Sand River Masai Mara by Elewana

Elewana Sand River, never have I been more sad to leave anywhere in my life. The moment you enter the camp, you realise you are somewhere special. Each room looks over the Sand River so you can spend time watching the resident baboon troop or animals coming for a drink, from the comfort of your four poster bed or even outdoor shower!||Then there is the service and food. Flawless. Every member of staff was exceptional, attentive and friendly. In particular we would like to mention Joseph, who was there from the moment you woke up to when you went back to your room. He taught us so much Swahili during our stay and it was a privilege to get to know him. ||The food was amazing, we have honestly had worst meals in Michelin star restaurants in London!||Finally, and most importantly, were the game drives. Sand River is in a completely secluded location, meaning we had encounters with a leopard and two sets of lion cubs without a single other game vehicle nearby! If you go to the camps more central in the park, every time you see a cat it will be surrounded by 10+ vehicles, not in Sand River.||Special mention again to our incredible guide, Antony! His knowledge and respect of the national park was second to none! I do not believe we could have had a better guide, who is also an award winning photographer so helps with all the best angles! ||Overall, I honestly feel as if we chose the best camp to stay in the Masai Mara!

Sand River was our favorite of three Elewana properties. We adored the staff and the care and hospitality they shared with us. Our guide Joel was so knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed spending our time with him. We only regret that in little sand all the other tents were occupied by a group. This limited opportunity to socialize with other couples, which we really enjoy in our travels. But the entire staff was absolutely wonderful and a joy to spend our downtime with. The food was outstanding.

Everything was excellent!!! The entire staff was incredible!!!! The waiters, the bartender, the chef, the security, everyone! The food and drinks were incredible! The service was top notch! There was no awkwardness or intrusion (I'm writing this because I've had experiences with other hotels where they tried so hard to provide service that it was over the top). I will fondly remember my stay at Elewana Sand River Masai Mara and would be happy to come back again!!!!

Everything about our stay was flawless; the food, the property, the location, and most importantly the service. Every single member of the team was friendly and incredibly helpful. Joseph served us during our trip and went above and beyond to make us comfortable. We feel so lucky to have had Anthony as our guide. His knowledge is exceptional and the passion he has for his work is inspirational. The location is secluded and we experienced so many incredible moments with not a single other person around. This truly has been the trip of a lifetime and we are so grateful we chose Elewana Sand River for our honeymoon. Thank you so much to all of the team.

The biggest compliment we can give is that there would be absolutely nothing we would change about our whole experience. ||From the moment we arrived, the staff all made us feel so welcome and everyone that we came across seemed genuinely friendly and pleasant.||A special mention to some of the staff at the camp, John, Allan, Jeremiah (makes an excellent margarita), Michael, Zia, Timothy and Bob. Everyone looked after us extremely well. Bob made sure the room was immaculate which was so nice to come back to after the game drives. Zia who looked after us with wake up calls and meals was also ever present for anything that was required. As mentioned, there are many names who we didn't catch but they were equally as attentive and friendly.||Also, a big mention to our guide Enock. His knowledge and willingness to answer all of our questions was amazing. He ensured the vehicle always had the essentials packed for our game drives and was not hesitant when we asked to stop for photo opportunities. Apart from seeing the Big 5, a memorable moment would be our last night where we parked up at the side of a river bank to watch a lioness and her 3 cubs playing whilst Enock made us a G&T with the sun going down. This is an afternoon we will never forget. ||We booked this trip as a honeymoon and the staff were all very quick to congratulate us and make sure our whole experience was special. We genuinely cannot compliment everyone enough on the amazing service that is provided throughout.|Asante sana - until next time!!

Our entire stay was amazing. Our wait staff, Zia and Timothy were incredible. Charles our guide was extraordinary. The tent was so comfortable and clean. We can’t say enough wonderful things. Thank you for making our honeymoon amazing!!

It’s taken me a while to write this review because I fear my words will not do this camp justice. We had our own driver so can’t comment on the game drives but if you do have your own driver the camp staff will work effortlessly with them to manage your stay. ||Our whole stay was perfect from start to finish. The setting is incredible. We spent hours of our mornings and evenings watching the animals (baboons, giraffe, elephants, owls) by the river outside our tent. The tent itself was huge and super luxurious. The turn down service was the highlight of our day, we just loved coming back to the four poster beds made up and going to sleep to the sounds of the animals. ||The camp itself and pool area are gorgeous. The food was excellent and plentiful. We really enjoyed all of the drinks and the wine selection was extensive. ||The staff really make the camp. We can’t speak highly enough of them. From the bar staff to the security staff, they all took pride in their work and worked tirelessly to deliver outstanding service and keep us happy and safe. ||Some things that I don’t think other reviews emphasise enough:|- The tents are very private and secluded. There’s a lot of distance between each one so you get total peace and quiet and privacy.|- The service is totally personal and tailored to you. You’ll have your own dedicated butler who is focused entirely on you: wake up calls, drinks, seeing you off to your tent at night; the service is truly sublime and unmatched. ||Overall, you simply must visit this camp.

Staff super friendly and welcoming. Rooms delightful with good beds, plenty of places to hang your stuff and a great bathroom. Outdoor shower works well! All the wildlife can be seen a short drive from the resort although the main wildebeest crossing at Mara River is a 90 min drive away. If you're lucky the Wildebeest have been known to cross at the resort itself!
