San Carlo Theatre

Magnificent theatre well worth a visit. We we told the history of the place. Got to see it from the second floor too and in the Royal box & large mirrored hall with beautiful chandeliers.

The theater is definitely one of the most beautiful I have ever visited. It is full of history! Everything is perfect and the tour in English is excellent, it lasts about half an hour! The ticket is very affordable, only 10e per person.

What a beautiful location to see a show. Arrive when doors first open so you can enjoy a drink, coffee, or pastry in the theater bar before the show. The music was a beautiful top off to a day in Napoli. The piece of music we listened to was Carnival of the Animals. The musicians played at once and the audience clapped so long. They came back out and played the short finale, a second time. What was wonderful is they were clearly energized by the excitement of the audience and our response and played accordingly. The second rendition was light, albeit a little messier than the first time. But everyone was having fun, including the musicians it was wonderful.

If you have the chance take the tour, it’s well explained and you get the opportunity to be in the oldest Theatre in the world, and if you have the chance to see opera or a concert, totally worth it!! I have the chance to find a ticket for Tosca by Puccini and it was absolutely fantastic

This is a review of the disappointing tour, not of the theatre itself. As someone who enjoys opera, I was excited to tour the Teatro di San Carlo. Opening in 1737, it is the oldest continuously-operating opera venue in the world, older than La Scala and La Fenice. I was unhappy with the tour, though. It was only 30 minutes long, given in both Italian and English (cutting the English portion even shorter), included a large group of people and consisted of only 2 spaces. It felt like a cash grab. I see from other pictures that groups were smaller and they were able to go up to the boxes. What gives?

The oldest continually operating opera house in the world – and absolutely worth a guided tour! The theatre is breathtaking, with its frescoed ceiling and countless elegant details. I loved learning about the mirrors in each box, designed so the King could see every guest. Another fascinating detail: there is no box number 17. Instead, it’s labeled 16 BIS, since in Italian culture 17 is considered unlucky (in Roman numerals, XVII can be rearranged as VIXI, meaning “I have lived,” a symbol of death). Simply fantastic and a must-see in Naples!

This was a fantastic tour and visit! The oldest continually operating Opera House in the world! So many interesting facts and details in the tour!! I highly recommend, especially for the price and only 30 minutes to see everything!

Guided tour is highly recommended, this is a beautiful theatre, very informative and interesting experience. Ensure you check actual hours, in December late afternoon tours were not run on weekdays.

This is a must. period. While vacationing in Rome, I took a side trip to Naples and this was one of my must see sites. I wasn't here long, at all, but husband and I dropped in early afternoon to queue and buy tickets for a tour. We enjoyed it very much. If we had more time and stayed in the area, we would've tried to catch a show, but this was the next best thing and it was great. If you have time and can't catch a show, this is the next best thing. The tour guide was passionate and told us stories about the theater. There was plenty of time to take pictures as well.

Teatro di San Carlo is one of the most beautiful opera houses in Italy. Even if you're not an opera fan, you should come for the quintessential Italian experience.

The guided tour of Europe's oldest opera house is about 45 min or so and is very interesting. Our charming guide narrated the tour in Italian and English and was able to answer additional questions from the group about this beautiful place. If you are in Naples even for a short time you will be happy you squeezed in time for this experience.

Five stars for the guided tour of the Napoli Opera House. Very informative and narrated with passion by our guide. I wish I could visit the opera during performance, but the season hadn't started yet. The guided toor alternative brings you to all the areas you would like to see, even the kings loge.
