Dom Zu Salzburg (Salzburg Cathedral)
At 12noon, we attended a concert at the Salzburg Cathedral (built 1628). This cathedral is significant for its historical role as the site of Mozart's baptism. The organ concert was a captivating experience in the majestic Cathedral. The concert lasted for 30 minutes and featured the sounds of seven different organs, including the large organ with over 4,000 pipes located in the west gallery. The concert began after the cathedral's bells rang at noon. Sitting in the front row of the Cathedral, I felt like I was in Heaven.
Salzburg Cathedral is a major early Baroque church dominating the Old Town, known for its white marble façade, twin towers, and large central dome, and is one of Salzburg’s key landmarks and worship sites. It stands on a site first consecrated as a cathedral in 774 and the current building dates from the 17th century, later restored after wartime damage. The Cathedral has striking architecture and interior: the bright Baroque nave, frescoed ceilings, stucco work, and impressive organs, the space as awe‑inspiring yet peaceful. The Cathedral has a strong historical and musical connections, including Mozart’s baptismal font and regular sacred music or organ concerts, which many find deeply moving.
