On the Grid : Crocker Galleria Farmer's Market

"Who said farmers’ markets are just for quaint neighborhoods on Sunday mornings? Every Thursday, FiDi gets a little taste of local offerings, everything from fruits/veggies and treats from Esther’s German Bakery, to truffles, olives, and smoked salmon jerky. With options like this right at the footsteps of FiDi, the Crocker Galleria's Farmers Market has your weekly grocery shopping nearly covered. What’s better? The bountiful free samples! But seriously — fresh air, fresher food, buzzing community supporting one another — there couldn’t be a better excuse to pop out of the office for a quick lap or two. Ok three — the cheese spot is worth another swing through. So skip the stodgy salad shops, your microwaveable freezer feast, and those overpriced ethnic eats, and check out Crocker the next time you need some noms. Bonus points if you make it a “walking meeting” with a coworker or 12." - outlier

I love coming to this farmer's market on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There are tons of vendors supplying fresh fruit, veggies, baked goods, roasted nuts, honey, etc. I highly recommend stopping by Esther's German Bakery for their Knusperstangen crunch sticks and the Bolani stand for their spinach and pumpkin breads and different spreads. Definitely sample the jalapeno jelly spread.

San Francisco, officially the City and County of San Francisco, is a cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California. San Francisco is the 16th most populous city in the United States, and the fourth most populous in California, with 881,549 residents as of 2019. San Francisco is one of the wealthiest and most expensive cities in America. San Francisco's high cost of living is due to its booming tech industry and proximity to Silicon Valley. The Bay Area could become even more expensive given the high number of tech companies expected to go public this year. A monthly income of $5,000 allows you to live in an average apartment and meet basic expenses each month while having money left over to save or use toward unexpected costs, such as car repairs or dental work. That amounts to $60,000 per year.

just a nice area. You're inside a open-ended mall and still not too crowded.

Yelp
Love this market. But beware of the Bread Nazi guy. Rude as heck. Why do I keep buying from his German bakery? Today's my last purchase ever. Every single time I've ordered from him he's totally rude to me when he's totally nice to other customers. Not sure what his problem is. I ordered Challah from there once. Wasn't good. Too dry. They don't call it Challah anyway, they use the German name with the word Challah in parentheses. Wouldn't matter if the bread and service were good. Hadn't been there in a couple years so I went today for a pretzel. I thought, Maybe the service has changed. Maybe the dude acting is nice now. Fat chance. I walk up to the booth and wait for him to finish with the previous customer. He's all friendly with them. As soon as he's done he looks right at me and says real stern, "What do you need?!" I tried to brush it off and smiled and said "I need that right there," pointing to a pretzel. Big smile, hope I could elicit some sort of common courtesy. Not happening. He says $2.50! Or whatever he price was. I give him the money. He curtly gives me my change and says "50¢." No smile, no thank you, have a nice day. No guten tag. Nothing. Nada. Nichts. Bread Nazi. It was a decent pretzel. I've had better though. It was definitely my last one from this guy. On the other hand the guy who sells dates is Awesome. Awesome dates, awesome variety, awesome service. Super friendly, down to earth. A real Bay Area type person. He'll let you sample new kinds of dates and give you tips on how to eat them etc. I recommend the one that are almost round and taste like butterscotch! They are so good!! And he takes plastic via the Square, so I bought a full pound. I've been buying them from him for an few years and they are delish! The rest of the markets pretty good. Awesome looking veggies. I used to be able to get some nice basil at a really good price. Haven't seen any lately but hopefully I will. Anyways good place to be on Thursdays in the FiDi.

Yelp
Mmmhh, those strawberries! Still daydreaming about those. Large berries, sweet, organic, inexpensive - I'm sold. I've been here a bunch of times, since it's close to the office and I even went as far as putting a weekly reminder in my calendar, so I don't miss out on this farmer's market. My favorites so far were said strawberries, but I also find myself stopping at Esther's German bakery a lot. I like their Laugengebäck, the huge pretzel buns especially. The pretzels are ok, but I found that they get stale pretty quickly. So you're probably better off buying one and enjoying it right on that day (preferably with a big layer of butter, don't judge me). Usually there are some samples available, so you can snack your way through lunchbreak. I always end up buying something though, this has definitely become a Thursday favorite.

Yelp
A good farmer's market Not the biggest market, but they pack a lot in the space. Good selection of items and enough space to move around. Worth dropping in on a Thursday.

Yelp
This is a great gem for locals that's tucked away in the Crocker Galleria. I like it because unlike the Ferry Plaza farmers market, this one is kind of only known to workers in the area. They have a great curation of high quality, reasonably priced foods. It's not as extensive as Ferry Plaza, of course, but it's also a whole lot cheaper. One stand, for example, sells three bunches of organic veggies for $5! That's kale salad prep for a week for me. Another one sells bolani, which is like Afghan flatbread. Delicious and it's 2 for $6 - a steal in SF. You can bake these and eat them with different chutneys. I love it. I come here every week for a stroll. I need to try the German bakery next though I've heard it's pricey.

Yelp
Since I take the bus into work, I had never thought about shopping for produce during my lunch hour. But now that I'm trying to get a little more plant-based, I have a little more motivation these days, plus I have this neat canvas bag I got for free from the Halal Guys at 53rd and 6th in Manhattan. So now I can carry produce and compete with all those elderly Chinese women with their flimsy pink bags. Oh yes, that last Chinese eggplant is MINE, old lady! I actually come here for the produce I never see at Safeway or even Whole Foods like Romanesco zucchini. Y'know, the big gray-green ones with the prominent ribbing and nutty taste. No inappropriate jokes please. I also come here to get at least a couple of bunches of Chinese long beans and those silky-firm white peaches. I have to say I have no problem filling up my Halal Guys bag with fresh goodies because the vendors here always have quality produce (see my photo gallery). It's worth coming just for the free samples but expect to get an elbow in the face from the more aggressive cheapskates. Nothing is ever free, is it? The market fits snugly into the ground floor of the Crocker Galleria every Thursday from 11AM to 3PM (plus Tuesdays during the summer). Come early if you want your pick of the freshest produce, but get your stinking hands off my Romanesco zucchini. That's mine!

Yelp
5 stars because Flour Chylde Bakery is here! Their staff are super friendly, warm, and welcoming but most of all, their BAKED GOODS ARE MOIST, DELICIOUS, and they offer GF & DF options!! HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST GF & DF BAKERIES IN TOWN! You must try for yourself!! They are also one of the only bakery vendors at farmer markets that OFFER FREE SAMPLES!! Their Pumpkin Cupcake with Mock 'Butter' Frosting is my absolute favorite! For only $5 it's one of the moistest cupcakes you'd ever had in your life!! Don't take my word for it; try it for yourself! They also offer an assortment of VEGAN options (not pictured here) such as their Apricot Breakfast Bar and Chocolate Devil's Food Cupcake. Their store front is at 850 Grant Ave. Novato, CA however, you can find them around the Bay Area at the following Farmers Markets: - Oakland Grand Lake (Saturday) - Sunnyvale Downtown (Saturday) - Davis (Saturday) - Campbell (Sunday) - SF Clement St. (Sunday) - Marin County (Sunday)

Yelp
The epitome of farmers markets. Stretching so far that you can't see the full array of what there is to purchase. I almost felt like I was inside a Dr. Seuss book because there were so many different items I've never seen before. Vendors featured are super kind and very passionate about their offerings. It's a great way to spend your lunch or day while supporting local businesses and artisans.

Yelp
This farmers' market placed in central financial district that is set up on Tuesdays and Thursdays, is really convenient to stock up on fresh local produce and explore different local flavors - ranging in freshly bottled apple juice, baked goods, salsa, cheese, Bolani bread with different kinds of spreads, canned olives and more! It's a tight knit spot and I enjoy taking a walk here while being on lunch from work! It gives me some insights on what veggies and fruits are in season!

Yelp
Every THURSDAY! Good selection of everything. Everything is super fresh, from fruits, veggies, nuts, dried fruits, cake, cookies, hummus and so on. A block from where I would. Convenient to get some cherries or anything during my lunch hour. And I always see someone unique that I never seen before. The vendors are friendly and they give out free SAMPLES. Yum!

Yelp
This is one of the best farmer's markets I have been to! It definitely ranks in the top five markets I've been to of all time, internationally. Despite the fact that they are a smaller farmer's market, there is wonderful variety and everything tastes fresh and fantastic. I don't live in San Francisco but love visiting farmer's markets to see what's locally made and here I was not disappointed at all. Everyone was happy to provide samples and everything was just -wow! I was enamored with all the hard-working farming families selling fruits, hippies selling artisanal cheese and nuns selling pastries, side-by-side. They all looked so happy to be there. We made off with: Herbie Curd, CMC Farms' red and green raisins, organic strawberries and oranges and I would have bought so much more had we lived locally or had more time to stuff our faces. Maybe it's because we were on vacation, maybe it's the California sun, maybe produce in Denver just sucks?? But the flavours of everything burst in our mouths and on more than one occasion we asked ourselves if maybe we forgot what ripe fruit taste like... Sad. If only I could go to this farmer's market every week!

Yelp
I am looking forward to each Thursday to go with my dear colleagues to do some shopping at this nice locale. What a cool way to spend your lunch break. I totally recommend to grab some fruits there and have some sweets and just browse all the stands having some samples. Everybody is super friendly and you can learn so much about the eating habits of the San Franciscans just observing what they shop. Also there is a kiosk of fresh flowers just attached to the market and is so pretty for pictures with a local flavor. The market extends outside, on the street, and is never too crowded that you can't walk. I love this farmers market and looking forward experiencing all the food and goodies brought to us weekly.

Yelp
My regular farmers market is the Heart of the City. This compared to that is overpriced and small. It has a few vendors and a small selection of fruits and breads. Being inside a shopping center it is nice coming here on raining days to avoid getting wet.
google avatar

Katherine R.

Yelp
Decent sized market with a wide variety of in-season product, bakery, canned goods, fish and more. Grab lunch on the top level and scope out the market while you eat to plan out where to go/what looks good. Lots of good, cheap lunch options. I like the vendors toward the edges. Customers can get a little intense about their organic produce in usual Bay Area style, amplified by the lunch hour rush ;)

Yelp
Who knew there was a Farmer's Market in FiDi every Thursday? Not me...until a few weeks ago! Vendors line the first floor of Crocker Galleria from end to end with organic produce to baked goods, bolani, tamales, chocolate, smoked seafood, etc. It's a great way to activate the space, but the aisles get a bit crowded at the peak lunch hours, so be prepared for that. If you don't feel like walking over to the Ferry Building, this is a great option.

Yelp
This farmer's market is actually one of my favorites in the city. I can count on Crocker Galleria Farmers Market for: 1.) Unbelievably fresh smoked salmon slabs from Coastside Farms 2.) Sweet delectable blackberries and perfectly red cherries from Cipponeri Family Farms 3.) Eggplant and Basil pesto from Bolani. 4.) Organic grapefruits. 5.) Organic spinach and sweet peas from Happy Boy The list goes on... The samples are lovely here - as are the vendors. Crocker Galleria's Farmer Market is definitely the highlight of my every Thursday. Trust.

Yelp
Thursday is a great day for many reasons, people. Why? Well, it's the day before Friday, the day after Wednesday which likely means you (I) are nursing a slight hangover from your weekly Stammtisch, or maybe not. Thursday is also payday for yours truly, so that's cool. But mainly, Thursday is the MUTHA EFFIN' Crocker Galleria Farmer's Market!! (Yes, it deserves both of those exclamation points, I checked). I love the Farmer's Market at Crocker so much it borderline hurts. I'm a serial sampler, and have really only ever bought maybe a piece of fruit or two, or a single veggie, but my main squeeze at the moment (and since the Farmer's Market sprouted in the Galleria almsot a year ago) is the Onion Cheese Bread from Esther's Bread. It is the bomb dot COM! It's $2.75, it's incredible, and it makes Thursday the second best day of the whole week.

Yelp
My 100th review! Gosh, I wasn't going to make a big deal out of it, but I realized that I should! Why not?! Yelp has given me a whole new reason to write again! Yay! And for this 100th review, I had to pick a 5 star place! Crocker Galleria's Farmers Market on Thursdays. Can I just say that I LOVE farmer markets?! Any country I go to, I love them. I love it all - the fresh fruits and vegetables all laid out. You can easily see what's in season right off the bat. I love all the samples available, I love the madness, and I love the possibilities of what your next meal could be. Crocker's market is a small one, but a good one. They have your fruits and veggies, cheese (who doesn't love cheese?), fresh bread (from Boulangerie on Pine too!), and other random things. They have live music while you shop and everyone there is happy! They are open from 11 am to 3 pm and are open year round. It's Thursday and I just came back from there. I'm happy.

Yelp
Ok this review is strictly for Bay Bread. They have a stall at the Thursday Farmer's Mkt in the Crocker Galleria (you can't miss them, they are in the center and have all that yummy pastries & breads on display). I purchased an almond croissant for $2.50 (that is cheaper than the ones sold in Anderson's Bakery in the mall). OMG, that croissant is so good. It's filled with almond paste (not at all skimpy like some bakeries) and topped with lots of chopped almonds on top. I nearly died and gone to heaven inhaling that croissant. They also sell other croissants (the lady next to me bought 2 chocolate chips & 2 almonds) and other sweet goodies. All reasonably priced. I will come back for more sweets!

Yelp
This farmers' market is run by the same folks who run the Mountain View and Marina markets. It's not as upscale as the Ferry Building market or quite so grungy as Alemany... for me, it strikes a nice balance between the two. It runs Thursdays from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, and has about 20 vendors each week. They're planning to run it at least through the summer. Prices were very competitive: Fruit is between $1.50 and $2 a pound; veggies top out at $2. In addition to what I bought -- tomatoes, beets, and mixed-color string beans-- I also saw fish, asian veggies, greens, berries, lots of tomatoes, corn, peas, cantaloupe, bread... a nice assortment of stuff. Pretty thin selection, though, compared to the Ferry Building's Tuesday market.
google avatar

Gary F.

Yelp
OK, people, it's fun to compare all the Farmers Markets I suppose -- but the operating principle is EAT LOCALLY. I can look down from my office through the glass ceiling of the Galleria and see the bright colors of the produce tables. For city living, that's as local as it gets. Don't miss: -- Apple Cider from the apple/peach/pear farmers on Sutter St. side. -- The biggest, plumpest raisins you've ever tasted from fruit guy on Post St. side. -- Fresh salsa picante from veggie guy near Post St. (he has chips, too)
google avatar

Ken G.

Yelp
A great, although upscale-priced , farmer's market. The produce and food items are amazing. During the summer, some of the sweetest fruit can be found here. Prepared foods such as salsa, smoked salmon and Afghan food may also be purchased here. They also have a couple of local bakeries who present some amazing breads and pastries. Probably because it's in the financial district, the prices are a bit high for a farmer's market, but since the quality is really good, you get what you pay for.
google avatar

Chean L.

Yelp
Interesting spot in the smack of SF Fidi on Thursdays. The produce seem very fresh and some are uniquely handmade. Definitely picturesque especially from the higher floors down. Checked in to Yelp but no strawberries coz the store manager is nowhere to be found. One less star for that.
google avatar

Maile N.

Yelp
I prefer this farmers market (Thursdays 11-3 but some stands start earlier) over the Ferry Building farmers market anyday as it is less crowded and always has everything I need. Whenever I get a chance to go to this farmers market, I spend on average about $15-20 and I walk out with armfuls of fruits and vegetables. Recently during one trip there, I picked up some: salad, white nectarines, zucchini, green beans, orange cherry tomatoes and organic strawberries all for $17. Oh and I usually buy one chocolate croissant - yum! I always have so much fun sampling fruits, hummus, salsa, etc. and enjoy the sights and smells of fresh produce.

Yelp
I love having a farmers market nestled in Crocker Galleria. It's perfect to pick up midweek groceries, buy a healthy lunch, or just browse around and pick at the yummy samples. I come here often for the soft giant pretzels. This vendor has been coming here as long as I can remember. I also am a fan of the cheese guy that sells cheese curds... yum! Also, the vendor with sweet treat is on point, especially the lemon coconut cake! My only complaint is the that while everything is seasonal and local, not much is organic. Can we get some more organic vendor here, please? But back to discussing the good... the selection is heavy on the fruits and veg with just a sprinkling of baked goods and dairy product, making it an ideal grocery shopping destination on Thursdays. Overall give this market a try because what's lovelier than shopping for fresh produce and dreaming of what to make with said purchases, all while strolling around a glass roofed galleria filled with light on your lunch hour?!?! Pure bliss.

Yelp
Website: http://www.facebook.com/SFfarmersmkt Organizer: California Farmer's Markets Association Season: Tue (June-September) & Thu (open all year) Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays 11am-3pm Last week this popular farmers market added Tuesday to their weekly schedule - only during the summer season, so you'll find a few other vendors. I'm sure that most busy office workers will appreciate this change. Perfect timing to enjoy some fresh blueberries, cherries, strawberries, etc. this season.

Yelp
Run around Crocker Galleria with GLEE and JOY every Thursday when the Farmer's Market comes to town. This one is year round, on the bottom (1st) level. It is covered so even on those miserable days you can still get your fresh produce fix. Place makes my life so much EASIER too. Can shop for the necessities of fruit and vegetables without a long trek (for me) to Whole Foods. I stopped purchasing that stuff from IGA, Cala, Safeway and the likes LONG ago. While you will not find a plethora of artisanal goods and good looking females here, this place is PERFECT for a quick in and out. Not to many stands to over burden your senses. Right amount to find some deals, purchase your stuff and flee. Usually end up with seasonal fruit: grapes, oranges and apples. Some salad fixings: bell peppers, salad and onions. And then you can treat yourself to some pastries. A great GERMAN oriented baker here. Tons of succulent sweets, and the line can get long for these on busy days. Best part is the BOLANI! An afghan flat bread stuffed with spinach, potatoes, lentil or pumpkin. These gentleman reel in the customers with their insistent samples and smooth voices. Food is delectable! Opt for the low carb spinach Bolani, and there is a choice of about six sauces. They will let you try any combination of sauces and Bolani. The Garlic Mint Cheese, Sun Dried Tomato Humus are toe curling. Back to eating....
google avatar

Gil S.

Yelp
My new favorite farmer's market. Once a week the rabble of sweet gentleman farmers loads up the pickups and panel vans and braves the Golden Gate Bridge to install kiosks of organic salad greens, honey, summer squashes and homemade meat pies on the narrow sidewalk between Versace and Barcelino, dental supplies and luggage. Elbow to elbow business suits on lunch break, jogging outfits, Hawaiian shirts, queue up for the register and talk to strangers over a deafening noise. Somebody is singing samba. The smell of rosemary is in the air. Once a weak, an architectural mistake embodying everything wrong with Mexico City (fake glitz, rude industrial design, boxy massing, impersonal open air arcade that looks like warehouse) flowers into everything right about Mexico City, or Rome, Paris, Hong Kong -- dense urban vitality, crushing waves of humanity, sophistication, in constraint there is liberation, culture sprouts in the concrete desert like the opportunistic weedscape after a shower. All this steps from BART, Muni, Union Square, the densest core of downtown. Lower priced and less pretentions than the Ferry Building and other larger markets. The crowd is beyond foodie, they're vegi-raptors, not those froufrou weekend ritualists. You never knew so many people lived here in San Francisco. On a hot summer day this place makes you grateful to be alive.
google avatar

Ken B.

Yelp
A big selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. Also you can buy dairy products, spices, meat and seafoods too. Of course sometimes it can be more expensive then in a store but in this place all products are organic. I really love this spot. Try be there every weekend.

Yelp
A little slice of happy in my work week; a little splash of color in the Financial District. A moment of zen: I admire the beauty of the fresh fruits and vegetables piled everywhere. Wonder fills me as I consider nature's genius and artistry. (I also have a blissed-out veggie moment where I have a deep sense that we were meant to eat these things, and not animals, but hey, moments of zen are intensely personal.) The live music echoes through the Galleria and sunlight spills in from both open ends and through the rooftop skylight. I feel my cares melt away during a 20-minute chair massage and then stop, really stop, and smell the flowers. I notice how people seem to smile more and talk to each other more in a farmer's market. I think Shakespeare said something like "One touch of nature makes the whole world kin" and I feel that in the market. I also feel a sense of gratitude for the beauty and abundance around me, and I feel lucky I live here. I bite into a fresh strawberry that night and think how sweet life can be.

Yelp
Every Thursday, my coworkers and I jump around in excitement because IT'S FARMERS MARKET DAY! IT'S FARMERS MARKET DAY! IT'S FARMERS MARKET DAY! Well, actually, since we live in San Francisco, I guess every day is Farmers Market Day, if you think about the ones at the Civic Center, the Ferry Building, the one in the Metreon, and all the other tiny little farmers markets in every nook and cranny within these 47 square miles. What's awesome about this particular farmers market? Here we goes: + Located in the FiDi, a good central spot for lots of folks who work in the area! Nice break from work! + Great open space! + Good, albeit smaller variety of fresh fruits and veggies! Definitely not as extensive as Ferry Building or Civic Center, but they have your standard fruits and veggies. + Not exactly cheap, but it can be cheaper than mainstream supermarkets, and a LOT fresher! This last week, I got a ginormous bundle of basil for $1, and it was the freshest I've ever had! + They also have breads, pastries, pasta noodles, quiches; quick little foods that you can pick up and CHOMPS for lunch, and it's cheaper than general FiDi options. Something different. Something delicious. And now for the best part: The Afghani food stands in the middle area of the farmers market OMGFTW!!! So, these super charming guys make these incredible dips, spreads, and flatbreads, and they force feed you samples. You'll be walking along, enjoying your day, when all of a sudden, 4 hands come at you, each with a different sample. You gratefully accept, and after you've eaten it, another 10 hands come at you, with 10 more samples. I love it. Plus, everything that I've tried from them has been effing DELICIOUS. GET IT. You can also find this particular stand at the Metreon every day. They're also super friendly and super generous with their samples. Anyway. Thursdays 11am - 3pm. Crocker Galleria Farmers Market Day. Sure to please!

Yelp
Gotta love a farmers market that comes to your work! It feels a titsch pricey, but it *is* right.there. Pop downstairs and get some of those yummy ravioli or a little pastry or some pretty Swiss Chard. Or go for organic strawberries or that yummy spread on that flat bread that they insist you sample. Mmmmmm.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this farmer's market! Its so convienent and gives me something to look forward to on Thursdays. I havent been for awhile and totally miss it. They have a good selection of veggies and fruits and they offer organic at a decent rate. They also have spots like pastry, jam, hummus, salmon vendors so theres always something to explore. I am particularily a fan of the salmon booth, the fisherman actually come and they can tell you all sorts of wild adventures of the sea while you taste its smoky goodness. I have yet to go to the ferry plaza farmer's market (too much of a walk for me) but this is a pretty decent one. It's small and friendly.
google avatar

Natasha S.

Yelp
Lucky for Bay Area-ers, we can get fresh and local fruits and veggies every day of the week thanks to all of the farmers markets that have sprouted up. I truly adore sampling all of the different seasonal varietals and varieties and relishing the array of different, at times new-found, flavors. Fav. Flavs. more recently, Angelcot (Berkeley Bowl / TJ), Arctic rose white nectarine, Crenshaw melon, black cherry tomatoes. This Market's interesting because of the almost surreal image of FiDi'ers who flock here, necks craning, eyes darting, fingers plucking, gobbling to get their share of the natural bounty of fruits and veggies. Non sequiturs, what's not to love?
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
When me and my friend used to do our walks, we would sometimes catch the Farmers Market. Try out their samples of delicious cherries or peaches. Then slowly draw oursleves inward and then be stuffed silly with Afghani flat bread covered variation of spreads from the Bolani stand or eye the mounds of apples and huge strawberries. Well I love it all. I don't care how small this Farmers Market is or how expensive, just go for the samples. Go and press your face up to the mock plastic window at the German bakery stand that sells sticky buns and chocolate crossaints. No one said you had to buy just do it college style and just appreciate the samples and calculate the next time you can come there and purchase a bag of fruit or vegetables. I ended today's run at the FM with a one bag of Spinach Bolani and a container of Sun-dried Tomato Hummus ($11 total), as well the large bag of kettlecorn (12oz/0.75lb) from Zuckerman's Farm for $3.50. Oooh happy day.

Yelp
Thursdays, I adore you, for the downtown farmers' market you bring me. For the best-priced, top quality heirloom tomatoes. For the zucchini blossoms ready for me to sautee or fry. For the best loaf of multi-grain bread. For my weekly organic raspberry treat. Oh Thursday downtown farmers' market, I don't care if you're tiny and crowded. Walking through the streets with my bag of golden beets, red beets, and yellow tomatoes makes me feel so European I can't stand it.

Yelp
I'm giving a 5 to the guys from Afghanistan 1 star for delicious food 1 star for letting me try everything they sell for free 1 star for the free things they put in my shopping bag 1 star for remembering my name and pretending to fight over who serves me. 1 star for the marriage proposal (sweetie, technically I'm still married, but it's nice to know someone loves me, big hugs to you : ) These guys deserve lots of business!

Yelp
What an amazing find! Walking to my thursday class through union square headed towards fidi I stumbled upon the farmers market @ the Galleria! LOVES! it. The vendors are so great (mad props to the afghanistan guys- free samples PLUS extra goodies in my bag after purchase? THANK YOU!) , the fresh produce is such a steal. My $15 stretches way far here and lasts me throughout the week. Not as much as civic center or Ferry building, but the quality and selection here is perfectly suitable. MUST HAVES: Fresh salsa, raviolis downstairs, HEIRLOOM tomatoes- come on! These are possibly some of the best I've ever had, spaghetti squash when in season (oooh mama!) Like everyone says- a bit cheaper than the ferry building, not as extensive but you will for sure find something to your liking. Come around 11:15-11:30 before it gets hectic.

Yelp
I really like this farmers market. It isn't much of a walk from work and there is a nice selection of veggies, fruit and miscellaneous items like sweets, dried fruits, smoked salmon, and nuts? It's the most convenient spot for me to get some grocery shopping in between work and the apartment.

Yelp
I can not eat mealy fruit. Shopping at the Farmers Market ensures this does not have to happen. I just returned, so I will tell you what I bought: tomatoes on the vine ($1.35) two jalapeno peppers ($.30) a loaf of bread from an aggressive German baker who sells a huge amount of breads to Google ($4.50) peaches and nectarines ($4.00) The narrow layout of the Galleria ensures that there will be crowds and you may even get a bit grumpy because there is a bunch of people in front of the strawberries, but be patient. You are paying pennies on the pound for this stuff (unless the price is actually marked otherwise, which it usually is). Sometimes I pretend that I'm in some seaport market and enjoy the spirit of hustling that some of the more vocal vendors do. However, when you go week after week, you become bored by them (notably the flatbread guy who "gives you a good deal" buy selling you three for two with a container of spread) and wish there was someone doing a corrupt three-card monte scheme or a rash of pickpockets. You can also buy almonds here.

Yelp
Unexpectedly ran across this farmer's market after a doctor's appointment when starving. Saw cheap berries, and wandered in the galleria for a plethora of free samples. I tried a super juicy piece of nectarine, a cherry and a gentleman selling spreads gave me two bites of a cilantro spread + hummus + a spinach flat bread the was amazing. "Stand there, I'm making you another bite." He handed me a second tiny spread-filled bite on a small square of waxed paper as I was swallowing my first bite down. They really push the samples on you here! I wish I could have bought something but was out of cash, and on my way back to work. And to get lunch. But! I will be back to buy some luscious looking berries and some of that cilantro spread that was spicy and awesome. I feel obliged after the hors d' oeuvres they provided me this sunny afternoon. P.S. Prices looked cheap. Okay, -ish. Cheapish.

Yelp
I have spinach bolani stuffed in my mouth as I was typing this. I head to Crocker Galleria only on Thursdays and for one thing only, ok maybe two. Other produces are more on the pricier side. --The Bolani and the Almond Croissant-- The Almond Croissant is filled with sliced almonds on top and not-too-sweet and creeeammmy almond filling, the second best almond croissant I ever had (the best is still Brioche's on Columbus.) And the Bolani At the Bolani stand, you see several Bolan-ese handing out free samples generously. "try this with the cream sauce we have..., and the cilantro with potato flatbread..., and this is with the spinach bread with lentil curry and cream sauce..., and this is with egg plant sauce..., and this is....." OMG, I love all of them but I can only eat so much.... So with the buy 4 get 1 free deal, I picked 2 bags of spinach flatbreads, their DELICIOUS sweet chili sauce, the lentil curry spread, and the garlic cheese cream spread. Next time I go, I'm going to get the cilantro spread. OMG sooo delicious.

Yelp
How did I get so lucky to have a farmer's market downstairs from my work? I work in the building adjacent to the Crocker Galleria and now I do most of my grocery shopping on Thursdays. A loaf of baked bread, a jar of Afghani sweet jalapeno jelly, some spring leeks, organic strawberries, grapefruit, snap peas, herbs, butter lettuce! It's like I died and went to produce heaven.

Yelp
I love Farmers Markets, & I'm so excited that I discovered this today. I work right across the street from Crocker Galleria, so this makes it convenient for me to stop by during my lunch hour to pick-up some fresh produce. Prices are reasonable--similar to the Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building & also comparable to prices of Chicago's Green Market (shocking that something out here would cost about the same in the midwest!). There aren't a ton of vendors, but they have all the basic seasonal staples--peaches, nectarines, berries, tomatoes, herbs, etc. Plus, the quality here is infinitely better than anything at Safeway.

Yelp
I love running over here on Thursday during my lunch break. I usually just pack a reusable bag to go and fill up on anything that looks good! The fruit selection is fantastic - and they'll give you tastes so you make sure you're getting the type you want. I get my medjool dates from here every month. BEST EVER. I also think the prices are good! I bring about $20 and usually fill up my large bag with produce, and still have cash left over.

Yelp
What would happen if the Embarcadero and Civic Center Farmer's Markets had a baby out of wedlock? It would look and smell like Crocker Galleria on a Thursday. Like mom (the Embarc), it's got quality seasonal produce that dares you to go home and begin cooking immediately. Like dad, it's budget friendly and will let you get away with more than you thought you could. Is it cheap? No. Is it a value? Totally. You probably won't feel like you're in heaven, but this garden of earthly delights might make you wonder what all the afterlife fuss is about.

Yelp
I've gone to this Farmer's Market a couple of times but on this most recent trip, Tuesday to be exact, I really went for the Strawberries! Thanks to Market's Facebook Page, I was able to see what they had coming in! I rallied a couple co-workers to walk with me, I only work on Market Street, super close! This Vendor took card via Square and Cash, and I grabbed a three pack of Organic Strawberries; they also had non-organic, and a few other berries but I was all about my strawberries! $10 for a 3 pack, pretty good pricing for Organic berries compared to some of the bigger markets (i.e. Safeway). I'll return again during the summer months, and maybe beyond. This is a twice weekly Market and perfect if you want to pick up some fresh produce. The only thing is, I take BART from the East Bay and I have to think how I'll get everything home, be sure you think about that. Bring your own reusable bags, my vendor gave me a plastic bag at no cost, but reusable bags tend to be sturdier on BART rides back to the East Bay.

Yelp
So I told my new co-worker about this Farmers Market, and today she said, "Want to go get some farmers?" Ah sure, why not! Seriously, besides the fruits and produce, this market has some young flirty farmers. It would be nice if they had been a bit more attractive. I don't know, I just can't stand dirty fingernails. Anyhoo... I like that it kinda keeps with the seasons. Who was it that said they had cherries in February? Ahem, I think it was March, mind you. But then again cherry season doesn't begin until June!! Yeah, that's why I said this market *kinda* keeps with the seasons. Personally, I think the price is a bit too steep for non-organic. The fruits usually go for $2/lb. And darn it, you can get the same fruits for half or even a third of the price in Chinatown. However, even I can't deny that the flavor is just so much better somehow. I like the boulangerie breads. And the [kinda cute] young bread dude. And today I thought he wasn't there. So I said to my friend, "Hm, maybe he called in sick. How dare he call in sick on a Thursday!" Just as I said that, he walked past us while pushing a cart. So I attempted to catch up and say hi, but then he walked up to a farmer girl and flirted with her. Ah well, what do you know. Bread dude is dating tomato girl.

Yelp
Love, love, love! It's been awhile since I've been here, but since it was such a sunny day today, I decided to come back and explore again. The prices are fair and there is plenty of selection and of course it varies from season to season. I used to come here during the summer months for the nectarines and peaches. So delish. Today I got 6 red/gold mix of yukon potatoes for about $2, 6 mandarin oranges for $2. Granted, maybe it is cheaper at the local grocers, but I'm doing my part by supporting local business and the produce is way fresher and organic. Since I've been here before for the last 2 years, I'm amazed at how the selection has grown beyond just produce. There's also breads, fresh pasta noodles, pasta sauces, smoked salmon, and my new discovery -- afghan flatbread! I sampled some of the Spinach Bolani with Cilantro Pesto dip and was sold. I got 2 huge flatbreads and a dipping sauce for $12. I really want to try the Pressed Apple Juice that I sampled. I would have bought some today, but had too much to carry already..I gotta start bringing my reusable grocery bags.. I'm about to go to town next week.
