Fabulous hotel and only a 4 as we saw very little game on our 3 drives (more at the watering hole as we got zebras and elephants on our last breakfast). The density of game is low so if this is your only opportunity best to maybe choose somewhere else but we had seen lots all our other two stops so not so concerned. |The hotel is unique, staff fabulous (shout out to Geoffrey and the incessant fruit chopper Kennedy) and the food the best we had (better than the other two lodges which were 4 star). Great selection of salads ( a table where they mixed it for you - lots of other types), fresh juices in the moeninh and loads of fruits. Egg station to keep my husband happy at brekkie which was a pasta station in the evening. If you can get your driver to bring you back for lunch as the box lunch is pretty horrid ( we donated ours and drove in to get to our next lodge as a flacks processed white bread sandwich, chicken leg and a piece of fruit). The lunches in are super delicious so don’t miss out! Restaurant also had the best lighting. Layout and ambience of the lodges we stayed at. |The viewing is special and I looked out in the night to see elephants. |The rooms are small but very comfortable but as others have said bathrooms need a refurb and oddly you have to request a hairdryer. |Highly recommended .

A French couple for one night in November 2025. A truly unique stay, right above the animals absolutely amazing. There’s a waterhole just below the lodge that regularly attracts zebras, elephants, wildebeests, and gazelles. You get a front-row view of the savannah, with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. The lodge itself is perfectly decent, though the Wi-Fi is a bit weak and you might hear people walking by in front. The buffet is fantastic, large, varied, and delicious. For my fellow Muslim travelers, the meat is halal and certified. There’s a large, attentive team of staff and they’re all genuinely kind. This was the final stop on our 4-safari journey, and it made for a truly spectacular ending. Thank you to the whole team for such a warm and memorable welcome.

We absolutely loved our stay at Salt Lick Safari Lodge in Taita Hills. It truly is a one-of-a-kind experience, right in the middle of nature with breathtaking views in every direction. The entire lodge is built around a large waterhole, and from morning to night, every kind of animal comes to drink there — elephants, buffalo, antelopes, and many more. You don’t even need to leave your room to feel like you’re on safari. One of the highlights was the underground tunnel leading to the waterhole, where you get very close and exclusive views of the animals. At night, an elephant came so near that he rubbed his back against the structure — a moment we’ll never forget! The sunrise was absolutely spectacular, unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Watching the first light of day spreading across the savannah while animals gathered at the waterhole was magical. The lodge itself is beautifully designed, built on stilts, and blends perfectly into its natural surroundings. The staff were warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was also very good, with a nice variety of local and international dishes. Overall, Salt Lick is not just a place to stay — it’s a unique safari experience. If you want to feel completely immersed in the African wilderness, with comfort, safety, and unforgettable wildlife encounters right outside your window, we can highly recommend it.

An amazing stay!! Timely communication even before arrival, the reception was great with incredibly friendly and attentive staff. The property is sparkling clean. The location is breathtaking with stunning views we got to see animals especially elephants right from the lodge😃, in addition we had 2 amazing game drives. The pool is also strategically placed overlooking the game reserve. There was also a wide variety of food and I loved the pasta most. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for luxury, peaceful getaway with a touch of adventure😊

Had an amazing experience here at salt lick, the animals do come very often to the watering hole. Especially the elephants and they come to drink very close to the hotel, so it’s super easy to take pictures (just don’t be one of the people who uses a flash during the evening/night). The staff is impeccable (shoutout to Joshua!).

The Salt Lick Lodge is absolutely superb! Indeed, this is probably the best place my wife and I have ever stayed in. Right from the initial transfer from Voi SGR station to the lodge, with the extremely friendly driver, we knew that something special was on the cards. How right we were! Salt Lick Lodge is the BEST place to view wildlife anywhere..end of. Our room overlooked the waterhole and every day we were greeted with a never ending stream of animals visiting to drink - elephants (herds of 30+), buffalo, giraffe, zebra, waterbuck, eland, red hartebeest...and that's just the big stuff. We saw 4 species of mongoose, including banded and a family of dwarf (with albino individuals) that visited daily, The bird life was exceptional, and we had cracking views of superb starling, white crowned shrike, red billed and von der decken's hornbill, soaring bateleur, tawny and brown snake eagle, ostrich, wooly necked stork, ground hornbill, lilac breasted roller, namaqua dove, slender tailed nightjar, amethyst sunbird, white headed buffalo weaver..etc.!! Lions were always on the periphery and we heard males calling each night. On a night drive we came across a male and female sleeping on the road! The safaris were exceptional and we saw black backed jackal, cape hare, lesser kudu, impala, oryx, wildebeest, chameleons and even a green mamba! The rooms were exceptionally comfortable and the view over the waterhole was out of this world! The fan above the extremely comfortable bed was perfect and we really appreciated the mosquito net 'curtain' that one could simply draw around the bed. Tremendous shower with hot water! And now onto the food, WOW!! My wife and I are vegetarians and have travelled around many African countries for 30 years. The Salt Lick Lodge had the BEST vegetarian selection of anywhere we have eaten and so delicious. Watching your eggs cooked just the way you like, right in front of your eyes, what's not to like! But the overall best thing? The staff, AMAZING!..Christine, Janet (House keeping), Fred, Danson, Kelvin, Humphrey, Oduor, Gideon, Hannah, Christopher, Darius, Sylvia, Emmanuel and absolutely everyone else, you were all fantastic and really made our holiday so very special. Laura loved her birthday surprise too :) Many, many thanks for such a wonderful stay.
