The 48 Best Things to Do in Paris

"Did Paris need another department store? Certainly not. But this one has a legacy that laid dormant for 16 years: The 19th century landmark reopened in 2021 after a $900 million restoration by LVMH, and swapped the utilitarian focus for one decidedly more upscale. Locals used to shop here for everything from light bulbs and garden supplies to dresses, but now it's a gallery of sorts for designer clothes, beauty brands, and a handful of food and Champagne concept spaces throughout the shop. It's also an Art Deco and Art Nouveau wonder, which is the primary reason to visit. Approximately 215,000 square feet are devoted to retail space in this complex, which includes the Cheval Blanc hotel, office space, and housing, making it the smallest of the city’s department stores (the others are Le Bon Marché, Printemps, and Galeries Lafayette). The spaces it does occupy covers the usual terrain: streetwear and luxury ready-to-wear which includes pieces exclusive to La Samaritaine, clean beauty and classic perfumers, handbags and fine jewelry, and several rooms used for rotating thematic installations." - Melissa Liebling-Goldberg, Julia Eskins

Very impressive luxury shopping mall. The architecture is brilliant and impeccable. There are various luxury brands you can find here. The store is spacious and Instagramable.

From an architectural viewpoint, the interior of this building is beautiful and definitely worth a visit to view from the top floor. It is very much a brand department store (reminded of the AbFab line “names, sweetie darling, names”!) - and wouldn’t dream of shopping here at the prices on offer. And the menu for a coffee on the top floor is eye-watering. But it costs nothing to take a trip to the top and it is definitely worth it. And, yes, bags will be politely checked - totally understandable for good security.

All tourists shop at Galeries Lafayette and it’s super crowded, I prefer to shop at the reviving Samaritaine near Louvre where you can still find almost anything here at your own pace in serenity. Visit my page for more travel tips and reviews: @journeyjournal_skinaltitudes

Amazing architecture! Very pretty departmental store with very premium and luxurious brand. Kinda looks like the new malls in Tokyo.

Amazing intervention, they respect the art nouveau style of the original building but also make contemporary elements. Shoping mall focus on luxury but you can visit the building. Venden cosas mamalonas pero se puede visitar sin que te la hagan de a pedo

I found shopping here an absolute joy, the staff was so friendly and helpful, I shopped in the beauty, accessories (handbags) and the gift shop at the front of the store. I went up to the top floor for a glass of wine and some cake, when I arrived all the tables were busy and I said that I would be happy to sit at the bar, I was told that they donot serve at the bar and I jokingly said "are the bar stolls just for styling?". I waited a little while and then I was taken to a seat at the bar and told another lady had made the decision. I had a coupel of drinks and cake and read my book, the waiting staff was so happy and pleasant when serving me, it was a really nice place to be. I would definitely visit again when I am next in Paris.

I had an amazing dining experience thanks to our waiter, Martine. She was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. Every recommendation she made was spot on, and she made us feel truly welcomed. Her professionalism and genuine care for our experience set a high standard. I’d definitely come back and recommend this place to others because of her excellent service!
