I know there are greater tragedies happening around this god-forsaken part of the world, but I can't help but mourn the passing of the great Humus restaurants in Israel. There were at least two great ones in Abu-Gosh, and several in Ramla - all of them for several years now a pathetic husk, a sad reminder of their former glory. Long story short: Samir still serves fantastic Humus (and some very nice chicken dishes) at a very reasonable price and a cool atmosphere. Said atmosphere is helped both by the Mamluk-era building and by the slightly abrasive, Anthony- Bourdain-meets-Don-Rickles personality of the owner (definitely a plus in my book). A great overall experience.
