They do a great job maintaining their amenities, which is definitely a strong point for this campground. However, the tent sites are much smaller compared to other state campgrounds—you can even hear snoring from neighboring tents. Also, the quiet hours policy wasn't enforced very well, which made the nights a bit noisy. Lastly, there are a lot of birds around the site. Be prepared for early morning wake-up calls from their loud singing—and possibly some droppings on your tent.

This review is not based on the actual property, as we we unable to make it for our reservation, but this is regarding their compassion and understanding. We had a weekend trip planned for Easter weekend with our kids and were unable to make it because we had to have our dog laid to rest. I emailed them asking to cancel or change the dates due to the circumstances, but was told that I would still lose my deposit. I understand that policies exist and need to be enforced. However, I also understand humanity and compassion, and exceptions can always be made. While we were super excited for our first stay at this specific KOA, we will never give them our business again.

Stayed 3 nights, there's a chill family vibe. Mix of really good campers and amateurs and everybody looking for fun. Some loud noises at night but not too bad. Great pool, excellent kid activities and restaurants and beaches nearby made it a great vacation at an affordable price.

Wow! Place was immaculate. Grounds well kept. Staff friendly and helpful. Close to beach, San Diego Zoo, and lots of places in San Diego. Only thing I would add is bathroom facilities ie showers need updating. They were clean but old with shower heads at 5’ and curtains torn and doors didn’t lock well. However I would recommend them and plan to return.

The KOA facilities are well-maintained and definitely kid-friendly, making it a good choice for RV camping. However, it’s not ideal for tent camping. The tent sites are small and closely packed, offering little privacy and a lot of noise. The campground is located near the intersection of two highways, so traffic noise continues throughout the night. Additionally, there were a significant number of ants at the campsite.

I spoke with Rachel at the KOA in Chula Vista. We had an issue with our key situation and she went above and beyond with her devotion for her job and also her customers, putting them 1st and making sure that there was absolutely no inconvenience to us. I truly appreciate her work ethic and in my opinion a work skill that is being lost in our era. Because of her we will definitely be coming back to the KOA, customer service really does go a long way in helping out the customer. Thank you again Rachel! Also the KOA is just spectacular as well, hidden gem in the area.

Do not stay at spot 3209 unless you want bird crap all over your items and vehicles trailer ect! Spot is a biohazard and should not even be an option to be rented. Place was disgusting upon arrival. Our family could not sit outside and enjoy anything without bird crap getting dropped or worms 🐛 falling from the tree. I complained to the supervisor who then told me the manger would call me. Never received a call back from management. Horrible service. I should have been refunded. Will not be back.

First off, there are tons of RV sites here. We were put into RV pull through site 3001. If you get this site, ask for half off because it is half the size of the next smallest equivalent site. We have a 24ft RV, 30ft total with hitch. The rear bumper is lined with the road on one end and the hitch is 4ft from the road on the other. Our slide out is up against the utility box giving us only 4ft of space to the bushes next to the site. There is a picnic table, but it only fits right next to the road and not under the awning. We had to park our truck in overflow parking which was particularly inconvenient with a baby, a 5 year old, and 2 dogs. On a plus side, all the workers we encountered were very friendly. One thing to note though is that, although they have rules posted in every area, almost no one enforced them. I only observed Maddison at the jumping pillows ensuring kids were following the rules. In the pool area, it was a free for all. The adult jacuzzi is a joke. No splashing in hot subs and no water guns in hot tub, also a joke. I don’t mind kids having fun, but being respectful to others isn’t difficult. Overall, it’s a great location for doing things around San Diego. Hiking, theme parks, dog beach, and more.

Yelp
Glamping with the RV--our family's first time trying out an RV/campsite experience, and I thought it would be the perfect spot since it's down in SD. As we drove in, seeing a few homeless people under the bridge was a bit unsettling, but I figured we wouldn't need to venture out much for shopping, so it wasn't a huge deal. Well, turns out, we did need to make a walking trip to Food 4 Less. And, let's just say, that wasn't the most exciting part of the trip. The campground itself was awesome! It was great to see all the different types of camping options--tents, cabins, villas, and those gazebo things in the back. We especially loved the 24/7 showers. The pool was perfect on weekdays, but once Friday rolled around, it got super crowded. I think it would help if they had a second pool to spread people out a bit. One of my favorite features was the option to pay for firewood with free delivery and setup right to your campsite. The jumping pillows were a hit with the kids, though they got a bit too hot in the summer sun. Still, they were perfect for afternoon fun. We brought our dogs along, and the K9 play area was great for keeping them entertained. I really loved all the activities for kids, but I wasn't too thrilled that almost all the fun activities came with an additional fee. Overall, it was a really nice experience, and we'd definitely come back in the future.

Yelp
We just finished an amazing stay at San Diego KoA, and I can confidently say this is one of the best campgrounds we've ever visited! The grounds are impeccably maintained, with minimal dirt or mess, and the staff here goes above and beyond. It almost feels like they're overstaffed (in the best way possible) because you'll find them everywhere--always ready to help with a smile. Our kids were thrilled with the number of activities available, and the best part? Everything, from the activities to the gift shop items and even the snow cones, was reasonably priced--no gouging here! We did tye dye shirts, slime, legos, painting plasters, snow cones, bike rentals, etc. There was a brief issue on Saturday when the power blew due to the 96-degree heat, but we were incredibly impressed with how the situation was handled. Within 30 minutes, everything was back up and running, and an employee came door-to-door to personally check on everyone and ensure everything was restored. A special shoutout to Bobbi, the Recreation Director, who was actively involved the whole time we were there. She suggested we come back later in the month for the first weekend of their Halloween festivities, where the entire campground is decorated, and they do door-to-door trick-or-treating. We were so excited about this that we booked another stay right on the spot for three weeks from now! We cannot recommend enough --whether you're here with family or just looking to relax, you won't be disappointed. We're already counting down the days until our return!

Yelp
KOA San Diego is nestled between two cities National City and Chula Vista. For many years I've been driving by this place and never knew what a great hidden place was just a few minutes from our house. We were invited to stay over the weekend for a birthday celebration. We initially decided to reserve a tent site, but as the days came closer to "camp" we decided to change our plans and get a cabin that came up last minute on the KOA site. We are not campers so it was nice to know that we can still be part of the festivities and not worry about bringing much. Our newly deluxe cabin with patio was amazing. Perfect size for our family. It had a king bed downstairs and a queen bed and two full beds in the loft upstairs. AC, with a full kitchen and a dinning table. Talk about a staycation in San Diego. Our kids had a blast riding their bikes around the property and going to the underground trampoline or the playground. There's a whole schedule for the week full of activities for the family. Friendship bracelet making, bingo night, decorate your own pillowcase, and many more activities. It's endless fun. The best part was the huge pool. You can also rent a cabana for a good price compared to other places. The weekend we went was very busy. There was a church group and a few birthday parties, but that didn't stop us from having fun! There's a convenience store next to the check in area and a cafe. The location to the KOA was near the freeway, but not once did we hear traffic or cars driving by. It truly felt like we were somewhere else. The staff around the property was very nice. This is just the starting point of our camping adventures. Next time we will stay at other KOA's and enjoy the other cabins available.

Lupe M.

Yelp
Been coming here for years, now bringing my grandkids. Love the Many activities for kids to keep them busy. Staff is always super friendly and helpful. Quiet time should also apply to DOGS! This last time around there were many barking dogs super early in the morning! Not good

Yelp
4.5. My 7 year old wanted to go camping and after the traumas of camping as a child we thought this would be a good introduction to seeing if we could handle real tent camping. We stayed here on a Saturday night in one of the "glamping" tents aka Eco tents. These tents have a full size bed, a separate area with 3 bunk beds, sink, coffee maker, microwave and fridge that has freezer and fridge part. There was a trash can in there and a rug that covered most of the floor. I appreciated that the bed had a high head board and foot board so if you are laying in bed you aren't awkwardly staring into someone else's tent and they can't see you. The tent walls allow you to have vented screens to allow air in or a closed regular tent wall. I am short so some of the zippers were too tall for me to reach to open so we didn't get to fully air out the tent. The area also has a gas grill, picnic table, fire pit with 4 Adirondack chairs that have a place between them for drinks or food. These tents have your parking space behind them so it is easy to load and unload. These are also super close to the restrooms and showers. Showers are individual rooms with a door that closes. I didn't use them but peeked in and they have a bench outside the shower area, and a spacious shower. Bathrooms had a hood amount of sinks and stalls. Bathrooms were clean and supplied. Check in was easy. Staff at check in were friendly. Keys are on sturdy metal surf board keychains. We didn't know about the $50 deposit for dogs but they stated as long as there was no damage we would get it refunded (we did). They stated if we needed firewood they would deliver it to campsite for $8. We had gone to Home depot and bought wood for more. We tried to check out the rock climbing wall(which no longer exists). But we went to the jumping pillows, did the beach treasure dig which requires a purchase at the gift shop. We did the $19.99 plus tax bag and it had been sitting around for a while and had moisture or got wet as the shark tooth necklace disintegrated after opening. We checked out the dog park, which is by the basketball court. They also had a gaga ball court? Pit? We did not see the horseshoe area or the surf shack shootout. They did have movie under the stars which we didn't know about and were trying to light a fire and make smores. Sunday we checked out the playground and got a barrel ride before check out. I will say this place is crowded. Sites are close to each other and there are tons of people. Tons of kids. Many just roaming, riding bikes, blaring music etc. it did get quiet during quiet hours so we had no issues with getting to sleep. It is well lit to get to the restrooms as I went in the middle of the night. We had breakfast at the Sand castle cafe and food was mediocre (bland) and overpriced. We got chilaquiles $16, kids breakfast #2 $10 and the big kahuna burrito $12 for a total of $41.32 with tax. Ordered a hot chocolate separate (their coffee machine was broken, only serving drip coffee which was still like $5) and it was $4.35 with tax. Overall a fun experience for us and the dogs! We will be back (when there is availability! Seems to be booked on the weekends regularly)

Yelp
Sketchy area but pretty nice. They closed the pool in our second day with no warning or apology which I didn't appreciate.

Yelp
We have been camping here labor day weekend for the last several years and in 2023 we added in a Halloween trip as well. The staff have many activities for the kids to keep them entertained all weekend long. The food in the restaurant is great, but on the pricey side. We love camping here!

Yelp
For all my Yelpers that love to camp, this place is a gem. My suggestion would be to become a member so you get notified of any deals coming up. We have been to multiple locations and this is our favorite. My 17 year old son loves it too. They have lots of activities and amenities that include jumping pillows, salt water pool, barrell train, rock climbing wall, activity center, cafe, and a location to rent bikes and other cool equipment. Make sure to check the calendar before you visit because each month they have other activities for the guests. On our trip, we were able to do the Snow Cone Social and make our own tie dye hoodies. The kids love it. The campground itself is huge and so many different accommodations. We usually do the true camping in a tent, so we book tent sites. our last visit we were in the tent village, which is a strip full of spots. You are closer to the people next to you, so if that's not what you are into, I would suggest book in a regular tent site. If you are a glamper, they do have cabins and deluxe cabins that look pretty cool. They have a couple of yurts, which is a must do for me. And if that's not your forte, you can also bring your own RV and park it in a spot. These spots have a fire pit which is pretty cool. I will definitely be back to this location especially because it isn't too far from Downtown.

Yelp
Loved it!! I've never heard of these or been to one & I needed a cheap place to stay in SD with my husband, good friend, and our dogs. All the hotels looked beyond sketchy so when my friend sent us the link for the glamping tent, I was still skeptical, but it seemed like a much better option. It was!!! And I'm so glad we stayed! You could hear the highway from where we were and the streets were littered with kids. But it was clean and comfortable. I will definitely be back but maybe to a cooler more secluded location next time.

Yelp
It's our second time staying here and we love it!! Our cabin is clean with 2 new AC units in the living room and bedroom. We enjoy the pool activity, jumping pillow and dog park as well. The gas grill outside our cabin is ready to be used with gas tank attached already.

Yelp
This is a GREAT campground! We loved it. It is very expensive but we felt it was worth it. Again, top of the line campground. Why only 3 stars? In these times of remote business and dependence on online communication, entertainment, and family communication..... It is absolutely unacceptable to charge these prices and offer NO INTERNET. I complained at the office and was told "Yeah, it's awful". Really? Hey San Diego Metro Koa: You gotta fix this. Strong internet service over the entire park is just as important as water, sewer, power, and all your other awesome amenities.

Yelp
We came for Marie Luther King weekend We arrived late at night the office was open until 9 PM , we got texted often with nice messages about our ETA. The camp was Huge , nice clean Lots to do, unfortunately It rained all weekend and couldn't do much. The store was equipped with everything you may need, wine, spirits souvenirs, food items, toys etc. The dog park was great! to bad it was muddy. The camper sites were very close to each other, and not much grassy area mostly cement. But overall really nice !!!

Yelp
We take our grandkids 'camping' each summer. They enjoy swimming pools, jump pillows, bikes & crafts so a KOA getaway is a good option for a couple nights. When they are a little older or we have more time, we'll go camping. This urban KOA has great activities for families - a large pool, bike rentals, gold/jewel panning, scavenger hunt. There's also a small snack bar that serves light meals & drinks. The freeway is nearby but surprisingly quiet, a least at our Rv site. There's plenty of trees offering shade but can drop a lot of debris onto your roof & awning. A flock of birds like to overnight in these trees & can add to the mess. Fire rings are at most sites (or can be delivered) along with/ firewood purchased at the office store. This KOA doesn't offer the beach but all of San Diego's sights are a short drive away.

Yelp
We had been going to Chula Vista RV Resort for many years and now that it is gone, we decided to try this place as we are now full timers and use KOA's quite a bit in our travels. What a mistake. Our site was in the front row right in front of the laundromat and pool, both very noisy. The worst of this park is the narrow roads and tight sites nestled under the dirtiest trees I have very encountered. Our utilities were inches away from our neighbors picnic table and surrounded by bushes which made it hard to negotiate to work around them. The trees were filled nightly by roosting crows that crap on everything in sight. Anything left out was covered in bird crap. We had to even bring in the steps at night as they were covered in crap after the first night. I had to get the motorhome washed after leaving to our next destination to protect the paint. What a miserable experience.

Dominic B.

Yelp
This was a great experience for us. The showers were fresh and hot, the basketball court was nice, the pool was heated, they had fun events like tie dye, rockets, and a Halloween costume contest. They had a clean cabin with no spiders

Yelp
Our reservation was made in October 2022 and we had a 35/foot camper (upgraded to 40). While we were in Utah I wrote them stating that we had the 40/foot after a bad experience there. Upon arrival we were put in a 30-amp spot which surprised me. You see, I had commented to them we were kind of new at this cross-country camping. They assured me we'd be fine. As I stated, even upon arrival, I didn't think 30 amp would be sufficient. They again assured me we'd be fine to just use 1 air conditioner. For that part we were fine. BUT ...I couldn't use the hair dryer, air fryer, washer & dryer, or anything but lights without turning off the 1 air conditioner. Groundskeepers were active in their jobs but we weren't escorted to our site as we have been at many KOAs. The staff were personable. The store was well-stocked. The main reason we were unhappy is we were in a whole row of 50-amp sites. I contacted them, saying I could pay for an upgraded site, once we realized we couldn't use anything with the 1 air conditioner but they said there was nothing they could do about it. We were there for 17 days visiting our family. We kept seeing tiny campers come and go in the 50/amp sites. I feel as though we were taken advantage of because I said we were novices at this cross country camping. THIS IS A TEACHING MOMENT! Why not actually look at the reservations and make recommendations? Particularly when someone is a beginner.

Yelp
They seemingly have taken care of the extremely loud nights and the place is back to the campground we love. Staff are awesome and the activities, playground and jumping pillows are fun and plentiful. Gisele did a great job on customizing my tie dye shirt, thanks tons. The cafe is awesome as always. My grandkids love the store and thanks for the patience while we shopped and shopped! Booking for next Labor Day already!

Hyerin M.

Yelp
We stayed here for 2 nights and 3 days. However, a group of 20 guests around the camping cabin site played loud music and had a party all afternoon, so we couldn't talk or rest. We came here to relax, not to party at a club. The problem lies with the koa manager who turned a blind eye to this problem. The KOA general manager must issue warnings and control guests who are noisy and do not follow the campsite rules. Take responsibility for not causing any harm to other guests.

Lauri H.

Yelp
We used to enjoy this campground. We are here for the weekend and have already decided we won't return. The sites around us are having a reunion or celebration and the music is so loud all day and night long. We called the front office to ask if they could kindly ask them to turn it down. She said there's nothing they could do if it was before 10pm. The noise is all day and long into the evening. We cannot even sit outside our RV because their music is so loud. Even sitting inside our RV with our TV turned up doesn't help. You can't even drive down the street to leave without waiting for this group to get out of the way. They are literally blocking the roads We're all about fun and a good time. But we would never be so loud to disturb our neighbors. The owners here are obviously only concerned about making money and are afraid to tell obnoxious guests to be mindful of other people.

Yelp
We absolutely love coming to this KOA. The pros: close to home, fun activities for kids, friendly staff. They have a small store with toys, food, personal care just in case you for get something at home. Everyone is super friendly for the most part, but they're all super young so don't expect them to go out of their way to have a conversation with you or be "relatable" They sell wood and being you a fire pit if you need one. They offer a few free activities like barrel rides (fun for all ages) they sell activities too and offer bike rentals. They have a giant bow up cushion thing (like a trampoline) called the jumping pillows and super fun for kids of all ages. They host games or lollipop hunt in "their backyard" They sell shaved iced (nothing fancy but delicious). They also have "the Sandcastle Cafe" that seep breakfast lunch and dinner they close at 8p Friday and Sunday. Food is okay, good if you are hungry. They sell coffee and alcohol. The cons: the spots are pretty close together, you have no privacy, there aren't much trees and it doesn't feel like "real" camping. It's not a deal breaker but definitely not outdoorsy if that's what you're looking for.

Cynthia C.

Yelp
We had a great stay until the smell came in Friday and Saturday. It smelled like sewage leaking and the wind would blow in a certain direction it would make you gag. We called the office both nights and they were fast to respond, but could not find the problem. Campers moved out Sunday and the smell left. It was difficult to be out side with the smell.

Yelp
I stayed here almost 2 months and loved it! I've been staying at Fiddlers Cove and Admiral Baker and I can say with certainty this Koa is better! Everyone's friendly, it feels safe, the cafe is amazing, love the store and shower and laundry always clean! I didn't really experience any downside. Gonna try to leave Admiral Baker and return to this KOA. 5+ stars!!

Yelp
Ended up here for the annual camping trip w/ the fam. There's MANY amenities and activities here that makes it so enjoyable for kids! I will list some, and post some photos of them as well! Since the list of pros is so long, I'll start with the CONS. CONS: I would NOT recommend coming here for TENT CAMPING. This is definitely more geared towards RVs, and their many cabin options that they have. This place is located right off the freeway, practically beneath an underpass. There is a very limited strip of tent camping spots here. Maybe a block long. It literally gives off homeless encampment vibes. You can see the freeway underpass LOL. It is so loud at night due to the freeway. There's a walkway outside the camp and at 2am there's people riding by on bicycles blasting music, helicopters flying by. It's just really not a peaceful tent camping experience, if you are looking for that, find a forest LOL. For this reason, I'd dock off a star, more if there weren't so many great pros about staying here! PROS: -Sooo many amenities! A beautiful pool and hot tub, rock climbing, surf shack shootout game, playground, bike rentals, basketball, K9 park, train rides for the kids, jumping pillows (huge trampolines in the ground, I wish it was open later because it closes at 6pm, but during the summer it's too hot to jump on until it gets cooler) -CLEAN SHOWERS AND BATHROOMS. I've been to campgrounds where they limit you to 5 min showers, and runs out of hot water by early evening. So this is a huge bonus for me! The whole campground was super clean! -Many ways to camp! RV spots, deluxe cabins, 1-2 bedroom cabins, and "eco-tents", perfect for glamping. They're built in tents with wood floors and beds inside. You get the same experience as a regular tent, just less dirt lol. Super cool! There's a kitchen area to grill, wash dishes, and outlets. There was so many amenities that we didn't even get to try them all! There was no obnoxious partiers at nighttime. Weather was warm and breezy. Overall, a GREAT PICK for a family vacay!!!!!!

Yelp
Beautiful resort campground! Bike/Running path just outside the gate. Short drive to downtown and waterfront. The missing star is because the sites are so close to each other. No privacy with neighbours about 4 feet away. I would still recommend this KOA. It is one of the top 3 most beautiful KOA's we've stayed at. And we have stayed at over 20 KOAs.

Sandy N.

Yelp
If you get the older lady at the front, ask for someone else to help you. She COMPLETELY screwed up our reservations. Our parties made reservations in March, for a stay in August. We called and asked that our sites be next to each other since we are in a tent and the other is in an RV. They said no problem. We (tent) get here and check in and of course, mention the same thing again. The older lady put us in 1308 and said the other party would be in 1206...not bad, just a couple spaces down. Well we get here and an RV is already in 1206, but 1205, 1207 and 1208 are empty. We figure she misspoke and meant to say one of the other spots, so we unloaded the car and started setting up in our spot. As we're doing so, we notice that other RVs are coming in and parking in the empty spots that were close to us, so once we finished getting everything set up, we went back up to the front desk to ask again about the RV spot. The younger and more competent female employee looked at the map, and the look on her face was a dead indicator that she realized that the old lady had messed up. Apparently, RV spots 1205-1208 were all booked together, so our RV party was actually getting assigned 1201. Guess what tent site was right across and empty? Yup...you guessed it!! 1301!! ‍ Honestly don't know how some people get by in life. We have a serious lack of common sense in this world and if things don't change, I dunno what's gonna happen. Anyhow....the employee asked if we wanted to move to 1301...she def realized the MISTAKE they had made. Yeah, lemme pack up all my sh*t that I just spent 90 minutes setting up and move down that way. No thanks, we're staying put.

Yelp
Amazing time. Customer service was great. Stayed in the cabin was spacious and clean. Definitely recommend.

Anonymous A.

Yelp
Booked newer cabins near the pool area. For those looking to throw a small gathering whether it be for birthday party or whatever, know that they have strict rules about amount of people able to gather per cabin. I understand the max to be able to stay the night in the cabin. Ours only allowed 6 people max that includes staying the night and visitors. They don't care if you're gathering for a couple hours all they are trying to do is make money off of you even though you spend so much per night already. Beginning to feel like Disneyland even though they say family friendly. KOA said they stated on their booking paperwork that it clearly states their minimum requirements. Which I didn't see all I knew was their requirement for the max number of people allowed to stay the night in their cabins. In addition to the two night stay that we paid we had to book an additional spot to be able to accommodate their strict max person policy. Which no one will be using! Money wasted! My family and I have been loyal campers here for 20+ years. We feel like this KOA has not been what it used to be. I know they've done major upgrades which explains the high prices. We don't feel like they are understanding or accommodating to families anymore. Just want everyone to be aware ,that if you plan on booking here at KOA Chula Vista Metro for family gatherings there will be extra charges and you will have to book for another camping spot(s) to accommodate their policy. They should use their money towards deep cleaning their cabins once in a while. We will no longer consider staying here any longer.

Yelp
On our first visit we reserved an end rv back in site. It was nice with full hook ups and cable tv (didn't use this time). The pads aren't too large, but there's a bit of grass between each one. The grounds are very well kept, green and trimmed. Sometimes though they start mowing earlier than preferred. This is a great place to take your dogs. There are several grassy areas and waste stations. There is also a large mulched pet pen at the back of the park with fun obstacles. For the kids (and adults!) there is a large bouncy pillow, basketball court, horseshoes, frisbee golf?, and turfed kid play pens. There's also a children's playground with picnic tables. The heated pool is huge! It is resort style with nice facilities and tables and chairs. They also offer cart rentals by the pool. There are nice bungalows for rent by the pool which are typically sold out far in advance. They also offer other bungalows in the main park, cabins, tents, and self tent sites with water spigots and outlets. The cafe turns out some decent food for an rv park. Quick bites include breakfast plates and sandwiches, lunch salads with proteins, etc. Make sure to check hours as they close early (1pm? Weekdays). The small general store at the main office offers a variety of essentials. They will deliver your purchased firewood bundles as well as complimentary fire pits. Please keep the pits on the patio and on top of their pallets. They offer propane for purchase as well as free air and a vacuum. This second visit we opted for a premium rv pull through end site. Unfortunately, this end site was at the crossroads of 2 main roads in the park as well as right across from the maintenance yard. There were vehicles all day long including trucks, tractors, and forklifts, etc. The road dust would constantly get kicked up a bit. The freeway was quite noisy as well, but nothing ear plugs can't take care of. I would steer clear of the northeast side of the park. Overall, we're pleased with the accommodations and amenities and likely to return again.

Yelp
This place continues to be so much fun for our family. There are so many activities for the kids. The breakfast with Santa was really cute.

Yelp
My 3rd summer staying here w/ my family & this time was very different from years past. The mermaid/pirate pool event was a mess: big kids rough housed INTO the little ones, large group of adults had super-soaker fight over the event/kids, a naked boy (bigger than my tall 7yr old daughter) was later put into tighty-whities to swim (instead of a swimsuit) ONLY BECAUSE 2 women started yelling at staff to bring attn to him laying down NAKED on the very shallow beach entrance to the pool... right in front of them "working." The staff socialized + the activities director barked at kids to "get away" while she had each staff member take an individual pic w/ the mermaid. Zero of their pool rules were enforced, possibly because none of the staff paid attention to notice what was going on. Beyond stressful & not at all safe. My kids ended up going in the overcrowded spa because they felt "uncomfortable!" I spoke to a manager who said he was at the mermaid event, saw nothing, but IF any of it had actually happened he would have taken action. THAT IS THE POINT. There were upwards of 10 staff at the pool but no one was paying attention. He gave no apology & dismissed me as if I were lying. Trash everywhere: planters, walkways, in pool area, playground, field, streets, etc. Not new daily, but same stuff + new piling up. We walked past men's underwear laying in a puddle on the side of our row for 4 days. *Having a couple staff on daily cleanup duty would go a long way. Rock climbing wall was broken all 5 days. Movie night was delayed 30min bc audio cord broke & they didn't have a backup...a guest had one that they borrowed. Inappropriate music blasted all day/night...party environment more than kid friendly. All of this on its own would never have warranted my writing this out, but everything combined was really disappointing. Either the owners need to take action or future guests with young kids need to be aware of what their high priced stay is getting them.

Yelp
We have been here several times over the year and everything was fine. This time, when we booked several months ago, we were told the pool was under construction and would be ready by June 12, 2024 - TODAY! When we spoke with management, they were clearly defiant and refused to acknowledge any mistakes on their part and kept insisting they will have the pool ready. Please note, we have five children whose entire dream of a vacation consists of a swimming pool. Also, we checked in on Tuesday, June 11th and will be checking out Friday. At this rate, the pool still is being worked on, and is completely empty of water. So, exactly when will this pool be ready? Management refuses to accept any responsibility and at this point will NOT credit us! Please DO NOT book at this KOA. I not only do NOT recommend this place, but feel management purposely lied knowing well in advance that the pool would NOT be ready for use as they had promised. This management is not only unprofessional but uses deceptive practices in marketing their site.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! We booked in June and stayed Nov 9-11. They were awesome at the front desk, since I had forgotten to request our cabins be side by side.. the lady at the front was able to rearrange our cabins to be next door to each other.. so WIN!! I've used these grounds twice now. The first time, on a whim.. we stayed in an eco tent just to kill covid blues lockdown. This time, we had our annual cousin reunion trip planned here and stayed for a few days! We had 6 families book to stay here. Each fam stayed in a deluxe cabin by the entrances. These cabins were impressive. Nice, roomy, upstairs loft with running water.. bathroom/shower.. kitchenette (no oven). Very convenient for us GLAMPERS! Dishes, cookware was included. All we had to bring was the food. Only downfall was that the stoves took forever to warm up and the biggest pot was not big at all. I had to split 2 boxes of Mac n cheese between two families just to make sure it didn't take 30+ mins to cook. Each cabin has a bonfire pit and a grill, almost private patio. We put up our screen and projector and had movies and smores by the campfire. The Cafe opened on Thurs, which was a bummer because we wanted coffee on Tues and Wed and they weren't open. The gift shop is huge with plenty of camp needs and lots of random finds. Nice big playground up front. Bouncy pillow for hours of jumping and a big open field and bball courts out back in the "backyard". Pool was nice, big and clean. Unfortunately many of the bikes for rental were out of service. My sister was looking for one of those quad family bikes and they only had one available. It wasn't a big deal since there wasn't a lot of ppl around. We also packed our bikes and the kids had plenty of space to ride around day and night. There are weekend activities as well. Definitely a fun staycation or glamping-camping family adventure! They have deluxe cabins of different sizes.. some without bathrooms.. eco tents... bring your own tent sites and RV sites. Everything for every type of camper... you just don't have to worry about bears. Check the place out!

Yelp
We always love our time here. The location is always clean and they always have fun events for the kids. One of our favorite things is to visit the cafe and to swim at the pool. Great food even though can take some time to wait. They have a cute little spot to wait on your food and the kids can play in the sand pit. Great for bike riding around the RV's or taking the kids on scooters. We really can't say enough.

Yelp
Great place! Clean and lots to do for families! Camping spots are nice too, we have a 5th wheel and we had plenty of room.

Yelp
This KOA is TERRIFIC! Great sites, wonderful amenities, super clean, and helpful staff! Never had anything but a positive experience at this KOA and look forward to returning soon!

Yelp
First-grade customer service. I've stayed here a a few times and every staff member (especially front office) are always welcoming, accommodating, and organized. I was wearing a mask because I had recently got over a bug, and a staff member put on a mask when I walked in and made me feel comfortable and respected.. The entire facility is very clean and well maintained. Laundry facilities use modern commercial equipment, yet require quarters. Need updating to Apply or Google Pay. The playground is a bit small for a facility this size. The kid activities are spread out, and the jumpy pillow is not really that close to the play structure. San Diego KOA Wi-Fi is effectively unusable. Do not bother. After-hours with the park half empty, the speeds are atrocious. Bring your dishy or tether your devices. Excellent ATT, TMO, and VZW reception. I'm glad it is free but the speed is horrendous. The on-site cafe is great, when it's open. The store is very big and well-stocked. Many kids are running around at night seemingly unsupervised, but I guess parents must feel very safe here. There is this kids' club that seems to always be closed. The pool is nice and large but the hot tub was a bit busy. If you're a light sleeper, this may be a problem. you may hear some freeway noise, some helicopter noise from the nearby Marine base, or camp neighbors. The camp staff do not enforce quiet hours. Our motor home is a 30A, but we parked at a 50A site so we could charge our Tesla at the same time which is nice.

Yelp
Camped here for the 1st time Father's Day weekend 2021 (Friday/Saturday). My husband and I have a 15 month old and a Corgi! Overall, we had a great time and look forward to returning again! Pros: Very family friendly. Lots of families, tons of activities for kids, and staff were all friendly. The pool was very nice and all pool loungers and tables were well maintained and clean. I also liked that there was a small fake grass area inside pool area so if the lounge chairs fill up, you can still lay out on the grass! We ordered pizza, wings, fries and a margarita from the on site restaurant while at the pool! All the food was great! Make sure to grab the activity sheet for your stay when you check in! There were activities all day long during our stay, however they are all geared towards elementary and older kids, nothing foe toddlers, which was fine! Dog park is cute, but I do wish there was grass, it's all dirt. Highly recommend for families with kids as there are bikes to rent, jumping pillows, etc but playground was a little too big for our 15 month old. Cons: We stayed in site 3210, right in front of the pool, which I thought would be great since we were so close to all activities, but we would NEVER camp in this spot again. There are huge trees full of crows and our trailer and truck were covered in bird shit after day one. Super disappointing. We had to keep everything under the awning and constantly move things around. Also, being so close to the pool means lots crying kids leaving the pool and the sound of the air compressor from the bike shop inflating kids bike tires all day. Next time we will request the middle or back row for a bit more quite. The camping spots are tight, they are not as pictured on the website with lots of grass. We had hardly any grass, mostly dirt. Because we have a toy hauler and needed to put the back down to unload, we could hook up to sewer (we will have to bring an extra long hose next time to reach), so we had to unload then back the trailer up. The hookups are too far back with so much unused room in front of campsite, even with a truck. You also have to request a fire pit, which they delivered quickly, but it's a metal pit with NO holes in it! So we could not have a fire! We ended up going to target to buy a fire pit. Therefore if you have a fire pit bring your own! Overall for a holiday weekend, we enjoyed our stay and everyone respected the quiet time around us. We will return again, but will stay in a site with no trees! We seriously will be scrubbing bird shit off our trailer, awning and truck for weeks

Yelp
Let me tell you bout the SD Metro KOA baby. It's Glamping at its best. Me, well I prefer real camping & getting dirty & drunk & not take a shower for 3 days but my girl is a bit prissy when it comes to camping so we do this. I actually don't mine, I mean it ain't real camping but it's pretty cool. My kids like it & I got family that like it too & come here to chill. I like getting the tent areas & set it up & just grill, drink & chill. They got cabins too, big ones & little ones. The big ones have beds, showers, TV's & a kitchen so of course my wife loves it, prices vary. If you go the tent or RV way they do have showers there & restrooms. They also have a new big pool area which is cool & a basketball court & bikes & carts for kids to rent. They also have a snack bar & little store with everything in it. And if you don't like the food there or the kids don't like what you grilled that's fine just go to Carl's Jr. or the pizza place across the way (& that's why I really don't call this a camping site) & the staff here is pretty good. I just don't like that after 10pm they get all library status & strict & tell you to turn off your music & go to sleep or keep it down, WTF? Dude it's suppose to be a camping site but I got to be quiet or go to sleep after 10pm? And they'll keep checking on you too, so bring a boring book to read for the 10pm camping curfew. Also rumor has it this place is known for men to bring their mistress here & get a cabin or a tent if their ghetto. No one will catch you here & that's your tip for those dirty men going through a mid life crises. Overall this place is ok to spend a couple days in & have some pretend camping time with your family. Kids like it & it is pretty chill here & I will be coming back with the fam, no mistress for me tho, I'm a happy middle age man. :)

Yelp
This is always been one of our favorite places to stay near San Diego. Close to so many things. They have made many upgrades over the last few years. However, cleanliness has been forgotten. They put in beautiful new showers and bathrooms but the showers already have mold growing. At the restaurant they have put out pretty good food but the help seems new and a bit confused. The dining tables were dirty most of the time. We had to ask for one to be cleaned off and it seemed like we were asking a lot. The new pool is amazing and that is the only reason I am giving this four stars. My grandkids absolutely loved it! Our small cabin had a creaky doors that were very hard to close and such damn lighting that we could barely see into our suitcases. I hope they upped their game because they used to be just about the best game in town for families.

Yelp
I was incredibly surprised how fun this campground is. I knew it was located in a city and was a bit hesitant booking because I enjoy leaving the city, rather than camping in it, but given the recent reviews thought I would give it a try. First of all I was very impressed with how helpful and friendly all of the campground staff is towards their guests. I did notice a few entitled guests and the staff handled themselves with upmost professionalism and friendliness. Secondly there are so many activities for the children. My toddler really enjoyed the playground and inflatable jumping mats. So we can I came there was painting, tie dye, rocket launches and a movie night. We rode the "train" and our bikes around the campground. Lastly, there is a café with a full menu and delicious adult beverages with daily specials. The margaritas here are a must! I already booked my next trip! I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my stay here!

Yelp
Wonderful being so close to the bike path so in one direction I could bicycle ride to Coronado Hotel...about 20 miles away and in other direction to downtown San Diego about 10 miles away. Lots of activity at this KOA where most people were in their campers or the cabins or bungalows, but I was in my tent and enjoyed my stay. After dinner each night I took a walk around the KOA and here are the bungalows and pool area at night. Service was always great. Workers are around picking up trash, checking on plant life, and cleaning places for the next people who will be arriving.

Yelp
We had never been, but the website looked good (and KOAs are usually pretty nice). It exceeded every expectation! Our deluxe site had an amazing fire pit, gas grill, Cable TV... The rest of the campground is well laid out, has a cafe, a huge pool, bike rentals, new showers... We have a 31 foot AClass easily fit, zero issues! We booked 4 more trips here based on this stay!

Yelp
You may not be able to spot it if you're passing by but if you get right off on the 805 freeway on Sweetwater you will discover a little hidden outdoor oasis called San Diego KOA. This was the first weekend they were open for limited recreational camping, while continuing to follow county and state-issued COVID-19 guidelines (which had most of their recreation and other amenities temporarily closed). My bf & our good friend, who had been practicing social distancing since the stay-at-home order went out hurried to book our spot. We got there Friday night right as the sun was going down. It was perfect became we didn't have neighbors on our side of the street and most people had brought their RV's, and we were far definitely over 6ft apart. The campgrounds were VERY clean! It kind of game me the feeling of camping in a backyard. There was a pool, rock climbing, cafe that also served drinks...all of which were closed of course (except the cafe), but once its fully functioning I think is a really neat place. We chose to tent camp, but they have so many options of how to stay. You can choose from RV camping, tent camping, tiny house cabins, glamping tents, and much more. I think this is a perfect campground for people who are beginner campers who just want to get their feet wet in the outdoors. I am excited for other KOA's to open up!

Yelp
Honestly one of the best KOA's I have been to. Very family friendly, the staff is nice, food at the cafe is good and they have fun activities for the kids. The best part is the resort style pool. The atmosphere is amazing, I never want to leave when I'm here. Cant wait to go back this weekend

Yelp
Clean, convenient, safe and easy sums it up. The facilities were very clean and according to the cleaning chart they appeared to be cleaned about every two to three hours. They have a heated pool, bike rentals, some kind of a bouncy thing, dog park, recreation center with games and billards, a playground and a cafe that serves breakfast and lunch. They also have a general store and will deliver firewood to your site. We stayed in the Economy Tents which is really like glamping. The tents are thick canvas. There is a main room with a queen bed, sink with hot water, microwave and mini fridge. There is a separate side room with two bunk beds. We went in the winter for NYE and it was freezing. But we brought an electric heater which made a big difference in the tent. Outside there is a fire pit, picnic table and umbrella and a 2 burner Weber grill. There are three other tents with the same and all have turf. Great spot for a large group. Our friends got the deluxe cabin which was also pretty awesome. It has a leather couch, two tvs, full fridge and kitchen, bathroom and shower and two beds. I think it may have had bunks but I can't remember. The ONLY negative is the location which is adjacent to a neighborhood and freeway. But frankly, it isn't that noticeable. Overall it is a great place for camping. The grounds are safe for kids and pets and everything was very clean.

Yelp
Our favorite getaway. The grounds are beautiful and very well taken care of. The spots are spacious, level, and shaded. There's a beautiful pool and hot tub. Shower facilities are spotless! Loads of activities for kids. Love this campground.

Yelp
Two night stay at another fine KOA! Had a "Premium Back-In", $85 night, which includes 30/50 amp and full hook-ups. The back-in part was paved and level, and there was a small patch of grass on either side, a picnic table, and a small fire pit/grill. I believe there is WiFi, but I didn't really use it or get a log in code or anything, nor did I inquire about one. Its a huge deal for some, so I can't vouch for that. This particular KOA is bustling with activities, and could be a destination in itself. There are a TON of family and kid centered activities, such as a big heated pool, a rock climbing wall, bikes and scooters for rent, a playground, a big bouncy platform, and it all was clean and there was always plenty of staff on hand patrolling the grounds. The campground itself is very large. I arrived late in the evening and got checked in and backed my trailer in. After walking around the entire park the next day, I would say it could be a bit stressful to back in, as there are a TON of kids biking, running, dogs, people walking, and it seemed like really tight one way roads. I was lucky and had a spot on the very end, and it was late so backing in was easy. I can imagine tho in the day it being really stressful with all the commotion. There is an on-site little cafe, a store for any last minute amenities, a separate dump station, a propane fill station, and there were about 6 communal table areas with a center propane fire pit. These were really neat. I was here for the Zoo, but I could see coming here to just hang out and chill and let the kids run around and play all day. A note of interest was, during the day, absolute mad house, people everywhere, "loud", movement, noise, but soon as the sun went down, the park was QUIET. A nice surprise! The majority of the people were middle--aged parents looking to have some fun and recreation in a safe place. Lots of smiles and happy parents, having an adult beverage, watching their kids play and ride bikes. A nice community vibe. The bathrooms were always clean, and the shower and water pressure were fine. I used the App to book and pay, check-in was took about 10 minutes, the grounds are locked and gated at night, the place is clean and organized. If you're familiar with KOA camping, you'll appreciate this campground. If this is your first KOA camping experience, you may be overwhelmed with all the hustle and bustle. Like their KOA motto, "Its not camping, its KOA." Oh, forgot to add, they offer $10 discount zoo tickets, but they're only valid M-F. I'd recommend this 2014 "Campground of the Year" to others and would stay here again.

Yelp
My family spent 4 days here in August. We rented 2 side by side tent sites with water and electricity. We enjoyed our stay here. There were so many activities for the kids to do, they loved the bounce pads. The walk in pool helped my timid son get over his nervousness in the water. The camp ground were well kept, the bathrooms and showers were clean. During our stay we saw low crowds and a full crowds. Saturday being the most busy night. We've already made plans to visit again. Two cons, the crows which have been mentioned in other reviews really are loud. And there was a lot of spiders. No one was bitten or anything just as someone who has arachnophobia there were spiders everywhere. Since this is a campsite you can expect animals like birds and insects like spiders so you can't really complain about nature when camping so I took it in stride. But if you can't deal with birds or insects maybe get a hotel.
