SALT is one of my favorite spots on Shelter Island. The setting is beautiful, right on the marina, and it has such a relaxing vibe. I’ve been a few times now and the food is always fresh and delicious. The lobster roll is a standout and the fish tacos are also really good. The staff is friendly and the service is quick, even when it gets busy. It’s a great place to sit outside, enjoy the view, and have a nice meal with friends or family. Every time I go, I leave happy. Highly recommend if you’re visiting the island.

Google
Great location on the dock overlooking the marina. I sat outside on the covered deck area. Service was friendly. Food was very fresh and good.

Drinks were eh but the food was good! The vibe was nice , right on the water. We got the Lobster Cobb Salad and the Tuna Poke Bowl.

I came here on a Sunday afternoon during Labor Day weekend on a day trip to Shelter Island from East Hampton with two others. We made the reservation for a lunch table two days prior on Yelp. Just to start off with, who uses Yelp for reservations any more? This is so dated and honestly emblematic of the experience we had. The setting of the restaurant is fine. Along a Mariana that has covered outdoor seating and plenty of parking. The food is terribly expensive and not good. I got the lobster roll thinking that no one could mess up a lobster roll but I was wrong. The lobster was over cooked and lacking flavor. The snow crab roll was inedible. The people who worked at the restaurant were friendly but a bit odd and like they didn’t really know how to work in a restaurant or communicate effectively. I realize there are not a lot of options on Shelter Island in the summer for meals but I would not go back here and I would not recommend.

Google
The fact I couldn’t get pictures of the two entree’s should be very telling. Every dish we ordered was fantastic, made with such talent and love. Please do yourself the favor of trying the seared Tuna sandwich!!!! Fantastic. And the Carrot cake is good enough to save the world. A great variety of drinks as well. Blue crab roll is distinctly East end, a diverse taste that feels at home on the docks of SALT. I wish the Artichoke had some more garlic/ginger or just another primary flavor to enhance the artichoke texture and taste. Looking forward to seeing this place in full summer bloom. Come check it out!!

Google
Salt was great for a Sunday lunch. The GF and I, took the ferry over in the morning. Drove around and checked out the island. We ate lunch at Salt. I recommend you make reservations as it fills up fast. I had the Lobster Roll and she had a sushi roll. We sat outside, right next to the boats docked. The atmosphere was great on a beautiful Sunday. Service was great and the food was delicious. We plan to return.

Google
Fantastic dockside eatery with great seafood, picture perfect outdoor dining and good service!

Google
What a gem this place is - the setting, the staff, the atmosphere is just stunning - and the menu! Delicious Lobster Roll, tuna crispy rice and the toro bomb were all fresh and so good! Make a point to spend some time at Salt - wonderful relaxing day and attentive staff

Yelp
Ambience was great beautiful view watched the wedding happening So this was attentive, even with a 15 month old Food was good. Drinks were delicious.

Yelp
Burger was very good but $28 Lobster roll good but $48 Clam Chowder good but $16 for small bowl Here's the kicker $24 for Carrot cake, yes it's a big portion but not necessary to be Costco size. $5 for bread and butter? Come on There was a party of 10-12 having too much fun. They were very loud and the restaurant did nothing. Despite all the above, quality food and fun place. Would go again just be aware of the above.

Yelp
Nice place on the water in shelter island. Our waitress was super nice. We ordered sushi and muscles for appetizers. They were just ok. I got the chicken Milanese. It tasted pretty good. But it is usually served with arugula not red leaf lettuce. For dessert i finally got my mudslide. Which was also ok. Overall a nice place. Food was just ok.

Dan S.

Yelp
Top tier establishment, the staff is friendly and fun! Shoutout to Luciana !Food was exceptional and the portions are generous as well as great quality. Highly recommend! Well done!

Yelp
The food is wonderful, the cocktails are amazing, and the people are all time - so kind, responsive, and efficient. The vibe is perfect rain or shine!

Yelp
Good service, nice views being at the waterfront. I liked that there was a merch store connected to the restaurant, as well! Good options to choose from in the menu.

Yelp
This was our last dinner on Shelter Island and so glad we chose Salt! We honestly felt like we were in the tropics or another waterfront destination far from Long Island. We got to sit outside, right on the dock which was a nice view of the water and its boats. Our server was super friendly and helpful, and knew the menu well. We were interested in the "butter service" appetizer which ended up being such a nice choice! We had so much butter leftover that we took it with us to use again! The sushi rolls were fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Our entrées were excellent and I highly recommend the warm lobster roll! Salt was such a great experience that this will likely be our first stop the next time we visit Shelter Island!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had a late lunch at Salt. He had the poke bowl and I had the lobster roll. Both were very good. Local oysters were interesting and wonderful. I had the most sublime lavender lemonade and my boyfriend had a Bloody Mary which he said was great. Service was friendly and quick. Sitting outside under an umbrella was fun whilst watching the boats come in. Pricy but understandable because of the location. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Quaint little restaurant in the marina on shelter Island the service was excellent and quick, the food was very good. The lobster roll was a bit pricey so was everything else but it was highly recommend. Definitely will come back.

Yelp
I enjoyed the laid-back, casual vibe at Salt. While the food wasn't outstanding, it's definitely worth trying. The service was a bit slow, but the staff was friendly and accommodating. I ordered the TUNA POKÉ, which was fresh, but the ginger had an off taste--almost as if it had been left out too long or wasn't of good quality.
google avatar

Yelp
Pleasant waterfront restaurant along the docks, nice outdoor bar with live music adjacent. Ample parking, all seating is on dock or under tent. Fare is standard summer beach offerrings. Crabcake app with mint chutney was the clear highlight of apps. Calamari, tuna sandwich also nicely done. Drink selection better than to be expected, would revisit

Yelp
First time dining in Shelter Island and our party was a bit disappointed. Our food took over an hour and a half to come and drinks took 30+ minutes. Our waitress, Jackie, was super sweet and improved our experience. The food was delicious so that made up for the wait times. I would recommend only coming here with a small party--- our group was a party of 10 and it does not seem like they have proper kitchen staff to accommodate that party size.

Nick F.

Yelp
Excellent service. Great place to stop for lunch if you are on a day trip like we were. I enjoyed the Tuna Poke, the Mezzo appetizer, and of course a tall Narragansett. Beer was cold and the food was fresh. Pleasant outdoor seating overlooking the marina.
google avatar

Yasmin K.

Yelp
Ida is a great server, friendly, helpful. Food is fresh new items every season. We will be back.

Fran D.

Yelp
The food was super delish and very fresh. Katelyn E was an amazing server. Ask for her ! She was very attentive and was awesome.
google avatar

Andrew F.

Yelp
Good food. Nice sized portions. Service is hit or miss but you can't beat the views of the marina

Diana C.

Yelp
Had a lovely time! Great food, wine, and service. Definitely recommend SALT for lunch or dinner!

Eva J.

Yelp
Great place for lunch on the weekends. Katelyn E was our server she was excellent and super helpful with our little kids. Sushi was delicious!
google avatar

Caaron W.

Yelp
Salt is a great spot to enjoy a drink and look at boats. The service is earnest- but the kitchen needs work. The mesclun salad was wilted. The tuna was not fresh. The chowder was great- best thing in the dinner. Nice cocktail and beer choices. Uneven food. I suggest going for drinks and chowder- maybe oysters/ clams.

Yelp
Service was A++++, our server, Jackie, was such a gem, wow. The best attitude, so friendly, just amazing vibes. She was such a bright light in our evening. Also, the food was fantastic, actually the best lobster roll I've ever had!!

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Good food and service and a lovely setting. Have been going here for years! A favorite of the entire family.

Martha M.

Yelp
When arriving ... it's a beautiful scene and ambiance is great too . The people who work there are so inviting and sweet. The food and presentation is fresh and all delicious I have had many dishes this year already .... Keeps me coming back to try other terrific things .

Tom S.

Yelp
Food so so definitely not go back service was terrible To noisy. I would say boat front not exactly water front

Marianne D.

Yelp
Love this place! Great food and relaxed vibe. Reminds me of the Caribbean. The rum punch is excellent.
google avatar

Rosa R.

Yelp
You can get here by boat or ferry easily. Still not as warm so they had a tent with a heater for outdoor seating. Service was great with our party of 8, and the food was phenomenal.

Taryl W.

Yelp
The outdoor patio was very welcoming and the weather was perfect for sitting outdoors. The calamari, salmon dinner, Oysters, and chocolate lava cake were delicious! The spicy tuna roll was tasty, too. The server was also very sweet.
google avatar

Nella B.

Yelp
Very nice dinner here tonight with family. Clams on the 1/2 shell, fried calamari and dumplings as apps were delicious. A few of us had the steak and a few had the burger. Both delicious! Good menu good service . Def would go back

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch with a group of 5 people. This is one of the few restaurants on Shelter Island. We ordered clam chowder, lobster rolls, and fish tacos. The clam chowder was creamy, seasoned well, and full of ingredients (bacon, clams, potatoes). The lobster roll bun was well toasted and buttery. The lobster was a bit bland though. The fries were very crispy. The fish tacos were tasty and well seasoned. I didn't like that they use takeout containers instead of actual plates. I understand it's cleaner but it's wasteful to use so many disposable things. Service was very fast and friendly. I would come back if I'm ever in the area.

Yelp
Never again... we have summered on Shelter Island for more than 25 years and have experienced the full spectrum of the vagaries of restaurant dining (mediocre overpriced food, poor service, etc). Both of our families who also live here recommended SALT. On this particular occasion, we wanted to take our close friends for a reunion celebration and made a reservation here (my first mistake). My wife has mobility challenges (uses a walker) so I scoped / mapped the best approach to the area with open tables and explained that to the 'Hostess' who with apparent indifference (ignorance) insisted on seating us on the upper deck requiring multiple steps to traverse. To minimize the social discomfort for all involved, I acquiesced (second mistake). While visibly struggling to reach it, the tables below remained unoccupied for the duration of our dining. That said, the third-mistake was not to walk away (with some repeated difficulty) despite the self-imposed social pressure. Worth mentioning that the server was perfectly sympathetic and polite - he deserves no blame for the disappointing entrees...

Sharon S.

Yelp
Made a reservation for my very special birthday & mentioned it to person taking it. Was seated on upper level of awning section. Next to a extremely group of 10 inebriated very loud men. I did not want the bar area, this was the restaurant part. The food was passable, not up to par with the extremely high prices for very small portions, cooked poorly. I gave it a 3* only because the waitress was very nice. My special birthdays will not be celebrated here. The view could not be appreciated, since it was blocked. Try another venue.

John N.

Yelp
Nice location. Good food Service was slow considering there were lots of staff just walking around.
google avatar

Bob K.

Yelp
One of my favorite places! The food and service were both awesome! We had a lovely dinner in a beautiful setting.

Kathryn R.

Yelp
The lobster roll was very good as well as the fries. Had a Jalapeño Margarita to start which was outstanding. However, the service left a bit to be desired. It's hard enough dining on your own, but then when you feel invisible, it's even worse. Took longer than usual for waiter to come to my table. The hostess left a second place setting so he claims he thought I was waiting for another person to arrive. Other than taking my order and asking me if I wanted dessert, he never came back to the table. Not even to see if the food was all right or if I needed anything else. Also, he never offered specials which he did to other tables. To top it off, the "manager", I imagine, stopped at all the tables at some point during everyone's meal to check if everything was okay, but never came to ask me. It is a lovely place, but the staff should be more attentive to everyone.

Yelp
Beautiful place with great views and A great menu. We had the veggie burger and sushi along with wings to start and everything was fresh and delicious. Children had chicken sandwiches and pasta 10.00 children's menu is a great deal. Thought other options were a little Pricey but good quality of food. Mimi our sever was sweet and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Blaire H.

Yelp
Food, service and vibes are always on point. You can not go wrong with anything you order either- everything is so yummy! Even have done takeout before and it hits the spot. A staple on the island for our family!
google avatar

Lindsey S.

Yelp
Giving stars for food only. Terrible service, unfortunately. Our main server was what ruined the experience. This feels silly to say, but our beverages/water were never refilled.. When I asked for recommendations or highlights on the menu, she had nothing to say... When I asked about the oysters, I asked if there was a minimum or if I could just order a couple and all I got was a short "No." ................. so then I had to pull teethe and ask, "Okay so how many do I need to order?" Maybe she was having a bad day. Was just odd as we have had an extremely pleasant and beautiful experience on Shelter Island and this was the only negative interaction we had. Looking forward to future vacations here but will gladly dine elsewhere. Ordered calamari, truffle fries and chowder - all were good if you need food reccs. Hopefully you have a nicer server than we did. :)

Allie B.

Yelp
Not to be dramatic but I was incredibly disappointed. We arrived to wonderful ambiance on the water to an attentive hostess. After we sat down our experience soured. We went for the "Thai shrimp roll special." We expected actual shrimp but were served minced crustaceans which were not what we expected. We dared to also order the fish tacos after seeing several tables send them back. They were equally as awful. As for the service. Well it was just a tad better than the disappointing shrimp roll.

Yelp
Worst food poisoning in my life. Rather of gotten covid again. Do not get any salad from this place.

Budu T.

Yelp
We got here little before 3 n I'm still waiting for a waiter lol it's 430 There's more than 10 tables available so idk why it's taking so long to get service let along order our food
google avatar

Yelp
Great location. Great drinks. Delicious chicken wings. Great social distancing. Everyone wearing masks correctly. Love being able to order right from my phone and having the food and drinks delivered to "the Island"

Yelp
Great atmosphere, it gives off a great summer-beachy and casual vibe. I came with one other person around 6:30 on a Saturday night and we got seated right away. The food came out pretty quickly. We ordered the lobster roll (salt style), greentail roll, mahi mahi tacos, 1/2 dozen pearl oysters, 1/2 dozen gold oysters, and 1/2 dozen clams- everything was amazing. We were surprised with how much lobster we got in the lobster roll- they were nice big chunks of lobster rather than shreds. Greentail roll was a nice twist on sushi, wasn't expecting the fish to be cooked but it was still great. I would definitely come back next time I'm on SI!

Traci F.

Yelp
Great staff. Sushi fresh and delish. We came via boat, zero issues Would definitely come back

Bradley B.

Yelp
We spotted this location from the water. We had outstanding service and food at a great location. Would highly recommend. We also were able to listen to Gene Casey and company at Shipwreck Bar!

Katherine J.

Yelp
Always great food and love shipwreck for a cocktail and some live music. Perfect spot always

Kate B.

Yelp
Great, people, food, drinks, waterfront ambience. Sorry we have to cancel this afternoon.

Steve H.

Yelp
This place is at a great location but that's about it. The drinks as always are weak and the food is poor. We tried it for the first time in 2 years hoping that it had changed. Never again.

Peter G.

Yelp
Food is kind of perfect. Service is friendly and good. Ambiance is casual and lovely. The perfect beachy restaurant.
google avatar

Ricardo F.

Yelp
If you are looking for a place on shelter island to take in the scene and mingle with the locals and visitors alike. This is the place to go. It's the only place on the island in my opinion that has a city lounge vibe with a killer view. If you have a boat you can just sail right up and dock hop off and join the party. Always a great vibe here no matter what time you go but things tend to head up at sunset. They also have another bar that's just a few steps away made out of a old ship. I totally recommend this place lace to anyone. Oh! The customer service is on point too and the salt burger is gangsta shit! Best on the east end.
google avatar

Clayton S.

Yelp
The service was fantastic. Katelyn took great care of our table. The food is always excellent. We went for the sushi this time and it was great
