Salvation Cafe

We had our staff year-end here. Peter, our waiter, was fantastic with managing our 13-people group, he was friendly, engaging and did help us with queries. It is a lovely atmosphere with the surrounding market-like feel! The food was okay, a bit overpriced and the G&T at R92 per drink is quite expensive. The carrot cake is phenomenal (in my view, better than the cheesecake the place is known for).

Salvation Café has a great vibe and a relaxed atmosphere, although it can get very busy and packed, which sometimes makes the service a bit slow. I had the Salvation Café gourmet burger and really enjoyed it — it was juicy, meaty, and generously topped with bacon and avocado. The flavours were rich and satisfying. The overall atmosphere is chilled, but when the place fills up it can feel a little overwhelming.

I went there for lunch with my husband, parents and my two children (1 and 5 years old). I asked for a table outside, which was very important for us because it is too noisy inside with kids and much more comfortable outside. The manager A initially offered us a table on the terrace. I asked if I could quickly go and get my family, who were about 10 seconds away (they couldn’t wait on the stairs). When we came back, the table had been given to another family. I said it was not a problem and that I was happy to wait. She then asked us to sit inside for a drink and said she would give us a table outside as soon as one became available. We sat inside, had our drinks, and I checked with her again, confirming that I was happy to wait if that was easier for them. Unfortunately, the outside table was once again given to another family. In the end, my family (who I see once a year) ate without me because the baby preferred to stay outside, and I had to take my lunch away. Unfortunately the manager was clearly the weak link in what could have been a pleasant experience. Waitress are kind and food is good.

Cafe Salvation at 44 Stanley is a great Cafe with good food, top service and beautiful ambience. We had egg shashuka and vegan shashuka with fresh fruit juices which were so delicious and enjoyable.

Very popular with the breakfast and lunch crowd with a very comfy, cozy atmosphere thanks to the blankets and heaters provided in the winter months. We rolled in after a chilly morning spent at the WITS Parkrun and were grateful for the brisk service of getting our hot drinks and food. The breakfast menu is great and well portioned.

Good vibe. And that’s the only saving grace here. Service attitude of this lady was bad, she had no smile and seem to hate her job. I occupied a table of 4 as I wanted a patio seat that has a clear view of the area and not too close to the plants. The rest of the seats were taken. I told them if they needed the space I could shift later. One of the staff was good with it while she questioned this staff who allowed it and looked at me with disdain. She later told me they can’t do shashuka because there’s no gas but did not give me any other option to wait for them to get it fixed. I was here for this one thing and it was not delivered. I had another pesto toast instead because there weren’t much options. It was so-so. I only knew about shashuka offered when I saw someone serving it. I could have waited if I knew. Overall vibe was ok but food and coffee was mediocre. Service was ok, not so much the service attitude of this particular lady.

Jack was outstanding from start to finish. He was warm, attentive, and such a pleasure to chat to - the kind of person who instantly makes you feel comfortable. The service was excellent, and he genuinely went above and beyond. A real asset to the restaurant! 😊
