It was like walking through history. I enjoyed browsing the museum and learning about the historic pieces. It doesn’t take long to walk through the church, museum or gift shop. It was a unique experience for me since it was my first time viewing Adobe construction.

Google
Beautiful church! The smell, the peace and calmness that this chapel had is something I will take back with me to Kansas. So happy I got the opportunity to visit. What a historical gem for us Catholics!

Jess Z.

Google
The church is just beside the Old Town Plaza of Albuquerque. It's a smaller church but not short of solemnity. There's a gift shop beside the church full of religious items and artwork. I was totally fixated on the Santo Intiero image inside the church and the Mother Mary image inside a tree trunk outside the church.

Google
San Felipe de Neri is a beautiful early 18th century church in Old Town Albuquerque. The external courtyard is beautiful, but visitors can see the church interior by going through the gift shop. There is a small room behind the gift shop with artefacts from the original church and old photos. San Felipe de Neri doesn't charge for entry to the church, so please consider making a donation to help defray maintenance and operating costs.

Google
Beautiful church to look at. Built in 1706. Spoke to a volunteer that has attended the church for 60 years!

Google
I love this spot for peaceful meditation! Simple building in a beautiful setting!

Google
When l lived in NM, l would visit this church (even though l am not Catholic). It is both (a) beautiful; and (b) historic, as one of the oldest churches in America. Regrettably, the doors were locked on my last visit. Nevertheless, its exterior beauty still shines through...and it is a very tranquil church to see on the inside!

Google
We liked it all lot. It is a basilica and there is a lot of history there. We did get a chance to say some prayers and the church was so peaceful we really liked it.

Yelp
The church was started in 1706 under the Franciscan priest who came to Albuquerque with 30 families. It was originally called San Francisco Xavier by Don Francisco Cuervo y Valdez, by the founder of the city of Alburquerque and named it after the Viceroy of New Spain. The Duke of Alburquerque later changed it to San Felipe de Neri in honor of King Philip of Spain. In 1792 the original church collapsed, so the church standing here today was built the following year. With some additions over the following 150 years. This is a beautiful church. The visit to the old town wouldn't be complete without visit to the church. Love the adobe style! Very different!

Yelp
Old colonial church that has been in continuous use the for the past 200 years. The architecture, colors, and materials are indicative to the environment this church was born in and I loved the New Mexico vibe of the exterior. I loved the flowing adobe perimeter walls and bench outside. And there is a statue of Mary next to cactus and sandstone outside that feels so fitting for the location. Inside there is a small museum to start your visit. With historical pieces including the original organ. Be warned there is a bloody life sized statue of Jesus in a coffin when you first walk in. The chapel is humble and small, you can finish the visit quickly. The gift shop had some unique branded items, the most interesting thing we saw were religious paintings on what looked like cutting boards?

Yelp
This is a 300 year old church in Old Town with a lovely courtyard and they don't charge to walk through the museum and church. It is an active church with masses and a parish community with the mass schedule posted. Guests enter through the gift shop which was actually quite nice with what looked like some handmade items. The museum is small, but interesting with information on the construction and architecture as well as some artifacts. Just a heads up that if you have young children in your group the museum does feature a life size, fairly real looking life size post-crucifixion statue of Christ in a casket. The church interior is beautiful and definitely worth stopping in.

Yelp
The central statue in this church is San Felipe but the central figure of any Bible-based church should be Jesus and Jesus alone. For this reason I felt confused visiting this church and do not trust it.

Yelp
I stumbled across this church while strolling in old Albuquerque. It is a historic church that dates back to 1793. It is across from large gazebo and is surrounded by a bunch of eateries and gift shops. This is the second coming of the church. The original one was built in 1706, and collapsed in 1792 after years of deterioration. There is metered street parking and commercial lots within a reasonable walking distance to church. The church has a nice picturesque courtyard. It is popular for photo shoots, but you must get permission before taking professional pictures. The grounds are immaculate. They have a few benches around, including in front of the gift shop/museum to sit. The church has a large gift shop with a small museum in the back. The museum is free to visit and their was a man there that was giving visitors information about the church and actually walking them through the church. Yes, you can visit the church. The museum has an original bell from the church, an exhibit of how the walls are constructed, photos, and an original piano. The entire staff there was very friendly and helpful. The church is very well maintained, especially considering its age. You will find post cards, crosses, ceramic figurines, pictures, and other nick-knack that are spread across three areas. This was not a very long stop for me, I was there about 25 minutes, but I was still glad that I visited. And the fcat that it is free, makes it that much better. This is definitely a place worth checking out while in old Albuquerque.

Yelp
Beautiful church with nice gift shop. Michael in museum area was so fun and knowledgeable. A must stop when old town.

Yelp
300+ year old church in old town Albuquerque. Cobblestones and architecture typical of the timeperiod. No charge to see

Yelp
San Felipe de Neri Church was our first stop to look at and it is an old church that dates back to 1706. It says that it has been opened from that point and has never stopped since! That's pretty amazing and the church still looks quite new. The structure itself has been kept very well. Overall I just walked around the front and to the sides but didn't go inside the church. I did walk into the gift shop to see what they would be selling and it is mainly religious items for people that worship in this type of religion. I like to go to different religious places just to see how it is. There weren't that many people around and it was quite quiet. So overall no one is going to ever not let you go to a place, just come and visit even if you aren't practicing this religion. It's kind of eye-opening to see and pretty cool! A little bit of history that you can see and wonder how it was back in the day during 1706! Also, there is free parking all over this place and a lot of other stores that you can shop and visit which is across the street or even a few blocks away. All within walking distance.

Yelp
It's closed inside today. You can walk inside the grounds area. There's informational plaques all around the grounds are. I do like the integrated benches around the perimeter of the church walls.

Yelp
Beautiful church at the heart of Old Town! Of the many sites to see around here, this has the richest and longest history, and truly is the heart of the local community. They have many traditions celebrated each year in their beautiful Church, as well as a history museum and gift shop with knowledgeable staff. This is a great place to encounter Christ in beautiful Old Town. Make a stop!

Draven B.

Yelp
This church is blessed by the holy spirit. Despite being over 300 years old it is still very nice and pretty. It has a very nice exterior of the church that looks very well preserved. Amazing mass here.

Yelp
This church is beautiful. I love this historical church. The sign in front of the ugly Cramner table on the altar is funny...I think this problem could be solved if they put up altar rails. Also, remove the table and use the real altar.
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
Very old, very beautiful church that dates back to 1706 and is the oldest church in Albuquerque. According to the sign, it has continually served the community without interruption. It also says that we should enter the church with respect. And since I was carrying a concealed (and licensed and permitted) firearm, I decided that I would stick to the outside. Located in the Plaza in Old Town Albuquerque, it's worth the visit if only to look. And then head over to the Albuquerque Museum for some more great culture!

Yelp
This is a nice, quaint church in Old Town Albuquerque. Whether you're religious or not, this is great place to admire some good local art and architecture as well as get the chance to sit and reflect inside. I can see this as being a perfect spot for a wedding if you don't have an enormous wedding party.

James C.

Yelp
The church is beautiful, but this review is of the gift shop. The gift shop is large, has reasonable prices, and a wide selection of religious books and articles. Highly recommended.

Yelp
What a beauty! San Felipe de Neri Church is a not just a place of worship, but a legacy rich in history. I made a point to explore this church while I was in Old town during my short trip in Albuquerque. (pronounce it as alba- cookie, it'll help) If you're looking for some quiet in this historic buzzing district- Surrounded by souvenir shops, local food and culture. Come and sit here, take a deep breath and a moment of peace. It has a different architecture to it, something you'll not see in the common US. Styled accordingly with the Spanish colonial period, it also happens to be the oldest building in NM. - Do pay a visit.

Yelp
This is a peaceful and comforting church on the Plaza in Old Town Albuquerque. I love the spirituality that this House of God projects, both inside and out. Gayle and I wandered in and had a chance to talk with a member who volunteers to show visitors (Catholic and Non) around this classic historic Adobe church. I really enjoyed this guy's presence and his associated knowledge of the this Holy place. I also smiled when he kindly advised Gayle that it was never too late to return to the Church. That got me thinking about a verse in the book of Genesis (and expanded upon in a book by Rabbi Lawrence Kushner): God Was in This Place & I, i Did Not Know. Do Gayle and I each get an i?

Yelp
This is a historic Catholic Mission church and it is absolutely stunning. Coming from the Northeast we don't have any architecture like this back home and it was truly awesome to see a church built in this style in such a grand and appealing manner. Stroll the grounds, take pictures, go inside, say a prayer and just enjoy this magnificent church. Best part is that its entirely free.

Yelp
With its 5'-thick adobe walls, San Felipe de Neri church in Old Town Albuquerque is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the city, dating to the Spanish colonial period. It was built in 1793, replacing an older church (1706) which collapsed in the winter of 1792 and has been in continuous use for over 200 years. The church is famous for its twin towers, which were added during around 1861 to give it a more European appearance. San Felipe is beautiful inside, not ornate or pretentious at all. Built in a cruciform plan, the transept and crossings have a raised ceiling and the wooden altar and pulpit are painted to look the marble. The carved corbels are original, dating to the 18th century. The exterior is more Gothic Revival than adobe mission and there are elements of other architectural styles throughout - and it all works together beautifully. If you are going to Old Town, take a few minutes and step inside this beautiful church. Be sure to check out the gift shop next to the church. They have a wonderful selection of religious items reasonably priced.

Yelp
We love to visit local churches when we travel. When we saw this church we had to go see it. Dating back to the 1700's this is the oldest church in Albuquerque. We were able to go inside and spend some time reflecting on the events of yesterday and it is a very peaceful place. The inside is just beautiful and the altar is magnificent. If you like to visit old historic churches be sure to see this one.

Yelp
I really love visiting old churches and immersing myself in their beauty so I knew I had to check out San Felipe de Neri church. This church dates back to the 1700s and is the oldest church in ABQ. The architecture is beautiful with its old Spanish style. This church is still in operation but you can visit the church grounds and even go inside the church when their not having a mass. The inside is really a beauty and being in this sacred and historic space is truly a serene experience. The church is located in the Plaza in Old Albuquerque.

Yelp
Beautiful place. The artwork is amazing and the building is stunning. You do not have to be religious to enjoy the architecture and the history of this place. Keep in mind this is a working Catholic church so there are masses that occur throughout the day. Still worth going to, or even just enjoy from across the plaza.

Yelp
I went into this church on Mother's Day with my little service dog. I was sitting there in about the 6th row saying my prayers. A parishioner across from me on the other side turned and stared me down with the meanest intimidating stare. He then ran to the priest and they both approached me and ordered me to leave immediately. It was harsh and cruel. I'll never step foot in there again.

Yelp
As a Californian by way of both Los Angeles and San Diego, I have a lot of love for historic Spanish Catholic churches and definitely enjoy the fact that most still function as authentic houses of worship. San Felipe de Neri is no exception, and the 1706 church has an amiable counterpart in San Diego--The Church of the Immaculate Conception, also in that city's "Old Town" district. The grounds are beautiful, the clergy very friendly, and the mass was personable, accessible and warmly inviting--it was also in ENglish with parts in Spanish (awesome). Beautiful church, beautiful service, beautiful time.

Yelp
This is a very worthwhile place to visit. Built in 1707, well preserved. Visit Old Town for this and avoid the restaurants and china import shops. The area is mostly a tourist trap. Save your $$ and stay out of the phony souveneir stores.
google avatar

Yelp
The most beautiful church located in Old Town Albuquerque. Built in 1706 out of old adobe. Christmas mass is traditional New Mexican with posadas and a live mangier.

Yelp
One of the best historic Catholic churches I ever had the pleasure of walking in. Its Southwest Mexican tile and colorful religious art makes the self-hatred imposed by the Vatican almost completely diminish. Great architecture. I was a big fan of the patio outside complete with quaint bird fountain and cast iron benches.

Yelp
This review is for the San Felipe de Neri Gift Shop. The gift shop is located just next to the beautiful San Felipe de Neri Church in the old town of Albuquerque. The store is a must visit if you are visiting Albuquerque, since the entrance to the San Felipe de Neri Church Museum is via the gift shop. Although the size of the store looks small from the outside, inside the store there you can find various religious items, scapulars, crucifixes, souvenirs, church supplies, Pueblo as well as traditional religious artwork and many books from noted publishers such as TAN, Loreto, Preserving Catholic Publications, Ignatius, etc. A few treasures we found at this store were "The Wondrous Childhood of the Most Holy Mother of God" by St. John Eudes, "A Commentary on The Book of Psalms" by St. Robert Bellarmine as well as the "Historical Sketch of the Catholic Church in New Mexico" by the Very Reverend James H. Defouri. The store personnel were very helpful and knowledgeable. Checkout is very easy. The store hours are Monday through Friday: 9am - 4:30pm and on Saturday from 9am - 5pm. Free limited two hour parking is outside the Church courtyard. Will definitely stop by again if in the area. A small note: Although parking can become a bit difficult outside the Church, especially before and after Church Masses, there is ample paid parking (city/private) nearby. + In JMJ +

Yelp
We arrived too late for a tour but found plenty of enjoyment photographing the exterior of this historic church.

Yelp
I luved this church. This church was built in 1706. You can truly feel the Spirit of God as you walk through. The architecture, scuptures and furnishings allow you to remember how the Mexican/Spanish culture has influenced the southwest....

Yelp
Stopped by this church for a Sunday morning mass while passing through town. The stunning historical architecture provided for a beautiful place of worship. Of note, this church is so well frequented that it fills to the brim early on; I would be sure to get there 10 minutes before mass in order to ensure a seat. They do have several other rooms that serve as overflow for these occasions with an intercom/live tv broadcast. It is apparent that there is an obvious community feel within these walls, demonstrated by friendly hellos, a children's prayer/short homily, a thriving RCIA program, and an attached school. A beautiful courtyard awaits your exit from the church, with the closing song resonating from speakers. Definitely worth stopping by if you're visiting the area.

Yelp
The heart of Old Town Albuquerque. Literally. This is why Old Town exists and thrives today. Beautiful even on a scorching hot day. Doors are open for those wishing to enter.

Yelp
Such a beautiful church and such sacred grounds. I love going to this church to feel the Holy Spirit and grow closer to our Heavenly Father!!!

Yelp
We were in old town anyway, so you might as well poke your head in & have a look see. The exterior has that adobe curb appeal & is the oldest building in town. The wife light candles at every church we visit, but this didn't have candles the day we were there.

Andy J.

Yelp
Beautiful, very special building that puts me at peace every time I walk in.

Yelp
this joint be sellin' like a god church!!! jake pauler for life, dab on the haters! *epic*

Yelp
Not the most beautiful of the mission churches. Certainly nowhere near the historic or artistic quality of the churches in Santa Fe. But if you're in Albuquerque, you will go to the Old Town, and if you go to the Old Town, take a few minutes to pop in to this church.
