This Italian Island Has the Glamour of Capri Without the Crowds

"San Montano Resort & Spa features ten pools perched high above the Mediterranean Sea, overlooking the city of Lacco Ameno, the San Montano beach, and the Mezzatorre Hotel. The decor combines Hermes wallpaper, local ceramics with a nautical vibe, and the large staff ensures impeccable service at every turn. The hotel offers a shuttle down to the Lacco Ameno town square, but with multiple restaurants, a sunset bar with live piano music, and pizza by the pool for lunch — why leave? For an extra special experience, book a suite which includes private access to the infinity pool exclusively reserved for these rooms." - Travel + Leisure Editors

San Montano Resort & SPA (Island of Ischia, Campania) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Around the other side of the Gulf of Naples from Capri is the larger island of Ischia, which may not benefit from the same proximity to the Amalfi Coast, but which is nevertheless a stunning destination in its own right, with similar views back to Naples and Vesuvius. San Montano Resort & Spa’s hilltop location makes the most of this situation, with the marina at Lacco Ameno in the foreground and the panorama of the bay in the background. It’s easily reachable by boat, and even easier by helicopter; there’s also a hydrofoil for pedestrians and a ferry for cars, both departing from Naples." - Tablet Hotels

We went to the San Montano Resort after traveling to 3 major cities in Italy. We were looking to relax before returning home, and this turned out to be the perfect place. The staff was attentive and friendly. There are a few people I would like to mention. Antonio at the pool was always there for whatever we needed. Also, we had a couple's massage booked by Antonietta and serviced by Grazia and Giovanni. One of the best, if not the best experiences we have had at a spa. The resort is a bit pricey, and the evening meal in the dining room was a little too fancy for us. We like good quality basic food. But this did not stop us from thoroughly enjoying our stay.

We had an amazing experience staying at San Montano! The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff are all so incredibly helpful and nice, and the food & drinks are delicious. We loved breakfast every morning, it was the perfect way to start each day! The staff were all very knowledgeable about helping us get to and from our activities each day and were extremely helpful in recommending restaurants on the island for dinners. The shuttle is really convenient, and the location is great for exploring Lacco Ameno and Forio. We have recommended this place to anyone traveling to Ischia and will continue to do so, we hope to visit again soon!

If you are considering booking a stay here-book it! From the minute we arrived we were blown away by the hospitality and kindness of the staff and the beauty of the resort. The breakfast spread that's included is the best we've ever seen and so delicious. Lunch and dinner were delicious as well. A few of the waiters at both of the restaurants really stood out, including Vincenzo and Benito at dinner. We had a drink and aperitivo at the sunset bar every night and the view is magical. The pools are beautiful and we never had issues getting chairs. The shuttle to the beach is very easy and the beach is also beautiful. They also provide a shuttle into the local town. If you're going to explore other parts of the island it can be a little bit of a drive and the taxis here aren't cheap but it's worth being a little further away to stay here.

Wow! This resort was amazing! From the moment we arrived in ischia, Marco and his amazing staff made it their mission to deliver the ultimate 5 star experience! Our room was spectacular with the most gorgeous sunrise views! The AC was consistent and the room was clean and well equipped. We had an amazing sunset drink upon arrival followed by a spectacular dinner at la veranda! We also had the most amazing spa treatment experience! I highly recommend the lemonato experience! Worth every penny, probably the best massage we’ve ever had! The location is up on a hill, which makes the views spectacular, it is easy to run down to town for dinner or shop, the shuttle drivers a friendly and super accommodating, they are always available! I don’t miss the pizza.. it was truly incredible! I can’t wait to return, honestly never wanted to leave!

We were upgraded to a newly renovated suite, so, I don't know if my review would be different if we had ended up in the room we booked. That said, this is a 5 start resort with service (and price) to match. Food and drink is roughly 2x what you spend on the rest of the island. There were helpful people at every turn. The on-demand shuttle down to the beach or town was flawless and we used it every day. The breakfast was phenomenal as was the lunch offerings. The sunset cocktail bar was phenomenal. We ate dinner in town as the night vibe wasn't really our thing. The spa area you can use even without a service is very nice. One major thing that would dissuade me from staying again - only the main pool was really warm. All the the other cliffside pools were essentially cold and nobody was in them. Maybe that is nice mid-summer, but first week of October it was a major disappointment.

San Montano Resort is truly a gem on Ischia. The location is stunning — perched high above the sea with sweeping views of the coastline and surrounded by beautifully maintained grounds. Everywhere you turn, there’s another corner of the property to enjoy, whether it’s the pools, the gardens, or the terraces overlooking the water.||||The service is outstanding, warm, and attentive, which really elevates the experience. A special mention to Gennaro, who went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. His professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail made a real difference and left us with wonderful memories.||||The food on the property is excellent at every meal — from the generous and fresh breakfast spreads, to relaxed yet refined lunches by the pool, and beautifully prepared dinners with stunning views. Dining here was a highlight throughout our stay.||||If you’re looking for a place that combines natural beauty, comfort, great food, and exceptional hospitality, San Montano Resort is an excellent choice.

We had a wonderful stay at this resort.||Myself and my wife have been traveling to the Amalfi coast for nearly 20 years, even getting married in Ravello 16 years ago. We love the region. We have visited ischia a few times on day trips but have always wanted to stay longer. ||We chose San Montano bay for my wife’s birthday because a friend of ours had their honeymoon there and recommended it. What a location, what views, almost 360!||From all the emails with the hotel to arrange some amazing treatments and dinners, to the welcome at the door, the upgrade to the infinity suite (totally spoiling us, how can we go back to the superior sea view, which itself has an outstanding view) the wonderful food, excellent facilities (multiple hot pools) but most especially, the hotel staff, from reception to the restaurant, the lovely accommodation ladies (hotel is really clean), the pool team and of course Antonietta and her team in the the spa (I highly recommend the couples Limonato treatment), the experience was 1st class. ||There are little details to be noticed everywhere... Its amazing.||We loved Lacco Ameno too!! Some great restaurants also down the town and the hotel provides a free schedule (2 mins) up and down all day!||We have found our new favorite place in Italy. |We will be back!!!

My husband and I spent a lot of time looking where we wanted to celebrate our honeymoon in Italy and we’re so happy we picked Ischia and San Montano. The pictures of Ischia do not do the beauty of the island any justice. We have both been to several places in Italy and Ischia is definitely our new favorite. As for San Montano, we have never experienced such a gracious, welcoming, and attentive staff as those at San Montano. Even if the hotel and grounds were not as beautiful as they are, the staff at San Montano would turn any hotel into a five star experience. That also applies to our new friend Kerri, who we were fortunate enough to meet at the sunset lounge one evening and have an INCREDIBLE dinner with at the restaurant. Kerri even reached out to some of her friends at San Montano who set up dinner reservations and a wine tasting. There is no doubt that it is a question of “when” we return to San Montano, not if. So on a cold February night, we’ll be thinking of our perfect honeymoon at San Montano to keep us warm.
