"Rustic Charm and Money Covered Walls If you find yourself in Homer Alaska , a visit to The Salty Dawg Saloon is in order. What I remember of Homer Alaska is fishing boats, cool air off the water, and friendly people. What I liked about the Salty Dawg Saloon was its charming rustic building, a little wooded cabin off a lighthouse. So much of Alaska’s spirit seems reflected in a history built on character, necessities, and natural resources, not on anything superficial or flashy. This Saloons building has real history and tells a story through all its past lives of post office, school house, water tank holder, and more (as can be read on the website). The drinks were the common ones of any American Bar, and the attire just as common being jeans and heavy sweaters mostly. The walls and ceiling are lined with money and notes from all the people that have pasted through over the years. It certainly is a place I would not mind finding myself in again one day."

Classic “must do” legendary dive bar on the Homer spit. It’s all about beer and SWAG, but you can also get mixed drinks. You have the see the “dollar bill” wall decor to believe it. The inside is a bit dark and “cozy” (aka a bit claustrophobic) but they also have outside seating. Go out behind the bar and see local pros filleting the days catch! VictorB

Had a great time at iconic bar at the spit with my entire family. Had a great time and shot some pool. Got a great sweatshirt out of the experience as well. It’s a cash only bar so fatten those wallets

This. Place. Is. EPIC! Enjoying an Irish coffee with friends after a night of shenanigans and music. The soundtrack here is Pink Floyd, 70’s and 80’s rock. The bar mistress is my spirit animal and I just got the coolest Tshirt. Atmosphere is super chill and welcoming. Drinks are appropriately spiked and I will never forget the dollar bill aesthetic. 10/10.

Friendly staff and patrons. Locals and tourists visit here. Not a fan of bars with dollar bills hanging all over but still a good time here. Lucky to be here after boat tour and the fish place came over and sold me cod/fries (big portions) for $10! They were closing for the season.

Google
Awesome dive bar fun place. Don't know if they serve food or not. Bartender has a heavy hand when pouring drinks very nice

Google
This is such a fun experience if you're a local or just a tourist. The drinks are delicious, the bartenders are kind, the atmosphere is as cool in person as it looks online. The establishment is cash only so make sure you come prepared to avoid ATM fees! Leave your mark with a personalized dollar. We spent all day here playing pool, listening to live music, all around a great time. Will be coming back!

Google
Old-school baby. Great place to wind down and relax after halibut fishing on gulf. Lotta fisherman, some tourists..thank God still unique places like this. Frequent them so they can stay in business everybody pretty friendly. Buy a fisherman a drink; it's rough out there last 3 days..

Google
This place is a must stop when you are remotely close to the area. Don't forget your cash as they don't take plastic. They don't have beer on tap but the atmosphere makes it worthwhile.

Yelp
This old place is just a hoot. We were actually searching for an ATM machine and stumbled in here. We found the ATM and then had to stay and have a beer. This is must experience bar in this small hamlet.
google avatar

Yelp
Normal service the bartender was friendly may have skimmed a dollar or two every drink !! We still tipped generously. The vibe is what you're there for Rustic place

Yelp
If you think you've seen bars with dollar bills hanging all over the walls.. you ain't seen nothing until you've seen this joint!! Old cabin from the 1930's converted to a bar & it's not very big inside although they do have an outdoor seating area. Great joint to have a few beers and put your dollar on the wall after a long fishing trip! Prices are about average & watch for drunken tourists who look to be at their first rodeo// Talk Later

Yelp
We made a day trip to Homer from Seward and this spot was mentioned a lot on Reddit so I thought we might as well check it out. Salty Dawg Saloon is truly an experience. It was rainy and cold outside so people had packed in to get some warmth. The establishment is cash only, but there's an ATM if you don't have any. It was busy but service was prompt and super friendly. As the kids would say, the vibes were immaculate.

Yelp
This place is awesome and we just had to visit! Although it is small, it was packed for a Sunday.
google avatar

Yelp
Neat dive bar out in the spit. Everything is covered in dollar bills. It's worth a visit. But the prices and drinks were ok, not great. And the service was short and rude. Definitely a tourist trap.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Awesome place for a great vibe and drinks!!!! So glad we stopped in and checked it out on our 50th birthday trip.

Yelp
Had a great time over Christmas! Bartender happily kept topping off my boozy coffee with whipped cream. Can see why it's so popular, would def come back if I'm in Homer again

Haley Y.

Yelp
Go to Salty Dawg Saloon, we had a really good time. The bartenders were really nice and super quick to make your drinks. Good vibes with locals and visitors alike

Yelp
A great local bar. Friendly staff with good service. I recommend this place if you want just a bar not food.

Yelp
Why wouldn't you stop by???? Place is iconic! Remember to duck when going in and out.

Yelp
Great ambience, Excellent staff, yummy drinks, all-in-all, an absolute must!! Just FYI, Cash Only!

Yelp
Everything you could ever need to end a perfect day in Homer! Awesome staff and cheap drinks! Be sure to bring cash. Extra dollar bills are a plus!!
google avatar

Yelp
Fun dive bar. Cash only. Sign a dollar bill and become part of the history. The wearable souvenirs are excellent.

Yelp
Places is very down to earth , definitely a place to stop and have few drinks. I order "something sweet" it was very good and strong . The place is very fun the bartender is amazing . Going back there tonight again. Music was very pleasant. Definitely a place to check out
google avatar

Yelp
What a fun and inviting bar this was out on the spit! I went during the off-season, but it was still a nice place to drop in and have a drink!
google avatar

Corabelle G.

Yelp
Total hole in the wall bar. Walk in and I am shocked with what we see. Dollar bills on every wall & ceiling. Write a note on the dollar bill and pin it to the wall. This historic spot is a definite stop for all visitors. It's a really cool, tiny place to grab a drink and relax
google avatar

Yelp
A must nostalgic stop when in Homer. Bring cash , that's all they take, grab a cold one and settle in. After awhile you will start to try and count the abundance of currency labeled and hung on every square inch of the place. If lucky you can sit outside or spot a recent catch being fileted. The bartender was busy but care of everyone! Enjoy
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
The ambiance is unlike anything else. Located on the Spit in Homer, it's a small, cool bar with dollar bills all over. CASH ONLY! Service was fast, merch was plentiful! Salty Dawg was recommended by a local and I recommend it to anyone who needs a drink! Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Very cool dive bar. Service was friendly and the beer was cold. This is a fun bar to hang out in while in Homer.
google avatar

Shawn H.

Yelp
It's the best known dive bar in the coolest fishing town in Alaska, need I say more? See you there again this summer, we'll be returning July 6-13, 2024!
google avatar

Nancy D.

Yelp
There are dive bars, but this one is a must see one in a million. I've never seen anything like it before to this level. There isn't a surface that hasn't been papered with signed dollar bills from around the world in the interior of this bar. We dropped a fortune in sweatshirt and T-shirt purchases and had a chance to be creative with our graffiti both on the dollar bills and on the patio walls. Put it on the Homer must do list.
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
The Dawg is nostalgic for us, having been raised in Alaska. Nowadays, it's a huge tourist attraction, but on slower nights outside of the short summer season, you'll still easily find a spot at the bar and be able to reminisce with some Homer locals. Cash only (with an ATM available), no food, and updated jukebox.
google avatar

Dawn M.

Yelp
The draw to the bar is that everyone hangs a dollar bill anywhere they would like. The real draw is that the Salty Dog was a lighthouse during a 9.2 earthquake and was the only building to survive!! It's CASH ONLY- even for merchandise (merchandise also available behind the bar, in the Salty Girl gift shop, and they take cards) . Service depends on the bartender- we stopped in 3 times after fishing- 1st time was awesome, Erica, super nice and then the 2nd was a bit cold and our 3rd time we were celebrating a great fish day by ordering shots and the bartender told us if we get drunk she would call the cops! Really? There were 4 of us and we had 2 beers and shot and left. Didn't go back again.

Yelp
If you're ever in Homer Spit, Alaska you have to visit the Salty Dawg Saloon. If Webster's had a definition for Dive Bar the Dawg's photo would be next to it. Our group had just returned from a 4 hour Halibut trip in cold, wet conditions and decided to have a few drinks and buy some souvenirs. The bar is covered walls to ceiling in dollar bills signed by the previous visitors. The place reminds you of the bar from the Star Wars movie in a good way. Our group ordered mostly local Alaskan Brews (all good) but one of our guys was cold to the bone from fishing. The bartender whipped up a fine Hot Buttered Rum for him that hit the spot. I was waiting for Jack Sparrow to stroll in and order some Grog. Must see place when in Homer Spit.
google avatar

Bruce M.

Yelp
Must see to believe. Drinks are fantastic, but space is coolest for 100 miles. Food is hot dogs, plain or spicy, but drinks are the absolute highlight.
google avatar

Tara E.

Yelp
Really, you just come here for a beer and to leave a dollar on the wall. It's a must stop destination if ever you are in Homer.
google avatar

Justin F.

Yelp
This is definitely not a family experience However, for singles or couple it's a cool history behind this place, that was the main reason why I went there. It was so busy however that there was hardly standing room there! The was stinky and loud and not preference of someone to grab a beer but all in all I'd say it's worth see it, if your on the Homer Spit!
google avatar

Pablo S.

Yelp
Such a crazy little piece of americana way out in Alaska. The place was packed to the gills but I was able to get an ice cold domestic beer and stand for a spell while my wife did a little tourist shopping around the area.
google avatar

Yelp
After the long trek from Anchorage to Homer on a snowy and rainy day I was looking forward to experiencing something in Homer. Thank goodness for the Salty Dawg, it's about the only place/bar even open and one of the places on my list to check out. It's a total little dive bar which I was completely enthusiastic about visiting. I ordered an amber beer and told myself celebrating my birthday surrounded by cash has got to be a good omen for my next 365 day trip around the sun. I put a song on the juke box and wrote on a dollar to hang up in the place and I was out. Short and sweet visit. I can see how when this town is lively and thriving, non pandemic, non off season this could be a really fun little spot to get together. Don't go to Homer without going to the Salty Dawg, it's my wish for you.

Sandy K.

Yelp
A fun dive with good drinks at reasonable price! Check it out and buy a Tshirt! Fun people and great bartenders
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
Great place to stop in for a cold adult beverage. Great atmosphere, fun and full of Friends in Low Places vibes. Bring $1.00 bills and make it known that you were there.

Tami P.

Yelp
Fun place to sit for a drink. Friendly environment. Seeing all the dollars is a unique experience.

Nema S.

Yelp
We had a blast having drinks here. The wait staff was very attentive. The speciality cocktails were absolutely delicious. The only thing we did know was that it's a CASH ONLY place. They do have a ATM.
google avatar

Randy M.

Yelp
Unfortunately this place is only good for a "I'm a tourist who has visited homer" sweatshirt. Cool building, but always pissed off staff, super basic beer selections and not even allowed to have dogs on the patio. Ehh. No thanks.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
The miller lite was cold, the bartenders are assholes, dollar bills stapled to the wall if that's your thing...

Erika K.

Yelp
Bad experience with rude staff, many other better locations on the spit. There are a lot better places all over the spit, avoid this one!
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Very fun place with friendly staff and a good beer and liquor selection. It is a staple on Homer Spit and a must visit!
google avatar

Sean R.

Yelp
If you are gonna hang out in a bar in Homer there isn't a better one. It's s a mellow fisherman/local hang out in the winter and can be a crazy busy madhouse in the summer. If you are in Homer you should definitely stop into the Dawg.
google avatar

Paul J.

Yelp
This place makes all those only in your state and oldest bar lists. I love stuff like that! It did not disappoint. It is a shack right off the spit and you walked down into it and don't realize how big it is until you get inside. There's the usual kitchen dollar bills everywhere but the real charm is that it is full of locals and tourists and is a fun place to have a beer or a salty dog after a long day out in Homer. Parking is all along the street out front and I can't recall a bathroom.
google avatar

h l.

Yelp
I wish I wasn't always disappointed by this Homer icon! I've tried so many times to have a good time here but It's a locals bar. I don't mind waiting for a drink but not when totally ignored! No thanks, I'll spend my money somewhere else!
google avatar

Micki S.

Yelp
Very much a dive bar where you just get served bottles and cans of beer. It's a interesting atmosphere with money and other random things attached to all the walls and ceilings. When we went there was no music and it wasn't packed so it also felt awkward being in a silent bar. It's an iconic spot but one time was enough.
google avatar

Adam D.

Yelp
I get that you have to take this place for what it is, but that doesn't mean the bartender has to be rude to customers. We went here for the first time and ordered a drink at the bar. My beer was $6. I remember this price, because the bartender told me twice I had to pay before she served me. "Cash only, and I need you to pay now. That's not a knock on your character. That's just how we do business." Her exact words. I gave her $10. She must have thought she deserved a $4 tip for her friendliness because she never gave me change. Sadly, the saltiness of the dawg rubbed off on the staff.

Ben N.

Yelp
Salty dog is a must go to bar in homer Customer service was great and friendly No beers on tap just can and bottles and cocktails. Cash only no credit card excepted.
google avatar

Yelp
If you ever make it to Homer Alaska, you have to grab a drink at The Salty Dog Saloon...for sure, its a landmark! Fun place to meet people and the drinks were great...of course, we had to have a Salty Dog and their signature drink...a "Duck Fart"
google avatar

Renee L.

Yelp
A overpriced canned beer in an interesting place filled with dollar bills hanging everywhere. Ok, but not a must do, IMO.
google avatar

Keenan F.

Yelp
This is an awesome little bar on the spit. It's cash only, so come prepared, and bring an extra dollar to hang on the wall.
google avatar

Valerie T.

Yelp
In the middle of all the shops, fishing and delightful food is a small hole in the wall saloon where you give a dollar signed and leave a great memory of your time in Homer. After a long day of fishing when you need a good cold brew or stiff drink this cave of dollars is filled with laughter and dollars making for great conversation and a place to reflect on a day on the water, hiking or just kicking back and enjoying the natural beauty of Alaska.
