11 Cabins in Big Bear for the Perfect Winter Getaway

"Away from the hustle and bustle of Big Bear Boulevard sits this cabin, secluded enough that it feels like stepping into a private forest, yet still close enough to all the action Big Bear offers."

Nice drive along the winded ascent and descent while being tailgated by folks with a higher sense of urgency than me. Beautiful landscape and natural beauty not to be missed. The pull offs are frequent and provide incredible views. Trash cans needed desperately… take your rubbish with you

It's a forest that's been burned a lot so there's not much to see but the hike to the mines or the Pacific crest trail. It's been to over hunted so you'll rarely see deer or big horn sheep. A few of the lakes are nice to visit besides Jackson lake that's just a puddle with fish in it. Also inspiration point or as it's always referred to inspo is a beautiful place to visit at sunset to see all the city lights it would be better during the day if there was less smog. Finally the snowboard resorts aren't the greatest but it is a great place to learn. Unfortunately though people come up from the city and destroy the mountain in the winter by leaving their broken sleds and trash everywhere as well as causing massive traffic jams because they park on the side of the road.

Dogwood campground is very near lake Arrowhead. But it's like night and day. Dogwood is very primitive campsites but beautiful trees and privacy and quiet. Janet not only greeted us at the entrance but told us she was a campground host. Roads are a bit narrow and a little difficult backing into your site but it's well worth it to get the privacy of your campsites surrounded by trees. There are a few handicap sites. There are CLEAN showers and restrooms scattered throughout the park. Some sites have electric only and there's a dump station as you drive out of the park. There is drinking water available but none at each campsite. Huge wooden picnic table provided as well as a grilling station and a campfire well. Be sure you're allowed to have a campfire because of wildfire hazards. Always keep your dog on a short leash and within your site as there are bears and coyotes. Make sure all wheels are on the pavement. No loud noises after 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. . Rules are there for the enjoyment of all. After all are we there for the serenity and beauty & clean air of the woods? Many hiking trails available. Roads from San Bernardino are windy and some have some deep drop offs on the side so drive carefully. Stop occasionally at pullovers to enjoy the beautiful scenery & views. Be sure to gas up in the city before starting this drive.

It's a nice dry forest. Doesn't have crazy fauna if you are a botanical kinda person, but it's a great forest to visit if you are local and want to escape the heat or business from the valley.

I love this place. I was here 2 weeks ago, and it looked so different from my visit July 1021. Because of the recent rain, there is water everywhere. Rivers flowing to one of the most amazing waterfalls. There was hardly anyone there this time around. It's quite a majestic site to see.

We've been volunteering in the forest with the SBNF Adopt-a-trail program for almost 20 yrs. We LOVE it! Please join us! We adopt Holcomb creek trail 3N93. Hop in your off-road vehicle and help the forest! We work to maintain trails and stop closures!

Love this place but it sure has gone down hill over the last 3-4 years. So much trash everywhere, way too many people, the wild fires that have destroyed everything. Even the offroad trails and the once secret fishing spots are trashed and destroyed. Not to mention all the trash left over after every snowfall. Stay away during holidays, traffic and beyond horrible. So unfortunate but like I said, I love it up here. Other than that it's a nice place, the smaller communities are definitely nicer and less crowded than the bigger name towns. Lots of restaurants, night life, family fun, obviously the lakes and snow resorts, all that is a plus. Bbuuutttt still 2 stars just because this place isn't what it used to be. Getting trashier by the year.
