"Sansei offers what just might be Maui’s best sushi—a hotly contested title on an island with such rich Japanese roots. Housed in a plantation-style building, the restaurant lands on the contemporary side of things, offering creative sushi like panko-crusted ahi sashimi and the famous Kapalua Butterfly roll with salmon, crab, shiromi , and fresh vegetables. Also on offer are entrée-style dishes like shrimp dynamite, crab ramen, and the perenially popular Asian shrimp cake, crusted with crispy Chinese noodles and served with ginger-chili-lime butter and cilantro pesto. It’s food like this that led Bon Appétit to declare Sansei among its favorite Asian restaurants as well as one of the top sushi bars in America."

Sansei is more than just a sushi spot—it’s a Hawaiian culinary experience that masterfully fuses Japanese tradition with bold Pacific Rim creativity. Whether you're dining in Honolulu, Waikoloa, Kapalua, or Kihei, expect a lively atmosphere, exceptional service, and a menu that surprises and delights. The food? Fresh, flavorful, and adventurous. The Asian Rock Shrimp Cake is a must-try appetizer: crispy on the outside, tender inside, and rich in umami. The Mango Crab Salad Hand Roll is a tropical dream—sweet, creamy, and perfectly balanced. And the Panko-Crusted Ahi? A standout dish with a golden crunch that gives way to silky, seared tuna. The vibe is upbeat yet casual, perfect for everything from romantic dates to group dinners. The staff are warm and attentive, adding a touch of aloha to every interaction. Sansei manages to be both a local favorite and a tourist treasure. It’s the kind of place you remember long after the vacation ends—and the kind of food you wish you could bring home with you. Rating: 9/10 – A flavor-packed must-visit

Google
Great place for good sushi and seafood. The Grilled Hawaiian Ahi and Shrimp Cake plate was unbelievable and to drink, the Kai Tai was perfect. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful with the menu regarding what our kids can/can't eat. Even talked to the chef to cater to our kids food needs.

Google
Wow!! You absolutely must try the butterfish. It is hands down one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. The sauce was perfection and it just melts in your mouth. All of the food was excellent, we ordered so much! Nothing disappointed. Us and we had a great time. We went on Monday and showed up around 4:45 to a big line of people waiting for the happy hour. It was a perfect dinner for our last night in Maui!

Google
Good sushi spot for dinner if you’re in the Kapalua area! They will recommend the butterfish, personally I’d skip it if I came back but definitely get their dynamite shrimp, super crispy and the sauce is phenomenal. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the sushi, it was all very fresh. Our waiter was excellent and we were in and out in about 40 minutes, so very efficient.

Google
This was the best meal of our week in Maui! Our family of five made Christmas dinner reservations here, and it truly exceeded all expectations. Our waiter was incredibly attentive, kind, and offered fantastic recommendations. Food came back out so quick too. We had a nut allergy at the table, and they took great care in ensuring our meal was completely nut-free, using separate utensils for added safety. The menu is extensive, and we ordered a variety of dishes: a rainbow roll, ahi roll, their special ahi roll, brussels sprouts (the best I’ve ever had!), steak, and mango crab wraps. Highly recommend this spot for dinner—we will definitely be back!

Google
Chris was great at recommending items from the menu and answering any questions we had. We enjoyed everything. I didn’t even take a photo of the shrimp dynamite I was so excited to try it.

Google
An easy 5 stars for sure. This place was more formal, our “splurge date night dinner “ if you will. I am so glad we stopped by. Sunny was our server and he made our experience so intimate and personal. To have been serviced by someone so good at his trade, who knows the art of sushi and is passionate about it, made such a difference to us. We pretty much just let him tell us what to order and we did not regret it! He even surprised us with our last dish, he took such fantastic care of us! This is the freshest fish on the island. And we at a lot while we were here, we love sea food but this set a new bar for us. I also highly enjoyed the art on the walls. Each piece felt hand picked and was so so tasteful. In addition they had good music playing and a dimmer environment which added to our precious date night. They open at 5pm for dinner and you need a reservation or to be there about 4:30pm to wait in line and for sure catch a table. We will definitely be back

Google
We loved our meal start to finish. We had the himachi crudo, eel sushi roll, grilled Hawaiian ahi and shrimp cake, pork chop, and coffee ice cream pie. The entire staff busted their butt and never made us feel rushed even though they were closed. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I was in the mood for seafood, and happy this place was within walking distance. Customer service upon entering this establishment was amazing. If you don't have a reservation, you will be waiting (no matter what your party size is). I opted to sit at the bar and was so glad I did, because the bartender was absolutely delightful and truly on it! Everything on the menu looks good- unfortunately you will have some hard decisions to make about what to eat. Either that, or maybe just come back multiple times. I got the crab ravioli and it was perfect as a starter. I also got the poke crab roll and the seafood ramen. Everything was delicious and I knew I couldn't finish all, but at least I was able to taste the crab Ramen, which was so decadently delicious. This is definitely a place you probably need to come a couple times just to get through the menu... Really great service, great price point for food, and also there is parking available for free as well for guests .

Yelp
I don't understand the hype of this place, it was mostly just mediocre sushi. My party of four coming from MN and TX should not think the sushi is better in the states we came from vs an island state. We started with the ahi and with enough sauce we enjoyed it. Eat it in one bite because it'll fall apart otherwise. We also got the coconut shrimp and that was tasty. Also had a seaweed salad, can't go wrong with that if you like seaweed. The rolls we got; rainbow(loved the fish a lot), but kind of a simple roll. Another one that was recommended by our server takah roll and had ahi, shrimp and crab. My friends weren't impressed. It had too much crab and not enough of the good meat. The crunchy island spicy roll per my friend was good, but had better. Last roll was a dragonfly and that was tasty and would get again. We were happy prices weren't crazy or probably would've been upset about our experience. Server was nice, just not sure about her recommendations.

Yelp
Sansei was recommended to us by multiple people, so we knew we had to give it a try. We arrived right as it opened and the line was already going. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MAKING A RESERVATION. I say this because it's a famous spot and the restaurant is quite small on the inside. Before we started, we informed the waiter that my sister had a soy allergy to which he guided us through what his favorites are on the menu and how he can substitute items with the allergy. I am going to rate each item out of 10 below to let you know what we really enjoyed. Panko Crusted Ahi Sashimi: 9.5/10 - Usually Ahi Sashimi is served in some sorta ponzu, but the panko crust is next level DK's Crab Ramen with Truffle Butter Broth: 9/10 - The taste of the truffle mixed with a crab broth was delicious. They served it with bowls and spoons so everyone could have a taste. Misoyaki Chicken: 7.5/10 - Was tasty and juicy, but lacked the flavor I was expecting. The others at the table really liked it. Edamame: 9/10 - The Edamame were cooked to perfection and tasted fresher than normal. It's an easy dish to mess up as it's so simple. Sashimi Trio: 8/10 - You could tell that the trio of fish served was fresh. I usually only stick to Tuna, but the other fishes were really good too. Hawaiian Roll: 8.5/10 - I'm not usually a roll guy as I like sushi simple, but they killed it with this roll. Overall, the food and staff were amazing. The speed that the food was delivered was very quick and worked out well for us as we had a baby with us. I will definitely be coming back here the next time I visit Maui. My rating is a 9/10.

Yelp
Hands down the best sushi spot in Maui! I still dream about this place.... Yumm!! Their ahi is just wowww - melt in your mouth amazing! Servers are all super friendly and service is super fast with your food with dishes coming out as the chefs prepare them. Like most places, Maui is super laid back in dress code, so feel free to dress casual or dress it up!

Yelp
This place is touted by locals as some of the best seafood and sushi - and they're spot on. The menu is extensive with extensive amounts of fresh seafood, small plates, and deserts. Prices are typical of Maui but not crazy. And service is impeccable, enthusiastic, and a real pleasure. We went with mostly sushi and every single bite was delicious. Make a reservation well in advance as they are booked solid every night.

Yelp
This is the sushi you're gonna want! SO fresh, and such good quality! The service was great, very friendly even for a take-out order. The restaurant is not super large, but it feels intimate and neat. I would like to dine there again in the future.

Yelp
Megan was the best waitress, and great memory, we were a party of 10, all went well Food was also great as ever, we have been eating here for 20 + years

Yelp
Wow the first time I came here was over 10 years ago, and I am fortunate to have made a trip back to Sansei and still see it thriving a decade later. To make reservations you need to call in or put your name down in-person at the restaurant! My reservation was at 7pm and we were seated immediately. Our server for the night was Sonny and he was an absolute gem of a human. He knew the menu like the back of his hand and made our experience enjoyable. We ordered a lot of different dishes and nothing went to waste. Miso Butterfish (5/5): 3 pieces of tender flaky miso-ey goodness. A great starter. Wok Tossed Veggies, Brussels Sprouts, Cauliflower (5/5): For all you veg lovers. These are three separate dishes but I bunched them all together, because all of them were a hit. My fav were the crispy brussels, you can never go wrong. Hamachi Carpaccio (4/5): The truffle is omnipresent the second you hold the fish up to your mouth. It's a good thing I enjoy truffle though. Spicy Tuna Roll (5/5): Yum! I know it's a basic roll to order but the execution of the spicy tuna here is so delicious. I'm pretty sure they use sambal to spice the tuna and it was fantastic. Red Dragon Roll (5/5): This is one of their speciality rolls and it was incredible. It is a spicy tuna roll topped with fresh tuna, a truffle aioli, tobiko, and sriracha. Alaskan Roll (5/5): Salmon, cucumber, and avocado. Simple and delish. Kauai Pie (5/5): MMMM if you had Lappert's ice cream you already know how good this is. This dessert was basically an ice cream pie. There was a thin chocolate cookie-like crust at the bottom, ice cream comprising the bulk of the slice, with a chocolate fudge drizzle on top. Perfect treat to the end of a great dinner. Great spot with very reasonable prices for Maui. I will always recommend this spot for sushi.

Yelp
We have been there dozens of times, Never disappointed . Very high volume, so everything is VERY delicious and fresh. I cannot say enough good things about this place , it's the favorite by far.

Yelp
So we decided to try the "early" seating on a Monday - most things on the menu are half off which is quite a deal for a restaurant like this on Maui! Based on others reviews we arrived at 3:45 and were the third party in line. By the time the doors opened at 5:00, the line went around the corner and I'm not sure if everyone got sat. They have one seating only for the half off and you need to have all of your food orders in no later than 5:30. It was very well managed - they have it down pat! We ordered two rolls, the dynamite shrimp and a dessert along with two glasses of wine - our total bill including tip was $75 - that's a great price! Loved our two rolls - one was the Takah(?) but can't remember the name of the second one. The dynamite shrimp was spot on! We had the brownie/ice cream for dessert - huge!

Yelp
I had just arrived into town so I was looking for a quick bite near the Ritz hotel where I was staying. This is within a 5 minute walk so it was a no brainer. The sushi was amazing, super buttery - the only drawback was the oToro that particular day - it was a bit greyish in color vs more pinkish so I think it might not have been as fresh as it could have been - nevertheless, the hamachi and salmon were both incredible. I also tried the calamari dish and unfortunately, the tortilla "chip" that it is served on seemed a bit stale.

Yelp
Popular restaurant for the Kapalua crowd. A bit dated decor, full bar, usually a packed house. In years past, the Truffle Ramen was once a shining star on the menu but it had dwindled to half the portion which made it lukewarm at best when served, now removed. They have expanded seating in side rooms that are blank and boring. Try to get inside next to the bar for more ambience. Sushi is fresh, good presentation, standard fusion rolls. $$$

Yelp
My favorite place to take a big party with kids. The service was great. It was a casual nice vibe inside. The food was fresh and delicious. My favorite was the hamachi nigiri. The apple dessert was insanely good.

Yelp
Disappointing Experience at Sansei A friend recommended Sansei, and we were excited to try it out during our trip to Maui. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the hype. We brought a group of 6 on a week night. While we expected a wait for a table, we were seated fairly quickly, which was a nice surprise. However, the real wait began once we were seated. It took almost an hour before we could even place our order and receive our first course. As for the sushi itself, it was just okay. The flavors were decent, but some of the rolls weren't tightly made and fell apart slightly, which took away from the experience. The selection included some common rolls you see everywhere, the interesting combinations unique to Sansei were mostly in the cooked food. While the food wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't exceptional either. In a place like Maui, where there are so many great options for seafood, I'd recommend exploring other spots before choosing Sushi Sensei. There are definitely better places to go on the island.
google avatar

Robert G.

Yelp
Another great dinner for 6 at Sansei. The food is always awesome and our server Megan added to the positive experience. We had an array of delicious items including panko crusted ahi, dynamite shrimp, teriyaki beef, Brussel spouts, Sansei special roll, butterfish and lobster ravioli in a truffle sauce. We'll be back again next year.

Darrell L.

Yelp
Sansei was great for the food and service by Chris was outstanding. Super fresh sashimi and sushi. Loved the Panko Crusted Ahi and sashimi Trio
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
I would say skip this place. Some of the food is good but for the price it was really underwhelming. The most disappointing was the sashimi trio. The tuna tasted very low quality and was worse than the ahi poke you get at supermarkets. The salmon and hamachi were just ok. As for the sushi rolls, they were tasty but small and definitely not worth over $20 per roll. The only good thing was the Nobu style butterfish but it was not even close to being as good as the one that's served at Nobu. Overall, the food was mid and the price was too high for the quality. Our server also had a bad attitude for no reason. Would not come here again.

Yelp
What a disappointment. From the weird seating system to the food. Just a hard, no. We tried to make a reservation based on others reviews, on open table. They have open table. But don't utilize the system. So you have to call to get a reservation. When you get there, they have cheesy signs asking you to line up for reservations. Or walk-ins. Which causes chaos at the door. Once seated in a very ordinary dining room, like a Dennys but serving seafood. Crowded tables and drab decor. The server was rough. Won't mention his name. Safe to say he lacks any real training. Using his fingers inside dirty glass ware then in the same moment uses those hands to provide serving plates and bowls carrying them inside the rims. The restaurant has an overall foul odor. Not unusual for sushi restaurants that fail to maintain a level of cleanliness. The food is what we came for. Was looking forward to some decent sushi. Sorry. No. Signature shrimp appetizer. Shrimp dynamite. Not good. Teriyaki beef. Surely this should not be hard. Overly sweet sauce. Dousing a piece of leather. Cocktails were weak. Beer was cold. Given the lack of dining offerings on this side of the island, you really have limited choices. This should not be one of them. Not for us anyways. Good luck.

Yelp
Love the food at this restaurant but wish they would offer Kamaaina rates all the time like most of the other restaurants in the area. If they did they may have more customers. Locals only get a discount after lining up at certain days/times. My girlfriend and I ordered takeout after a beach day and when we arrived at 7pm the restaurant was nearly empty! About 8 tables were occupied and no one at the bar. Such a pity. They can't be making money with the lack of tourists, they are going to have to rely more on the local populace. Anyhoo....you are here for the food details.....here is what we ordered: Edamame - ok but plain with no seasoning which was a let down. Luckily we ate at home so could add what we wanted. Spicy Tuna roll - fish was definitely fresh, rolls tight, was great tasting but I prefer Miso Phat's as they add a spicy seasoning which takes it up a notch Rainbow Roll - fresh and great tasting Hamachi Nigiri - for the price for 2 pieces we expected something a little larger but the Hamachi melted in the mouth We enjoyed our sushi dinner but it isn't something we can afford to splurge on often at tourist pricing when we live on an expensive tourist island.

Yelp
Sansei is great for people who like rolls! If you're super into sashimi / nigiri this might not be the place for you. Our waiter recommended the red dragon roll and otoro sashimi so we ordered both along with amber jack nigiri and a sashimi trio (salmon, yellowtail, tuna). The red dragon roll was surprisingly really good- the tuna was fresh and it wasn't too spicy so I was able to enjoy the fish. I enjoyed the sashimi plate and amber jack but was disappointed in the otoro. The otoro slices looked like it was hacked up and didn't taste as buttery and fatty as I'm used to.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
The food was great. The crab ramen had lots of crab in it with a very tasty broth. The fried calamari was also good but the dipping sauce was not an Asian sauce and tasted like a regular cocktail sauce. My husband said the oysters with the sunomono was also very good. The butterfish was cooked perfectly. Service was very fast.
google avatar

Vanny K.

Yelp
Glad they maintained the food quality and services. It's our must-go-to place when we are on the island.

Yelp
Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar in Kapalua, HI offers a delightful culinary experience that seamlessly blends sushi mastery with innovative flavors. The sushi rolls are a standout, bursting with freshness and creativity, while the Hamachi and Otoro nigiri are solid choices for traditionalists. However, the true stars of the show are the Gochujang calamari and Butterfish dishes. And to cap off the dining experience, the hot fudge brownie sundae provides a decadent and indulgent finale that leaves taste buds singing. If you're craving a memorable seafood feast on Maui, Sansei is good spot.

Yelp
One of the more affordable dinner options in Maui. Very casual, Excellent Manhattan made with Japanese whiskey and a Saki with Raspberry liquor. Very delicious. Edemame served cold and without saw salt so asked then to warm it up and add latter. Miso soup very good. Delicious butter fish, better with skin taken off. Fatty belly tuna very rich and yummy (? Otoro). Tuna roll special with sarschi & sweet lines also delicious. Would come back here again!

Yelp
Very popular sushi spot in kapalua we came early for Happy Hour. Everything on the menu is half off from 5 to 5:30 If you want to enjoy HH the line starts forming about 3:30. Service was great and they try to make every attempt to get to all of you food items before HH ends

Yelp
Always a pleasure to eat at Sansei When we first came to Maui 9 years ago we spent everyday at Sansei when it was in Kihei and showed up in 2024 and saw it closed down Lucky we were staying in Kapalua and found out there was one around the corner from The Ridge . You can't go wrong with their sushi rolls

Kevin S.

Yelp
Wonderful sushi restaurant. The entire experience was fabulous. Our waiter, Sonny, was super helpful, courteous, and informative. Food was delicious. Highly recommeded.

Yelp
The prize for driving around the island of Maui, from Kahului was a meal at Sansei. This was not our first meal there; it was my beloved's fourth. While it is a very commercial entity one feels treated well by the staff. The food is fresh and varied. The scale however can be misleading, yet, accounts for their ability to serve well at scale. You will be seated!!!

Yelp
Repeat customer who loves sushi and have had wonderful experiences dining at Sansei in the past. This year, we booked reservations well in advance of our trip. We arrived for dinner at our reservation time and got sat within 5 minutes of arriving. Our server was knowledgeable and explained items on the menu. Our food was great. The only downfalls were not being asked if we wanted anything to drink at all. We were provided water but didn't get asked if we wanted anything else to drink. We were going to order cocktails but decided not to after drinking our glass of water, waiting for our glasses to be refilled and not being offered anything else. The dinner also felt so very rushed. We were in and out in 30 minutes. That was with ordering two courses of sushi for 4 people. The food came out so fast that it just seemed a bit too quick to enjoy a nice meal in a nice establishment while on vacation. I understand turn over and a waitlist but this was the shortest dining experience at a nice establishment that I have ever had. It felt like it was some "get them in and get them out ASAP."

Yelp
We came to Sansei for dinner because my mom raved about their butterfish and it's a pretty popular spot. We ordered the butterfish, a shrimp tempura roll, and the grilled pork chop. My mom was disappointed in the butterfish and said it was not the same as it was the last time she had it - I enjoyed it though. The shrimp tempura was fresh and good as well. The pork chop was pretty good too but not worth it in my opinion for the price. For dessert, we ordered the Kauai pie. It was tasty, but wish it didn't have so much chocolate syrup. The service was great! Our server, Nick, was very friendly and had a good sense of humor. He came by to check on us regularly and our food came out pretty quickly. The ambiance is casual and cozy. We dressed up but you definitely don't need to do so here. Overall, the food was fairly good, but not a place I'd feel the need to go back to.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing staff! Reservations were booked but they do take walk in's. We got lucky and got a reservations. The manager at our resort recommended the sushi restaurant Sansei. Mike was our waiter and recommended all the good stuff. We had to come Back a second time and sat outside and Chris waited on us. Sushi is amazing! And we got the steak teriyaki which was so good. Mahalo!
google avatar

Yelp
From the moment we walked in the door to placing our order the team who helped us was amazing! The food portions were larger than expected and the wine list was a good value. The shrimp was delicious and the ambiance was relaxed with a country club flair.

Yelp
We truly enjoyed our dining experience here in June 2024! The service was fantastic, the food was fresh and amazing, and the environment was relaxing. We made reservations when it opened for the day. I was impressed with how organized the intake process was because one line is for reservations and the other for walk in. We sampled a variety of fresh sushi and some signature dishes, all which were flavorful and tasty. I can't wait to visit this place again when we head over to Maui next time.

Yelp
Great spot just a few minutes from the Ritz Carlton! Very nice vibe, good, quality sushi and moderately priced in comparison to eating on property. We sat at the bar which was fun as we chatted with the bartender and met another couple of their honeymoon too, it made for a fun time! Highly recommend if you're staying nearby! Definitely make reservations in advance if you can! Will be back again :).

Yelp
We went 1 hour and 30 minutes before opening on a Sunday for their 50% off most of the menu from 5-5:30. Crazy wait but it was well worth it. Our server was very familiar with the menu, provided his recommendations, and really helped us maximize efficiency to get the most value. It's a sit down and is usually by reservation only. On a non-discounted day the prices can get kinda high but with the discount it's well worth it. All the dishes tasted really fresh and the sashimi was a melt in your mouth feel. My personal favorites included: crab truffle ramen, sashimi trio, and the breaded ahi tuna. You really can't go wrong with a lot of their menu. We planned our whole day in Maui around this meal but I would say it was well worth it.

Yelp
TLDR; served us the same sushi rolls that were incorrectly served to another table. Ugh, not the type of review I ever want to leave. We were seated right next to the sushi bar and watched our server drop sushi rolls to the table next to us. That table later informed him they didn't order it. He picked up the rolls and brought them back to the bar. He looked at the ticket, realized his mistake, and brought the SAME ROLLS he dropped to the wrong table and served them to us. Neither my husband nor I could believe what we just saw. Beside ourselves. Sadly won't be coming back here. Food wasn't bad, just can't get over the bad business practice.

Yelp
Sushi, salad, soup all great. New York strip failed. I can handle a little pink but it was basically bleeding. Our server was great and he noticed as well. But by the time he offered to throw it back on, everyone else had finished. No refund either. Came through with a quesadilla dinner at home.

Yelp
This review is for Megan because she's an all star! We went to sansei for the happy hour on Monday. It starts at 5 pm but we read reviews that said people showed up at least an hour ahead of time. So we went around 345 pm and there was already a long line. People in line even brought beach chairs and books! At around 430 a hostess came by and told us that we wouldn't make the cut for the first seating and happy hour only lasts 45 min which pretty much means we'll be paying full price. So we decided to stick around since we were already in line and just pay full price. Many people left the line behind us and two groups left in front of us. And we got super lucky and ended up making it for the first seating! Stubbornness and perseverance does pay off! The happy hour was a great deal, pretty much half off of everything minus a few items and alcohol. Megan came over immediately and explained how the happy hour worked and all the rules about ordering, which pretty much were order whatever you want and she'll bring it out when it's ready and you have to order in the 45 min to get half off. She was super fast taking orders and fast to bring everything out. She was also super friendly and personable. Miso butterfish is a must have! We ordered four! The rolls were all good but typical rolls at a Japanese restaurant. I was super impressed with the nigiri we got salmon and tuna and they were huge pieces of fish! And super fresh! We also ordered the sashimi trio which was amazing! We also tried a variety of cocktails all delicious and strong!

Yelp
Mahalo Nui Loa - SONNY! First time ever at this place and didn't know they had multiple locations on what seems each island. Went to dinner with the homie lastnight at this spot and everything was delicious. Our server - Sonny was truly a highlight for us. We appreciate the service and conversation we had shared with him. Unfortunately I didn't get any foodie photos because that's how enjoyable it was we were in the moment. OUR ORDER: Variety of Sushi - Nigiri style Fried Calamari Caesar Salad Pork Chop w/mash potatoes Lighting in this establishment is sorta dim, we didn't have to wait for a table we just walked in and was sat immediately. So thankful we got a table but it was busy but not as busy (if that makes sense).

Yelp
50% promo deal... we got there about 40-45 min early to get the 5pm 50% off deal. Once we got there around 4:15ish the line had already started. Long story short, we were turned away and told there was a about an hour in a half wait to be on a waitlist ... people in line were NOT HAPPY. there's gotta be a better way than having people wait an hour (people ahead of me) and not get a table... this food is incredible, customers would come eat at 50% or not it's just a matter of waisting an hour standing in line to not even be sat. Someone in line suggested like a max capacity sign for the special ... or only allow 50% for parties of 4 and below... idk . Felt disorganized & inconsiderate for how amazing this place is. Aside from that hiccup... food is WOW. We come every-time we visit Maui . This place has the BEST sushi I've ever had. The Ramin was to die for. I'd go so far as to say this place is better than Merrimans ... Customer service is equally perfect . DRINKS WERE AMAZING not watered down drinks like the resorts lol I was pretty drunk after 2 drinks lol love this place !!! I just won't try the 50% discount again lol the food is so good I don't mind paying it honestly lol btw the employees work like it's their restaurant. I love that. Each and every person here works with pride. They all stand behind the restaurant and you just don't see that anymore .

Yelp
I had very fond memories of this place from 10 years ago when I first visited Maui, back when you had to wait in a long line to get a table. I remember getting amazing, fresh, and creative rolls with dynamic flavor, one after the other. This go-around I was underwhelmed. Our seating was in the side room to the right of the entrance, which was boring and lacked personality. The food came out lacking flavor, like it had aged on a shelf from the supermarket sushi counter. Overall, if this were an affordable spot in my neighborhood I would go regularly and give it 3 stars. However, it seems the establishment is resting on its laurels from a better time and charging a premium. I think you could find a better sushi spot elsewhere on the island!

Yelp

Yelp
Eaten here many times. The food is usually very good and fresh. Our waiter was on top of his game. We ordered 4 orders of butterfish, which is black cod. It was a lil fishy to smell and taste this time. Had lots of nigiri the eel was excellent as was the tuna, scallops & Himachi. Had the ahi panko crusted roll, tasty but by this time we were stuffed! I'd say for the happy hour it's def worth it. Without that pricing I think there's many other options that have amazing sushi other than here. The prices have gone up and some of the quality has gone down unfortunately, you just have to know what to order.

Yelp
Terrific food service. We're really glad we came here. The pricing's are very reasonable and the old-fashioned special was excellent.

Yelp
Oh how the mighty have fallen... What used to be a fun, crowded, happy Sushi restaurant is a shell of what it once was. Here's a very obvious way to judge a Sushi restaurant; if there's no soap in the Men's restroom, RUN! Restaurant: Empty Sushi Chefs: Unhappy to be there Waiter: Bad breath Sake: Really good Sushi: I've had fresher Sushi from a gas station Price: As if it's really a high quality Sushi in a high end resort area Would I return: Never, and I still have a $100 gift card
