitivo! The NAYs * Slooooow service and the two ladies looked liked they were sooooo bored. Yes they did what they had to do, but no warm-fuzzy-feelings-hospitality-friendly-laserbeams or anything. * Dirrrrrty toilet and it was 5 PM. Goodluck with the rest of your night.... Overall, I am a fan as the drinks were so darn good, the place has a very classy & cool atmosphere, the terrace in the summer is awesome and it's off the beaten track. Friendliness and cleanliness can be learned quickly (a smile, detergent, and a cloth) and we're good to go for an extra star. Yippie!

Yelp
Awesome place !! Went there for a cocktail and aperitivo and loved it so much that I went back again the second night.... The cocktails are very good and if you ask for a special creation you won't be disappointed. The food is good and the place is very chilled with good music and a very friendly staff. Highly recommend !!

Yelp
Just moved to Rome and my thirst time here. Nice variety of drinks. Bartenders are good. Servers/manager's service is terrible. Asked for a drink menu, after 10 minutes went and got one myself, then the manager came and apologized and took our drink order. Then after our drinks didn't come after 20 minutes, I started walking up to the bar and the manager stopped me and said they would be right out. Obviously forgot our drinks. Then brought our drinks and bill and asked us to pay right away. After he saw our look he said "maybe"? Good drinks...but terrible service tonight.

Yelp
Great drinks, found this on a site of "best drinks in Rome" and it did not disappoint. Handmade cocktails and relaxing environment. Go with their "42" drinks for a twist.

Yelp
Excellent appertivo with good vibes. Not a buffet of cold left overs. They even bring you sushi! However the sushi only comes when the chef prepares it you can't ask for it. Usually appertivo consists of mini sandwiches, tomato bruschetta, and carrots & celery and dip. I highly recommend the Moscow mule, and calling if you want a table with couches and comfy chairs!

Yelp
Will write more later. But so far so amazing! Great cocktails and just enough people to watch as you are away from the Pantheon madness!

Yelp
Had the worst experience last night. Went with a group of 14 people to celebrate a friend's bday. One of the owners started insulting us because some chips fell on the ground from our table (after we ordered about over 200 Euros of cocktails). He wanted one of us to clean the floor. It was seriously the worst experience in a bar or restaurant I ever had. I will never go back to this place. Worst customer service and expensive cocktails that are not even that good.

Yelp
we were walking by this place and was lured in by the cool music blaring and decided to check it out. as i have read from previous reviews, the cocktails are amazing! they aren't cheap but i think it's worth it. the place is tiny but cool, they played fun music and the ambience was chic and.... no smoking inside! YESSS! the reason why i did not give it another star is due to the fact that the hostess who was working that night could've done a much better job. i haven't drank in a while but i also wasn't just going to sit there so i got a pink lady. i asked for an order of aperitivo but i guess it was late and they had stopped serving it, i needed something to snack on so i wouldn't feel sick since i haven't drank in a while so i asked her if i could get some olives from the bar and i would even pay for it, without even asking, she said "no sorry ‍" witch seemed insincere. otherwise, drinks are good! servers don't need to act like they're there to look good or act like models because i wasn't there to check anyone out.

Yelp
How many times in your life have you walked out of a modern trendy lounge to find your self looking at a few steps away giant pillars of an ancient Roman temple? Beautifully lit structure makes you feel so tiny standing next to it with your quality glass of Italian vine in your hand!!! If I were a resident of Rome "Salotto 42" would be my daily happy hour spot. Good drinks complimented with delicious h'orderves.

Yelp
Cool vibes, really interesting and flavorful cocktails. Hard to get a seat though, so you may find yourself standing for a bit. I did no try any food, but I appreciated the olives and chips that came out with the cocktails. While tasty, I did find it a bit overpriced (you're definitely paying for the location).

Yelp
Well... to make it short and simple: A friend and I were looking for a little cafe after our lunch (which ended around 15:00), so while walking through the city of Rome we stumbled over this little pearl right across the Hadrian's temple. We sat outside had a coffee (espresso) each and a small bottle of aqua. The waitress was on time, the price was a little bit higher than usual (it seemed to be styled towards a modern-fancy-chic cafe type), the outside seating great (just the view alone) and the toilet had a toilet seat. Nice place.

Yelp
This place is definitely a go-to for me if I'm with my girlfriends out, if I'm on a date with my man, I can bring my mom here. I bring tourists here. I like this place a lot. The cocktails are always good. The crowd is a mix of locals and expats but usually an eclectic and nice crowd. A little dressy but I always come in casual and I'm definitely a Cali girl but I still feel comfortable. I've always had a good time here and I really enjoy the ambiance. I'd say the one thing that bugs me is the staff. If your not being hit on you're being ignored. It's not uncommon in Italy to have waiters be indifferent and snooty to you so it's not really a big deal. Plus if you talk to the bar tenders you can tell they really know their shit. I came with one of my friends once whose more of a cocktail snob than I am and she asked the waiter about some cocktails and they didn't really seem to be as educated. But anyway. Still a great place to mingle.

Yelp
Full disclosure, I'm not a drinker but I came across this bar on Bravo's "To Rome for Love" and since I'm unfamiliar with Rome I checked it out. I was blown away with their customer service and the way they approach their food and beverages. Even their non alcoholic beverages are carefully crafted with quality ingredients and love. Their food offerings at happy hour are also very well done- I particularly enjoyed their homemade sushi rolls, homemade guacamole & hummus (both with their own spin). And if you're a person whom enjoys a nice brunch- their brunch buffet is excellent. Lastly, the location AND ambiance are parallel to none in beautiful Rome. This of course is the perfect combination to draw out Rome's who's who. A wonderful place to people watch and meet the finest people Rome has to offer.

Yelp
Very cool, local bar. Came here on a Wednesday evening and the music was loud, the drinks were strong, and the place was packed with people. It seemed that most people were locals and all friends (kind of a cheers type of bar for the cool kids). The music was amazing, occasionally they would bring out a live drummer to accompany the music and make it a little more interactive. They served food that looked tasty but we didn't have any. The drinks were great and the staff was the perfect friendly/cool combo.

Yelp
A fun, posh cocktail bar located in the heart of Rome. The crowd is mostly young people, both tourists and locals, who are dressed fashionably. The drinks are delicious but maybe not strong enough for my American standards . We chatted with another newly wed couple on lounge chairs and couches in the center of the environment.

Ana G.

Yelp
Love love love this place. A must if you live in Rome or just come for a visit. It's the place to see and be seen. Very cool hip vibe - and local! despite it's location. Service is great. Bartenders and staff are very friendly and accommodating. Small space, but drinks and people watching are well worth it.

Marie-Michele N.

Yelp
Wow wow wow - real sophisticated cocktails!!! Great atmosphere and decor! Great service! The waitresses are so nice!! The food was also great! we had the hawaïen tuna poke bowl (we had enough of the pizza and pasta) and cheese plate after. Please go!

Yelp
Avoid at all cost. Overpriced, its a dive bar but they act like they manage LIV. The waiters are rude, and most of them look like they are on drugs. Good luck finding a smiling staff member there. Hopefully, it wont be around for long.

Nazli K.

Yelp
At first place you might think that it is nice place to go but please think before that. My whole money is stolen there in a minute!! I had talked to the owner about that but he didnt give a shit at all! There is no camera or any security! Not a reliable place in Rome! Also i talked to another customer whose phone was stolen at that not night! Just be careful to get there!

Yelp
Best bar in Rome. Great ambiance. Excellent cocktails, I'd even go as far as saying possibly the best espresso martini I've ever tasted.

Yelp
Was looking for something chic and fun to do on a Saturday night and I definitely found it in Salotto 42. Didn't want to end up at a tourist bar or with a super young college crowd, and luckily Salotto 42 was everything I was looking for. Firstly, we walked in and it was pretty busy with people standing out on the streets socializing with their drinks. My boyfriend and I came in and right away the manager greeted us an brought us to two stools we could take. They said "reserved" but he said you can sit here until the party arrives and if they don't then they are yours. Luckily, the party didn't arrive so we were able to get a seat. I saw them do this with several other people who walked in looking for a table. Next, the drink menu was amazing. Creative craft cocktails that are made with real ingredients and are so unique that I have never tried anything like it before. Next, the staff was very attentive, constantly re-filling our free plate of food they gave us and making sure we always had a full drink. After a couple drinks, we decided to venture out and try a couple more bars but I wished we had stayed there because the next couple bars were super touristy and the drinks just tasted of sugar. I wish we just stayed there for the night because it had the best vibe, the best service, and the best food and drinks!

E B.

Yelp
What an elegant respite from the busy streets of Rome! We searched YELP for the best apertivo in town and we weren't disappointed. Gorgeously appointed inside, jazz tunes providing the background for a lovely experience to sit, sip, and enjoy their delicious snacks (free of course). A true gem. Drinks were superb.

Brian C.

Yelp
Was treated so rudely here; worse than anywhere in Venice or Florence. Ordered drinks and the waiter stared at us until I said "you want me to pay now?" And he said "yes" without looking at me. They could not wait until we left. Could have been we were not cool enough and if so I'll just say a phrase that begins with "Va..."

Yelp
Great place for an aperitivo, but depending on the night, you might feel more comfortable if you are in your 20's and single. The first time I went during a weekend and the vibe was laid back enough to meet an out-of-town acquaintance for a chat but with the buzz, décor and music to make it interesting. The second time I went during the week after work and it was too loud and a bit too young for me: empty-ish standing room area in the center of the space, with people crowding the bar and the counters & stools along the walls.

Maria P.

Yelp
Went into this bar as it had an intimate hip setting and the drinks seemed delicious. After enjoying a couple of rounds of great mojitos, we began to notice the staff seemed bothered by our presence. The waitress was annoyed every time we asked for a drink, and we received looks from the rest of the staff all night. I kindly asked a gentleman behind the bar if he had a phone charger to which he agreed to charge my phone (probably the only reason I'm giving this place 1 star). Closer to the end of the night, the owner presented himself to us and began talking politics (a very touchy subject sober, let alone after a few drinks). Things escalated quickly to which the owner proceeded to advise us as Americans to get out of his country as we are not welcome and that we are by far the most disgusting human beings. Not only was this blatantly disrespectful, but it proves to show the amount of professionalism that this bar upholds. Would never recommend this place to anyone visiting Rome. As enchanting and beautiful a city, sad to see its service be so bad!
