YEEEHAAAW Y'all!
There are many wonderful places in the world, but one of my favorite places is at The Salty Cowboy
This wasn't my first rodeo with taco joints, but I sure was kickin up my heels after eating here. The only reason to be salty is because I can't afford to eat here on a daily basis.
Regardless, I'll tell you how the cow ate the cabbage. While working in Indiana, my first visit to the Salty Cowboy was on a whim, when I was in desperate need of some good tacos, margs, and buckaroo's. While working in a small town in Indiana often felt like a whole month of Sundays, the Salty Cowboy provided comrades and cocktails. I even joined the rewards program during my time, because I ate here at least 3x per week...
The food was delish. On my first visit, I went whole hog, and ordered the "trailer park" to sample some salsa, queso and guacamole. All three sparked a wonderful frenzy amongst my taste buds. I also got the Pink Taco, Coco cabana, and clucking mango. All were phenomenal in their own degree, but my favorite was the coco cabana, so much so, I've tried to recreate it at home. It's a good balance of flavor and the fish was crisped to perfection.
Along, I ordered a few too many drinks, partaking in the whiskey and marg options. Let's just say I was drunker than Cooter Brown at the county fair by the time I stumbled out of The Salty Cowboy. I had to taxi back to my homestead.
The Salty Cowboy presents a wonderful aroma. If you're lucky enough to sit in the back bar area, visitors will experience a mix of cool secret basement, with dark painted walls and unique murals, with nods to artwork with cattle and skeletons, which we Americans idolize oh so much. They played a strong mix of bangers, including alternative and rock hits that would make a millennial get up sang. The staff also wears fun T-shirts with funny taco puns and I really wish I could get my hands on one of these. @TheSaltyCowboy, plz send me a shirt, and I will forever be endowed to your fine establishment.
The outhouse (bathroom) was clean, had fun finishes and was good overall. The bathroom had nice mirrors, to allow you to fix your makeup or hair before headed off to square dancing or whatever event you planned on next.
I can't wait to return. I plan to walk in like a cowboy in the 1800s, walking into the saloon to greet his compadres after years of separation.
Present day, Looking at the menu, I'm not sure why Salty Cowboy removed the og pink taco - the taco that drew my gaze to this place? The pink taco was perfection, the perfect blend of sweet heat, kickin all your tastebuds to Partay. It looks like they still might have it? I hope. Next time I'm back in Indy, I will for sure will be back.
