My husband and I recently had the pleasure of spending an afternoon at the Sand Reckoner Tasting Room in Tucson. The sommelier, Katie, was very knowledgeable, lots of fun, and she had excellent suggestions for us. I would recommend Sand Reckoner to anyone visiting Tucson who would like to learn more about Arizona wines, to anyone who is planning a date or girl’s night, or really just to anyone who enjoys good wine. The tasting room is located in an old Quonset hut warehouse that has been masterfully repurposed. It is a very comfortable, relaxed environment. Our flights consisted of five tastings. We each had a flight, a glass, and we bought a bottle and we spent about a hundred dollars, including a twenty dollar tip. It was the best hundred dollars I’ve spent in a long time. I can’t wait to see what new wines Katie recommends next time we visit.

Google
What a great little wine tasting room in the Warehouse district! We stopped in for the Sand-Reckoner rose release party (2 new ones including a Grenache rose!) and also tasted a massive selection of their other Arizona wines - all grown, blended and bottled here in the higher elevation areas of AZ wine country. You can relax and taste at the bar or just grab a few bottles to take home (a great way to support the local wine economy!) If you like whites, be sure to try their Roussanne, Malvasia Bianca and Picpoul Blanc. Dry, fruity, crisp and delicious - and a welcome change from the same white wines we usually drink all summer. All of their reds are fantastic. We're huge fans!!

Google
What a neat place. Relatively new wine tasting room just off of the 4th Ave / 6th Ave popular hunts. We visited this place as part of an exchange with my chapter of Rotary Club here in Tucson, these guys didn't disappoint. They provided five wines for their tasting menu for us, and a delicious array of dried and fresh fruits, cured meats, cheeses, and spreads of multiple types. I have no problem saying I know next to nothing about wine, except for knowing what I like and what I don't. I'm not the kind of guy who looks at the price tag first; there are some days I am content with a two-buck chuck and others where I feel a little like splurging on something that compliments a decent home cooked ribeye steak. My wife and I liked a couple of their wines so much that even though I had never even tasted one of their selections before we ended up buying one bottle each of their signature wines: a 2016 malvasia bianca and a 2014 "2" (sagiovese mostly). Would definitely recommend for someone looking to support local vineyards.

Google
Very pleasantly surprised by the quality in these Arizona wines. Worth the visit - you're sure to find something you love here. Some really unique wines. The orange roussanne was one of my favorites.

Google
The girl that poured our wine was wonderful, very kind, and always checking if we needed another one of our tasting. The wine was good but was a little bit dry for our taste. Nice atmosphere, and the music was relaxing.

Google
Great tasting room. Great service. I tried several wines, and they were good. The rose his perfect summer wine. Wonderful that they are here (although sort of off the beaten path).

Google
Had a great experience here today with Sarah, one of the owners of the winery. It was my first experience with Arizona wine, I learned a lot and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Definitely make this place a regular stop, it's great.

Google
Not only is Sand Rekoner making some of the best wines in AZ, they are also being represented by some awesome employees. Kirsten helped us yesterday with our tasting, and she was well-informed, knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable. All of this amounted to a singular tasting experience that led to a number of purchases and left us more educated about Arizona wines. 6 stars out of 5.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our visit here! We tried 9 different wines between the 2 of us and didn't find any we didn't enjoy. The reds had a nice depth and the whites and rose were all very refreshing and not overly sweet. Lots of interesting tasting notes and our server was great about sharing more about each wine as she poured them. The tasting room is small but modern and very approachable - you don't feel like you need to dress up or be a wine connesoiur to be welcome. We joined their wine club based on this experience and are looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
Crystal was an exceptional host and the wine was deeeeeelicious! Thanks for the great service and the story behind the name.

Yelp
Never heard of them before doing a random search for "wineries in Tucson". We quickly became HUGE fans of the wine at our first tasting. Didn't find one we didn't like. Went home with a half case of our favorites which was about half their menu. Very attentive to customers, fun conversation, great people. Highly recommended!!!

Yelp
Wow! Such a nice tasting room! The place itself was very clean and had a really nice vibe. The owner was super friendly and the wines were incredible! We were able to pre-book a private tasting online and had the place to ourselves, which was really great and felt very safe. Tastings were $12 and for every two bottles you purchase, you get a tasting free. The owner did a good job picking the wines for us to taste and a truly enjoyed every single one. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is by far my favorite winery in AZ. There I've said it! Paige is my other fav but a little bit out of my way. I love all their varietals and most of all love the ambiance here. So crisp and clean! Glad you guys are here! Cheers!

Yelp
I love Arizona wine. I can't believe it took me this long to try Sand-Reckoner. In general, I recommend trying their wine and visiting the Sand-Reckoner Tasting Room. Our visit was early Friday evening, 8/3/18. I ordered the tasting, $12. With the tasting you can choose five different wines. I started out on the whites but quickly moved over to the reds. On this visit, I personally liked the reds better. There is a pretty large list so I will have to come back again to try more wine. I bought a bottle of the "X", a red blend. My tasting started off with a gentleman pouring. He was efficient, however, I really started enjoying myself when his colleague took over. I wish I had gotten her name-- the woman with the stylish purple glasses. I really enjoyed the information she shared with each pour. She also offered us a toy, for our young son to play with. They had the coolest set of colorful magnetic shapes. They stuck to front of the bar, two dimensionally or three dimensionally. My husband enjoyed them too. In addition to the tasting, I had a glass of wine. My husband had a soda (San Pellegrino) and some Spanish almonds. He said a couple of them were rancid but I finished them without incident. I loved the atmosphere and the live folk music. I appreciated the nice cloth napkins and trendy serving dishes. The architecture and the art are modern and interesting. At the time of our visit, there were a few couples and a small group of friends enjoying the tasting room. It wasn't loud or crowded. If you are looking for something calmer and more engaging than a bar then I would recommend a glass of wine (or a tasting) with a friend at Sand-Reckoner.

Yelp
What a fantastic spot! A coworker and I swung in before dinner around 8pm on a Friday evening. There was a lively jazz band playing as you walked in. The bar looked so pretty and I really enjoyed the decor inside. We each had a glass of wine and relaxed while listening to the smooth tunes. Our wines were both tasty! I would definitely recommend swinging by for a drink.

Yelp
Great tasting room. They offer a flight of 5 wines for 12 dollars. I did the whites. Hubby did the reds. All we tasted were very good. It was hard to decide what to purchase. Tasting room is light and open. Very welcoming. The hostess was very personable and extremely knowledgeable about the wines and the Tucson area. Gave us great recommendations for dinner. If you buy 2 bottles of wine the tasting fee is waived. We ended up getting 5 bottles.lol.

Yelp
This place is so fantastic! We stumbled upon this tasting room after the other tasting rooms in Tucson switched their tasting room hours without posting the changes on yelp. I'm so glad we switched our plans to go to Sand-Reckoner! The wines are all so wonderful! They are all so beautiful and unique! I didn't plan on buying bottles there, but purchased three bottles that day because I was so impressed with their wines! Also, their tasting room is gorgeous and intimate. It really was a wonderful surprise to enjoy such a wonderful spot in Tucson. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

Yelp
This has quickly become one of my favorite "bars" in Tucson. I prefer wine (over beer and cocktails) & this place does wine well and right. When we first moved to Arizona, we enjoyed a bottle of Sand-Reckoner while out to dinner in Bisbee - a rose. I could NOT believe how fabulous the Arizona wine was - and there truly is a great wine scene here in Arizona, with S-R being a real standout. The interior of the tasting room space is absolutely gorgeous and modern, with great art pieces to accent the walls. The wines themselves are delicious (and local!), and there's something for everyone - from a crisp & dry white to a deep & complex red. No syrupy sweet fruit wines here, and that's a good thing. You can do a tasting or purchase by the glass. I've really enjoyed chatting with the staff (Hi, Isabelle! I hope I'm spelling your name right! You're awesome!) every time and they sometimes even offer some live music and food truck action. Welcoming people, beautiful setting, amazing product. I LOVE SAND-RECKONER!

Yelp
Loved stopping in here for a tasting. Isabelle was super friendly and a really cool lady. The wine is what we're really here for, and it's a good thing that Sand-Reckoner has some of the best juice in the state. Lots of varieties that are interesting and delicious. It's a pretty cool space as well, with funky and unique artwork on the walls. They've got live music on the weekends too! A chill experience all around.

Yelp
Such a nice wine tasting room. Loved the live music and ambiance. Will definitely be back. We walked from here to 4th avenue and there were a few bars along the way, so a good location. You get 5 tasting for $12.

Love a private me time. Come out and taste the crispness of Arizona wine. Maybe a surprise of wonderful music too.

Yelp
Went here Friday with friends. This place is very modern and clean with nice decor. The owner is very nice and attentive. Good place to go with friends to chill, talk and drink wine.

Yelp
With Uber, it was a bit hard to find the first time, but once inside, it's a fun, clean new industrial vibe! The wine was very good, and our host was more than informative on their wines! We walked away with more than we had anticipated, but have enjoyed it to this day! Try them out, and you will enjoy!

Yelp
Tucson is full of surprises for us. I must admit I would not have chosen a Tasting Room to hang out in. We are most focused on food. However, our niece from N.Y. via Tucson did one of three gigs she had in Tucson while visiting family. Enough of the backdrop. The place is very classy with well appointed seating. We we able to enjoy Naomi sing her folksy melodies with her own songs and those from the past. She was exceptional and the whole Tasting Room was enjoying her. The ambiance here is fresh and very hip being once a warehouse I think. We got a lovely cheese board and samplers of 6 wines. Surprising us with some awesome varietals from Arizona's own wineries. The place was packed with friends and family of Naomi Vernon who delighted us with her songs from her heart. Great evening. Maybe they could add a little more tid bits to their menu.

Yelp
This is truly a great wine tasting experience, the vineyards which the wines come from, South eastern Arizona, Wilcox area, do not have a tasting room. So there you are. Orange was a tickler. First time I tasted an orange colored rustic wine any where any time. The red Syrah I tasted from small vineyard in Cochise county was a stand out. Only 50 cases are made a year at an elevation of 5000 feet. I signed up for the wine club and will have 6 free tastings and free invitation to wine events. Tana the wine stewardess was angelic. Don't miss this little and calming tasting room (with interesting art and paintings) near downtown Tucson!

Yelp
A group of us women gathered here for a nontraditional bridal shower and it was a blast! Sarah sent me the snack menu in advance and we were able to order some things. Friday nights there feature live music. It was a lot of fun and the wine is tasty too!

Yelp
Sand-Reckoner has arrived...in Tucson! Their tasting room's grand opening was today, February 18th, 2016 here in Tucson. It's located at 510 N. 7th Avenue, #170 in the "Tucson Warehouse Arts District." The vineyard itself is located on the Wilcox Bench at an elevation of 4,300 feet. The name, "Sand-Reckoner" means 'sand calculator.' The story of how Rob and Sarah Hammelman, the owners of the 12 acre farm that is their vineyard situated between the Dragoon and Chiricahua Mountains in Southeastern Arizona, just outside of Wilcox got into winemaking and what the unique name of their winery references, is on their website. It's a great read, and truly interesting! The tasting room is open and airy with a soaring ceiling that runs the length of the room itself, and filled with natural light. On the wall opposite the bar, there's a large sculpture that draws the eye upward-an interesting focal point in the room. The large expanse of wall nearest the door, appears to be panels of assorted reclaimed wood, and could be a mosaic art piece in and of itself. The feeling is very welcoming, and comfortable; a really nice environment to savor their wines. We did a tasting, and came home with two bottles....THIS time. The decision was NOT easy as just about every one we tasted was great. The 'special two' were a 2014 Malvasia Bianca and a 2014 "W" Viognier-Malvasia-Picpoul, reasonably priced. Like a nibble with your wine? There's a cheese plate and a plant plate. We had dinner ready to go at home, so the plate offerings, unfortunately, will have to wait for another time, but the people next to us sampling them tell me "They're scrumptious!" One of their knowledgeable staff: "Isobel," was a joy. She answered all our questions and it was plain to see, she enjoyed her work. The tasting room is just off the expressway and easy to get to. Their phone number is: 520-833-0121. They're open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Come say 'hello' have a sip and a snack. Welcome to Tucson, Sand-Reckoner. We're glad you're here!

Yelp
Such a fun place - the space / environment is beautiful and offer wonderful music! Tasteful art and tastier wine!

Yelp
Must stop when in Tucson! Wines were delicious. Never would have guessed they were from AZ! Girl working the tasting room was knowledgeable and sweet. Great place to happy hour while supporting your local business!

Yelp
I guess by professional norms, I would be considered a wine expert. As a sommelier I get to try a lot of different wines. I'm here to tell you, this is a fun place to be. I really enjoyed their reds and a special sparkling Rose they were tasting. Not only are there wines very approachable, the owners and staff make this a great place to spend an afternoon. The fun food trucks round out the experience. Whether you own 1 bottle of wine or a 1,000 bottles, I would encourage you to give this place a try. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised how good Southern Arizona wine can be.

Sandy W.

Yelp
The owners and staff are amazing people. We love every experience we've had here. We're wine club members as well and they never disappoint! Can't go to Tucson without a stop at Sand Reckoner!

Yelp
What a fantastic stumble upon, really had a great time with my wife. Was a nice drive to the area, and beautiful scenery. Will be returning.

Kathrin K.

Yelp
Enjoy this place for wonderful local wines and the cheese plate. Comfortable place for meeting up with a group or sitting by yourself. I even can get some of my mundane tasks done (reading email, paying bills, etc.) and reward myself for doing them with a class of wine.

Jan E.

Yelp
Arrived on a Sunday shortly after they opened. Experienced some excellent Cochise County wines. The female (sorry but I forgot her name) was so very informative about the Sand Reckoner brand and also gave us details about each wine we tasted. The tasting room is clean, upscale and debuts artwork from the Wilde-Meyer art gallery. For those of you not familiar with Arizona wines, we produce some serious world-class award-winning wines that have unique depth of flavor like no others, so don't try to compare them to California wines. Definitely recommend checking them out!
