Sandals Grande Antigua

"Antigua's Dickenson Beach, with long stretches of white sand, is the island's most beloved for a reason, and the adults-only Sandals Grande Antigua has the best and most reliable access. But that's not all: you won't run out of things to do, as the full-service resort has a piano bar, six swimming pools, eleven restaurants and bars, and a tennis court. Take a break from the water to go on a customized walking tour of the closest town, St. John's, or try a spa treatment like a lavender scalp massage that will help you over that jet lag in no time. Upgrade to one of the plunge pool villas at the Mediterranean Village property for 24-hour room service, a private butler, and (you guessed it) plunge pools."

We had a great time at this resort, very clean property and rooms. A little dated but over all had a great layout of the property. It was one of the prettiest beaches and crystal clear water. The food was excellent and had a lot of choices. The bars served top shelf liquor and the staff went out of their way to make us feel at home. Several staff members stood out, Dawana at the OK Coral, Chad at the Hibachi Grill was great and Stacy at the The Drunken Duck and the Hibachi grill was amazing!!

We just returned from Sandals Grande Antigua in the Cypress Tower and had a wonderful time overall. The property was beautiful and the staff was for the most part friendly and hard-working.|Marie, who we met at Kimono’s, was fantastic. She was super friendly, always greeted us with a smile, and even remembered us when we later saw her at different bars around the resort. We had a great conversation with her about her visit to the US, and her warmth and humor made our day each time we saw her. Also, Kimroy at the Piano Bar. The place was packed one evening, but he was hustling nonstop to fill orders quickly while keeping a positive attitude.|We were lucky to have three amazing butlers—Marvin, Geoffrey, and Kamar—who went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect. They made sure my husband’s birthday was special with extra touches at our beach chair, in our room, and at dinner.|The reason I selected this resort was the beach, and we were not disappointed. There were a few vendors, as it is a public beach, but they respected a polite “no” and did not intrude on our enjoyment. There is one young man selling aloe, that you need to be more assertive with. My understanding is that the other vendors are watching him to keep him under control.|There was some construction in certain parts of the resort, but it did not impact our stay. The only real inconvenience was the elevators in the Cypress Tower, which were malfunctioning and would not go to all floors. We figured out work arounds by going to the floor above where we needed to be and walking down one floor.|Our one real complaint was Café Du Paris. The service there was consistently unfriendly, and the staff seemed annoyed to see guests. The one time we enjoyed our visit was when Laticia and Mickel, who told us they were just passing through, discovered the store empty, and jumped in to help. They brought humor and enthusiasm, creating complicated coffee drinks and crepes with a smile.|I gave the resort 4 rather than a 5, due to the food being good, not great, the issues with the elevators, and our experiences at Café Du Paris. We would go again, but for the price, those issues need to be addressed.

We recently celebrated our 20-year wedding anniversary at Sandals Grande Antigua and it couldn’t have been a better experience. We were upgraded to a nicer room upon arrival which put us in the nicest room at the resort. This was our first stay with a butler and we were blessed with three of the best. Wendel, Neisha and Kevin made our week amazing with the simplest touches of a snack in the room after the beach or pool, setting up all the dinners for us, making our anniversary special by decorating our room, and checking in with drinks by the pool or beach. They all made sure we were taken care of. |We had a candelight dinner on our anniversary and our server Shannon was fantastic as well. |Our photographer Delmore was over-the-top amazing!! I wish I had him 20 years ago for my wedding because my wedding photos would be so much better! He is simply amazing- he works so well with everyone and makes sure to get the right shot!

We stayed at sandals grande and were very impressed from the moment we arrived. Quick drive from the airport and was greeted with cold flannels and drinks. Staff were very friendly and cheerful. Our luggage was taken off us and within 15 minutes we were given instructions of where things were and taken to our room. We stayed in DL garden view room which was very nice, clean and cool with a/c and a ceiling fan. Our luggage was also in the room ready.|I had booked one restaurant before we arrived on the app and was able to make reservations for the other 2 restaurants that needed reservations on the app during our 10 day stay. Food was very nice everywhere there was not one we can say was below standard. Very attentive staff and always checking everything was ok. Bed was super comfy and big with really lovely pillows we slept so well.|Cleaned every day and fresh towels sometimes twice a day. Bed turn down in the event also.|Beach was the best beach I have ever been on and did not require sea shoes. No seaweed at all and was raked and looked fab every morning. |We had a card and a bottle of champagne left for us in our room on our anniversary which was lovely. Had two phone calls in our room during our stay to check everything was ok with us. Grounds and gardens were absolutely beautiful and well looked after by staff. All staff are really hard working and really hope they are looked after by management because they all deserve praise. They always spoke and greeted you good morning or good evening. Entertained was very good. All pools looked good but found it a little too hot by the pool so prefer the beach. Staff came around and offered drinks if required, was never far away from the bar to fetch your own. |Vendors did approach you but were ok when you said no thank you. Plenty of towels near the beach but please return them when you are finished, people would leave them which meant staff walking around collecting them which would be easier for them just to collect from bins provided for used towels.. they work very hard still smiling but I just think that would better for them. Drinks were very good especially the bob Marley frozen cocktail. Couple of shops were nice jewellers were a little pushy when looking which puts me off. Did not want to leave and will definitely return in the future. Missing my time there already. Thank you all of you. Fantastic holiday all round!!

We stayed at the resort from 7/12 to 7/19 and stayed in the main building. The first hour was pretty bad. They delivered the wrong luggage to the room, 3 times. I finally went and got the correct luggage after the failed attempt of 2. Then the Bell Man showed up for the third time with the wrong luggage and Then I had to explain that I had my luggage and the luggage they were trying to deliver was absolutely not mine. Then we struggled the next day with reservations not showing up on my App. As well as we went to a restaurant and they stated I didn't have any reservations. Finally on night 2, a supervisor at Soy got involved and then got a manager involved. We believe that they had us in the system wrong or the next room to us had the same last name. When we booked our next Sandals trip the next day they did get another manager and he did listen to us and got it corrected. He also got us a credit for a cabana or Beach dinner. We had the beach dinner and by far the worst dinner of the 15 nights we have stayed at a Sandals. Pros: - Main Building Rooms were clean, updated and nice. -Resort was Clean. -Pool Activities were good. -Beach was good and no issues with being public. - Soy and Japanese Steak house was very good. -We like Cats and had no issues with them. Cons - Most employees are absolutely miserable and not motivated at all. We had a few that were expectational but like 5. -Overall food was fair at best. -Beach dinner was unbelievably awful. -Customer service is very poor and it will take you at least 3 times to get a simple request corrected. We stayed at St Lucia Grande last Year and it was much better.  We will see how Grenada is Next Year.  It could be the last Sandals or we determine that Antigua is not the place.

This was my third Sandals resort to visit and I absolutely loved it! The drive from the airport is only about 15-20 minutes, which is a huge perk. I stayed in the Mediterranean walkout club level room and really liked it. It was clean and in a great location. I do think the bed and pillows could be more comfortable. Overall the staff was extremely nice! Other than the occasional not so friendly person, I thought they were really welcoming. The diving was okay. The dive boat is on site, so that’s nice! And the dive team is really great! I thought that the food was very good! There are several options for each meal. I didn’t have any problems getting reservations. There are 3 restaurants that require reservations and all of the others do not. The beach is GORGEOUS! I would definitely come here again!

My husband and I spent the week of our anniversary at Sandals Grande Antigua. We have stayed at many all inclusive resorts, but this was our first time staying at a Sandals. It was the most expensive resort we have ever stayed at, and we definitely do not feel that we got more for our money! They advertise they have 11 restaurants, but they are not open when they are supposed to be and it is very difficult to get reservations. We tried on Monday to get reservations for Friday (the day of our anniversary) and both of the restaurants that take reservations were closed. We told them it was our anniversary and they didn’t act like they really cared. Other resorts we have stayed did something to our room or our table on our anniversary but Sandals did not acknowledge it, although after sending a copy of our marriage certificate they did give us one night free. Another night the only time we could get in was at 9pm! We were starving a couple of days around 11-1130 and there was not one place open for lunch. The staff were not very friendly. Once they served you your meal you were lucky if they came back to refill your drink or offer you dessert! Our electricity was completely out in our room 2 different times, our hot water came out looking like coffee, and our phone in our room didn’t work. We reported this a couple of times and they didn’t seem surprised or as if they really cared. Every other resort we have stayed in they have staff that come around the pool and the beach to offer you drinks from the bar. They DO NOT do this at Sandals unless you have paid for a butler. There was seaweed all over the beach and the staff made zero effort to rake it up like they do at other resorts. They advertise that water sports are included but when we would go to the guys on the beach to take out paddle boards or boats, they always said it was too close to their quitting time, or they were out of papers to write guests names on. They did this to a lot of guests. The vendors on the beach were stealing things from guests bags and continuously harassing you to buy things. I know it’s a public beach but Sandals has security staff that sit there and watch it happen and do not intervene. The jet tub in our room had brown scum all over it so there was absolutely no way we would take a bath in it. I had very high expectations when I booked this trip, but I doubt we will ever return to a Sandals.

We spent 10 days at Sandals Antigua and could not be happier with our experience. We had booked a beachfront walkout room but because of renovations we upgraded to a butler suite. I am not a fan of the butler program because we are not that needy and capable of making reservations ourselves. But N'Kossi, Charmaine and Alex did a great job ensuring we had a nice umbrella and plenty of cool drinks each day. ||||The only bad thing I have to say about the room was the whirlpool tub is about a 30" step to get in and I can see that being an issue for some people. Otherwise, we slept great. ||||We had breakfast at Bayside or Eleanor's, buffet or sit down. Both were excellent. ||||We tried most of the places for lunch, but prefer Barefoot. First, no shoes required and second the jerk chicken and pork we very tasty. Once you're done eating I suggest grabbing some of your leftover fries and move a little away from the seats and feed the gulls. If you're patient, they eat the fires right from your hand. Otherwise just throw them high in the air and they catch. ||||Dinner we tried all places but Mario's. Just did not feel like Italian food was fun at the beach. OK Corral was great, Eleanor's was great, Kimonos was awesome(2x). The wife loved Soy sushi. But again Barefoot was our favorite. Very basic fish plates. Pick your fish, your side and topping. Grilled fish on the beach is the best. ||||I don't like to mention this because I don't want the place to get too crowded, but by far the best beach of the 7 Sandals we have been to. Water was a bit cloudy because of the sand but otherwise a clean, long beach. (Side note: when in the water be aware the little fishes like to nibble on your feet, ankles and lower legs. It's unnerving to begin with but it is fun once you understand they're just little guys.) ||||We only did one tour, but it was really cool. We did the Gin and Chocolate tour. The chocolate portion was great and informative, but the star of the tour is Dave at Antilles Distillery. After showing us how the gin was made, he gave a small straight taste of gin. OK, but not a fan of gin. Then he mixed with a little something and you say "OK this is not bad." One more little add and you say "Wow! I could drink this all day." The distillery is set on a nice hillside with a great view. ||||Overall, this was our 10th Sandals visit and our favorite. We enjoyed ourselves so much we booked again for next year.
