BVOCAL4LOCAL(c) Love. Love. LOVE this place. Hank is so helpful and informative. Full disclosure, I hadn't been back to the Blue Star in some time. My friend suggested it and I was excited to visit wonderful memories. As we're coming around a corner, I was so excited to see this place was still there. I remembered going to the Blue Star when they first started first Fridays back in the 80s. This was my favorite place then. This is my favorite place now. I love folk art with a passion. There are a multitude of items, art really, from Mexico and several other Latin American countries. You will also find multiple items from local artists. I love seeing local supporting local. The guayabera shirts are incredible. Great vintage cuts and funky patterns. These are not your abuelos guayaberas! Please ask Hank about this project with the shirts. It's incredible. Another case of helping others. I went back and forth around this place at least three times and I'm sure I still haven't seen everything. Small or large- There are so many things that you will want. Fun/ funky things. Art pieces. Statues paintings. Jewelry. The list goes on and on. Make this a place to bring your out of town guests. Make this a place to shop for your friends, your family, yourself!

Love, love, LOVE! Wandered into this place while visiting from Dallas and I’m so glad we did. Everything in the shop was beautiful and I could have bought it all. Hank, the owner is absolutely wonderful, we loved him immediately. We spent a while chatting and he gave us some great recommendations for the area, and after we left we ran into him while he was walking his dog on the riverwalk and chatted some more. Can’t recommend him or this shop enough. If you’re looking for some original art, look no further.

Such a cool shop! Did not expect to find such a cool vintage shirt from Haiti. Want to go back when they get more of their shirts made from vintage kimonos. The man working there was beyond helpful.

I was so excited to stumble upon this store when exploring San Antonio. They have a delightful collection of art and trinkets and we had a great chat with the women running the shop. Would recommend a visit here!

Yelp
Cool collection of local folk art! It combines a weird and eclectic swath of Texas and Mexican art. There's all kinds of strange stuff that would look great on your mantle or hanging from your wall. Most of the stuff in here in imported from Mexico, or made by artists here in Texas. Everything in here is for sale, and the prices are negotiable if you buy in volume. The whole place is filled with art, floor to ceiling, and you can spend a good long time in here looking around everything there is to see. It's a great place to check out on First Friday.

Yelp
This is a fun place to spend some time if you are ever at the Blue Star Art Complex. The store is also a gallery and I guarantee that you will find something of interest in this eclectic arrangement of art objects and other curiosities. The owner of this establishment is a wonderful person. I have been here a few times and he is very pleasant. He is always very courteous and has a charming disposition. He is obviously intelligent -- very knowledgeable about the items in his store. This is helpful. If you have questions you will get answers, not some retail BS that other establishments give you. I hope that San Angel is around for a long time. San Antonio needs more places like this.

Yelp
Randy is terrific. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Great collection of hard to find Mexican artesanias. Best in San Antonio.

Yelp
San Angel is a cool little gallery and folk art store that is well worth a look around if you're at the Blue Star Arts Complex! Sculptures, paintings, clothes, books, etc. Definitely some interesting work and merchandise!

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. There is so much to see in here. The floors and walls are filled to the max with art work and everything is on sale. Some of the art is so intricate that you can spend a long time just looking at one piece. Everything is local too so if you see something it's a great local support. It's a bit overwhelming but it's definitely worth taking a look at. The hours are a little weird so call ahead before you go down there. I went on a whim one day and they were the only gallery open other then Blue Star.

Yelp
So much fun! Not sure how I managed to pass by this gallery/shop over all the years. I probably assumed it was too expensive. Sure, there are some intricate and expensive pieces, but there are affordable pieces, too. And even if there weren't, there's just so much to SEE. Everything in here makes me so happy. I laughed A LOT and left with a few small items for gifts (that I'll probably end up keeping).

Yelp
interesting art but was disappointed that i wasn't allowed to take pictures inside the place. i would've liked to hear the story of what happened but the gentleman in there that day was a little too absorbed in something else. the shop has a good number of pieces from what looked like a bunch of different artists, i would have spent a little more time there if i felt more welcome.

Yelp
This place is wonderful! I just moved to SA and had the longest nicest chat with the owner. He's a great guy with a great shop. His pieces are one of kind and really unique. I bought three Mexican tiles from him that I can't wait to put up in my house!! -Angie Adams

Yelp
As a cultural anthropologist, i always try to seek out culturally singificant places, and San Angel is one of the greatest galleries I have ever found. I came accross the web site years ago and put it on my places to visit in the future. The gallery has been in business for almost three decades and is a wealth of knowdege, generosity and goodwill. The owners and staff are so concerned about the artist and creating sustainablity progects that it, in turn, has some of the finest work I have ever seen, and they are so happy to talk about the work and the artist on so many levels that I always feel like I had a very special day when I have visited San Angel. So I would say if you are interested in art, folk art, outsider art or ethnicgrafic work, you should put them on your list. to spend some time there and go ahead and visit the entire arts complex while you are there.

Yelp
I really enjoy this store. It is so unique and spotlights Latin American artists. I have visited this store several times and they always have new and fun items. Many of the artists have a close relationship with this gallery which is really nice to know. Dynamic place to see and visit for Latin American culture.
