7 Best Hotels in Reykjavik, Iceland (2025) | Condé Nast Traveler

"Tucked behind an easily missable door and courtyard on lively Laugavegur, this gem offers comfortable, understated rooms with Duxiana duvets, heated bathroom floors, Sóley Organic products, chic furniture, textured walls, and statement bulbous lights; the relaxed restaurant serves healthy, tasty food, and books by Nobel laureate Halldor Laxness are carefully displayed." - Becky Lucas

Sand Hotel (Reykjavik, Iceland) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sandhotel borrows its name from the neighboring Sandholt Bakery, a century-old Reykjavík institution, and also adjoins Guðsteinn Eyjólfsson’s Gentlemans’ Store, an equally venerable local tailor. It’s notable, obviously, for its ties to the local culture, including the author Halldor Laxness, who was born in one of its seven houses. For all that, it’s a remarkably forward-looking affair, and is easily one of the most stylish hotels — or perhaps establishments of any kind — in the Icelandic capital. There’s a bistro and bar on site, and a few of the city’s finest restaurants are right on this street." - Tablet Hotels

Excellent stay at this hotel for the week. We had the Queen size room which was comfortable for two. Good shower. We did ask for a fan to keep us cooler at night time even with the windows opened in late August. The breakfast was very useful, fresh, and tasty. This is in the heart of the very popular pedestrian area. So many souvenir shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars, and dessert spots all around. A few blocks from the famous Church and Rainbow street. So close! A few blocks down is the marina. You get excellent snapshot photos of it with buildings and cars if you walk just a few steps out of the hotel, on the corners. There is a walk from where the shuttle spot is to meet for tours and from the airport (we had to lug our heavy luggage up the steep streets to get to the hotel, but it was worth it), but there are so many taxis and taxi spots right out of the hotel as well if you wanted to use one. The hotel is very clean, the staff is friendly, the breakfast buffet is wonderful, it is close to the marina with many areas of interest including the music hall and many desired spots. Exceptional stay and highly recommend!

The staff was excellent, always smiled and said hello. The hotel was clean, breakfast was very good and it had a nice variety of healthy items. We loved the location as it was close to shopping and many, many restaurants as well. The rooms were clean and kept clean by the friendly staff. I give this hotel a 10+++

We loved the location of the hotel. Rooms were very clean, comfortable and well appointed. Staff was very helpful. We would stay at the hotel again. The breakfast provided by the hotel was very good and made it easy to get out and about to start our day.

Wonderful boutique hotel in the middle of the city. Front of the hotel is right on the main pedestrian only shopping street. The room is small but has all the amenities you need to have a comfortable stay. They also have a small gym. Nothing fancy but enough for a quick work out. The highlight is their continental breakfast. Their pastries are top notch (there is a pastry shop next door which I believe is connected to the hotel.) They don't have on site parking but you shouldn't have problem finding street parking spaces.

Best place to stay in town. Great for walking around downtown. Hotel staff were very friendly and went above and beyond. Hotel itself was very clean and quiet and absolutely amazing!! Breakfast in the morning was over the top, great variety and very good!! This will be my go to spot for staying in Iceland!!

My wife and I stayed for a night in September, 2025. The room was great, the staff was great, and the breakfast buffet was great - the whole experience exceeded our expectations. It's centrally located in the heart of Reykjavik. Parking was tricky only because I didn't properly prepare, but we ended up parking in a P3 lot near the Opera house - just a short walk away, and that worked out well. It's a short walk to many good restaurants, coffee shops, etc. I will definitely come here again on the next trip to Iceland.

We enjoyed our stay at this centrally located hotel, although the bedroom was quite basic and in need of a refresh, with chipped woodwork and few amenities. However, the shortcomings were made up for with a very comfortable bed and the great location! The hotel does not have parking but local on-street parking was fine once we got used to the system!

Myself and my daughter visited Iceland as part of her 16th birthday Celebrations to try and see the northern light.||We booked with a holiday provider not the hotel directly ( won’t be doing that again!)||By the time we arrived after hours of hassle due to our transfer not being booked properly and had been travelling from 2am we were exhausted.||Arrived only to find we hadn’t been given an early check in option (again, by the holiday provider not the hotel).||We were shattered and close to tears with the thought of having to wait nearly 4 hours to get into our room.||I explained we didn’t know and the fact it was to celebrate a birthday came up.||I wish I took the name of the man who was on reception because he went into full “fix” mode.||Within 10 minutes he had checked us in, ensured the room was accessible and ready and not only checked us in but waved the early check in fee for a birthday gift.||The hotel is beautiful! The breakfasts are amazing and the location couldn’t have been better.||Will definitely be back and wouldn’t stay anywhere else!! ||Thank you
