16 Fun Things to See & Do in the Virgin Islands in 2025

"A tiny, mostly deserted island once known for its salt ponds, Salt Island retains a salt-harvesting tradition dating back to Queen Victoria — a family still owns the island and historically sent a pound of salt in tribute — only a handful of people live there now, you can snorkel if you bring gear, visit the deserted town near the salt pools by dinghy, and there are no ferries so you’ll need your own boat." - Matthew Kepnes

I had the privilege of visiting this island and was really excited to see how salt grows. I was taken on a private boat that my son has access to. There is no regular ferry to this island. As far as I know, in order to get to this island, you have to hire a private boat and it is a good idea to visit the surroundings islands as well in one trip. A visit to Salt Island is a must to a visitor who is new to the territory! There is so much wonderful history here as well.

Incredibly cool and unique place, we were lucky enough to visit this place. Even more than that we were the only people there, which makes the memory feel so much more peaceful and unique. In a spiritual way it was one of the best most peaceful moments of my life. I'll never forget looking at all of the unique aspects and the salt pond. We collected sea glass, enjoyed the calm ambience of being on an island alone, and enjoyed the beauty

Salt Island empfand ich wie ein 'LOST PLACE' inmitten dieser traumhaften Inselwelt. Es gibt einen Salzsee auf der Insel, hier wurde früher Salz gewonnen.
