What to do in Nicaragua? 15 Best Things to See in 2025
"I noted San Cristóbal as Nicaragua’s highest volcano at 1,745 meters (5,725 feet) and a challenging hike if you’re looking for a serious trek." - Matthew Kepnes
One of the most intense volcano hikes that I have done. But every moment of it was worth it. Once you’re up there, the views are breathtaking. If you’re into climbing then this is something for you to enjoy. Be prepared for a long hike.

Challenging (more mental than physical) but well worth it! We contacted Arturo at finca de Las rojas and he happened to be in town and was able to give us a lift there and back to the finca where we spent the night in the bunk bed room and set off at 4:30. He also gave us a walkie talkie to check in with him every 30mins and had some wood walking sticks we used...I wouldn't have made it to them without them!

It is such a Majestic place. The hike is very hard, the steep sand slopes seems to never end, but once at the tope is worth every moment.

Beautiful volcano but maybe the most difficult one I've hiked. A lot of walking on sand and small stones, so be prepared. Some trails at the last part are not well marked.

It was a big adventure in the life. When I was in the middle of the climbing I was so close to stop and not continue, but I decide to get the goal to know the crater of San Cristobal. Therefore I got spirituals energies and I got my way. I recommend it you.
