San Diego Tacos Shop

Stopping at San Diego Taco Shop when in Irving is something I always look forward to. In the 10+ years I’ve been coming by when I am in town the food is always delicious. I’m a creature of habit and order a carne asada burrito or a fajita taco with carne asada and it always is so delicious. My husband absolutely loves the red sauce here but I don’t think it’s even needed. The food was just as good today as it was the first time I came.

Good customer service goes a long way and I had stopped going because of how their customer service is non existent. Went for breakfast tacos and was instantly reminded why I stopped going. The girl who delivered my food had zero customer service experience when I confirmed my order. I asked for two different style tacos (two different people) and they were placed in one plate so I confirmed that it was all four tacos, she only shook her head. Asked for only green salsa and I was given one green one red so when I mentioned it she gave me a look like I was asking for too much. Switched out the red for the green salsa and wasn’t given any type of courtesy or pleasantries.

Pretty bad if comparing to Mexican food from San Diego. The so called carne asada they have is all shredded, really weird and not good. It’s almost like fake mushroom meat. California burrito isn’t even close. No fries, no sour cream. Whoever thought this is what is served in San Diego should be fired.

The california burrito was a major disappointment. No french fries, guacamole, or sour cream 😭 Having lived in San Diego I've enjoyed my share of California burritos and this shop's didn't meet the mark. At least I'll give them credit for meat quantity being sufficient and tortilla was a solid B. But to call this a California burrito it needs the fries, guac, and sour cream if you ask me. That's what makes it amazing.

I was kind of disappointed that 3 items were $48. Then I got home and tasted the food and was absolutely pissed. The food taste like cardboard. Nothing has a wow factor. Even the salsa is mid. Everything tastes like they cooked it and then soaked it in water or something. No seasoning, lukewarm, dry. I wouldn’t return.

I've never been disappointed. I love their Chimichanga as well as their Barbecoa tacos. You can never miss with either.

I am from San Diego raised in San Diego and one thing I missed. The most is the California burritos. I went here to get one. It was very disappointing to find out that they use potatoes instead of fries. I did ask them to sub potatoes with fries when they gave me my burrito. It did not have any guacamole. It did not have any sour cream, and the burrito Looked Super thin for the price. If this owner claims to be from San Diego and it’s calling this to California burrito. He needs to go visit and order a California burrito from any taco shop in California. So he knows what we expect. Honestly was very disappointed. We’ll never be back.

I heard about this place and wanted to give it a try. There is ample parking and a drive through for convenience. A very old fashioned Mexican restaurant. The menu is on the wall and offered lots of choices. I chose the #18, 2 carne asada tacos with rice and beans. The food was prepared in a timely manner. The tacos were large and the carne was well seasoned. The rice was a little bland, as were the beans. The bottled salsa was not very hot. I would come back to try a different dish and to ask if there was a secret “hotter” salsa available.

As a San Diego native, an Irving resident I wanted to love this place so much. Everytime I've tried, sometimes years between visits, it hasn't been good. Burnt Carne, old Guac, long wait times, wrong orders. I wish I could recommend. That's being said, if someone can vouch for improvement I will try again.

The food tastes good, no complaints there. *Having a minimum of 2 breakfast tacos to buy is a no go. *The size of the tacos are ridiculously small *More than positive the flour tortillas are not house made San Antonio has better tacos in Tejas

We go here regularly. We love their burritos. Always good and you make two meals out of one if you are not super hungry. Their taco plate and salsa and chips are excellent as well. Not super speedy in the drive through,but fast enough considering what they are preparing. Dining room clean and basic. We will continue to frequent them.

Amazing food! I've been here every week since I've tried it, their carne asada burrito with beans and cheese has my heart! Soooo freaking good

this spot has definitely gone down. they give rotten food and will get offended when asked to exchange it. They also Give different pricing for sides and use "that's what we have always charged" when questioned. Go to Gilberto's Tacos in Arlington instead!!! I'm so glad I made the 20 min drive even tho this spot is 2 mins from my house.

Came here on a friend's recommendation. There so many little Mexican spots in the area and it's hard to decide on good spots. This place was pretty good it is a small place with maybe 8 small tables. They feature tacos, sopes, gorditas and burritos that are massive. If the flavor was more prominent I would give it a higher rating but don't think that it wasn't a good eat. I wanted more after I was done. It is great for quick Mexican food and the portions are pretty fantastic and definitely gave it another stars worth especially for the value. Perfect place for a good lunch. Plenty of parking, quick and delicious.

Food was amazing, very reminiscent of SoCal Carne Asada Burritos and Carne Asada Fries.

Great prices, open late, good tasting food, plus they have a drive through!!! If you're in the area and want something quick, check this spot out!

This place is great for quick service tacos or Mexican food. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are always friendly. It's more of a good hole in the wall type of place than a sit down restaurant but it's perfect for carry out or a quick meal. I usually stop by for a quick bite when I'm in this part of Irving.

Drive through and sit down (ish) fast food, authentic taco shop! These tacos are definitely authentic and live up to the name. The tacos orders comes with two tacos each, we ordered the carne asada and those were massive and good. The bean and cheese burrito was my favorite, and also the portion size was huge. The tortilla could've been a bit more authentic, it was a bit doughy. The quesadilla was probably the favorite overall, we asked for cheese but got carne asada and that was a good mistake! It was good and stayed well in the fridge when we ate the leftovers the next day.

This is one of the best taco shops in all of DFW! I am a San Diego native who moved to DFW and I missed the taste of Mexican food back in SoCal. This restaurant has always maintained great portion sizes, flavor, and they keep prices reasonable. If you are the owner of this location, I would love to help you with your drive through sign, it's incredibly hard to read and worn out and I am a graphic designer who would be happy to help create new menu signs for the drive through for free as a thank you for always having the best food. The nacho were delicious! It was a very large portion of chips, carne asada, quacamole, sour cream, beans, and cheese. The gorditas were filled to the max with meat. The staff was friendly. Expect a slight wait, but it's worth it.

Drove all the way from Little Elm to try this place. I am originally from San Diego so I'm always missing my taco shop rolled tacos. I ordered rolled tacos which were really good. I also ordered a carne asada burrito for later but ended up taking a few bites there. The carne was too salty. I think the cook was probably just heavy handed with the salt that day. It wasn't dry though. But that's why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. I will revisit to see if that was just an off day, im really hoping that's all it was.

I'll save you the trouble. Outside of its name, there is nothing San Diego about the Mexican food here. Based on previous reviews, I really thought it was possible the food could be the same but it fell very short of what we anticipated. The produce didn't taste fresh and tortillas tasted stale, and the hot sauce was watered down. Service was decent- so I had to drop two stars. I hate leaving bad reviews so I always try a place a second time, maybe I will update in the future.

This has got to be the worst lunch I have ever had! I order the nachos with jalapeños. The meat was all stuck together and had a shredded sort of consistency. The cheese was in chunks that were only partly melted. The taste was as bad as the plate looked. I was sick to my stomach the rest of the day! I will never ever go back again!

Their carnita and fish tacos are delish!! And at a great price too! I will be back! Barbacoa Tacos are yummy too!

I drive past this place every morning. On 4 occasions I stop to get breakfast through the drive through. In all four cases, nobody ever takes my order. Today I pull up the the window and see an employee standing there and won't look over. Then a second. Finally a third person sees me and they come to window. I explain and the girl couldn't care less. I drove off for the 4th time after spending 15 minutes waiting. Clearly the people work there don't care.

Tried this place for the first time today, The Tong (lengua) tacos were chunky and meat was hard The Pastor tacos were chewy, the meat wasn't cut up very well The bistek tacos were ok the chicharron was very good. Over all it seemed a calm place, not a lot of traffic at lunch time.

Love this place, but my partner doesn't just because they don't have taco de tripas. But for me this place is amazing

I had been once before and it was okay. The barbacoa tacos are decent. Staff is rude and my torta came with expired bread. Literally it was not even staying together because it was crumbling so bad. Please just go to Fito's or anywhere else.

the meat in this place its always awful specially the chicken its always hard to eat like its been there sitting since hours another one that happened to me i ordered a chicken milanesa torta they dont even cut the chicken and they gave me a bistec milanesa and the meat was hard that i could even break it with my teeth had to use a knife nd didn't eat that meat because how could they mistaken chicken with bistec

Drove through here while on break from work. Ordered the asada taco plate & it didn't disappoint. Very filling & full of flavor. Lots of meat for the amount you pay will be going back.

Best breakfast burritos! Their chorizo burritos are the best but their steak burritos are really good too!

I walked in, waited for service at the counter for several minutes. There were only five people in the place sitting together at two tables and they already had their food. There were four or five people working in the back. If someone had just acknowledged I existed I would have hung around.

The place is very small but the pricing is good for a low budget outing. The chorizo had a good taste but the tacos al pastor weren't as tasty. There's a three dollar minimum in order to pay with card.

Great food! Great price! Would recommend this to anyone living in the Irving Coppell area.

The first time I tried to order carne asada fries at a restaurant (not here), I had to EXPLAIN what I meant and ended up getting a STEAK served on some waffle fries.. and at that point, I gave up ever hoping to find carne asada fries in Texas. Not ANYMORE, BABY! This place is like a small little piece of San Diego transplanted here just for me. Pricing: Who cares, this place has carne asada fries!? Just kidding, it's affordable and you can get 2 burritos and the fries for a little over $20, nbd

Tried this taco shop... got 6 beef tacos and some nachos... pretty tasty and the service was pretty quick... will definitely go back

The best I have had in the area. I moved here from San Diego and they have legit carne asada fries and rolled tacos. It makes me so happy to find a place that reminds me of home because of the good food and the name of course.

Carne asada fries, shrimp tostada, tacos de tripa and enchiladas rojas are all perfection. Cold drinks, and hot drinks, friendly service, it's a nice clean spot to enjoy their menu. They have something for everyone.

2 stars bc Chimichanga is decent however..... I lived in San Diego for about 12yrs before deciding to move to the DFW. I was so excited to try this place just to be extremely disappointed. There is no way the owners are from San Diego. This is a horrible representation of Cali-Mex. They use fish sticks for their fish Tacos‼‼‼ If San Diegans knew that, this place would be burned to the ground! And yes I tried most of their menu before making this review. This place has tremendous upside. No bad vibes I just hope to push you guys to represent San Diego better.

1) food was good 2) salsa was great 3) tacos are the length of a finger 4) if you enjoy having flies swarming around you, then this is the place. I couldn't believe the amount of flies in this place 5) the light in the mens bathroom doesn't work so not sure how workers wash their hands. Good luck and bring a huge mata mosca (fly swatter)

Not the best looking place but always delicious. Huge burritos and the aguas frescas are so natural and tasty. Salsas are always fresh. Service can vary but that's with most restaurants

San Diego Tacos is my mainstay when I'm broke and it's late. My go-to is the California burrito, which is a dependable San Diego burrito with carne asada, french fries, cheese, and pico, and is usually way too much food for me, but I keep going because... inertia. My second go-to is the gorditas plate, which comes with 2 gorditas, rice, beans, and pico, and you can't go wrong with the barbacoa as the filling! One day, I will try the shrimp cocktail but it's out of my paygrade. tl;dr screw Taco Bell

The food wasn't impressive at all. As someone who was born and raised in San Diego I can tell you that this doesn't even come close to real SD Mexican food. My expectations weren't high, but if you're gonna have San Diego in your restaurant name you better be able to prove it. I ordered Carne Asada Fries which is a San Diego staple of a food. The fries, cheese, guac, and salsa were pretty good but the meat you guys used was just so bad. It honestly didn't taste like carne asada. I'm not trying to be rude or anything but it honestly tasted like ground beef. I had to throw it out halfway through and eat a bagel to clean my pallet. Sorry Texas, but stick to bbq.

I ordered two Gorditas, they were ok not good and not necessarily bad. I wouldn't say it's authentic Mexican food but I guess the is the type of food you get in Cali? Would I voluntarily go back, No.. would I turn down food from here, also no

Umm ok. If you know anything about San Diego taco shops, this ones title is definitely living up to its namesake. So good! Reminds me of the times we used to have late night food runs to Alberto's in San Diego after drunken nights. Rolled tacos, great rice and beans and perfect carne asada (my fav) It's also very cheap and reasonably priced. It may be a cash only spot. Enjoy

Girl who took our order needs to smile more and at least pretend she like her job. I got #28. Tacos were Ok. Tacos has lots more filling than some places. Dining room was dirty. I never notice that about restaurants but no tables had been wiped down recently. On table was piled up with the trash that someone didn't clean up after themselves. If the dining room is dirty, what does the kitchen that I can't see look like? The above review is still the same except #8 this time. Again, it was just OK. The tables are not properly wiped down and the floor, which had just been swept wasn't as clean as you'd expect. I know it has just. Even swept because the broom and a pile of stuff was right by the checkout spot. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you.

Can I give this more stars! Lived in San Diego for over 30 years. Moved to Dallas 4 years ago and have been looking for a real burrito. No rice no beans no lettuce. Just meat, pico and guacamole. Holy crap this was amazing. Just what I was looking for. Can't wait to try more

This taco shop is very close to me, so I come here often. It is super affordable and has great tacos! They are authentic tacos and you can add or make them however you'd like. They also have other options and plates such as chimichangas, enchiladas, flautas, etc. I have been inside a couple of times and the seating is a bit crowded. The drive through also take a little time to get through because they make everything fresh and customize your order to your preference. I love that you get so much food for your money. I have tried all the different tacos but the chicken tacos with pico are my favorite. They have Carne Asada Fries which is fries topped with different toppings of your choice. They are delicious. The only downside is that sometimes the meat can be very dry. I have experienced this about 5 out of the 15 times that I've been here. Most of the time the tacos are perfect but sometimes they can be a little dry. I'm not sure if this depends on the time you go or if it's just the way they cook it at times.

Horrible. People have no idea how to run a business. Employee wanted to argue over a to-go cup of water and wouldn't give me one after I bought food from them. Not very intelligent.

If you're from the southwest coast then you know the difference between flautas and rolled tacos...or how about the fact that beans, rice and lettuce don't belong in a California burrito! I love Texas but they do not know the love we have for these types of taco shops. I visit at least once a month to get my fix. I love them!

I had the #15 combo carne asada burrito. Nothing special - doubt I'll ever eat here again. Food was good size portion for 7$ but some meat was super hard to chew. The rice and beans were flavorless. I expected a better meal. I love taco shops and eat tacos and Mexican food every week. Maybe this was just a bad day. Orchata was very good and the best part of the meal.

The Food and service were fantastic definitely recommend and for a great price. Love it all especially the red sauce.

Finally! Yes, finally, after living in DFW for nearly a year, I have found Mexican food that I can call authentic and delicious. This place is fantastic!! I spent the last 10 years in LA, frequently visiting Mexican restaurants, Taco Trucks, and of course, home cooked Mexican dishes. And I'm not giving this place 5 stars because I'm so thankful to have finally found one of my new favorite places in DFW, I'm giving it 5 stars because it can hold its own, and I would frequently visit this place even if it was in LA. Pros: Did I mention delicious? Fairly priced. Fast. Convenient. Right off the 183. **Please note, this place is NOT 'tex-mex.' It is not fuzzy's/taco bueno/taco bell. If you are in the mood for Tex-mex, then do not come here, that is not what you're going to find. That being said, IGNORE other yelpers who give this place poor reviews because it's not tex-mex. It's not trying to be. If I'm in the mood for a beer, and I walk into starbucks and they don't have it, I don't turn around and write a bad yelp review for starbucks. Use some common sense, yelpers. I digress. Do yourself a favor and go here.
