This Italian Island Has the Glamour of Capri Without the Crowds

"San Montano Resort & Spa features ten pools perched high above the Mediterranean Sea, overlooking the city of Lacco Ameno, the San Montano beach, and the Mezzatorre Hotel. The decor combines Hermes wallpaper, local ceramics with a nautical vibe, and the large staff ensures impeccable service at every turn. The hotel offers a shuttle down to the Lacco Ameno town square, but with multiple restaurants, a sunset bar with live piano music, and pizza by the pool for lunch — why leave? For an extra special experience, book a suite which includes private access to the infinity pool exclusively reserved for these rooms." - Travel + Leisure Editors

San Montano Resort & SPA (Island of Ischia, Campania) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Around the other side of the Gulf of Naples from Capri is the larger island of Ischia, which may not benefit from the same proximity to the Amalfi Coast, but which is nevertheless a stunning destination in its own right, with similar views back to Naples and Vesuvius. San Montano Resort & Spa’s hilltop location makes the most of this situation, with the marina at Lacco Ameno in the foreground and the panorama of the bay in the background. It’s easily reachable by boat, and even easier by helicopter; there’s also a hydrofoil for pedestrians and a ferry for cars, both departing from Naples." - Tablet Hotels

We spent three amazing days at San Montano Resort, and every moment was absolutely wonderful. Our room was perfect — spacious, beautifully maintained, and with a balcony overlooking the thermal pools and the breathtaking Bay of Naples. It was the kind of view you never get tired of. The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable, and we both slept so well every night.||||Breakfast each morning was an experience in itself. The selection was outstanding — from savory made-to-order egg dishes to flavorful Italian meats and cheeses, fresh fruit, and irresistible pastries. Everything was served in a dining area with a stunning panoramic view, and the service was top-notch. The staff were attentive, friendly, and always ready to help — it really set the tone for the day.||||The service throughout the resort was truly exceptional. The front desk team went above and beyond to make our stay seamless — from helping us make dinner reservations and arranging taxis to guiding us on how to use the complimentary shuttle to the nearby village. A special thank you to Francesco, who went out of his way to recommend a fantastic restaurant for our last night — a true hidden gem! He not only made the reservation but also arranged our transportation there and back, making the evening completely stress-free. He and his colleagues at the front desk truly exemplify first-class service.||||And I can’t say enough about the wonderful and relaxing thermal pools. With the plush terry-cloth robes and flip-flops provided by the resort, the experience was pure bliss — the perfect way to unwind and take in the incredible surroundings.||||San Montano Resort exceeded our expectations in every way — from the beautiful setting and relaxing atmosphere to the thoughtful touches and outstanding hospitality. We left feeling refreshed, grateful, and already looking forward to returning someday.

San Montano was absolutely amazing! This was our last place of our 2.5 week honeymoon and couldn't have asked for a better place. It was the best place end the trip; truly relaxing and taking it easy with the thermal pool. The rooms was beyond beautiful. We were graciously upgraded and omg the tile floor of our room was gorgeous. The breakfast was also top notch. Best one out of all the places we stayed. I would have given anything to leave a little later, just to have the breakfast again. The views of the place and thermal pools were unbelievable! If you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy the scenery, this is your spot.

One of my favourite hotels I have ever stayed at. It was magical. For some reason I didn't think I would love it, maybe because we tend to prefer smaller hotels, rather than resorts. But it has so much classical character, the staff are incredible, the food was beyond sensational, especially the breakfast.. wow with that view too! The free shuttle down to the beach was great (also one of the best beaches on the island). I can't wait to come back one day!

We were upgraded to a newly renovated suite, so, I don't know if my review would be different if we had ended up in the room we booked. That said, this is a 5 start resort with service (and price) to match. Food and drink is roughly 2x what you spend on the rest of the island. There were helpful people at every turn. The on-demand shuttle down to the beach or town was flawless and we used it every day. The breakfast was phenomenal as was the lunch offerings. The sunset cocktail bar was phenomenal. We ate dinner in town as the night vibe wasn't really our thing. The spa area you can use even without a service is very nice. One major thing that would dissuade me from staying again - only the main pool was really warm. All the the other cliffside pools were essentially cold and nobody was in them. Maybe that is nice mid-summer, but first week of October it was a major disappointment.

We went to the San Montano Resort after traveling to 3 major cities in Italy. We were looking to relax before returning home, and this turned out to be the perfect place. The staff was attentive and friendly. There are a few people I would like to mention. Antonio at the pool was always there for whatever we needed. Also, we had a couple's massage booked by Antonietta and serviced by Grazia and Giovanni. One of the best, if not the best experiences we have had at a spa. The resort is a bit pricey, and the evening meal in the dining room was a little too fancy for us. We like good quality basic food. But this did not stop us from thoroughly enjoying our stay.

The San Montano Resort and Spa has spectacular views of the ocean and surrounding island of Ischia. We had a garden view room which was nice but the bathroom was very tight. Our friends had showers that were the cheap prefab for a five star, expensive hotel. The service was good but not outstanding.|Our ferry from Ischia was cancelled due to high winds and we were having trouble trying to get to Ischia despite the concierge at our hotel in Sorrento doing his best to help us find a way there. When I called I was told we would be charged the full price for the stay even if we could not make it. They insisted the we should be able to get a ferry from Naples later on that day. It was a long and tiring day taking the train to Naples then finally getting a ferry. So do beware that if the weather is bad and you cannot make it to Ischia you will still be charged for your stay. |The other interesting thing was that when we went to the Sunset bar each evening the waiter kept making a point of letting us know that the tip was not included. We experienced this in Sorrento also at the 3 of the 4 restaurants we went to but never at the hotel or in Umbria. I guess it is because it is a more touristy area and they expect more. |The thermal spa was nice but the woman who ran it was very uptight and made us feel very uncomfortable for coming in without a reservation though we had been told earlier if the weather was good you generally did not need a reservation. There were not many people there but we were reminded a few times we had 30 minutes at first then finally 10 minutes. For a five star hotel I think they could be more in tune to the customer’s needs. |They did leave a bottle of water in the room each day which was a nice touch.|The breakfasts were fantastic.

We had an amazing experience staying at San Montano! The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff are all so incredibly helpful and nice, and the food & drinks are delicious. We loved breakfast every morning, it was the perfect way to start each day! The staff were all very knowledgeable about helping us get to and from our activities each day and were extremely helpful in recommending restaurants on the island for dinners. The shuttle is really convenient, and the location is great for exploring Lacco Ameno and Forio. We have recommended this place to anyone traveling to Ischia and will continue to do so, we hope to visit again soon!

This hotel exceeded all of my expectations! Every single staff member went above and beyond to help us with recommendations and make sure our stay was seamless. It’s not just the stunning property and service that makes this place special, it’s the staff and the island. This is one of my favorite hotels. The food and drinks were also incredible.Counting down the days until I return.
