We had lunch only but the food was fantastic. We finally had the Nova Scotia lox (smoked salmon) sandwich and it was great. Seafood soup was very generous. Propeller pilsner beer was a solid pilsner. We also bought some of the wall arts for home. Very busy spot but very enjoyable. Consider sitting at the bar and mingle.

We loved the Salt Shaker so much that we ate there twice in one day!! Both times it was very busy but we didn't have to wait long for a table. The first time we ate out on the deck, but stayed indoors for dinner. For lunch we shared an amazing seafood pizza (which was beyond fabulous) and a delicious beet and feta salad. For dinner we enjoyed the chowder, seafood linguine and almond panacotta. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was lively. I highly recommend the Salt Shaker.

Google
Great place to eat in lunenburg. We had the burger, pear and prosciutto pizza, and the seafood chowder. I’m not a seafood chowder person normally, but this was absolutely amazing, 5/5. The burger was ok, just a regular burger, bun was a bit dry. Nothing special about it, but tasted good. The potato’s were really good though with the garlic aioli. The pizza was really good. Cool combo, never had something quite like it. Little bit too much arugula on top for my liking, but my partner didn’t mind. The vibe is great in here, and service was great, would definitely go back again

Google
Great food with a wide selection which isn't all shellfish! It's very busy so there might be a short wait for a table, but it's worth the wait. Service is quick and the food is very good. My husband and I have had the beet salad, teriyaki salmon, ham and brie sandwich pizza and pork burger. I'd be happy to recommend all of them. If you are happy to cope with the weather conditions then try to sit outside. The views are great and it's quieter.

I didn't stay here, only eating lunch here, but the people were phenomenally friendly, food was delicious, prices reasonable and atmosphere was fantastic. I can see why it's a popular spot. The location is beautiful but you will have a heck of a time finding a parking spot. When you do it's paid parking via old school meter that is fed with coins. No card. So $2 for 1 hr. Make sure you have change, which is rare these days. It's a lovely spot to walk after a hearty meal. I recommend this spot. Veggie options too so it's nice for folks that don't eat meat or fish. Service was also spot on, never having to chase anyone down. Attentive and timely. The food came out in good time as well that a party of 7 of us took about an hour from the moment we were seated to the moment we walked out. Great place.

Google
Fabulous dining experience! Came based on local colleague’s recommendation. The seafood chowder was rich and tasty and the beet salad with scallops was perfectly dressed and perfectly seared scallops. Service is friendly and attentive and we enjoyed the view of the harbour sitting on the deck.

Had dinner here for the first time after it had been hyped up over the years while passing through town. Service was good, very nice and attentive servers, however the food was not up to snuff. Appetizers: The crab cheese dip was 100% cheese and 0% crab; the shrimp bruschetta was served as a salad with toast on the side. Both were well below expectations and standards of such a restaurant. Mains: Fish cakes were basically mashed potatoes cakes with next to no fish detected. The Lobster roll was way too much bread and mayonnaise, way too little lobster for the hefty price tag of this menu item. Cocktail: Blueberry Mojito was the first item on their cocktail menu. It can only be described as blueberry juice as there was no noticeable amounts of alcohol or mint present. It also came out in less than a minute making us think it either came from a can or it wasn’t finished before it was served - either is possible based on our experience! Overall, it was really 2 stars but given our good service and comfortable seating in the corner at the window, that earns another star. Would not return.

Google
Visiting Lunenburg, dining with a friend. It was very busy, but the wait was worthwhile. They offered to call when a table was available, and it was only a short wait, about 15 minutes. I had the vegetarian grilled sandwich on focaccia bread, and hubby had the hamburger. The food was good, but still more than $20/ person after tax and tip.

Yelp
We stopped by here for lunch. It was quite a busy service as there was a big wait list for table seating, but we decided to sit at the bar. We ordered their lobster roll and their crab cakes. The crab cakes by itself can be a bit heavy, but eating with their relish brighten the flavours their lobster roll was similar to a tuna salad with a variety of veggies and very light on the mayo. It was really light and refreshing. I would definitely come back here for lunch, and servers are very friendly.

Yelp
I ordered the lobster roll and seafood chowder. While the lobster roll was okay, I've definitely had better; the roll was a bit too burnt for my liking. The restaurant has a cozy diner atmosphere that feels very welcoming. The staff were fantastic, providing great service throughout our visit.

Sharon L.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the staff were great. The manager was so nice and personable and seated our party of 6 as quickly as possible. The lobster roll had only a small amount of mayo and was delicious. The smoked scallops in the chowder gave it great flavor. The fish cakes and Cesar salad was also very tasty. Had the smoked salmon and hot crab dip For appetizers and they were also so good-duh in quickly and so didn't take any pics. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. It was worth the wait.

Yelp
Avril, Hanna & Cailen. Wow. What a gem of a place..... on a side adventure for the day and out of all the things and places we saw..... THIS was the highlight of the whole day. As for food and drink; all was fantastic! (Although we only had the soup - Tomato & Seafood). I did see plenty of plates go out of the kitchen however and everything looked fresh and delicious. If you get a chance to visit this quaint town, make this your lunch spot! What a joy. Thank you staff for being helpful, engaging and so inviting. Cheers!

Yelp
I thought that the seafood chowder would just be a sideshow to the lobster roll. It wasn't. Hard to say which was better. Everything here is amazing!
google avatar

Keith W.

Yelp
Busy place on a holiday, but the wait staff kept up. I had the best lobster roll ever. Good views of the harbor.
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
The service and food were amazing! My wife had the seafood chowder which she loved. I had the tomato soup with the cheese garlic bread. I can honestly say it's the best tomato soup I've ever had. I mean that. So yummy.

Athena U.

Yelp
Delicious food, mediocre service, very snug place, pricy for overall experience ($100 for 2 lobster rolls, no alcohol).
google avatar

Yelp
Oh, this is the best "deli" I've ever eaten at! So busy at lunch but worth the wait. We sat inside but there is outside seating also. Husband had smoked salmon club; "it was good," he said. I had fish cakes. Wow! The best meal of this trip!
google avatar

Lok Yi L.

Yelp
- mussels with white wine sauce was yummy! But the size of the muss were small - house ice tea was good - around 30 mins waiting time to be seated

Eli S.

Yelp
Amazing place great food I had chicken club with tomato soup and it was so good and the waiters and waitresses were so nice I greatly suggest
google avatar

Shruti K.

Yelp
Very good food, service and staff. We tried their garlic cheese bread.. it was very delicious and soft. We also tried their mushroom veggie sandwich and veggie pad Thai, which we were not able to dine so the staff was courteous to quickly pack it up, both the dishes tasted fantastic even cold, I wish we had the time to eat these hot at the restaurant.

Yelp
This place was bumping & for very good reason! I was traveling with my family from Pittsburgh to Nova Scotia & happened upon this true gem overlooking the water. The atmosphere is chill & welcoming & makes you feel like you're in a true boating town. The wait staff was incredibly helpful, upbeat, & attentive! The food was AMAZING! Everything was fresh & tasted true "chef's kiss!" There was not one thing we didn't like. We had smoked salmon, lobster rolls, club sandwich, & seasonal desserts! Awesome Playlist too! Excellent experience!

Yelp
This is a gem of a bistro, honestly, the best food we've had in CA on our eastern seaboard visit! Try the chowder, beet salad, burgers, veggie sandwich. Great beers on tap (Propeller session IPA and Yutopia were our favorites).

Ron S.

Yelp
Everything about the Salt Shaker Deli was great. I had the salted cod and pork cakes with tomato chow, and it was outstanding! The chow was just the right amount of sweet and sour for the fish cakes! Everyone in our party agreed that this was our favorite dining spot for our week long visit to Nova Scotia!

Jay S.

Yelp
One of the best places to eat in lunenburg. Great staff great food and highly recommended
google avatar

Yelp
Everything I've eaten there is fabulous and everyone is so friendly and helpful. Love the decor. My favorite dish is the cod cakes.
google avatar

Yelp
Whenever I am in town, I have to have their scallop linguine. Love the six large pieces of scallop and plentiful pasta. It is a little oily but... given I do a lot of walking while on vacation, I'll give it a pass. However be aware that it can sit in a pool of oil if that is a concern for you. Overall staff are friendly.

Josh M.

Yelp
A true Lunenburg staple. Great menu, friendly, helpful staff, and fun ambiance. The Salt Shaker is a longtime local favorite, and keeps getting better year after year.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a quick lunch. Four of us, there was a table available but the waiter had to wait for someone else to seat us...at that same table. The place was tiny but it was a sunny day so a lot of people were seated on the patio. I felt it was too chilly for that. We ordered drinks and lunch together and everything came promptly. I had the beet salad which was tasty but a touch too much dressing. By the time I got half way through, it was all wilted and I'd had enough. Also ordered the smoke salmon plate. It was excellent. Had all bases covered with the capers onions, dill cream cheese, tomato, and arugula. Loved it. Friend had the margarita pizza which reminded me a bit of those kiddie pizzas we ordered when we were 12. Another friend had the blt and tomato soup. Soup was excellent. Hot and fresh. Will be back again sometime.

Yelp
This was a block from my hotel and the staff were very accommodating. Got me sat quickly on a Friday night and food came to the table just as quick. Loved their lobster roll. Light on the mayo and the lobster tasted fresh. Roll was well done too, and the beet salad was delicious. Solid beer menu off local fare.
google avatar

Yelp
Good friendly service. Food had a good homemade flair. Service was prompt and we woll return for seconds.

Yelp
Don't stop at those restaurants closest to the harbor parking lot. Venture out up the stairs to the end of the block. Nice little place offering fish timbits! Tasty little deep fried morsels, better than fishcakes with a tangy sauce. Perfect portion size - yes I know it is listed as an appetizer.Apprently the fish chowder the others had seemingly lacked fish. I will only review my meal, let them post their own. Waitstaff got a bit harried when 2 of us switched seats as that other person had to climb out to use the restroom so I made it easier for their return by taking their seat; apparently it put the orders out of whack (seriously?). So they lost a star for that!

Yelp
We came to this restaurant for dinner and was met with almost an hour wait. But it was worth the wait! We tried a bunch of their seafood selections and everything tasted delectable. I highly suggest getting the chowder - delicious chunks of fresh seafood with tiny bites of veggies all perfectly joined together by the rich creamy soup base. The fisherman's stew was a scrumptious tomato based stew with mussels, shrimp, white fish, and the most tender scallops I've ever tasted. I really enjoyed the slightly smokey aftertaste of the stew as well. The beets salad with arugula, goat cheese, red onions, and vinaigrette was very refreshing - a great choice to balance out the meal. Other delightful choices to sample their super fresh mussels and scallops were the 1 pound of mussels cooked to your preferred tastes (they have a pound & pint combo deal), and the scallop linguini (also slightly smokey flavors). I loved that everything was flavorful, but not overly salted/spiced or too heavy. Highly recommend! P.S. The Mediterranean inspired restaurant next door is owned by the same people.

Yelp
I stayed at the Inn (the Inn was nice) and ate at the restaurant. The people who work here are phenomenal. Some of the best crew I have experienced. The food was decent but a little expensive. I ate linguine with scallops. A little more flavour would have been nice, the pasta was not home made. At a price of $22, it should have been fresh pasta. Heck, they make their own pizza dough, why not the pasta? It would have been nice to taste a little garlic or butter or both in this dish but could not detect either in the flavour.

Yelp
This was a great quick lunch during our vacation. The deli was bustling when we go there around 12pm, but they were quick to seat us. My grandmother was with us and she was in a wheelchair. The hostess was quick to make sure she was comfortable. Unfortunately the waitress was a bit pushy and looked very annoyed at my grandmother's slow pace into the restaurant. (She can walk on flat planes but it hurts her joints and she has so go very slowly.) The food itself was alright. Nothing spectacular given the price, but it is a touristy location, so I wasn't too surprised. The artichoke dip was the crowd favorite and came with amazing pita.

Yelp
Good service and good food. What's not to like. This restaurant is just down the street from where we live and we have been regs for a couple of years now. A go to destination in Lunenburg for relaxed dining.

Yelp
Wanted to love this place so badly. Our first meal in Lunenburg. Nice atmosphere. Only open until 8:30. We arrived at 7:30 and just felt rushed and as if we were an inconvenience. We ordered pizza for our little guy which was excellent. Fisherman's stew (Smokey tomato base), liver pate, beet salad and a sausage and penne pasta. Food was ok. Our server took our order and disappeared. The pate didn't arrive and we had to wait while it was prepared. We had to go to the bar and order drinks after the first round (because - no server). There are only 6-8 tables inside, Bar was empty and maybe 3 tables occupied outside. Unfortunately we left feeling as if we were unwelcome guests (though we still left a 20% tip). Everything felt a little off and we left more than a little disappointed, I am sad to say.

George's M.

Yelp
We had a pizza and scallops with pasta. We also shared a calamari. Pizza crust was soggy and slightly underdone. Very salty without any balance of flavour. The scallops with pasta lacked any depth of flavour. The calamari was ok but once again bland. It was an ok meal with touristy prices.

Yelp
Amazing food, friendly service. My husband ordered the mussels with the garlic and cream sauce. Said they were some of the best mussel he has ever had. I ordered the gnocchi with artichokes, peppers and a creamy red sauce. So delicious ! Would definitely get again. Then for dessert my husband and I split the bread pudding with caramel sauce. So good. Our waitress, Danielle, was awesome!! Love this place!!
google avatar

Yelp
We got here just before 5 pm and were seated but within a few minutes there was a line out the door - a popular place. We had been eating seafood all week and husband was in mood for a burger. Fortunately they make a good one - the double smoked bacon burger. He really liked the house sauce on the burger and garlic aioli for the potato wedges. Only he didn't like the bacon - it was over cooked, dried out. I had the peanut & sesame noodles with chicken and it satisfied my peanut sesame noodle craving.

Yelp
Our best meal in Lunenburg! This place is great! We loved the vibe. Great service! The food is fantastic! Our server recommended the PEI Mussels Portuguese with Homemade Sausage & Marinara and she was right!!! Fantastic! Ask for some bread to go with the dish! The spicy sauce coupled with the mussels was just the right combination! Our seafood chowder (scallops, mussels, shrimp, and smoked haddock) was some of the best we have ever had! We would return! Maybe even tomorrow!!

Yelp
My go to restaurant in town. The staff is always great, and will often accommodate requests. Beer selection rotates between local breweries, and often good choices. Great spot for lunch, dinner, or killing a night with drinks and friends.

Yelp
This restaurant was my favourite place to eat in all of my Canadian east coast trip which involved many restaurants. I'd highly recommend everyone to check out this place. When we arrived there was a bit of a wait, and from the outside it looks like any other place in Lunenburg. We were browsing through a lot of places, the menu on this place looked pretty promising and a healthy number of patrons inside convinced us to come. Before we even sat down, we knew what we were ordering (almost all the restaurants in this area had menus outside so you can see what you want before committing). They have a cute little patio which is where we sat. We ordered the mussels with roasted garlic and cream sauce ($12 for lb), the calamari ($12), the seafood chowder ($11) and the seafood pizza ($17.50). I think the prices were pretty fair but the food tasted so gooooood it felt like a deal. My favourite thing to eat this meal was the mussels, it was perfectly cooked and the sauce was so so delicious, they even gave you bread to help soak the sauce that the mussels was cooked in. YOU GOT TO GET THE MUSSELS HERE. The calamari was pretty good too, but too bad they gave so little of it. The clam chowder was also good and came with huge chunks of a variety of seafood. Finally, the seafood pizza was something I've never had before and it blew my mind when you got that nice bite of all the seafood.

Yelp
The Salt Shaker Deli was the perfect place to head for lunch in Lunenburg. We planned to hit the spot up the night before we even headed out for the day. Salt Shaker Deli is located one Street up from the harbour, and if you get lucky enough to be able to sit outside on their patio, you will have a lovely view of the ocean. We were even lucky enough to be able to check out the Bluenose II while enjoying lunch. I started the meal with their Blueberry Lemonade cocktail. It was delicious AND pretty! The perfect balance of sweet and sour, with just a hint of alcohol at the end of your sip. We chose to get some appetizers before our actual meal. Unfortunately I couldn't enjoy the muscles that the rest of my party was indulging in, but the garlic and cheese bread that I ordered was some of the best I've had in a long time. I'd give it a 4 out of 5. I ordered the Chicken Club with a side of potato wedges for my entree, and it was okay. Unfortunately this is what knocked my review down from a 4-star to a 3-star. Although the bread was fresh and the wedges were well seasoned, I had warned that I had a fish allergy and still ended up with half of my sandwich tasting like it was dunked in a bucket of fish. After the first bite of my second half, I had to stop eating. The Salt Shaker Deli was still a great experience, and I would go back and give them another chance if I ever found myself in Lunenburg again.

Yelp
When we arrived, the deli was packed. This was a weekday afternoon in November, and we had to wait in their small (cramped) waiting area for about fifteen minutes before we had a table. I'm impressed with how fast we got in - there were three or four tables ahead of us in line, and it didn't take long at all. This was my first trip to Lunenberg, so obviously my first time at the Salt Shaker Deli. I was so tempted by the pizza, but instead went for the pork tacos instead. I was starving, so I was a bit disappointed at the portion size (three tacos, but they weren't as full as I was hoping), but they tasted delicious anyway. I got them without chilies and I still found them spicy, though I don't do well with any sort of heat, which would be why. My companions had the seafood chowder, which they were oohing and aaahing over the entire meal. I'd say it was a huge hit! I enjoyed my experience here a lot, though next time...think I need to try one of those pizza's!

Yelp
I love you, Lunenberg! What a cutie of a town. Salt Shaker Deli came highly recommended by some Halifax locals, and they did not disappoint! When you get to the heart of Lunenberg, it's quite maddeningly clear that almost everywhere you go would probably have good seafood and patio. How does one choose? Let me help. I ordered well. I order a pound of Nova Scotia mussels in a roasted garlic rose cream sauce. The garlic cloves were FULL full and perfectly fork tender. Don't skip the chowder! It really is too bad that you can't just order a cup of this but I get it, I guess. Order it anyway. Share or save some for a midnight snack. Each spoonful reaped a new reward of mussels, flakey haddock, baby shrimp, a scallop or mussels. A seriously underrated element of this dish is how crisp the vegetables and potatoes manage to stay, despite being soaked in creamy broth. Nay, chowder sauce. Between the view of the ocean, the friendly service and damn tasty food, you too will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Suzy J.

Yelp
The food and drinks were superb! We ordered the wild blueberry vodka lemonade, the roasted garlic and cream mussels, seafood pizza and fish cake sandwich. Everything was perfect. Fast and friendly service.

Cynthia W.

Yelp
We were pleasantly surprised with our experience, the staff was very friendly and food was exceptional. The seafood chowder was among our favorite dishes in Lunenburg, as a bonus it was gluten free along with a few other options.

Amanda S.

Yelp
The mussels were 10/10!!! So so soooo good! However, the bread they came with was just a plain slice of un-toasted bread. Service was fine - food came fast. The rest of the food was nothing special. (Smoked salmon and the feta garlic dip)
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
Very welcoming staff and great location overlooking the beautiful Lunenburg waterfront. We enjoyed the thin crust pizza and spicy steamed mussels. The lobster rolls are full of meat and very tasty. I definitely recommend this place.

Rick K.

Yelp
Great service. The muscles were unbelievable. I also had the fish tidbits which were good.
google avatar

Sammie S.

Yelp
What a pretty spot with a gorgeous patio! We sat outside and enjoyed the view. Great service and great food. One lobster roll (that came without any sides?) and Beet salad with added grilled scallops. They brought rice crackers for my daughter who was still under the weather.

Nancy-anne D.

Yelp
Waited 1hr 1/2 for a table for 2 so we had great expectations. Unfortunately, it took 30 min to get our order (2 main course) and although ut sounded great on paper the flavours were not there. Sunday dinner, scallop linguini and seafood stew. Disappointed!
google avatar

Stephen H.

Yelp
Wow. All in our dining party loved their meals: pad thai, mussels, chicken caesar salad, curry carrot soup, beet salad, etc. The waitresses were very engaging and efficient. We arrived early and got a table right away. Within 45 minutes there was a line up. We just stumbled upon this gem. If we go to Lunenberg again, it will be to eat here. Best place we ate during the three days touring the south shore.
google avatar

Teri S.

Yelp
Loved the mussels in rose cream and garlic sauce and the seafood pizza. Everyone's dishes looked delicious. But, next time, I am ordering, the same thing!
google avatar

Beatrice G.

Yelp
I was disppointed with the food. I had the chowder, Lobster roll, Fried Bologna sandwich and fish tacos. The lobster roll was subpar at best, a bit salty. Not worth 18.50 at all. The fried bologna was interesting, my 2 yr old enjoyed it. The fish tacos were tiny. Nice batter, less fish. Not much taste to it at all. The chowder was the best thing we had. It was good. I wouldnt not wait 40 mins to get a table and another 40 mins to get our order again.
google avatar

Denis D.

Yelp
Location. That's what this place has going for it. It sits a little elevated from the Lunenburg Habor in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. If you come here to eat and it is a nice day you MUST sit outback on the deck overlooking the harbor. That's not to say the food isn't any good. It is. Location alone doesn't make you worthy of 4 Yelp! stars. I tried the chowder, the fish taco, and the lobster roll. I would recommend all three.
google avatar

Samantha P.

Yelp
We stopped here for dinner and enjoyed our meal so much that we returned for lunch the next day. There were a handful of vegetarian and vegan options - between our family of four we tried them all. They were all delicious! If it wasn't thousands of miles from home, we'd be regulars.
