Sandy Beach Hotel

We stayed at Sandy Beach Hotel during a family trip with 26 people. We were quite lucky to find availability here on very short notice. Absolutely would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good place to stay in Arugambay for very reasonable prices. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Showers, hot water, air conditioning were all properly working. The location is also quite beautiful. We came during off season so the sea was rough, but still there was a beautiful beach area directly accessible from the hotel. Mr. Sajahan was very helpful in all our requests and even facilitated a last minute room type change after we arrived at the hotel due to a change on our part. And I need to specially mention Thaslem, who prepared the dinner for us with a great BBQ Chicken rice sawan and BBQ fish. He asks for the type of fish we want and gets them fresh off the boat each day. He maintains contact frequently and informs if any fish type is not available, and we can ask for an alternative. All the prices were very reasonable as well. We got quite late to arrive at the hotel and I couldn't inform him properly as well, but he still kept the food warm and it was great. All in all, Sandy Beach is an absolutely lovely place to stay in Arugambay, and provides great quality for reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Great hotel at Arugambay. It is a beach front hotel at Arugambay main beach and close to the main surfing spot. Rooms are clean and comfy with both AC and fan. Bathrooms have both hot and cold water. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a restaurant but it was closed as it was the off season.

The hotel itself offers basic and clean rooms. Most of the rooms offer views on the oceans. The room is made after 2 nights. Many restaurants and surf schools are nearby. Overall, the hotel offers excellent value for money. We stayed in a family room which had enough space for the 4 of us.

The rooms and the location definitely deserve full points. We had a direct view of the sea. The facilities were good and clean. There are good sun loungers. The cushions are a bit disgusting, so it’s better to put a towel over them.At the end of the season, there was a really good special price for the room. But the staff were just not acceptable. The supposed boss in a rock shirt only greeted back but never initiated a greeting himself. He always seemed to be in a bad mood and even tried to forbid me from talking to the tuk-tuk drivers because he wanted to sell a tour himself. He also rather rudely demanded payment on the day of departure. Except for the second person in charge, we were practically nonexistent to the other staff members. They preferred to sleep on the loungers.

Such a very pleasing experience after staying at the other end of the beach with all the noise and partying It was so relaxing to be able to chill on the beach under the coconut trees with simple but clean and aircon rooms just a few steps from the beach paradise The staff went out of their way to help you Alex the owner had exceptional hospitality he bent over backwards to help everyone. He even cooked my wife his favourite pasta dish The food and atmosphere just perfect Thank you so much we will be back

This is what we hoped for, coming to Arugam Bay. This hotel is basic, but very clean. No bugs! Cleaned every other day, with new beautiful beachtowls. Nice deck chairs both in the Sun and the shadow. More quiet end of the bay, but we enjoyed the low key vibe and you can easily walk along the beach for the more busy surf point. Endless great restaurants in the area. Nice staff that respect your privacy. We would definately stay here again

We walked into this accommodation after realising the place we had pre-booked was not acceptable. |We were shown a Seaview room that was ready, super clean and at a great price. We ended up staying for three nights! |Staff were very helpful and accommodating and the location was fabulous. Close to restaurants. Would definitely recommend.

We have been to the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner for many days: the food is fantastic and healthy. Opportunity to taste absolutely delicious Italian-Sinhalese dishes. Alex the owner is friendly, helpful and also a fantastic chef!!!
