Samosir Cottages

For a three-star hotel, this is quite satisfactory. The price I got was quite affordable compared to what was listed on Google because I booked it well in advance. I think this hotel is quite unique because it's located in the mountains. Once you arrive, the lobby is on the third floor, and you can use the elevator or stairs to get to the second and first floors. There are many photo spots at this hotel, all of which are great because it's right on Lake Toba.

This hotel have a beautiful view of Toba Lake. Last time I stayed at room number 82. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Sadly the hot water not functioning well in this room. Breakfast quite varied, sadly no milk. Overall, decent place to stay in Samosir with your friends or family. Last stay at: 3 September 2025.

Room had good size, but very poor water pressure. Bed have stains. Breakfast menu just nice & simple. But the view was amazing.

Rooms were not that pleasant, smelly toilets and water pressure at shower was very low and beds were not that comfortable. Breakfast was mostly local food which was acceptable. Location was beautiful with great view of the stunning lake.

We stayed at Samosir Cottages Resort from July 11–13, 2025, and it was one of the most uncomfortable hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Every night was disrupted by loud karaoke and music that continued until late, and mornings started with blaring exercise music as early as 7 a.m. – rest was impossible. The room (119) had a strong sewer smell from the bathroom that lingered all day, making it feel unhealthy and unpleasant. To make matters worse, people were cleaning and cutting seafood right outside the room 123 and 124, and the fishy smell filled the air for hours. Cooking with gas stoves in front of guest rooms added to the discomfort, and despite complaints, the hotel staff did nothing to stop it. The so-called “suite” room (122) was dirty, poorly maintained, and had broken fixtures that made the stay feel unsafe. There was no system or control in place – the environment felt chaotic, and I did not feel safe or relaxed at any point. The noise was unbearable, and the hotel itself contributed to it by blasting music until late at night. This resort is absolutely not suitable for anyone seeking peace, cleanliness, or basic hospitality. I strongly advise travelers – especially those with families or international guests – to avoid this place at all costs.

Extremely disappointing experience — not worth the stay Stayed in what was describe as "suites room"(122): The room was dirty and poorly maintained, with stained surfaces, a dangerously broken bathroom door, and a damaged washbasin that made us feel constantly on edge. Despite being told it was renovated three years ago, it clearly needs urgent repairs. Loud music echoed until 1 a.m. and resumed again around 7 a.m., making sleep nearly impossible. This hotel is simply not suitable for anyone hoping to enjoy the tranquility of Lake Toba. To make matters worse, when we raised our concerns with the manager, we were told there was nothing he could do. For international travelers looking for a pleasant stay, this place is absolutely not recommendable. Please avoid this hotel at all cost.

Great experience overall ! Stayed here for 2 nights. Room was clean & spacious for 3 of us & food was satisfying. The staff also helpful & friendly.

Leaky hallway, it floods when pouring rain. This is a first time I heard such rule in a hotel: customers must leave their keys in order for room services to clean the room. You should remind the customers if that is your rule. Hair dryer available by request on the front desk. Phone available in the hallway, not in the room.
