Sandpiper Motel Apollo Bay- Great Ocean Road

Good location. Very clean rooms , spacious and nice bathroom with great light. However very poor sound insulation. We got waken up at 6am because of the alarm coming from the room next to us. We could literally hear EVERYTHING. Upgrade of the room insulation would be to consider or maybe people should be mindful of their neighbours… It ruins your stay when you can not have a good night of sleep…

We stayed one night at the Sandpiper Motel in Apollo Bay during peak season. On the positive side, the room was exceptionally clean, and the embroidered details on the bedding, pillow slips, and face towel were a lovely touch that added a sense of care and thoughtfulness to the decor.However, our stay was not without its issues. Room 5; Throughout the night, there was a persistent high-pitched noise whenever water was used in our block of rooms, which disrupted our sleep, not helpful if you are a light sleeper. This was particularly disappointing given the cost of over 500 NZD for one night.Additionally, while the self-check-in process was efficient, the lack of any staff presence left the motel feeling impersonal and made it impossible to seek assistance when needed. For example, there was no way to address the plumbing issue or request additional items like more face towels during our stay.While we appreciated the cleanliness and the attention to detail in the room design, these other factors made the experience less enjoyable than we had hoped. We hope this feedback helps improve the experience for future guests.

Fantastic stay, quite clean and well maintained and above all, right next to the beach. Checkin and checkout was straightforward. We particularly loved the pillows and Michelle had been quite helpful in getting us the model number.

We had a very lovely stay! Exhausted from the trip along Great Ocean Road we arrived late but flexible check-in was no problem. The room was very cosy and clean, amazing and comfortable bed with a big bathroom. We only stayed one night, which made us sad, because we enjoyed the motel very much!

Check in was easy. No reception staff on site. Keys labelled and hanging outside reception in an envelope. Within moments we were in our room without any inconvenience of checking in. Beware though! Instructions for room are on a letter within that envelope, so don’t rip it open, destroying the letter as I did.|Our room was pleasant enough, as pleasant as any renovated 3 star hotel room can be.|I found the bathroom in particular clean and with a nice solid shower screen. The water was good and hot, after running it for a few minutes as the instructions had warned.|Regrettably, we had booked in on a cool rainy night. The rain did not produce those lovely sounds on the tin roof that some of us remember from our childhood, but due to some design deficiency we were entertained by a loud banging on the roof all night. Totally unacceptable.|For a bit of warmth I tried the air conditioner. It worked in all modes except for the heating mode.|Considering that the hotel was certainly not full, anywhere else these issues could have been resolved by switching our room, but not here! With NO staff here at all, we could not do anything about these issues at all.|A VERY uncomfortable night. NOT recommended.

Really great spot. The rooms are far larger than they appear online, which was a really nice surprise! The staff were super friendly and attentive. Just a 2 min walk from the beach and lots of restaurants. Highly recommend!

Excellent small motel, great value. Will stay here again on our next visit to Apollo Bay. Easy walking distance to eateries and shops, and 2-minute walk to the beach. Quiet neighborhood and plenty of parking. Self- check in means late arrival is not a problem.

Didn't receive check in details and motel doesn't have on site reception. Waited in the cold for 20 minutes to access the room. Rooms are basic. Bedding and towels nice but overall still very much a worn out motel/motor Inn.

Stayed here 3 months ago, the day after my stay they tried to charge me another $200, now three months later they are attempting to fraudulently charge over $400 on my credit card. WATCH OUT FOR FRAUD!!! If you stay here they will charge your account myltiple times, you will have to keep chhecking your cc account every month!

Good, modern hotel very conveniently located within walking distance of Apollo bay. A great central point for exploring the Otways. The owners were very friendly and the huge spa wonderful! Slight negative, the walls are very thin and you can hear people coming and going, particularly children, early in the morning.

Great room for the budget price during the week. Reasonably modern decor with free wifi and iPod docking station in the room. Balcony has views if the beach. Its only a stones throw to the beach with plenty of cafes and other eateries to choose from.

If you're on a budget but still want something decent and nice, I highly recommend the Sandpiper Motel. We stayed there for one night and were absolutely happy with our stay. The room was big enough for 3 people, it was clean and had all the necessary amenities. There wasn't any noise during the night and you'll find heaps of free parking either on site or on the street. The big pro was that it's only a 5-10 minute walk to all the restaurants and shops so you can enjoy a few glasses of wine in the evening without having to drive. Great value!

Great room looking out to the beach. Loved hearing the waves during the night. Clean rooms and at a good price. Friendly staff. Close to the shops.

We loved the sandpiper. We stayed in room 4. It was clean and modern. The linen was clean and crispy. We were given fresh milk for coffee and free wifi. The room had great heating, great tv. We also appreciated the toaster and basic cutlery and plates which we used for our snacks. When we arrived beautiful red birds that looked like velvet with blue tails were out feeding and they were glorious. I also saw an Aussie echidna walking down the road as we entered apollo bay. We did not have a view however we could still hear the ocean waves crashing on the beach front overnight which was very cool.
