We visited the San Antonio River Walk after celebrating the graduation of a new airman at Lackland Air Force Base, and it was the perfect way to spend the day. The walk is beautiful and vibrant, with lots of places to sit, eat, and enjoy the atmosphere. The food is hit or miss depending on the restaurant, but people are friendly and welcoming everywhere. We also did the river tour, which is definitely worth it. A great place to relax and take in the city!

Google
Such a gorgeous place! We had such a magical walk. There are endless shopping and dining options. The path was extremely crowded but it is kept very clean. Definitely kid friendly but the path gets very tight in some spots and extremely close to the water so I would recommend keeping a very close eye on them.

Visiting the San Antonio River Walk was truly magical—it’s one of the most scenic places in Texas! Walking along the river, we were surrounded by stunning greenery, with all kinds of plants, trees, and charming bridges adding to the beauty. We took a taxi boat for a tour, which made the experience even more special, allowing us to take in the incredible sights from the water. The restaurants along the river had an amazing vibe and atmosphere, with friendly people and great food to complete the experience. If you're ever in San Antonio, this place is **definitely** worth seeing! The perfect mix of nature, culture, and relaxation.

The San Antonio Riverwalk is a beautiful and peaceful escape in the heart of the city. What stands out most is how clean and well-maintained the entire area is—everything feels thoughtfully cared for. The atmosphere is calm and inviting, with respectful visitors and a relaxing vibe that makes it easy to unwind. The scenic walkways, charming bridges, and riverside restaurants create an unforgettable ambiance. It’s truly a place you shouldn’t miss in your lifetime.

Google
Such a wonderful place ever. Had a great time here. It's such a romantic place to be. A Riverwalk with lots of shops, a lot of restaurants and boat tours. It's more beautiful during the evening and night time with live music and lights all over.

Summer on the River Walk. A few days in San Antone spent at the Grand Hyatt along the River Walk gave us the chance to stroll along the river and take in the restaurants and shops. Family friendly, clean and safe the River Walk wasn't very crowded. We easily strolled along the river and even at peak dinner time the wait to get into the restaurants was minimal.

Google
Such a pleasant way to spend a few hours - day or night. We went to San Antonio for a family vacation (6 adults) and we all enjoyed the River Walk. It was actually my favorite thing we did! I would love to go back at Christmas time.

Maya Robinson

Google
The River Walk was absolutely incredible. San Antonio has a beautiful gem, and it is so worth the drive during the Christmas season. The lights are beautiful. It gets really busy, so know that! The walkways get crowded. However, the environment is nice, and you can actually get malt vinegar with your fries at the British Pub.

Yelp
Shiver me timbers! I'm shaking at how radical and awesome this place is! It defientley was well worth the wait and when I finally came I had a blast. Scenery is beautiful, the boats and the water and all the other decor make great photo opportunities-or they're just pretty to look at! It felt real magical, and the river walk is also pretty big! You could even walk up stairs. There are also tasty food restraunts and cute little shops to look at. I had a delicious night with Ben and Jerry's and Paesanos on the riverwalk. I just love Riverwalk, this is a must-come!

Yelp
The San Antonio River Walk is a beautiful and vibrant spot that's perfect for a leisurely stroll, dining, or just soaking in the atmosphere. The pathways along the river are lined with great restaurants, bars, and shops, making it an ideal place to explore day or night. The scenery is gorgeous, with charming bridges, lush greenery, and colorful lights in the evening. Whether you're grabbing a drink, taking a boat tour, or just people-watching, the River Walk has something for everyone. A must-visit if you're in San Antonio! Relaxing, fun, and full of character.

Yelp
Came here for my wife's BD weekend trip! Twas a first time visiting around this area so it was quite amusing to me that the river flowing through the city!! Bunch of restaurants, hotels, gift shops and sweet shops like icecream and drink places are there! Quite convenient as you can walk out straight to the river walk! Day time walk was fun but night time view was also beautiful! We got to try on the boat ($15 per person) at night time and it was a good experience! :) If you are around San Antonio! A should come here and enjoy some times! We had a good time indeed! Cheers

Yelp
A must visit when in San Antonio! The San Antonio River Walk is a beautiful area with plenty of shopping, restaurants and things to see as you walk along the river. Our hotel was on the river walk and every day we enjoyed strolling along, people watching and learning about the history of this region. We took a boat tour that gave us even more information about the history and previous floods. Great value and plenty of sites to see within walking distance. The ambiance reminded us of living near the Amsterdam canals and watching boats and people go by. Beautiful area and when we visit again, will stay on or near the river walk again.

Yelp
A nice place to hike early in the morning before the crowds arrive. Walking paths are quite narrow in many spots. Beware of slipping with light rain or intense humidity, which is the norm in spring and summer in southern Texas. Give yourself 2 hours if you want to walk the entire circuit and read the majority of the historical plaques. Star knock for unclaimed.

Yelp
Did you really go to San Antonio if you did not stop by the River Walk? A fun tourist location. This concept should be adapted by more cities! It is very shaded throughout the riverwalk due to being lower than street level and all the vegetation. It seems like a good place to hang out on a hot day because of this! One thing awesome about the riverwalk is it is close to lots of other touristy things such as the Alamo, Ripley's Believe it or not, and the Western Art Musuem are some examples. Definitely a fun place to come at nighttime. They've got lots of bars on the river walk, many having live music. I do wish they had some shops on the riverwalk. The water seems pretty dirty, it's a good thing no one swims in it! If you are in a wheelchair this place may be tough to maneuver since it has a lot of bridges with steps instead of ramps.
google avatar

Tabitha D.

Yelp
Everyone that visits San Antonio must visit the Riverwalk. Lots of shops, restaurants, bars, activities, and just plenty to do. I always feel safe and always return when I get people from out of town visiting me. Purchased river boat tour tickets and enjoyed that as well. Highly recommended for some fun facts and history about San Antonio.

Yelp
The San Antonio Riverwalk has continued to get better and better since I moved here in the mid 90s. It can be fun, relaxing, educational, and inspiring. There are many miles to choose from, starting at the Pearl where it's hip & trendy, downtown where there are great bars and restaurants, down to the southern missions where it's historical and great for running or biking. If you're lucky enough to be around during a river parade, you've got to check it out! Plus, it's free! You should never pass up the riverwalk when you're in SA, even if it's just for a photo op!
google avatar

Yelp
The River Walk is amazing, even during the winter. One can hardly imagine the beautiful nature scape that lies below street level as a vein throughout downtown San Antonio. I spent hours just walking up and down the River Walk and had such a great time.
google avatar

Vy T.

Yelp
Would recommend visiting or staying on the River Walk if you can. It's a beautiful area with a variety of restaurants, shops, and honestly, it's ideal for a morning or evening stroll. There are boats that go up and down the river for tourists who want to learn more about the area as well. The area is particularly nice in December with all of the Christmas lights up and other decorations.
google avatar

Hemesh P.

Yelp
Unique and interesting place Be careful because it can get easy to get lost here Lots of tourists so it can get crowded and the food seems to be catered more to tourists
google avatar

Laurie Ann L.

Yelp
If anyone is going to San Antonio over the holidays, you've got to check out the San Antonio Riverwalk! It is so much fun just to walk up and down the Riverwalk and see all the beautiful decorations for Christmas. We have enjoyed every restaurant along the Riverwalk although they can be a little pricey. The best part is taking the boat ride. They have barges that go up and down the water and it is just beautiful! There are lights strung over the river and it just seems like a winter wonderland. There is a stage along the Riverwalk and you can look at the schedule for who is performing on any given day. This is definitely an outing for the entire family!

Yelp
The San Antonio River Walk is the most iconic park in the entire city and if you haven't visited in some time do yourself a favor and come downtown! Every tourist that comes to San Antonio has to visit the river walk, but did you know this amazing destination is not just the touristy area everyone goes to? The river has been extended during the last few years north and south. The northern area which is a little bit more populated extends towards The Pearl and is a wonderful walk that connects you to other spots like the San Antonio Museum of Art. However, my favorite area of the river walk is in southtown. If you park the Blue Star and walk towards downtown, you'll get to explore the beautiful homes of King William while enjoy of nature and the wild life we have in this side of town. The river walk is a great place to take family and friends, and I am so thankful for the city and the work they've been putting to maintain it.

Yelp
This is my second time visit the river walk. This time we visit during the night time. Parking always a challenge due to high cost. There is Houston Garage has a Tuesday special. We walk from Navarro Street north of river walk to south of same street river walk. It is a distance. However, this is a popular area with restaurants and live music. Especially the section west Crockett street. This is the area also connected to the Alamo. The visit can take you 2 hours to complete. You also can enjoy the tradition river cruise. During the festival, the river amphitheater has live show.

Yelp
Spent the day at the famous River Walk in San Antonio on Sunday. Lots of history here. If you haven't been, please go. Such a wonderful place come and spend a whole day. It is a lot of walking, and mostly flat, there are stairs that you need to climb to walk over a bridge to go to the other side of the river. The river is 15 miles. There are certain areas that are just the restaurants and shops. And there are areas of just sight seeing. There are maps along the way to help guide you. We just walked to see what we would run into. There is a walk up bar, and yes, you can walk around with a drink in hand. There is a boat ride you can take, as a historic guided tour. There is a fee for this boat ride, and they do offer military discounts. Some take away tips. Comfortable shoes and bring water and a hand fan for the summer months. It's 3 flames hot and humid. Also, not a lot of public bathrooms. You have to go to a restaurant to use the bathroom.

Yelp
What a cute place to walk around! It was my first time in San Antonio, and the riverwalk was on my list of places to visit. I came in the daytime and again at night. I enjoyed it more early in the day since there were fewer people, and it was easier to walk around. But nighttime was fun, seeing all the lights on and all the restaurants booming. I definitely will be back if I am in town again.

Yelp
The River Walk was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting something like Chicago's River Walk (a river-adjacent, restaurant-adorned sidewalk), but the unexpected intimacy made it feel more like a city park with theme park aesthetics. Being steps away from The Alamo makes this an ideal place to visit, though, I would only stay in this bar-heavy restaurant district if I was with a group of gluttonous and pub-crawl friendly friends or family intent on gorging and imbibing all day, waiting patiently for unruly kids to get Glooped and fall into the unobstructed river.
google avatar

Stacy P.

Yelp
Best part of San Antonio is the river walk. Must see and do. Lots of places to make "pit stops" for drinks and food. 15 miles of history and cool things to see and do.
google avatar

Yelp
Of course a must see in San Antonio! We really enjoyed Fiume Pizza, County Line barbecue, and seafood at Bubba Gump Shrimp. And the river tour of course!
google avatar

Yelp
This is obviously one of the main tourist attractions in San Antonio. The riverwalk was stunning and full of life. They seem to take care of the area and I didn't find it to be too dirty or littered (admittedly we did not walk the entire walk though so maybe it gets dirtier outside of the populated areas). There are large amounts of restaurants and bars to stop at as well as shopping for souvenirs. There is also ample seating by the riverwalk itself with benches all around. They have a stage where you can watch dancing and a mall right off the walkway. There are signs to major tourist attractions on the riverwalk, so you can walk there to get to everything instead of walking above the riverwalk. Overall, the riverwalk was very nice and one of the best parts about San Antonio.

Yelp
SAN ANTONIO, TX: the San Antonio River Walk is a spectacular mix of shopping, dining, entertainment, events, all happening along the San Antonio River. The area is free to enter and covers a stretch of over 15 miles with a chunk of it meandering through downtown San Antonio. Leashed dogs are allowed and many of the outdoor restaurants welcome dogs on their patios while you dine and some shops will let you inside. We visited during their Holiday Lights on the River Walk event which happens every year between the end of November and early January. Over 2,000 string lights dangle from the trees creating a magical moment. It can get very crowded and packed tightly with people, so use caution.

Yelp
The Riverwalk is a great place to lose yourself in the middle of the city. Both literally and figuratively. Lots to do along the walk and grants you access to a lot of things nearby. However, if you don't know your way around, you will probably end up like me, walking in circles. I stopped at many restaurants and shops along the walk and found that no matter how many times I walked the walk, I couldn't hit them all. It is a vibrant area to be during both the daytime and nighttime. Nighttime it is truly beautiful with how the walkway is lit up. There is live music coming from every angle, some places having some stand up shows, and the smells from the restaurants are all attempting to draw you in. However, if you are not paying attention, you will end up walking in the wrong direction. I did this one and ended up in a totally different part of town and had to turn around and make my way back. My god, was that a long walk. Be mindful of your surroundings. Parts of the walkway have no railings and if you do not watch where you are walking, you might be taking a dip.

Yelp
The San Antonio River Walk is known to Koreans as the role model for Cheonggyecheon in Seoul, Korea. It is a famous tourist destination not only for Koreans but also for people from all over the world. There are restaurants and hotels along the river, and the landscaping around the river is beautiful, giving off the feeling of a resort. One thing that was disappointing was that the river water was too dirty. In particular, the river at the Shops at Rivercenter shopping mall in downtown San Antonio, the starting point of the River Walk tour, was covered in green algae like Macha Latte, which was a shame for such a beautiful tourist destination.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Some nicer parts of the River Walk, where the restaurants and hotels are located. Some of the pedestrian bridges aren't aesthetically pleasing to be honest, chains and odd setups. A couple of bridges where you have to go up the bridge and back down the other side, which tends ti disrupt the flow of the River walk some. It's still a nice walk either way.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Love it! Restaurants, bars, shops on the river. Lots of history there. I would go back to try the restaurants. Did the river tour which was great... was able to restaurant my feet. Went to mad dogs Irish pub, got some blue bell ice cream and got some souvenirs.

Delaney M.

Yelp
This is the best part of San Antonio. We loved the shops and vendors along the river. The restaurants and bars along the river are so much fun as well. Beautiful!

Yelp
Last visited: Dec' 23, two days after X-Mas. The River Walk is like a waking dream, it is well architected and designed I will have to say. Especially if you visit around Christmas time. The lights and backlighting around the overhanging trees is simply a sight to behold. Well done. The sheer amount of choice of restaurants and venues around the Rivercenter, is simply unbelievable. I did not walk the whole of the board walk to see all the shops as I ran out of time, but what impressed me is how many shops they have here, of so many different types of food, ice cream, and other stuff for sale. However. There are a few points that prohibit this from being a five-star experience. - The people and rather passerby here are unkind to me and to others in general. They are too wrapped up in their world to care about anyone else. Also, they will not look directly at some people (me), which is rather infuriating to be frank. - At the time we came, around 9pm, most shops were closing and quoted a wait time of over an hour, sometimes an hour and half of wait. We had to choose one restaurant which had a reasonable wait time, but it is unfortunate that we were limited in selection of place to eat dinner at, so am rating down for the minus in experience. All in all, there are a remarkable amount of selection in shops at the river center or rather river walk area in San Antonio (SA/TX), however oft times shops are busy and the selection will actually be severely limited. Also, the people here are unkind to others and need to loosen up. I'm actually rating this spot down, as the passerby and other folk annoyed me sufficiently with their blatant disrespect and averted gazes. Like I said, loosen up, it's not the end of the world as we know it, at least not yet. In short, the San Antonio (SA) river walk is a sublime experience but it's marred almost entirely by the indifference and uncaring attitude of folks and passerby here. Fix the general attitude, and the solution is easily within reach. Good day.

Yelp
Great around Christmas, all lit up and pretty but some homeless in areas. Can get on or off as you please via stairs. Must do in San Antonio.
google avatar

Anton F.

Yelp
I had the chance to take an morning stroll along the River Walk to start the day. Below the main road, the pedestrian walk way is lined with bridges, shops, restaurants and awesome natural scenic views. There are touring barges available on the winding river flow that provides points of focus and history. Definitely put on the list of Things To Do while in San Antonio.
google avatar

Yelp
The San Antonio Riverwalk is absolutely gorgeous, with miles and miles of interesting things to see in the heart of downtown San Antonio. I did a walking tour and discovered so many neat pieces of information about the Riverwalk.. It has restaurants, shops, theaters, riverboats, lots of hotels and bars. It's full of life and a great way to get some exercise while exploring. I have to say it's very well-maintained with beautiful trees and flowers along with a healthy selection of various ducks in the water. There are 36 different sets of steps and elevators enabling you to go up and down to the Riverwalk from various parts of downtown San Antonio. Ideal for those with prams, or wheelchairs. They certainly have thought of everything and make the experience a pleasure for all. Many cities throughout the country could learn from this beautifully landscaped area of San Antonio. of course the whole experience is free which adds to the whole pleasure of it all.
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
I only came here once but I loved how picturesque the riverwalk was and how much history was behind it. You can Google it, it's a good read if you're interested. It's free to enter. For parking, they have parking meters and free parking in city-run parking garages. The riverwalk has boat tours, boat taxis, and dinner cruises at extra costs. Along the riverwalk, you'll find hotels, restaurants, snacks, shops, bars, etc. I would not mind going back to explore a bit more. I had some Mexican cuisine here. Food was good and having the view while you eat is priceless.

Yelp
Strolling the Pearl and Riverwalk areas just feeling grateful for being a healthy human being alive on breathing on this earth. Another beautiful day in military city USA!!

Yelp
Come to the Riverwalk to enjoy some relaxing time with some good food and drinks. The Riverwalk is quite long , definitely beautiful to walk along the river, and enjoy the nature around. The restaurants and local boutique shops are the nice additions to the side of the Riverwalk .
google avatar

Yelp
Such a beautiful place. Some parts of riverwalk are peaceful and relaxing and other parts are lively and energetic. There are so many restaurants, bars and shops. I would definitely recommend doing the boat tour. It gives you a lot of cool info on the spots of Riverwalk and san antonio

Yelp
Came from out of state. So much fun! Went on the boat ride with family. Super informative and had great views. Amazing service. Totally worth it

Yelp
We were disappointed. More joggers & walkers on the path. The Pearl, which we walked was our highlight we enjoyed the market, restaurants & shopping. Some sections were shady, only on the weekend there was music.
google avatar

Kiah R.

Yelp
Riverwalk is a good place to always come and visit when you're in San Antonio. It is pretty and there is a lot to shop, see, eat and drink here. It is very touristy but as a tourist I enjoy coming here. At night it is nice and lit up and is beautiful.

Yelp
San Antonio's River Walk is a superlative example that has few equals in the world. It succeeds on so many levels, integrating history, culture, amenities, practicality and function into a truly amazing experience and a valuable asset for the city's residents. Many cities have a river walk area but have more of a "Disney" feel to them and lack the authenticity and soul of the San Antonio River Walk. It is not to be missed on a visit to the area, especially during the holiday season so you can see the beautiful lights on a boat tour. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Such a beautiful space, and a nice casual walk around the river walk with plenty of restaurants to stop in and grab some delicious bites! Lots of drink options with the frozen daiquiris along the river walk. I always enjoy coming to the river walk in San Antonio.
google avatar

Denise D.

Yelp
Isn't this one of the reasons you would go to SA? And if not, you're missing out. It's fun, interesting, boring, and over priced all wrapped up into one. We didn't ride the river walk boats, just couldn't justify the price but they were definitely busy and I'm sure the narrators gave interesting facts. I'm not really sure why I liked it so much, i guess the place gave off good vibes and everyone is friendly. I will go back again. The ONE thing I found eery were the black birds, they are everywhere and give off the loudest strangest noise. They would just fly tree to tree in huge flocks but that in itself is something unique about this place. Go and have a great time!

Yelp
We got to experience the San Antonio River Walk during the very last Friday in April, during the same stretch of days as the annual Fiesta event :) ! Initially, we were going to attend Fiesta. But all of a sudden, it rained really heavily :( ! However, much to our relief, the rain cleared. Because we had already turned back to the direction of the River Walk, we headed that way instead. The River Walk is really picturesque and scenic in the evening :) ! It is really relaxing, with people and even pets strolling up and down. We took the famous boat tour, which was a lot of fun :D ! Because it was already evening, we got to see the vibrant bright lights and hear the live music play during our ride :) ! Our tour guide was really nice, knowledgeable and informative as well :) !

Yelp
Stroll, shop, dine, lounge on the Riverwalk I can't believe that it has been over five years since we held our Yelp Spring Break here in San Antonio (May 2017). That was my first time visiting the RiverWalk. This past week I had a chance to do more and enjoy the shops, food, and the stroll during both daytime and nighttime. Lots of people this week enjoying the evening at the RiverWalk. There were long lines to ride the riverboats. At Christmastime the RiverWalk becomes magical. I don't know how many lights it took to light up those towering cypress trees but it was an incredible sight of a light display. The RiverWalk Christmas holiday lights will stay on every night from dusk to dawn until January 9, 2023. What was also nice was that there was no rain in sight. We enjoyed strolling in a clear 55° night time weather. We dined at the Lone Star Cafe and had amazing views of the RiverWalk below... It was nice to be back to this Texas gem! Review #0716 updated

Yelp
absolute must! great spot to go for a walk lots of stuff going on and bunch of boats going by.

Yelp
A must see when in San Antonio. Be careful not to fall in, even if it's an accident you'll be charged $1,500. Every turn had a great view of plants, restaurants, a bridge, or something close by. It wasn't too crazy busy or hot because we went in March so it was easier to enjoy. It's definitely not designed for those with mobility or accessibility difficulties as the path is not even. However, their are spots that they can enjoy at the higher level. It's definitely worth walking around the whole Riverwalk in order to take in the whole experience and views.
google avatar

Yelp
The San Antonio River Walk is a true piece of Americana! Totally relaxing place to stroll over and over. The vibe is incredible, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. I prefer walking over taking the cruise. The cruise was really fun to do once but you really don't gain a ton perspective wise from the water.
google avatar

Garry H.

Yelp
Well, apparently I have never reviewed the Riverwalk. I've been here multiple times, and each one has been great. The good things: It's beautiful all year long LOTS of restaurants and shops to keep you busy A great place to walk and see the sights Lots of San Antonio history At Christmas, the lights are beautiful Taking one of the boat tours is fun and informative At night, all the lights make it SO festive The not so good things: In the daytime, if there is no breeze, it can be hot and humid, which means I'm sweating like a dog! When the tourist are out,(that's me and you) it can be SO crowded. Long lines and long waits at most restaurants Of course, the good and bad are both because the Riverwalk is so popular. But that won't stop us from going. In fact, I'm there right now! I'm at the Marriott RiverCenter for a water conference. If you live in Texas, you know how bad the drought is right now. It's my job to make sure you've got water to drink. Jump in your car and head for the Riverwalk. The party is waiting for YOU!

Do go on a Thursday afternoon. Don't go Saturday afternoon/ night. That being said, on a lovely Thursday afternoon, we parked easily and made our easy to the water level. We grabbed drinks for the adults as well as kids and hopped on a boat that was right next to this shop. The boat ride was cool and I recommend it (but not like worth waiting an hour for it..) beautiful area to walk around, lots of history. You have everything from the mall to escape the heat, lots of food choices and drinks all along the way.

Yelp
I loved everything about the River Walk. I had a view of it from my hotel balcony. Ate dinner two nights in a row at local restaurants. They have options for large chain restaurants as well. The River Walk was such a beautiful and relaxing environment. I highly recommend.

Yelp
STEPH JUDGEMENT: Pleasant area to walk, dine and shop. Ah, the famous River Walk. Anchored by a giant (aging) mall, it was actually much more impressive than I expected--it goes on for quite a while! We did not do the boat tour but it did look fun. Starting from the mall, we walked out to the Main Plaza and back, and then to the Henry B Gonzalez Convention center and back, a little over 2 miles, all told. Lined with many restaurants, bars, and shops, it really is the hub for night (and day) life in the area. The river may be natural, but the developed walkways are not--it almost felt like we were in a theme park at times. That said, we really enjoyed ourselves in the lively hubbub of it all.
