Sandpiper Motel Apollo Bay- Great Ocean Road

We stayed here for two nights as we explored the area and were very happy with our base. Good value, spacious room, super clean, clear and timely communication about check-in procedures, wifi etc. It was cold and the heater worked impeccably as did the hot water. The fridge and basic set of cutlery and crockery was handy and all appliances worked well. The bed was comfy. We had a room with ocean view and a tree full of birds in front of our window which we greatly enjoyed. The beach and the shops in town are within walking distance. There’s no staff on site but we didn’t miss that. We were very happy with our stay.

Fine but wouldn't stay again- lots of little issues that aren't so bad in isolation but do add up to a less than ideal stay. The biggest issue was staff attitude. A couple of hours after checkin, I went to have a shower and found a towel and the bathmat were dirty. I called the provided number to ask for new towels given they were all stacked together and I thought using the others was a bit iffy (I swear I was polite and emphasised that it wasn't an emergency, but we did need clean towels to be provided at some point that day). The guy on the phone sounded stressed and said he'd check if anyone was able to come as staff go home at 2 (so nobody is EVER around after guests check in and these kinds of things crop up?). Luckily, someone was able to come, but then instead of just swapping out the stack of towels, she went on and on about how the bath mat goes on the floor and people step on it. She explained this multiple times and I'm not sure why- I know how it got dirty, the issue is that you're meant to wash them before putting them in rooms. Photo attached of the bathmat as it was provided. Imagine seeing this and pushing back against replacing it. She also inspected each towel and replaced only the ones she thought were not good enough. To me this is bizarre. The entire interaction could have been 3 minutes if I'd just been able to take towels to a desk, say "could I swap these over please, a couple of them are dirty" and a normal person said "of course, here are some new towels". The next day we were thinking we'd leave the do not disturb sign up and avoid any servicing as the whole thing had been too weird. Unfortunately we got some sand on the floor from sneakers that had been to the beach, had no cleaning supplies in the room, and went, oh well let's leave it to be cleaned. While the bed was made up, the floor wasn't cleaned at all. We didn't even bother calling about this, because we didn't want to have a dumb conversation about whether or not it's normal to leave visible dirt and not even spot vacuum (there'll probably be a reply to this review saying vacuuming is only on checkout or something equally dumb). Photo showing the sand as it looked after cleaning included, yes we were responsible for tracking this in, but imagine not spot cleaning this despite coming in to make the bed? A few other little things that I'd overlook if they were on their own, but added up- the wifi is abysmal, the bathroom had an odd smell (paint maybe?), noise from neighbours was an issue especially anyone who was outside, and the room layout and renovations gave the impression they'd been done as quick and cheap as possible- eg the coat hooks are behind a table and shelf so you can't use them, tv was crooked, paint already blistering off the bathroom door due to moisture. It's a shame because beds are comfortable, the location is pretty good, rooms are a good size and so on. This could be great if they run it like a motel and not a passive income stream.

A comfortable, clean and well supplied room. My only quibble would be the slowness of the hot water, though we were warned of this in a text message received several hours before check in. The said text message contained a number of important details and useful information, including check in details. The location is convenient to the waterfront, though not directly on the beach. The shops are a short walk away. That said, the location is very quiet There is no check in desk, and you don't deal with any people so hard to comment on service other that the system worked well. We were happy with our experience

Great location at apollo bay which is near to amenities. The rooms are also well maintained and clean with room and bathroom heater which is a great to have during the cold weather as it was raining heavily when I arrived. Will definitely stay here again when I am back at apollo bay.

Super bad and dirty room with defects and major problem in the curtain! Came in and the curtain dropped suddenly and hurt the leg. Cannot roll back up and found up the curtain gear is not functioning initially. The staff is super rude and not responsible! Telling lies saying there is no problem when there is, the curtain is already broken and they are not fixing, not changing the room. Very rude and say you can go away from the hotel! I have snapped video and proof that it is already broken initially and the staff. If you're are coming to Apollo bay, don't stay in this terrible place! Btw, the staff are lazy. They never picked up the calls because they don't want to fix the problems! Left the things broken

What a pleasant experience all around! Rolled into the area after 6 on a Wednesday during non-peak season and booked the room aight unseen because they were the first place to answer the phone. But since our camping spot in Forrest was rained out we were grateful just to get a place to stay. Absolutely beautiful room, fantastic location and super accommodating staff. Loved it so much we wish we were staying longer and will definitely be back again.

Beautiful accommodation at an affordable price. Arrived late but the check in was easy as was the check out. The room was spacious and had a modern shower, bed, and AC. I found it very quiet and scenic.

Whole place being renovated. We were not informed at any time that building works were going on. Arrived to find outside were builders everywhere, reception a mess, no staff around and when we went to find our room before the check in time we found the builders still there installing the bathroom sink. Beds had been made but had no dust covers, floors filthy. Two rooms either side were still a building site. Called manager and went elsewhere. Booked through a 3rd party website. Never had this happen before so it was quite a shock.

Stayed here 3 months ago, the day after my stay they tried to charge me another $200, now three months later they are attempting to fraudulently charge over $400 on my credit card. WATCH OUT FOR FRAUD!!! If you stay here they will charge your account myltiple times, you will have to keep chhecking your cc account every month!

Good, modern hotel very conveniently located within walking distance of Apollo bay. A great central point for exploring the Otways. The owners were very friendly and the huge spa wonderful! Slight negative, the walls are very thin and you can hear people coming and going, particularly children, early in the morning.

Great room for the budget price during the week. Reasonably modern decor with free wifi and iPod docking station in the room. Balcony has views if the beach. Its only a stones throw to the beach with plenty of cafes and other eateries to choose from.

If you're on a budget but still want something decent and nice, I highly recommend the Sandpiper Motel. We stayed there for one night and were absolutely happy with our stay. The room was big enough for 3 people, it was clean and had all the necessary amenities. There wasn't any noise during the night and you'll find heaps of free parking either on site or on the street. The big pro was that it's only a 5-10 minute walk to all the restaurants and shops so you can enjoy a few glasses of wine in the evening without having to drive. Great value!

Great room looking out to the beach. Loved hearing the waves during the night. Clean rooms and at a good price. Friendly staff. Close to the shops.

We loved the sandpiper. We stayed in room 4. It was clean and modern. The linen was clean and crispy. We were given fresh milk for coffee and free wifi. The room had great heating, great tv. We also appreciated the toaster and basic cutlery and plates which we used for our snacks. When we arrived beautiful red birds that looked like velvet with blue tails were out feeding and they were glorious. I also saw an Aussie echidna walking down the road as we entered apollo bay. We did not have a view however we could still hear the ocean waves crashing on the beach front overnight which was very cool.
