7 Best Hotels in Reykjavik, Iceland (2025) | Condé Nast Traveler

"Tucked behind an easily missable door and courtyard on lively Laugavegur, this gem offers comfortable, understated rooms with Duxiana duvets, heated bathroom floors, Sóley Organic products, chic furniture, textured walls, and statement bulbous lights; the relaxed restaurant serves healthy, tasty food, and books by Nobel laureate Halldor Laxness are carefully displayed." - Becky Lucas

Sand Hotel (Reykjavik, Iceland) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sandhotel borrows its name from the neighboring Sandholt Bakery, a century-old Reykjavík institution, and also adjoins Guðsteinn Eyjólfsson’s Gentlemans’ Store, an equally venerable local tailor. It’s notable, obviously, for its ties to the local culture, including the author Halldor Laxness, who was born in one of its seven houses. For all that, it’s a remarkably forward-looking affair, and is easily one of the most stylish hotels — or perhaps establishments of any kind — in the Icelandic capital. There’s a bistro and bar on site, and a few of the city’s finest restaurants are right on this street." - Tablet Hotels

The Sands provided everything we needed for a wonderful stay in Reykjavik. The rooms were fresh and clean. The beds were gloriously comfortable! We slept so well. Loved that they provided the option for a very early check-in with breakfast as our flight got in at 7am. The breakfast was something my daughter and I looked forward to each morning. Great coffee, lox, charcuterie, freshly baked breads w/ variety of spreads, fresh fruit, local yogurt and more. The staff was attentive and helpful. Highly recommend a stay at the Sands.

Lovely few days. Hotel was perfect. Great location right in the heart. Our rooms were warm, clean and spacious. Beds were so comfy! Breakfast was lovely and their happy hour was really reasonable for Iceland for drinks before heading out for a meal.

Sand is a small, smart hotel tight in the middle of Laugarvegur. It was perfect as a base for my friend and I, on our long weekend gitls' catchup. The location was excellent for exploring 101 and only a 5 min walk down to the bus stop for excursion pickups. The beds were like clouds, the shower was awesome and the breakfast was delicious. Takk fyrir okkur.

Excellent stay at this hotel for the week. We had the Queen size room which was comfortable for two. Good shower. We did ask for a fan to keep us cooler at night time even with the windows opened in late August. The breakfast was very useful, fresh, and tasty. This is in the heart of the very popular pedestrian area. So many souvenir shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars, and dessert spots all around. A few blocks from the famous Church and Rainbow street. So close! A few blocks down is the marina. You get excellent snapshot photos of it with buildings and cars if you walk just a few steps out of the hotel, on the corners. There is a walk from where the shuttle spot is to meet for tours and from the airport (we had to lug our heavy luggage up the steep streets to get to the hotel, but it was worth it), but there are so many taxis and taxi spots right out of the hotel as well if you wanted to use one. The hotel is very clean, the staff is friendly, the breakfast buffet is wonderful, it is close to the marina with many areas of interest including the music hall and many desired spots. Exceptional stay and highly recommend!

Wonderful boutique hotel in the middle of the city. Front of the hotel is right on the main pedestrian only shopping street. The room is small but has all the amenities you need to have a comfortable stay. They also have a small gym. Nothing fancy but enough for a quick work out. The highlight is their continental breakfast. Their pastries are top notch (there is a pastry shop next door which I believe is connected to the hotel.) They don't have on site parking but you shouldn't have problem finding street parking spaces.

The hotel is located in a part of the town that is not accessible by car. So, you will need to bring your luggage to the hotel. This can be difficult when the weather is good, and treacherous when it is bad. That said, the hotel itself is nice. The beds are very comfortable. The rooms do feel small at points. But all in all, I would stay here again!

My wife and I stayed for a night in September, 2025. The room was great, the staff was great, and the breakfast buffet was great - the whole experience exceeded our expectations. It's centrally located in the heart of Reykjavik. Parking was tricky only because I didn't properly prepare, but we ended up parking in a P3 lot near the Opera house - just a short walk away, and that worked out well. It's a short walk to many good restaurants, coffee shops, etc. I will definitely come here again on the next trip to Iceland.

Beautiful hotel in very central location, nice staff, and very importantly, a wonderful breakfast buffet with lots of delicious choices. Parenthetically, the bakery next door releases through much of the day the most tempting smells from freshly evolving goods. PS: Parking is a challenge.
