I will be coming to Sal's every time I am in town. My husband and I were recently in town with our four kids, one of which is non-verbal autistic. The staff were very patient with him and talked to him while my husband and I (and our kids) ate our crawfish and other meals. We will be back for sure. Crawfish was on point!

Such a friendly staff! We drove up from South Florida on our way to Cali and they treated us like they knew us forever! Crawdads are absolutely fantastic!! Hands down the best we ever had. Seafood gumbo was so tasty and rich. Five stars all around.

I recently discovered a delightful dining spot during my drive around the area. Being here for the next two years, I'm on the lookout for my go-to places for good food. This restaurant stood out, not just for its delicious offerings but also for the warm hospitality. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a wonderfully friendly hostess named Brigette (forgive me if I misspelled your name). Brigette's welcoming demeanor and insightful recommendations about the area added a personal touch to my visit. The meal was nothing short of delightful. I enjoyed perfectly cooked deep-fried catfish and shrimp, accompanied by creamy potato salad, crispy deep-fried corn, and flavorful garlic toast. Every bite was a testament to the quality and care put into the food. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone seeking great food and a friendly atmosphere. I will certainly be returning.

Google
Walked in and was greeted by two sweet ladies, the menu all looked delicious! Had to try my all time go-to: shrimp poboy, all dressed. It was outstanding! Shrimp were crisp, fresh, and well seasoned; bread was fresh and toasted crispy 😋 Inhaled the whole thang in no time, no crumbs left haha

I dropped by Sals Seafood for some crawfish today. 😋 I love the fact that their boiled items were seasoned. "Just Right " You can buy cold crawfish at a reduced price of $ 3.50 a lb & and a hot crawfish at $4.75 a lb there are extras such as boiled corn, potatoes , sausage, garlic,& boiled crabs. ( no crabs today) The staff was nice& professional ( I left a tip ). Their restaurant wasn't serving cooked food today. They have other tasty to go items jambalaya, potato salad, stuffed eggs, stuffed fish, etc. BC I have eaten their seafood many times , and I would highly recommend their boiled seafood. I don't have any comments on their restaurant foods, poboys, etc

We had crawfish, sausage, potato’s eggs boil and their side sauce was delicious. The lovely waitress made good convo with us and gave us a good recipe for a the boil dip. Highly recommend and will return every time in town

Google
Small place but very friendly service. The food was excellent. Wish there had been a little more choices but was still really good.

First impressions are everything! I'm very impressed. The staff was inviting, the prices were competitive, but most important, MY CRABS WERE FANTASTIC!!!!! Since I've been on the Westbank, I've never had better crabs. I will always buy my boiled crabs here. I've visited 2 other seafood places within 2 miles for crabs and there is no comparison. They were so hot, fresh and juicy!!! I'm extremely satisfied with this visit. Pictures below.

Yelp
Small, local institution with long standing customers. Challenging to figure out when they are and aren't open since they go with the seafood availability, so we lived here for almost 1 3/4 yrs before we sat down at a table. Very limited seating; there's a wait on more popular nights. Servers are friendly and efficient, if you can get a table. Crawfish eat in was $7.25/lb when we visited the first time in late March. I ordered 3# and husband had a catfish plate. Great flavor on the crawfish and catfish nicely seasoned. Fountain sodas are $3. Next visit was shortly after, to go only from their busy, busy take-out counter opposite the seating area. Lots of choices, from stuffed artichokes to potato salad, stuffed eggs (deviled eggs) and bread pudding. Just needed 3# of crawfish to wash away the day at work. Not disappointed. In and out in under 10 min. Last visit this week, unable to get a table, so got it to go: 3# crawfish (now $4.75/lb take and $6.25/lb eat in), stuffed eggs (good, regular flavor, nothing fancy - 2/$2.75), corn (3/$3.75 sweet, sweet flavor), bread pudding with rum sauce (also available w/white chocolate sauce) which we reheated and ate the next day, and a shrimp poboy ($14.25), dressed, that took several minutes to come out of the kitchen. TONS of shrimp on it. Young lady delivering sandwich apologized for the wait. $41.92 w/tax before tip.

Yelp
I love the boiled seafood from Sal's. They know how to season their crawfish and crabs. Also don't forget about the boiled corn and potatoes. It's a must.

Wonderful J.

Yelp
I tried a lot of crawfish at different seafood shops and this spot is pretty decent with the flavor, but I wish their crawfish were more juicy and spicy.

Yelp
We decided to do a crawfish crawl and order crawfish from several places and Sal's made the list tonight. I have to saw I was fairly satisfied. The price was right and the crawfish were full and seasoned. If you like a little kick then Sal's will do the trick. We only tried the crawfish so I can't tell you about the rest of the food. Out of the 3 places we chose tonight Sal's came in a 2nd. Not because they were bad but because they just did not have the slap ya mamma finger licking goodness.

Yelp
Hello crawfish!! Next stop on the New Orleans weekend of non-stop eating. Unlike my first New Orleans trip, I made it in time for crawfish season. Naturally, we picked up way too many pounds of crawfish along with sides (sausages, potatoes, corn) to eat as part of our outdoor feast. (Sal's dining room area is still closed off so takeout only). The crawfish was perfectly seasoned and delicious! So juicy and plump with great flavors. Sausage was good as were the sides. Potatoes were so needed given after a few pounds in, your mouth will need a bit of a break from the seasoning they put on it. Unfortunately the corn was a bit disappointing. Really soggy, overcooked, and tiny. Think it would taste better if they gave it a little more time before throwing it into the plastic bag. Great crawfish dinner though, would definitely by many many more pounds of crawfish here once I've recovered :)

Yelp
Note stuff is fried in peanut oil! Food was pretty good, no oysters in July. This was a quick trip with the girls

Yelp
Came here on February 7, 2020 and they have crawfish whoo hoo!!!!! I expected the crawfish to be pretty small seeing as it was early in the season but they were actually a great size!! They were also a decent price--only $4.50 a lb. I came here and got 20 lbs to-go. Went home and ate them with my family and my mouth was in heaven. Seasoned to perfection, with just the right amount of spice. I don't think I've ever had crawfish from Sal's before this day, but boy was I missing out!

Yelp
We drive all the way from KY just to eat here! It's not a fancy place but their food, especially the crawfish are awesome. The staff are so sweet and they remembered us from the last visit. They also have a counter in the back where you can buy fresh seafood from them to cook yourself! We've made three trips so far and we plan on making this a yearly trip. We usually go down there for a long weekend, eat at Sal's a couple of times go fishing and enjoy the Bayou scenery. Sal's is on the west side of the river in Marrero. So if you're going to be in the area put Sal's into your itinerary you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
We were on a trip with our visitors to Jean Lafitte Park and spotted this place on our way back into the city....what a GREAT find!! Another "only-in-New-Orleans" kind of place. Things we loved: Perfectly seasoned boiled crawfish complete with newspaper on the tables to eat 'em on, $2 cans of Miller Lite, Fried Shrimp Po-boy, decently priced sides, the sweet potato pie. Things that were just O.K.: jambalaya, potato salad, cold boiled shrimp, crawfish pie, boiled corn. Things we didn't like: the shrimp remoulade salad (should be called the thousand island shrimp salad), the bread pudding, and the boiled sausage, yeah, no. And the way we received the itemized bill was UN-cool, I'd like to see what I paid and how much taxes were added, please. Overall, a great place to get hot boiled crawfish and cold cheap beers. I will be back!

Barry D.

Yelp
I've written about Sal's before and nothing has changed. It's the only crawfish that I will eat because they know how to do it...not too spicy, not too salty. They had center stage at my son's graduation party this past weekend and every one of those little buggers took a bow!!! Thanks Sal's for being a part of my family's celebrations for years and keep it up. Oh, if you don't know Sal's or what crawfish are, you really don't know what you're missing.

Mark M.

Yelp
Friendly staff and good food for a reasonable price. Doesn't look like much but it's exactly what I was looking for.

Yelp
Came one night and the crawfish were sold out, came back and found out why. Crawfish were seasoned perfectly. Makes my mouth drool just thinking about! Fried shrimp was also seasoned to perfection. Whenever I'm back in the area this place is a must to eat at.

Yelp
Love this place. The crayfish are perfectly spiced. My favorite place on the Westbank for seafood and a cold beer.

Yelp
Best jambalaya I've had. It's creamy and flavorful! It's a seafood market. The portions are small and it's $2 for a jambalaya. But it's worth it!

Yelp
Dined in. Slow night, only 2 tables filled. Waitress a mature short hair blond with flat affect-no name given. Ordered a bottled water with lemon-the lemon on the ice was dirty. Hubbys "fish" is in a cardboard hotdog tray and it took a ride on top of my fried shrimp platter to our table because I guess making 2 trips to bring our food would have been too much of a hassle. He enjoyed his chicken and sausage gumbo-I was not impressed. His fish was swai/basa (Fish is advertised as simply fish here). My shrimp were amazingly good. Fries mediocre and corn on the cob ice cold. Also ordered smoked sausage which was more like a premium grocery store hotdog. Hubby said it was the same sausage in the gumbo. Will stick to getting boiled seafood ONLY if I return
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
We love Sal's! Every time the crawfish are perfect! Always nice size and perfectly seasoned! Never reheated! Shrimp is better price than perino's boiling pot and like I said no reheat!!! Very delish!

Yelp
Crawfish is a hit or miss. I'm not a picky crawfish eater but I do notice some days its super spicy or super salty. Satisfies my craving though! I love that they don't boil the corn in the crawfish base. It buttery and delicious instead of super spicy!

Yelp
Drove up from swamp tour, place is open - serving locals after a 30-year bar drunk crashed into the front of the building this morning, but wouldn't seat us. 'Take out only' Customer service at its finest! Why do we review places? Because I want quality food, local fare, good fun! This sucked - everyone hungry. Going elsewhere.

Yelp
Always pass this place on my way to and from work. I decided to stop today because I saw the sign stating they have fish every day. Well. The line out of the door was a great indication that my husband and I chose a great spot to pick up dinner. The crawfish was SO GOOD! And very flavorful. Not too spicy and nowhere near bland. We also ordered the red beans with fish and let me just say that $7.95 for 4 pieces of fish, red beans with rice and 4 triangles of toasted bread was a steal!!! Everyone was welcoming and it is definitely a mom and pop that cares about their customers. We will certainly be returning to have quite a few meals.

Yelp
Complete rip offs. Sell boiled shrimp to a local at $6.95 a lb in preportioned baggies. When I get home and measure no were near a lb of shrimp. When I call the girl says we don't sell by the lb we sell by 3/4 portions. You must think you were speaking to a tourist. Locals even know 3/4 of a portion would be closer 12 oz of food since 16 oz are in a lb but instead you sold 8.2 and 8.3 oz worth of bags of boiled seafood. Want to get ripped off EAT here!!! 3 jumbo boiled crab cost $14.50 most ridiculous pricing I've seen for the seafood capital in a long time!!!! Not even worth one star!!!

Yelp
I tried it out a couple of weeks ago. The prices are fine, but I think we needed a primer as to what to order. The fish is swai, so if that's an issue for you, take note. Crawfish was sols out at 6:00 on a Friday, so unsure if that's a good sign, or not. Parking is a great big gravel joy. The staff is friendly, and quick. I bought a beer while waiting (15 minutes), but no one comes over to let you know your order is ready (perhaps 8 minutes). It's a low-key, bare-bones joint. Easy to be messy. Bring the kids!

Yelp
FOOD? If it's Louisiana Seafood, they have it. Crabs, Shrimp, Oysters, Catfish, etc. From Po-boys to Platters to Boiled, you can get it there. QUALITY? Have eaten there more times than I can remember over the last 30+ years and it's always been wonderful. TASTE? Never too spicy and never bland. Always seems to have just the right taste. LOCATION? If you're driving down Barataria Blvd from the West Bank Expressway (heading South), it'll be on your right-hand side. You'll turn right onto August Avenue (it's Patriot Street on the left side) and turn right again immediately onto a little bumpy road that leads to it, as it's located behind the little strip mall and the E-Z Serve Convenience store. PARKING? Plenty! They have a shell parking lot and a giant grass field right next to it. If you can't find a place to park, then that means you won't be able to get in because they are packed. SERVICE? Always, and I do mean ALWAYS, friendly, prompt, and professional, in a West Bank sort of way. CLEANLINESS? Always clean, but on the rare instance that it's not, let the Waitress know and it'll be cleaned instantly. SAFETY? Well, there's an apartment complex across the road that seems to attract the lower ghetto forms of life, but they don't seem to bother any of the customers here. Plus, there's always cops coming in and out of here as well so it's pretty safe. ATMOSPHERE? It's a Family restaurant. There's not much more to say about that. PRICE? Pretty damn good prices compared to other places around the West Bank. Anytime the family gets the en-vie for seafood, we head here.

Yelp
Great seafood and good food!! This place has great pricing and the food was hot and full of good flavors!! They even had some Blue Crabs mediums! Not Maryland (Old Bay Style) but pretty good if you get past that! Crawfish were good and hot! And the staff was SUPER nice!

Yelp
This is the epitome of a hole in the wall type of business. Tucked into a run-down set of buildings off Barataria, it is comprised of a small room for picking up to go and a bigger room set up for eating. Pricing is not bad but if you eat in-house, everything is one buck per pound more expensive. When we walked in, the first think I noted was a lack of smalls. It didn't smell fishy at all. Normally that's a good thing but for a seafood place, it had me worried. But no worry necessary. They cook the food out back and its sold so quickly that there isn't much time for the smell to build up. The second thing I noticed was the HUGE piles of crawfish shells left on the table by the people who just left. The waitress (Christy, I believe) was cleaning it up and tsking about the fact that they left 2-3lbs of crawfish just sitting there when they left. She called it a crime to waste them. Personally, I have to agree. If they tasted bad, that would be one thing, but from the amount of shells on the table, they put a good dent in about 10lbs. As she's cleaning I ask her about the spice level of the crawfish, she brings me this giant plate of crawfish and just gives them to be. She said it was better than tossing them. So yeah. That happened. I got 2-3lbs of crawfish as lagniappe. I think heaven is calling me. The crawfish is a bit under-hot for me but probably just about perfect for most people. Having said that, the flavor was great. Really well balanced. The Girly even tried a few. We ordered the stuffed artichoke heart and the seafood stuffed eggs and the Girly got the shrimp po boy and as we left, I got a pound of shrimp for later. Ok. So the scores: The good: The eggs were fantastic but you only get 1 per order. Free crawfish. How could that not be good? The Po Boy was really good, the bread was soft and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. The service was fantastic. Friendly and fast. The bad: The stuffed artichoke heart was really nothing but stuffing. Really dry and not too good. For 5 bucks, you get maybe 30 cents worth of stuffing. Only bottle service. Even water came in a bottle for an upcharge. A little Iced tea (not bottled) would have been wonderful. The Ugly: The shrimp. I tried to peal and eat some of the shrimp and these were tiny, fishy and waaaay over-cooked. I wanted to heat them over the hibachi but they were already really rubbery so couldn't. I will try to use them for a stock later but as something to just eat, no. All in all, I really liked this place and I liked the people working there. She said they had been around since the 70s and I can see why. I'm hoping those shrimp were just a bad day thing as lots of people were taking them to go. Lagniappe crawfish is a wonderful thing.

Yelp
SO COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED AND PISSED OFF. We heard about this place from our friend, a local, and decided to stop in. What a waste of gas... First of all, it's $3/lb. for take-out and $3.50/lb for sit-down. That's fine, we figured it'd be worth paying more to enjoy the crawfish in-house since we'd heard so many good things about it. We sit down and order 3 cups of water and a beer. The older lady brings out three bottled waters and my Michelob Ultra. We ask her for three glasses of water instead and she snorts and says, "Are you sure you want to drink tap water? None of the locals drink the tap." Let me remind you, before this snooty bottled water craze, EVERYBODY used to drink tap water and we're still alive. This is the U-S of A after all. She was just trying to upsell us. After a debate about water, she "thoughtfully" leaves the bottled waters on the table and brings out ONE small plastic cup of HOT water and a cup of ice (she couldn't take the time out to let the water run cold before she filled up a single cup of water for three people). We pass the water around and deem it "safe to drink" (but wtf, it's hot water?), but we gotta appreciate her leaving the bottled water around so that we could change our minds to pay $3 for water. Within 3 minutes of ordering 9 lbs of CF, she brings out a sack of CF and tells us to enjoy. Enjoy cold, OLD crawfish. Yeah, we're tourists but we aren't idiots-- the crawfish was OLD OLD OLD and the meat smelled funny. My cousin refused to eat hers and kept trying to push her crawfish into our piles so that we would eat it. Anyway, we asked a server (a different lady) how old the crawfish was, and she claimed that it wasn't more than twenty minutes old, that they cook the crawfish throughout the day in batches. That concept might work if there were enough customers, but the place was DEAD when we went in at 5PM on a Thursday (that's expected but old crawfish was not). This was the worst crawfish experience I've ever had. I'd rather pay $8 a pound in Texas rather than eat this crap even if it was free. Mistreated.

Yelp
Left a swamp tour and needed some food - our 'crew' decided to stop here and WOW - so glad we did! The selection is amazing - anything you can think of and then some. I'm not a crawfish person but my friends were in 7th heaven with the size, seasoning and price of the ones here. I had the fried shrimp, catfish and red beans. I have to take a star off for the red beans, they were a bit bland for me but everything else was on POINT! And I believe their cocktail sauce is homemade cause it had a kick like a MULE! lol - we were very happy we decided to stop in. WINNER!!!
google avatar

Yelp
The best crawfish and crabs in the city. The only thing that would make Sal's boil absolutely perfect and deserving of 5 stars is citrus. The boil water needs oranges and lemons and then it would truly be home-style for me :) The spice is on point and addictive. They put Perino's to shame because they are always fresh. I hate how the competition re-soaks crustaceans to make them hot before they serve instead of just boiling everything fresh! I much prefer the way that Sal's does business - hot and fresh, even if you have to wait for a minute.

Yelp
Sals. What is there to say about sals. If you get someone to take your order & you actually get your food you may have an experience to talk about. There is 8 tables In the place. 5 were full 3 were empty & dirty w/ food & trash. I waited 7 min before the only girl in the dining area got around to cleaning 1 before I could sit. Took her 10 min to take our drink & food order. Throughout the meal we had to get up twice, go to the bar & get our own drinks. They were out of Seafood Gumbo, Red beans, & we just luckily got the last stuffed artichoke. As we ate we heard her keep telling people other items they were out of. We got there around 6:20pm which is still early for dinner for a restaurant to be out of a lot of stuff. We ordered 1 pound of shrimp which was cold & over cooked, 5 pounds of crawfish which were ok & a 1/2 DZ of LG crabs which were not going to be ready for 15 to 20 more min so we waited for those while we ate the other items. Well they showed up an hour & 15 min later because the server forgot to put the order in. While we ate 3 tables got up & left b/c they got tired of waiting for someone to take their drink order. The whole time we were there I did notice 5 old guys who sat @ the corner of the bar drinking beer & every now & then one of them would get up & get themselves another beer or walk in the back kitchen but not once clean off a table, take an order, or help a customer. We only ended up at Sals b/c Perinos was closed the whole week for summer vacation (A.K.A Essence Festival)

Yelp
Found Sal's on Yelp because the boil joint we were headed to was still closed for Memorial Day (on a Tuesday?).... walked in and it smelled like nothing. This is a GREAT sign in a restaurant that has obviously been there forever and pours piles of seafood on your table. Sal's was clean, fast, and delicious. It was the only place I've eaten in Louisiana where the tomatoes tasted home-grown. We got the Catfish Po Boy and the Shrimp Po Boy, dressed. Had to hunt for the lettuce, but the catfish was super fresh and piled on, with a perfect crisp to the seasoning. The shrimp was also good, but it wasn't as massive. I'll go back for that catfish. Fishermen were chatting in the counter seats and more drove in as we sat there to sell today's catch. The place was about half full with neighborhood locals, always a good sign. Table service was a plus, the beer selection was down to bare essentials, and the sides were a little wee for the price. All together a great lunch and worth going back.

Yelp
Very good local joint with good crawfish boil. The sausage links here are delicious too, the perfect complement for the crawfish! Not exactly cheap, but for the quality the prices are fair, IMO. I never would have known about this place if it weren't for a co-worker who lives nearby. This is her go-to place, and I wish I was still in NOLA so it could be mine. Since I can't frequent this place, I share it with you. I miss crawfish, those little critters!

Philip Y.

Yelp
A very small place, has been around for decades, known to everybody who knows a little bit about crawfish in New Orleans. Friendly servers, and above the average crawfish, also has crabs and shrimp. The boiled potato and corn are excellent. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a reasonably priced place for your crawfish craving. If you're looking for fine dining, you should look elsewhere. By the way a very good gumbo too.

Yelp
A true gem in the west bank area. A hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere that shows the meaning of southern hospitality. The waitress that served us was extremely friendly and nice and extremely attentive. our meal out out of this world. I had the 1/2 and 1/2 Po-boy and it was delicious. the bread was fresh and the flavor just right. my friends got the platters and it was just as amazing. In additon of my po boy i had some crawfish. i think the crawfish made me give it 4 stars rather than 5 stars. the flavor of the crawfish was good, could use more spice, but it was cold. Granted we were there around 2-3pm, so it was probably left overs from lunch. the price of this place was very reasonable. my po-boy + side of sausage + 1lb of crawfish + 1 beer was $15ish. definitely a wonderful place to checkout if you are in the area.

Yelp
Long time since I've been here, but we were on the West Bank craving fish. I had only ordered boiled seafood from Sals before which was AMAZING!! We thought it was worth a try. I'm so glad we did their fried fish was so good! Seasoned well, light and crisp and plentiful. I have a doggie bag for dinner. My fiancé ordered white beans w/fried catfish. He also loved the fish & gave the beans 3 stars. We both had a beer and our order came to $23. Great price for the quality and quantity of food. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is a hole in the wall/mom and pop restaurant/fish market. Prices were excellent and the serving size was excellent, not a state of the art place, but it was the best seafood we had while in the New Orleans area. They were very busy and the sea food market was booming with customers. A must stop if in the area.

Yelp
The crab was boil with just the right amount of seasoning. My husband had a meatball sandwich since he doesn't eat crab and he said it was one of the best he has had. If you Dine-in you pay more which is kind of weird but you can order to go. You have to crack the crabs with a butter knife and use the pinchers to get the meat out because they say they get lost in the trash. So either come with your own or get creative. The crabs are good but I am sure you can find the same stuff anywhere in New Orleans.
google avatar

Paul N.

Yelp
Cheap beer, great crawfish, fresh seafood, southern hospitality at its finest. What more can you want? Nothing's changed with this place for the past 25 years. A must visit place everytime im in new orleans

Judy W.

Yelp
The food was good but the service was terrible, she completely ignored us after we ordered. My brother got his fish and shrimp (but could never get any cocktail sauce) and hubby got gumbo, we couldn't get her attention for another beer, after 15 minutes we got her attention for my crayfish I never got but tables after us were getting theirs. My husband had also ordered fish and shrimp, never got it. We get the check and it just said 54.00 no item list just 54.00 written down on her waitress pad. We still left a 10.00 tip. After we left we did the math in our head and we were charged for the fish and shrimp we never got.

Yelp
We had the medium crab as well as the stuffed crab. Absolutely delicious. Also my wife had never had a full crab and the staff was extremely helpful in showing her how to break them open and eat them. They even replaced one that I had butchered. The Jambalaya with the stuffed crabs was amazing with just the right amount of spice. And the stuffed crab was really good. However I did have a few shell pieces left in it. Only down side was don't expect fountain drinks. They are all canned cokes or bottles of water.

Yelp
I was encouraged to give this place a look-see by a friend, so I stopped in on my way to Marrero to book a tour, hoping to enjoy the cold Dr Pepper and freshly boiled crawfish they allegedly have on site. Apparently, I was ten minutes early for the small dining room area, and even though there were half a dozen peeps in line on the seafood market side, the eat-in part operates on a different schedule, and I won't inquire again as to what time, as I darned near got my head bitten off by one of the ladies bagging up seafood. I got in line behind three others who were making purchase of some really decent looking fish and whatnot, and when it came my turn, I asked for a pound of the hot boiled crawfish being advertised, was handed my bagged order, and asked "just where exactly do you plan on eating those?" Look, I'm a Southern man, raised with manners I've polished to this day, but enough is enough. I'd read the reviews here about the proprietor and family, chose not to judge until I'd been there myself, and I've gotta say, these are some rude and surly folks. Anyway, after informing the lady, with a smile of course, that I'd be eating them in the car, I took my leave of the place and I'm certainly never going back. Keep this in mind: there's a seafood processing plant attached to the market, there were fresh, hot crawfish boiling in plain sight, and I was sold room temperature crawfish, clearly yesterday's bugs, and on reaching my vehicle and realizing this, I decided not to let them waste, and on tasting them, and having eaten crawfish for the last half century, they were just plain pitiful. No seasoning other than cayenne pepper powder, no salt, just water and ground cayenne. So sad. After the fourth one, I rolled the bag shut, ended up dumping them out alongside the Intracoastal near Jean LaFitte. I cannot recommend this place. Not for anything.

Yelp
Was told by locals about this place. Upon walking in I was unsure where to go. A white older lady at the counter gave me a look like, "why are you here," as I proceeded to realize that everyone dining in were "white" as well. Anyway, after standing for a while I asked what did I need to do to order and was told to have a seat. I waited 10 mins before being asked what did I want. My bf and I ordered 7 lbs of crawfish, stuffed crab, a combo of corn sausage and potato, and 2 non alcoholic beverages. The same lady who half ass greeted us, took our order. She came over once and asked if we needed anything. I will never go back for 3 reasons; 1. There were about 15 crawfish "heads" only as if someone ate the rest or these were leftovers from someone else's plate 2. The crawfish was "okay" 3. She became "friendly" after getting the check ready not only did I NOT tip, I had to let her know that we were from Houston and had waaay better after she argued that she "heard" our crawfish in Texas was just sprinkled with old bay seasoning. Girl bye

Yelp
The crawfish here are cleaned so well, they are sweet, spicy, meaty, and a joy to eat! The spice is just right. Be sure to order corn and potatoes, and a cold beer too. I love, love to cross the river and go to Sal's for Crawfish!

Yelp
VERY RACIST! My family & I waited 20 minutes, (which was too long) WITHOUT being ACKNOWLEDGED. We finally were asked to put our name on THE LIST. We did. 10 mins went by & The "WAIT"ress passed & spoke the words "There are other people ahead of you ." It was clear and apparent that THE OTHER PEOPLE AHEAD OF US had been seated. Their names were scratched off of THE LIST. Needless to say, we walked out & went to THE GALLEY ON METAIRIE ROAD!

Yelp
Sal's became our household's favorite place to get seafood. The ladies who help us are always nice. The boiled crabs are the best. When it's crawfish season, we have to get at least 10 lbs. Please check out this place for some of the best seafood in the New Orleans area.

Yelp
I am sick and tired of the inconsistency of the roast beef sandwiches. The first time I had it, it was great, after that never had a good one. The French bread is either hard as a brick or not warmed at all and the roast beef is cold. When you ask for it fully dressed they barely put any lettuce or tomato on it. It's expensive and a small sandwich. I'm done , the ladies in the back don't care what you ask for they just give you some crappy slapped together sandwich. Ripp off.

Yelp
Was tired from spending the morning with my family at Jean Lafitte. Wasn't thinking straight and ended up paying ticket without prices listed (lesson learned). Realized I was overcharged! I would recommend avoiding this business, especially if you are not from the area.

Yelp
As a Westbanker, I am ashamed to say I made my first visit here on Friday night. I was missing out! Located on Barataria Blvd in Marrero, Sal's was serving up some delicious boiled seafood. Had a hankering for boiled crabs and decided to check this place out. So glad we did! Crab prices are high right now...but it's early in the season. Walking in, to the right is a line for pick up and to the left is the small dining area. Ordered a dozen boiled crabs, and they came right out. They set up you up with newspaper on the table and if you want beer, it's from a can. But I feel like canned Budlight and boiled crabs just works together. The crab had great flavor and had a lot of meat in them. Our waitress Christy was awesome! Seriously, she talked to us like we were regulars. You get the southern no frills feeling here, and I say that in a good way. We didn't even look at a menu, as we already knew it was boiled crabs we were after. I regret that now, guess I'll have to go back! So, if you are looking for a local boiled seafood spot, Sal's would be a place to go!

Yelp
No restaurant claiming to be a real seafood place should serve Swai or Basa.....Des Allemands is minutes away. Why use frozen imported fish?

Yelp
Well, glad to say they won me back. Went to pick up 7ibs of crawfish yesterday and was surprised at the size and flavor. They were great in size and I can honest say the flavor was spot on. I'm hoping to stop by again sometime next week and see if this will continue or was it just because they had a good day since it was a Friday night. Lets hope for the best.
