Sango Sands Oasis

Absolutely great place. Roomy, hot showers, breakfast available, views are incredible. Owners are really helpful and friendly. I am NOT normally a camper, but I would definitely happily come back here any time. Loved it. Oh and it was a great place for the northern lights. Breathtaking dark skies.

This is an excellent location to stop and pitch-up. The sea views are outstanding as are the beaches, sandy and great to walk bear footed on. The site has good unisex shower facilities for male, female and also has family facilities. There's a cafe on site and a breakfast bar offering morning food stuff. We would recommend getting there early enough to secure a pitch.

From the off the location is outstanding looking out over the bay, early morning seal watching while resting in bed with a cuppa was our highlight. They are clearly in the process of revitalising their facilities however the showers were delightfully hot and high pressure and that’s all you really need. Toilets leave a lot to be desired. The site is in process of moving into out of season mode but with over 50 vans each night I think that the shower blocks should have been cleaned at least once in the three nights we spent there….fresh water hose needs disinfecting as people use it to clean out their toilets, all the site needs to do is remove the hoses. Surely most people know that they need to have one with them…||Super well stocked Spar at the entrance of the site. It’s not open on Sundays which is fine but just be aware, they have budget products but also some lovely deli items for those little treats! Theres a pub on site which I can’t review as we didn’t go in. We liked the relaxed way you could drive in and choose a pitch out of season.||There are interesting walks either side of the coast you can spend a good 4 hours hiking either way. |Plenty of marine birds and seals spotted in the bay. Cocoa mountain hot chocolate shop and the Balnakeil craft village and museums was a half hour walk and the Balnakeil bay a further 15 minutes where there is a lovely ancient church ruin and a vast dune beach with pretty shells and sea glass. Worth walking not driving over. The area has a strong military history which is very interesting.

Booked a week before and got an amazing pitch so we ended up staying an extra night. We had a welcoming, efficient check-in at their busiest time of the day no doubt, 4-5pm plus it was a Saturday with an excellent weather forecast the next day….. Facilities wise was fine, bit of a walk to the showers for us and not massively warm but didn’t have high expectations. The toilet block near us was ok, clean but fairly open to the elements with no main door. The site seems to cater for a whole host of travellers of all ages and their various modes of transport. I used the laundry here and their machines were the best quality out of all the sites we stayed at. We did a walk to Faraid Head from the site and Balnakeil Beach was absolutely beautiful on a sunny September day. The Spar shop near the site had a superb variety. From budget style items that you would expect from a Spar to fine foods that you would expect from a high end delicatessen, the staff clearly work very hard keeping it stocked up with some fantastic displays of local produce.

What a great site. The position is absolutely fantastic and the title 'oasis' is about right. Really helpful staff. Good facilities. Added benefit of a pub next door which is welcome after a dive along a single track road in a big motorhome. Facilities were great as was the breakfast bar!

This was a lovely site on our NC500 trip. The site is located right next to the beach and the Sango Sands Viewpoint. The views are amazing. ||We were in a tent and were given free reign of where we wanted to pitch which was awesome. We set up near the sea and no one set up next to us! ||The facilities were of a good standard. The showers were cold unfortunately, but they were busy so I don't blame them for that! ||They have a breakfast bar with rolls etc which are £4. We had these in the morning and it was lovely. |

Part of nc500 route. We didn't use the facilities so, can't comment on those except they did look a bit tired. Views are absolutely stunning. Not much else around there but the views are the reason to visit. The site does do a morning breakfast but we didn't partake. Busy, even in October!

Great spot, beautiful view. Very friendly staff, camping with good conditions. Walking distance from the Spar. The only complain is that the water in the showers was way to hot. We have a almost 2 years toddler and the family showers were out of service, in the normal showers was so hot that is was a struggle to shower the little one

Dog-friendly Pub with good old classics on the menu After a fantastic drive from Thurso to Durness we felt quite a bit hungry. Luckily we passed this place and headed in for lunch. There is a restaurant section and a Pub section (with tables), which does allow dogs. There are lots of good old Pub Classics on the menu, a fact I very much liked. We ordered Fish'n'Chips and a Pie with Chips (and beans). Two beer to go with. Beer was nice and cold, the portions of the meal generous. Fish was crispy and fresh, the Pie creamy and savoury. After a long drive exactly what I needed, some good old pub food. Given the remote location and the lovely Sango Bay next door the prices were really fair. Fun fact: The "Hound" from GoT was a guest here before. Check the news by the entrance.

Sango Sands Oasis pub is pretty basic as pubs go - it reminds more of a working mans club than an old mans pub, trendy bar etc. It has 2 dartboards which we made good use of, and a pool table. The seating area is pretty big - assuming more for making space for tourists than locals - thinking that the congregation of the area would fill the place up alone. Either way, it has an array of local and standard beer, and plenty of whisky. I tucked into a Red MacGregor, from the Orkney brewery. It had me on the floor after a couple. Delicious! The restaurant itself has a bit of a horrible smell of old fat around it, but... the food itself is prepared on the premises. The thai fish cake was a traditional fish cake, but seasoned with coriander and chilli. My main of scampi and chips was a hearty portion, although I could have done without the carrots and peas that seem to have come from a tin, with subsequent loss of texture along the way. But otherwise, the food worked for us on a cold and blustery night. Service is pleasant and frequent, so our beers remained full throughout the meal. It's not going to win any awards, but it's not the worst I've ever been to either. Don't go in with high expectations and you will not be disappointed.

We weren't expecting much. Just pub food. But we were extremely disappointed. The food was bland and we couldn't even finish our meals.

The baked potatoes are excellent. The place is not fancy but you will get a solid meal at a good price. I would happily eat here again.
