This review is based solely on an interaction I had with one of Samuel's employees in line at the Rhinebeck Post Office on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The clerk at the post office asked me to complete some addresses on a box I was shipping, so I stepped aside and did as I was asked. When I stepped back to the line, a thin young woman in her twenties with a short black haircut and glasses stood at the head of the line. I asked her if she'd permit me to return in line, and she said, "All the way to the end of the line, mister!" with a mix of anger and joy in her voice. The kind gentleman in line behind her allowed me to reenter the line in front of him. When this young woman was helped by the post office clerk, she identified the six boxes she carried as the being from Samuel's Sweet Shop. It is sad to see a young person who lacks consideration for others, but in Rhinebeck, it's my experience that it's almost unheard of; I've found the vast majority of young people here in Rhinebeck to be respectful, courteous, and kind. One would think this young woman would be mindful that she is representing not just herself (however unmannered she may be) but that she also serves as an ambassador for Samuel's. I have not only patronized Samuel's in the past, but also have brought numerous out of town guests there. Sadly, I will no longer be doing this. Any good feelings I had for Samuel's evaporated when this thoughtless young woman proved herself to be an unworthy member of the Rhinebeck community. Paul, if you value the shop's reputation, reevaluate her employment.
