Sand Hotel (Reykjavik, Iceland) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sandhotel borrows its name from the neighboring Sandholt Bakery, a century-old Reykjavík institution, and also adjoins Guðsteinn Eyjólfsson’s Gentlemans’ Store, an equally venerable local tailor. It’s notable, obviously, for its ties to the local culture, including the author Halldor Laxness, who was born in one of its seven houses. For all that, it’s a remarkably forward-looking affair, and is easily one of the most stylish hotels — or perhaps establishments of any kind — in the Icelandic capital. There’s a bistro and bar on site, and a few of the city’s finest restaurants are right on this street." - Tablet Hotels

Excellent stay at this hotel for the week. We had the Queen size room which was comfortable for two. Good shower. We did ask for a fan to keep us cooler at night time even with the windows opened in late August. The breakfast was very useful, fresh, and tasty. This is in the heart of the very popular pedestrian area. So many souvenir shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars, and dessert spots all around. A few blocks from the famous Church and Rainbow street. So close! A few blocks down is the marina. You get excellent snapshot photos of it with buildings and cars if you walk just a few steps out of the hotel, on the corners. There is a walk from where the shuttle spot is to meet for tours and from the airport (we had to lug our heavy luggage up the steep streets to get to the hotel, but it was worth it), but there are so many taxis and taxi spots right out of the hotel as well if you wanted to use one. The hotel is very clean, the staff is friendly, the breakfast buffet is wonderful, it is close to the marina with many areas of interest including the music hall and many desired spots. Exceptional stay and highly recommend!

Wonderful boutique hotel in the middle of the city. Front of the hotel is right on the main pedestrian only shopping street. The room is small but has all the amenities you need to have a comfortable stay. They also have a small gym. Nothing fancy but enough for a quick work out. The highlight is their continental breakfast. Their pastries are top notch (there is a pastry shop next door which I believe is connected to the hotel.) They don't have on site parking but you shouldn't have problem finding street parking spaces.

Room was very cramped, even for one person, which impacted my comfort. That said, it was clean and ||modernly decorated. Room was a bit warm so they provided me with a fan. No air condition in rooms. The property itself is charming but could use some paint touch-ups. I missed breakfast both days, but the location is perfect — close to bakeries like Sandholt and within easy walking distance of tourist sites and beautiful waterfront views.

My family and I stayed at various hotels throughout iceland during our Ring Road trip, and this was by far our favourite hotel. The breakfast was phenomenal and the friendliness of all staff made us feel very welcome. our room was clean and large (for Iceland) and we will definitely be staying here again. Location is prime.

The Sand Hotel is located on the main pedestrian street (though on a very commercial section), so it's an excellent location for exploring the city center on foot. For those arriving by car, there's a back entrance that's convenient for unloading luggage and then finding parking on nearby streets or in a few parking areas a short distance away (always for a fee). The hotel is comfortable. Our room was a Standard Double Room, and it was nice and well-equipped, although very small. The breakfast was high quality, though with little variety (and if you want a coffee different from the caraffe one, you have to pay for it, which is not super nice).

I use this hotel for decades once a year for my business trips. ||Super location, stylish rooms, comfortable beds.||Unfortunately, the service is lacking the once extraordinary quality. The front desk was not really helpful when I waited more than 40 minutes for a taxi to bring me to my meetings. ||Although I had breakfast included coffee specialties at are now separately charged. This was included in previous years. Slice by slice some amenities are being taken while the prices are up every year.

Spent last night there . Location , good , with walking distance to all attraction. Rooms are really small , but modern . Breakfast was decent , you will find something to eat :-). For me bed was too soft and that plastic sheet on it makes you sweaty during night . Second thing , there has to be somewhere a club because during late night you can hear disco music . It is not that loud but if have light sleep you will hear it .

We loved this place. We went for my daughters birthday in March. Now, there is NO PARKING but my husband found a garage nearby and it's not a terrible walk. We pulled in the back to unload the car and check in. Beds were very comfy. The shower will get water everywhere but I put extra towels down and not a big deal. If you like your shower extra hot make sure you ask how to "unlock" the temp. Service was top notch. My daughter got sick at the end of the trip and spiked a fever in the middle of the night. Liam was kind enough to give us some ibuprofen otherwise we would have had to schlep a very sick child all the way to hospital. Pharmacies aren't open in the middle of the night. I will always be grateful for that. We had a great stay.
