Went for my second time last night. I ordered the ribs and grits platter. The food was delicious. The ribs were very well flavored and the meat was falling off the bone. The grits were a good side dish with the ribs. My girlfriend ordered the Herb roasted chicken dish. She was excited to eat that dish again since she ordered it the first time we visited. Unfortunately she wasn't a impressed as i was. Her chicken was dry and not well seasoned. On another positive note, our server was very good. Even though it was really busy when we arrived she was very receptive to our needs and provided great service. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we ordered the chocolate 7 layer cake, which was delicious!

Young waiter was on point made excellent recommendations knew the menu and specials. Attentive but not intrusive. Food selection was plentiful and tasty. Pricey menu for a special occasion or a night in th he town. Manager passed by the table to check in.

I had a fantastic dining experience at the restaurant! It was bustling when we arrived a few minutes early for our 7:15 reservation. We decided to slide over to the bar and enjoy a cocktail while waiting for our table. For appetizers, we ordered the crack toast and ill-tempered tails, both of which were perfect starters. The main courses were fantastic as well. I had the shrimp and grits, which were excellent and abundant with shrimp. I also tasted the salmon, NY strip, and the flounder special, all of which were outstanding. The dessert menu was impressive, and we enjoyed a special crepe with lavender matcha and a coconut cake, both of which were delicious. I would definitely visit again!

Google
Extremely impressed with the food and service here. We were originally seated next to a table that had 6 very very loud people, who you could tell were getting on others nerves. Our waitress said something to a manager, who then immediately found us another table, and kept checking in on us throughout the meal. The service was amazing, the food was top tier, and we ordered a couple of extra desserts to take home. We will be eating here again and I look forward to it very much.

From the moment you walk in this treasure of a place, excellence is at the forefront. The service, food, and environment are the best on this island. The waitstaff is above and beyond and the chef deserves Michelin stars.

Google
Everything we ate was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable! I would move to Oak Island just to get the chance to eat here whenever I wanted. Do NOT skip out on dessert. Or the crack toast!!

Google
Everything about our experience at Salt64 was perfect. We made reservations ahead of time and we were seated on time, our waiter was attentive and friendly and the food was amazing. The salmon was perfectly prepared and not overcooked. I can’t boast enough! I highly recommend Salt64.

Google
We had a great experience here! We ordered the shrimp capellini, the crab fritters and the chicken tenders. Everyone was very happy with their entrees but what kicked us off to a great start was the crack bread- so gooooood!!! My suggestion if you’re planning to come here, have a reservation. We did not, but arrived at 4pm and their regular tables were already reserved. We were immediately sat in the bar area at a high top table which was completely fine for our family of 3, but will probably make a note to get reservations on our next visit! Bon appétit!

Yelp
Delicious food an excellent service I would highly recommend It's a little noisy, but that's because it's so popular

Yelp
Love Salt 64! Our new favorite restaurant! Fabulous food and great service! Especially love the fried Flounder, and Key Lime Pie with Meringue on top - yum!

Yelp
Food and service were outstanding! We will definitely be back! We were celebrating our anniversary and it was a wonderful experience!

Yelp
Located along Main Street in a resort town with very limited parking. They are super busy! If you go, you will find out why!! You yourself will come back over and over again. They do take reservations online. Otherwise you will be waiting (and it's worth every second). There are dining areas, a bar area with high tops, and a 6 seat bar. Had to go on waitlist for bar area. Sat around for 5 minutes and saw that there were 2 stools that came open so jumped in them. Bar area is super small - especially if on end where servers come through. The bartender is extremely busy, but took our orders quickly. Water glasses didn't go empty. He was very attentive and friendly. Seemed as if the air was not working in that area and there was a massive fan circulating some air. They have a lovely craft cocktail menu, as well as a fully stocked bar with all the things. We ordered Paradise (get this) and a Nobody's Fool (skip this- not very good). Anyone can find something on the drink menu here. They even have mocktails. Paradise was surprisingly delicious. We ordered apps instead of a full blown meal. We ordered a side of truffle fries (recommend - even though our order was full of tiny fries - still tasty ), French Onion soup (highly recommend - absolutely delicious), wings (don't leave without ordering them - grilled - it's wizardry), and something called Sweet Spicy - pork belly thing - can't remember name, but will remember the flavor! There wasn't one thing put in front of us that wasn't good. Carter, a very friendly manager stopped by to talk and make sure all was well. Very good customer service. We were stuffed, but were told about the key lime pie being house made. Ordered it to go. There are no words. No notes. Just pure silence once you taste this masterpiece. The creaminess of the key lime filling with the crunchy graham and the perfect meringue - to die for. Do not - I REPEAT - do not leave without ordering a slice or two (even if you have to take it to go). This should be featured on some show or taken down to Key West where it would give many places a run for their money. WOWZER!!! As a matter of fact, even if you can't eat at this amazing place, just stop in and order a piece to go! You too will sing like a canary about this delight. The prices you pay for what you get are beyond reasonable! The portions and quality are just fabulous. You can tell that they truly value your experience with them and that they pour their hearts into concocting delicious food. Don't miss out. We will be back.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious! Great friendly service and pleasant atmosphere. Love our experience at Salt 64! Will definitely make it a must in our next visit. My daughter and I shared a salmon, soup and crab cakes.

Yelp
Another trip to an amazing restaurant. The server was very nice and willing to tell us about the menu. The food was as good as we remembered from before. Drinks were strong but delicious. Definitely an awesome place to visit while in oak island

Yelp
One word: PHENOMENAL! This restaurant was truly wonderful and that was the best meal I've had over the last few months for sure. We were there early for our reservation and the host was kind enough to sit us early. The server was great and answered all our questions. The environment is darker which allows for a higher-end atmosphere, but it can get loud in the restaurant during peak hours. We started with the lobster tail appetizer (sorry no photo) and it was very tasty. All of our entrees were delicious and couldn't have imagined them tasting any better. The 7-layer cake is massive (big enough for 4-5 people) but goodness it is tasty! 100% worth checking out for a nice night out during a beach trip!
google avatar

Will P.

Yelp
The food was amazing! The service was top notch. The atmosphere was beyond friendly. Perfect beach getaway for date night! We tried the Ill Tempered Lobster Tails, Coastal Sunset Bisque, NY Strip, & Seared Tuna. Everything was beyond delicious! We ordered a 2nd helping of the tails as they were so good! Make reservations, but even still they worked us in faster than anticipated.

Yelp
Coming to Salt 64 was a great experience. The ambiance of this restaurant is clean and sophisticated. Great service, delicious drinks and food. The special was an amazing piece of african pompano that was freshly cut a few hours before. The sauce was delicious and it was topped with fried oysters. The deserts were to die for!!! I would come back to this place again.

Yelp
This was my third time dining here. It's the best place in the area and when I visit my family it's where we like to go. A reservation is a must, because the place is packed. There's a wide variety of foods and no one will leave hungry as the portions are quite generous. I shared a salad and then had a pasta dish. Everything was great, including the service.
google avatar

Karen B.

Yelp
Five stars across the board the service was excellent from the moment we walked in . This is a beautiful restaurant, dark and cozy with a quaint little bar in the back Our cocktails were delicious and the food was outstanding ! Do yourself a favor and reserve a table here the next time you're in Oak Island, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
A terrific "nice evening out while on vacation" experience. If you're like us we like to.plan one nice, dress up a bit evening on vacation. I had heard about Salt64 a month before our trip reading online news about the island. We made a reservation 4 weeks ahead of our trip. Salt is one of the few OKI places that takes reservations. Both our server and the food were superb! The portions were very generous and I thought prices reasonable for a nice place like Salt. Our table had: wing appetizer, onion soup, and caprese salad to start. Main courses were ribs (incredible, fall off bone 2 slabs), shrimp pasta, and the chicken and waffles. Lots of shrimp in the pasta, 2 huge chicken pieces with the waffle. We took dessert home: chocolate cake and NY cheesecake. Chocolate cake was huge easily serves 3. Taste reminded me of Costco chocolate cake. Salt 64 worth a special night out when you are in OKI.

Yelp
I went with my girls to this restaurant for the first time, and it was amazing. Our server, Tia, was so helpful and literally made no mistakes all night and was so friendly. The staff made great suggestions for our meal and was able to accommodate us last minute, although usually they need reservations. The environment was welcoming and warm. I appreciate it. The food quality was spectacular and came out in a very timely manner. For the price it is so worth it and I will definitely come back again. Thanks Tia you're awesome.

Brian K.

Yelp
Fabulous food and service to match! We highly recommend for any occasion. We look forward to returning.

Yelp
Visited again for dinner in middle of week. Had a reservation and was seated promptly. Our waitress, Julie, was with us immediately to ask for a drink request and go over day specials. I started with Seafood Bisque soup which taste good and cream but wish it was a little thicker. My wife ordered Fried Flounder that came with a small portion of slaw, side of tarter sauce and a generous portion of chunked creamy mash potatoes. I ordered Crusted Salmon over a bed of risotto/arugula. The portions are good size and we took at least a third of our meal home. I feel the meal values are good. We always seem to order a fish when we dine here.

Michele L.

Yelp
I ordered the Salmon. It was nothing like the menu described. No taste of horseradish or Romano on the salmon and no taste of garlic in the risotto and there was no arugula or gastric. The asparagus was overcooked. We sent it back twice and wound up having it taken off our bill. All And all food was very under seasoned. However, flounder was the best my husband's ever had.

Teddy D.

Yelp
Salt 64 is kind of a strange restaurant in that the vibe is a little stuffy, the service is friendly, but a little slow and not all too attentive. My food was pretty good tasting but the portions should be adjusted down and priced accordingly. I honestly don't like the term "crack" when used to describe food. At a higher end restaurant, that term doesn't fit and the bread isn't addictive at all. The crab cakes stand out. Unlike the food portions which are large, the cocktail pours are light. I was expecting more out of this restaurant, but it was a decent meal.

Yelp
We went here for our 5th anniversary with our newborn. Food and ambience were excellent. Chocolate cake was to die for.

Mary S.

Yelp
The service was helpful and friendly. The manager stopped by the table twice to check on things. There seems to be three areas - a bar, casual area and upscale area. The atmosphere was comfortable. The food was excellent. Two of us had a dual plate of bbq scallops over creamed corn and filet mignon.
google avatar

Jay G.

Yelp
Just awesome! Our place for great dining experiences. Food great! Service great! Quality is first class!

Chico R.

Yelp
Not worth the money!! Our server Mark was excellent, attentive and thorough with his descriptions of specials and menu items. He even had pictures to show us. However, the manager was a complete snob and spoke to me like I was an idiot. My steak was overcooked and upon mentioning that he insisted I did not know what I was talking about. I have eaten steak before I know what medium rare is. For the price I paid for it the steak should have been prepared properly. Paid a bunch of money for sub par cooking and snotty management. I will not be returning.

Yelp
Outstanding dinner! Service was impeccable! Food was fabulous! JT took excellent care of us, timing was perfect. We had the crab fritters and the parma grana crusted breast of chicken. I will be back!

Yelp
Decided to review after our second visit to this restaurant. If we were rating off of food alone, then it would be a solid 4-5 stars. The good: the restaurant is pretty, well laid out, feels comfortable/clean and a nice atmosphere for dining. It is not super fancy, but a little nicer than the average beach restaurants. Both times we visited our food was good! Last night I had the osso buco which is an elevated pork pot roast with mashed potatoes, carrots, and green beans. It was flavorful and delicious. My wife had the crab fritters and they were good, but not outstanding. The fries were tasty! Honestly the hush puppies that came with it were freaking fantastic! They need an entire appetizer of those! We started with flash fried chicken wings and they were just ok, plus 3 of the wings had been fried so hard there was no differentiation between the bone and meat... they were black, not sure how they made it on our plate. Maybe the grilled are better? The sauces that came along were very tasty!! Now, the "ahhhh" part. Both visits have had really poor service. Like really poor. The first time they were super busy and it wasn't long after they had opened, so we figured it would work out once they were established. On this second visit it was my birthday and the hostess was really sweet and wished me happy birthday upon our arrival, and she even caught me on the way out and wished it again! Give that girl a raise! But, even though it wasn't busy when we walked in, the host stand was disheveled and they didn't greet us right away or at least smile, say hello and ask for just a moment. Needs a little tweaking. Our server was very friendly and polite, but not very good. We had ordered a salad, but it never arrived and our wings came out within what seemed like moments of ordering. It took a long time for our main course to arrive so when it finally did and we hadn't received the salad, we just left it alone. Our drink glasses were empty multiple times. Once she filled my wife's glass partially and said she would bring some ice; after 10 minutes my wife caught her and asked for ice again. After the second time the waitress went to another table, they requested something, she went straight to the kitchen and returned with what they asked for. Still no ice for us though. Took another 10 minutes and a third mention of the ice and by that time my glass had been empty for a while. I had asked for a side of butter to mix in with my potatoes, never arrived. They were not that busy last night, so I think they just need training with their staff. Overall it was ok, but there are other good results around with much better and more efficient service. The food is important, but how you treat people is how you build a lasting relationship with your clients. We eat at a restaurant close to our home all the time and the food is kind of bad, hahah! But our server is AMAZING, so we go back! To those about to nosh, good luck! I hope you have better service! We will not be back for a while, hope they improve.

Billy D.

Yelp
Amazing food and great atmosphere. Our server Madison was great. Chef specials were incredible. Highly recommend the cracked bread appetizer and the chocolate cake for dessert. A memorable dinner at a wonderful place.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! Nice atmosphere for a dinner out while in Oak Island. My family eat here at least once a month.
google avatar

Scott C.

Yelp
Amazing quick service, food was 100%, was a little loud for our taste, but that seemed to be because of the low ceilings and we were seated on the bar side, would definitely go back
google avatar

Yelp
1 star for the worst service we have ever experienced, and we didn't even eat the food. First, good luck getting a reservation if you have a group of 5 or more. After calling and leaving a message numerous times, we got no response for a couple days for a reservation. We even stopped at the restaurant in-person to make a reservation. We finally got a call back on the day they were able to offer a table, 2 hours before the time offered at 4 PM. This seemed extremely unreasonable, but we decided we would give it a shot. On arrival, 4 of us arrived before the rest of our group, which were a few minutes behind us. We asked if we could be seated, and the hostess, who was incredibly rude, insisted we had to wait for our whole group to arrive before being seated. Unfortunately, my pregnant wife got sick while waiting, so we had to leave. The hostess would not assure us that our group could keep our reservation due to the time it may take to take my wife home, which would have been a couple minutes. If you have a large group, go somewhere else for better service, and I am sure better food. This restaurant should consider replacing the hostess. We had Mr. P's Bistro the day before and it was amazing service with stellar food.

Yelp
Customer Service MINUS 1. Arrived celebrating a 70th birthday with matching 70th birthday shirts. This restaurant is terrible. Food takes forever to come out and management blames customers for complaining politely. We had reservations and ordered very simple kids food - CHEESEBURGERS. 25min later finally arrived but come on?! We still hadn't ordered our adult entrees and no waiter came to take any orders... Sorry but I don't have 2hrs to sit... If basic cheeseburgers take 25+min how long is a seafood entree?! My kid tipped water on the floor... Sorry but they've been waiting a long time and just did it. Management had to come and tell us it was unacceptable. What a disaster. First time we came here was first week they were open and wanted to give another chance. Never, Never again. Awful. Awful. Awful.

Yelp
Great restaurant, so glad they are here in the island. Some of the best food around. The staff is so friendly and super helpful. It has a great atmosphere and is not to loud. Get the ribs, you will never forget them!!

Abby N.

Yelp
Always great! The crack toast has us hooked. No pun intended. The grouper special was delicious. I almost swallowed it whole. No diddy.

Joshua G.

Yelp
Our photos speak for themselves. These dishes were as good as they looked! I highly recommend the Cherry Pie cocktail. Dangerously good. The deserts that come out are well portioned- and I recommend trying something!
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
Freakin awesome place. I don't know how they do it with it being so busy. The fried flounder is perfection. Who knew? Ends up I'm now a fan of grits. Great service. Came here twice while vacationing we liked it so much ps: artichoke appetizer was a treat too

Ed. J.

Yelp
The food is wonderful. First night I had the tuna so second night the swordfish special. Both meals are exemplary, and the same can be said for every order at our tables. The service on both nights is outstanding and worthy of mention I should only remember everyone's name! The ambience was a bit noisier than I would've liked, but not overwhelming. I'll rewrite this review to explain everything and how good it was later on. You won't find a better kitchen or a more attentive wait staff on the Cape Fear coast, even in the club restaurants
google avatar

Annette S.

Yelp
The food was fantastic and the service was amazing. They made one of the best exspresso martinis I've ever had!!

Queen City Princess G.

Yelp
Been coming to Oak Island for 20 years, trying calling to get a reservation 5 times. Mailbox is full, left one message 3 days ago and NO ONE ever called me back. Tried booking online, but bc I have a family of 5, it says I have to call directly.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Best food especially specials & don't forget dessert. Chocolate cake is enough for 2 for 2 days. Ambiance early & off season is wonderful. During peak season it tends to be noisy. Service is fantastic at a table. The bar area can be a little slow if restaurant is busy.
google avatar

Dale W.

Yelp
The food the service the ambiance always top notch. Their bar is top shelf. Great selection of bourbons and wine. Me and my wife eat here often and have never been disappointed.
google avatar

Debbie H.

Yelp
Stopped in, after work, for dinner last night. My food was good. The wine (Purple Cowboy Cabernet) was tasty. My waiter was excellent. He really made the evening for me. A legend, I'm sure. He had pictures of menu items on his phone. Seeing the dish was actually really cool. He also reseated myself and another table because our seats were very cold. I appreciated him "looking out for us". I had the Salt Angel Salad as my appetizer. Yum! I would have been happy with "just" that. The combination of flavors was wonderful and I loved the maple muscadine vinaigrette! Parma Grana Crusted Breast of Chicken for my main, with smashed potatoes. Perfectly time - this came out almost immediately after my salad was removed.

Amy C.

Yelp
We went on Friday evening, July 25 and had such a good experience that we thought we would go back and try it again on Saturday. We had reservations but they were late so we thought we would go in early and have a drink at the bar and wait. The hostess Katie was extremely rude and very aggressive. We just wanted to get a cocktail and wait to see if something opened up at the bar. She told us they had an hour and a half wait list just to sit at the bar. No grab a cocktail have a seat up front or outside and maybe if something opens we will let you know. It was just that. Rude. It was a hard no to everything. But the night before was so easy! We came in early, hoping to have a drink and we were welcomed and ready to wait. It was just the hard no to everything question and no eloquence to her answers. The restaurant was busy but no line, no people waiting on the bench. We just felt like we were not welcome. She called not even 7 minutes after we left to inform us a table at the bar opened up. Funny how there was an hour and a half wait list just to sit at the not even ten minutes prior. I said no ma'am, no thank you. I feel like I was personally being judged by her. Looked down on. So we went down the road to Edgewater 122, had an amazing meal with a waterfront table and one of the best meals we had on our trip. I will never, ever return or recommend just due to how she made me feel. Like I wasn't welcome to even wait and have a drink. Sad that they lost out on business due to her lack of customer service skills. As a business owner myself it only takes a little grace to go a long way.

Yelp
Delicious food. Great service. VERY fair pricing. Really a can't miss restaurant if you're visiting Southport or Oak Island. Make reservations!
google avatar

KC C.

Yelp
Really nice environment, friendly and helpful staff, professional wait staff, and outstanding food. We shared the crack toast and OG grill which are great starters. The halibut special filet was cooked perfectly. Pork Oso Buco was really a treat. And the ny cheese cake was excellent would feed several people so we enjoyed this as a take home as well. Five stars we'll be back.

Debbie M.

Yelp
Great food and service! Delicious fresh seafood and sides. Grits were great and seafood was exceptional!

Donna G.

Yelp
Perfection ! I look forward to returning on my next trip when I visit my family from NY we had a blast!!!

Mary L.

Yelp
Amazing! Great service, great food. We come at least 3 of 4 times a summer and about the same amount of times off season.

russell a.

Yelp
It is ok. I had their menu scallop dish. It was forgettable. The scallops were undercooked, but more so, this signature dish was ill conceived. Even if the scallops were perfect, the sauce and sides were a terrible combination. We had appetizers and 7 different entrees for the table. Nothing special for anyone. Jones 2.0

Gilbert M.

Yelp
Their beef is terrific and the appetizers I've tried (grilled artichokes) and sides (creamed spinach) have been perfect. My one issue I have with Salt 64 is that when it's packed, as it often is, it's loud. Too loud for me to comfortably hear the people at my table. It may be that I'm getting old (I'm not that old) but it is a concern. The ambient noise could be better handled by adding carpets / rugs/ plusher chairs / wall hangings - anything to absorb the ambient noise.

Amelia E.

Yelp
My family visited Salt64 last night. This is our second time trying this restaurant, and our experience was extremely lacking. My husband ordered scallops as his main entree, and there were more potatoes on the plate than actual scallops. The menu stated these were jumbo scallops; however this was not the case. My son ordered a filet at medium rare temperature. His steak came out extremely rare. He sent his steak back, and the second time it was cooked correctly. We were not offered a wine menu until we asked for one. We understand and appreciate having to pay me for higher end meals; however, the price our family paid to have a subpar experience isn't something we will do again.
