Samosir Cottages

We stayed at Samosir Cottages Resort from July 11–13, 2025, and it was one of the most uncomfortable hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Every night was disrupted by loud karaoke and music that continued until late, and mornings started with blaring exercise music as early as 7 a.m. – rest was impossible. The room (119) had a strong sewer smell from the bathroom that lingered all day, making it feel unhealthy and unpleasant. To make matters worse, people were cleaning and cutting seafood right outside the room 123 and 124, and the fishy smell filled the air for hours. Cooking with gas stoves in front of guest rooms added to the discomfort, and despite complaints, the hotel staff did nothing to stop it. The so-called “suite” room (122) was dirty, poorly maintained, and had broken fixtures that made the stay feel unsafe. There was no system or control in place – the environment felt chaotic, and I did not feel safe or relaxed at any point. The noise was unbearable, and the hotel itself contributed to it by blasting music until late at night. This resort is absolutely not suitable for anyone seeking peace, cleanliness, or basic hospitality. I strongly advise travelers – especially those with families or international guests – to avoid this place at all costs.

Extremely disappointing experience — not worth the stay Stayed in what was describe as "suites room"(122): The room was dirty and poorly maintained, with stained surfaces, a dangerously broken bathroom door, and a damaged washbasin that made us feel constantly on edge. Despite being told it was renovated three years ago, it clearly needs urgent repairs. Loud music echoed until 1 a.m. and resumed again around 7 a.m., making sleep nearly impossible. This hotel is simply not suitable for anyone hoping to enjoy the tranquility of Lake Toba. To make matters worse, when we raised our concerns with the manager, we were told there was nothing he could do. For international travelers looking for a pleasant stay, this place is absolutely not recommendable. Please avoid this hotel at all cost.

Great experience overall ! Stayed here for 2 nights. Room was clean & spacious for 3 of us & food was satisfying. The staff also helpful & friendly.

If you wish to get a good sleep, please don’t choose this resort!! Please don’t!! Because you will be disturbed by noises till 3am. (eg: people singing or laughing hardly in swimming area)

Big room with nice view, breakfast included. Have some inconvenient smell inside bathroom. Please provide wifi password and phone directory inside room. lift only can be used with access card but not relevant because outsider can access the stair easily. Have to request for an iron 2 times, then get it still warm. There some people hangout, chatting and cook in front of the room

This estate looks great on the outside. And only outside, that’s it. Most disappointing hotel in my Medan/Lake Tina 4 Night Trip. Swimming pool is so dirty ( see video below) and rooms are so old and smelly. I had to flush out a gigantic millipede down the shower hole. Seriously don’t introduce this to Malaysia and Singapore middle class market. They sure make noise.

The hotel service is average, nothing special. Some of the staffs are friendly, but others are not. I booked family room but still I have to pay extra money for adding family member to the room so why they call it family room if the charge additional cash for adding guest? Strange policy.

Well well well, I had to lower the rate to 2 stars after staying for 2 days. If I were to stay longer, I might need to rate it 1 star. Overall, I just don’t quite like the room we stayed in. It’s room 154, just behind the parking lot so it’s quite noisy. The room is not clean with small red ants on the bed. I even saw a small insect under the bed sheets and oh boy I advice you not to open the bed sheet to see the mattress protector, you might not want to sleep on it that night after seeing the stains :( it happened to me. I think they did not change or wash the quilt cover or the bed sheet properly. There are stains with many colors, black, grey, blue, brown, you name it you’ll see it. The wall is surprisingly thin, I could hear the next door talking and the sound from their TV as a background noise the whole night. The door chain lock is broken, I called the front office to get it repaired but nothing was done. The shower drainage was a bit clogged you’ll definitely can experience to shower in a puddle of water. Niceee (sarcasm). Free internet, but it’s slow like a dial-up. House keeping just make up the bed, change towel and top up water, they don’t change the bed sheet, don’t clean the rubbish bin, don’t clean toilet. Their towel is also worn off quite badly I can see loose threads. Come on, I don’t think it worth 1,3 million rupiah/night. Definitely there are many other better hotel nearby. The staffs quite friendly, and location is good. Maybe that’s the only positive thing about this hotel. Maybe it was a good hotel last time, maybe our room was bad. But I think they need to improve their cleanliness.
