Pretty sure I either missed a lot in this museum or large segments of it were not open to the public at the time of my visit. Regardless, it's poorly organized and the staff are both intrusive and unhelpful. I'm looking at many pictures here and I can't remember how I could possibly miss those rooms, oh well.. I did enjoy the musical instruments section so it wasn't a complete waste of time

A lot of historical artwork showing the archbishops of area that were religious leaders. An entire room of historic musical instruments. There is also quite a bit of more modern art. Rooms full of ancient artifacts from the area, including Roman artifacts. Only 9 Euros to visit, so worth the stop.

I would highly recommend this to anyone who is visiting Salzburg! It was a modern museum with a touch of something for everyone, from the paintings of the city to special exhibits on coffee to the children's area! If you're here, GO!!

Excellent place to learn a little history of Salzburg with some fun activities for kids. Brilliant use of space and displays. Most narration in German but you could supposedly get an audio guide for your own leisure learning. Funnily we were not told where we could get them. Guy selling tickets by the counter look less than enthusiastic about his role other than making sure everyone deposits their bags before entering. Café within the museum really is a self service coffee maker which you'll need to pay by coins for an espresso or coffee. No food available so be prepared.

It's a beautiful city bell in a cozy and charming town. Around these fountains and restaurants. Beautiful historic area.

On Thursday’s at 5:30 they offer a tour of 15 ppl max that goes up the tower and witnesses the bells being played. Really fun experience, but I was kind of scared of going up because they tell you at the beginning of the tour to not hold on to the railing in the tower as you might fall.

Located on the eastern side of Residenzplat is the Salzburg Glockenspiel. It's okay, nowhere near as good as the one in Glockenspiel and certainly as entertaining.

Definitely a must with a wealth of interesting, historic exhibits

Yelp
As the names suggests it focuses on Salzburg's creative history. It spans multiple centuries, and as time progressed with the exhibitions it was not as interesting. The exhibition rooms felt disjointed in flow and in concept. I might have felt differently if it wasn't my last museum for the day and if I had an audio guide. I am not even sure if they have the later, but none of the staff offered unlike other places.

Yelp
A wonderful museum featuring the history of Saulsburg and many other exhibits. Housed in a baroque resident palace this main museum takes you on a fascinating romp through Salzburgs past and present. Ornate rooms showcase everything from Roman exclamations to Royal portraits. They were free guided tour is at 6 PM every Thursday. The museum also has a café. A gift shop and lockers where you can store your stuff. You can take a stroller into the museum because there is ever elevators that take you to each floor. At the time the feature exhibit was "what role did the Salzburg museum play during the Nazi regime" It was quite a eye-opener. An interesting perspective for sure. It is a great place to go in the middle of the city. Not just for rainy days
