I came to see The Sound of Music show. It was breathtaking. The skill of the puppeteers was exceptional, bringing the story to life in new, creative ways. The show is reasonably priced, and the theatre itself is beautiful. The puppets and scenery are works of art in themselves. It was an amazing experience.

An incredible display of a cultural tradition that adds to the rich Salzburg tradition.
UNESCO describes it as the "most highly developed form of puppet and figure theatre", and has placed the Salzburg Marionette Theatre in the their List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Highly skilled puppeteers each work twelve strings from two metres above. The practice, skill and choreography that goes into each production is mind boggling.

We saw The Magic Flute. The puppets were beautifully made and the performance was very charming.
Our view was not so good because of taller people in front of me. There were some subtitles shown to help explain the story, but a bit more would have been helpful.

Love the way it forms part of a historical landmark. Small museum, but packed with marionettes. Some interactive activities to play with included. Overall fun for young and old.

Cash only inside for beverages, and only available before the show and intermission (drinks/wine can't be taken inside)
This was different, fun, quirky, ~ 2.5 hours with intermission.

4 stars because it's hard to see in the seats. My husband couldn't see at all and went home because of it. I had to bob and sit high in my seat to see. The stage should be higher.
The puppets and puppeteers were pure magic! It's a shame you can't really see it due to the seating design.

Visited on a Sunday to see a performance of Der Alte Baum (The Old Tree). This beautifully performed show played to a full house with live music from the orchestra and incredibly talented opera singers. Highly recommended.
