This was our third time visiting, and this time we brought the whole family. What I love the most is how peaceful this place is. It's away from the busy Okoboji traffic, and the sunsets and sunrises are easy to enjoy from the beach or dock. We rented one cabin on the water and another down the way. The kids spent most of the day playing on the beach, on kayaks, or fishing on the property. The cabins are very mindful, very demure, and kitchens are well-stocked for your cooking needs. Bring your own towels, and bring extras! Cabins reminded me of my years camping at the ocean as a kid. They're clean, and most of them have that sweet 70s paneling reminiscent of my childhood. Chris, the maintenance guy is amazing. He helped unlock my car when I locked my keys in it. He's a true hero. C'ya next year, Sandbar!

Our daughter found this quirky unique little resort. Each cabin has its own personality. Great view of sunset over Spirit Lake. Family owned since 1905!

Rented cabin 1 for wife and myself. The cabin was clean with a good size referator. Could use a better airconditioner. Only cooled the cabin down a couple degrees cooler then the outside temp but did a great job in the evening. The staff was constantly cleaning the outside area and the swimming beach was well taken care of. The fish cleaning shack was well maintained and had everything need to clean your catch. They allowed us to unload the boat at a nearby public ramp and park in their trailer lot until check in time so that we could fish until then. You can rent a lift for your boat which was very convienent but there is no outlets to charge your batteries. You can park your boat close to shore and charge them at an outlet on the shoreline. Enjoyed so much booked another stay in Sept. Will probably make this a yearly visit. Staff are very friendly and will assist you with your needs.. Wifi was not very good but not really needed.

Members of my family lease a couple of lots for owned trailers. We stayed in one this past weekend. |The resort is the last one on the lake with rentable cabins, and complete with a full-functioning, well stocked general store (reasonable prices considering). There is an on-site fish cleaning station that is fully screened to keep the bugs out while cleaning the day's haul. Also included are provisions to freeze the guts, keeping bugs and smell down to a whisper. There is ample dock space for bringing your own boat, as well as rentals to keep your journey on the light side. The beach is nice too for cooling off. |On the fishing and boating side of visits, Big Spirit Lake is a known hot spot for producing good volumes of bullhead, perch, walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, and muskellunge; state records have been caught here as well. |The resort is family owned and managed and highly recommended. While we did not rent a cabin (mostly because they were all full), after meeting the manager, it should be noted that most after-hour rowdiness is kept to a minimum to preserve a quiet visit for all. If you can find a vacant time to rent a cabin during the ~6 months they're open, this is a fantastic place to visit!

Mold on the ceilings in the cabins. Gnats so think you can take a bite of the air and eat 20. The family that has cabins at the beach practically took over the beach leaving no room for others. We had to wait til we left to pay and when we wanted to leave they still weren't there. If you gomi recommend you bring your own knives because theirs in the cabins are dull. They do provide some cleaners, and things to keep the cabin tidy which i do like. Free wifi which is a plus. I just don't like to get sick, so the mold is where I draw the line.

Nice, friendly, laid-back resort with cute little cabins and permanent residents throughout. The kids had a blast swimming at the beach, which was right across from our cabins.

This resort is not fancy or elegant in any sense of the word. If you need that, go to Fillenwarth and you will be happy but you will pay 4 or 5 times as much.|| ||We had 9 people, 2 grandparets, mom and dad along with 5 boys ages 7 through 16. We rented cabin 6 and cabin 7. The cabins were clean and had everything we needed. We generated a lot of garbage and Chris was by every evening to empty cans and replace with clean liners. We also asked for a fire pit which was quickly provided. ||||The boys spent hours every day in the water or on the beach. Seaweed and water grasses were raked off the beach every morning. It was a quick trip to Arnolds Park for a full day trip. ||||We took two boats and got great fishing tips from Chris. We caught limits of smallmouth and walleye nearly every day. But that walleye slot (17-22 inch returned) is tough. It's really hard to release a 20 inch walleye!! ||||Claudette is running the resort and in her first year. She was so friendly, always available and had solutions to everything. ||We will be back next year.

This small resort is a great fishing hide out. It has ample dock space and is a clean, quiet, and well-stocked location for fishing at Spirit Lake. They have wood bundles for a reasonable price, lures, bait, and plenty of friendly advise on what to use for the day's fishing. The cabins are clean and have all the amenities you would want. Fishing from the dock is often successful. It is also a beautiful place to take photos.||Overall, this is a great place to go to get away from everyday hustle and bustle while catching fish!

Yelp
I have written dozens of reviews and I don't really know how to properly review Sandbar Beach Resort. It is not flashy or a 5 star resort or even 3 star in the modern sense. However what it does have it does extremely well. If you are looking for a deluxe resort then you should look somewhere else and be prepared to pay for it. This is the place if you are are on a small budget and just want to enjoy the wind, waves, beach, fishing or friendly people. Don't expect overstuffed chairs or writing desks or super fast wifi or pillow chocolates. But then, the price reflects that. Various members of our family have been staying at Sandbar for five generations and soon to be six. Why? Because we get all the basics that we require. There is a primative but totally functional fish cleaning station as well as boat lifts, grills and picnic tables and chairs. The cabins vary from 2 bed to 7 beds. All but a couple of the very smallest have full kitchens. Our late season (last week of Sept) group is a dozen or so fishermen who come from all over the midwest and gather to fish for perch and walleye to eat and smallmouth bass for sport. We make a July trip with grandparents and grandkids and stay at the cabins right on the beach. The beach is only 20 steps from the cabin doors...sand all the way. Only the weather can pause the fun. It is a short trip to Arnolds Amusement Park. There are many local restaurants that are excellent. Chris is always helpful and can solve any problem or knows someone who can. Very important when you are miles from home.
