This is one of the rare occasions where I feel that the large number of five star ratings are not justified for a property. I wish I had read the more nuanced lesser starred reviews as I wouldn't have stayed here if I had.||||Positives: the staff are exceptional. All kind, efficient and genuinely caring. Efficient taxi pick up service from the airport can be arranged. The property is a traditional colonial Spanish house which gives you a good feel for what living in Cartagena before independence was like. The breakfast is good with fruit, bread and a cooked egg dish made to order. I also liked that the hotel was a ten minute walk from the center of town opposite the city wall ramparts and therefore more quiet. ||||However, the property is very dark and the rooms especially so. If you want to read, there is really nowhere to do so unless you don't mind sitting in the sun on the rooftop. The rooms have no windows to let in natural light and the light wattage is very dim indeed. They even have candles you can light and the bulbs emit about as much light as a candle. Rooms are spacious but again the decor is dark. There are several maintenance issues (tiles, falling shower curtains) required especially in the bathroom. Plenty of hot water though. And the property is quiet so you can sleep well.||||WIFI is so so. No laundry service in house, but around the block is a 7 day laundry service that does a nice job. The tiny pool greets you when you step into the property, so it's not very comfortable to go for a soak with everyone in the dining area and coming into the hotel looking at you.||||I would not stay here again. Instead, I pick a more modern hotel with natural light and reading lights if staying in Cartagena again.
