7 Best Hotels in Reykjavik, Iceland (2025) | Condé Nast Traveler

"Tucked behind an easily missable door and courtyard on lively Laugavegur, this gem offers comfortable, understated rooms with Duxiana duvets, heated bathroom floors, Sóley Organic products, chic furniture, textured walls, and statement bulbous lights; the relaxed restaurant serves healthy, tasty food, and books by Nobel laureate Halldor Laxness are carefully displayed." - Becky Lucas

Sand Hotel (Reykjavik, Iceland) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sandhotel borrows its name from the neighboring Sandholt Bakery, a century-old Reykjavík institution, and also adjoins Guðsteinn Eyjólfsson’s Gentlemans’ Store, an equally venerable local tailor. It’s notable, obviously, for its ties to the local culture, including the author Halldor Laxness, who was born in one of its seven houses. For all that, it’s a remarkably forward-looking affair, and is easily one of the most stylish hotels — or perhaps establishments of any kind — in the Icelandic capital. There’s a bistro and bar on site, and a few of the city’s finest restaurants are right on this street." - Tablet Hotels

The room itself was comfortable, clean, and cozy. Front-desk service was incredibly helpful and guided us in finding some local record stores. Breakfast was simple, but had plenty of options to fill us up for our busy day ahead. I love how this hotel is located right in the middle of downtown Reykjavik, but unfortunately it is not conveniently close to any good parking. We had to walk about ten minutes through the city with our luggage, but I guess that was somewhat expected. However, for me...as long as the beds are good to sleep in, I'm happy. Great start to our Iceland trip!

Perfect. Centrally located in the middle of Reykjavík. The hotel is beautifully designed and clean. Breakfast is top. If they don’t have something, it’s probably because you failed to see it yourself. What a amazing servicd of the Roemanian ladies working at breakfast!!! Beds are good, and the water pressure is the best I’ve ever had. What a pleasure to shower here.

Excellent stay at this hotel for the week. We had the Queen size room which was comfortable for two. Good shower. We did ask for a fan to keep us cooler at night time even with the windows opened in late August. The breakfast was very useful, fresh, and tasty. This is in the heart of the very popular pedestrian area. So many souvenir shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars, and dessert spots all around. A few blocks from the famous Church and Rainbow street. So close! A few blocks down is the marina. You get excellent snapshot photos of it with buildings and cars if you walk just a few steps out of the hotel, on the corners. There is a walk from where the shuttle spot is to meet for tours and from the airport (we had to lug our heavy luggage up the steep streets to get to the hotel, but it was worth it), but there are so many taxis and taxi spots right out of the hotel as well if you wanted to use one. The hotel is very clean, the staff is friendly, the breakfast buffet is wonderful, it is close to the marina with many areas of interest including the music hall and many desired spots. Exceptional stay and highly recommend!

Had a nice stay at the hotel for 3 nights. The location is perfect. Hotel staff were lovely and helpful. We were in a room that faced out on to the main street so there was some noise but we were that tired from exploring the city so it didn’t keep us up. The breakfast didn’t have as wide spread a range as other hotels so we only had breakfast there one of the days. There was just a few things that could have made the stay a bit better. The beds were nice and soft but the pillows weren’t the best. They were that soft your head went right through them so you were pretty much lying your head on the mattress. Next was the heat of the room. The room was roasting. There was a heat/fan dial but we didn’t feel a difference when used and couldn’t seem to find anywhere that could be producing either hot or cold air to tell what we need to do to help make it cold. As mentioned we were facing out to the main road so opening a window would have made the room too nosy so it was pretty uncomfortable. Hanging hooks. The only storage available was one small open wardrobe when walking into the room. With the wet and windy weather it was the only place we could hang soaking jacket meaning we were unable to hang any of our clothes. In other hotel we stay at during our time in Iceland they had hanging hooks dotted about the room. I think it would be a great idea to have a few added in rooms here. Other than this the stay was lovely.

Wonderful boutique hotel in the middle of the city. Front of the hotel is right on the main pedestrian only shopping street. The room is small but has all the amenities you need to have a comfortable stay. They also have a small gym. Nothing fancy but enough for a quick work out. The highlight is their continental breakfast. Their pastries are top notch (there is a pastry shop next door which I believe is connected to the hotel.) They don't have on site parking but you shouldn't have problem finding street parking spaces.

My wife and I stayed for a night in September, 2025. The room was great, the staff was great, and the breakfast buffet was great - the whole experience exceeded our expectations. It's centrally located in the heart of Reykjavik. Parking was tricky only because I didn't properly prepare, but we ended up parking in a P3 lot near the Opera house - just a short walk away, and that worked out well. It's a short walk to many good restaurants, coffee shops, etc. I will definitely come here again on the next trip to Iceland.

Beautiful hotel in very central location, nice staff, and very importantly, a wonderful breakfast buffet with lots of delicious choices. Parenthetically, the bakery next door releases through much of the day the most tempting smells from freshly evolving goods. PS: Parking is a challenge.

The Sand Hotel is located on the main pedestrian street (though on a very commercial section), so it's an excellent location for exploring the city center on foot. For those arriving by car, there's a back entrance that's convenient for unloading luggage and then finding parking on nearby streets or in a few parking areas a short distance away (always for a fee). The hotel is comfortable. Our room was a Standard Double Room, and it was nice and well-equipped, although very small. The breakfast was high quality, though with little variety (and if you want a coffee different from the caraffe one, you have to pay for it, which is not super nice).
