The 8 Best Hostels in Barcelona (Updated 2025)

"Close to the city center, I found Sant Jordi Hostels Sagrada Familia to be really creative and fun: it's covered in murals, has instruments and a stage for playing music, an indoor skate ramp, nightly parties and pub crawls, a spacious kitchen for cooking, and a chill outdoor lounge with a big projector for movies. The dorms are small and the beds aren't amazing, but the overall atmosphere is lively and social." - Matthew Kepnes

Nice and affordable hostel close to the Sagrada Família. The staff are very friendly, especially the blonde French guy at the check-in desk. He was polite, super helpful and made everything go smoothly. As I’ve noticed, he speaks three languages. Quite impressive. The place was clean, and on the second floor I could smell a familiar disinfectant, which made me feel confident that they take hygiene seriously. The only thing I didn’t like was the air conditioning set to cooling mode. I froze while sleeping! It’s October 31st - November 1st, we need heating, not cooling, lol. Additional useful information and details: There is a €10 deposit that you must pay, which is refundable. In addition, a tourist tax of €5.50 per day should be paid upon check-in. The bathroom is divided into two separate areas, one with a shower and the other with a toilet. Wi-Fi internet is available. The reception is open 24/7. Check-out is until 11:00 a.m., and check-in is between 2:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

I spent a few days at this hostel in Barcelona and overall had a pleasant stay. However, there are a few points worth mentioning – both positive aspects and areas where there’s some room for improvement. Starting with the things the hostel can control: It was a bit disruptive that new guests sometimes received their hostel introduction directly inside the dorm room late at night – occasionally as late as 3 a.m. It would be preferable if the staff could handle these explanations at a quieter time or outside the sleeping areas. The key card system also had its quirks: I had to get my card reprogrammed several times because either the locker or the room door wouldn’t work – though occasionally both did, just not reliably. In addition, the bed creaked noticeably with every movement, which affected sleep comfort a bit. Some other inconveniences were beyond the hostel’s control. One morning there was no electricity in the bathroom, and on another day, the hot water stopped working. These issues seem to stem from the age of the building and can happen occasionally, without being the hostel’s fault. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and genuinely tried to make guests feel comfortable. The lady serving breakfast was especially kind and attentive. Cleanliness was consistently good – despite visible signs of wear, I never felt uncomfortable. The beds were, aside from the creaking, quite comfortable, and the price for food was fair: breakfast and dinner aren’t included but cost around €7–8, which is very reasonable. All in all, it was a pleasant stay with a few minor issues that didn’t significantly affect the overall experience. If you’re looking for a clean, friendly, and centrally located hostel and can take small technical quirks with a sense of humor, this is a solid choice.

I stayed for just one night when passing through Barcelona but I can definitely recommend this place. I was in the room 205 for females with 6 beds. Everything was clean, the room was quiet, bed was alright. There is a locker in the room to store your things (fits a small backpack) and there's some space in the room for your luggage as well. You can leave your things in a storage room the next day if you want to explore the city. The staff is very friendly! I immediately felt welcomed and safe. It's a hostel and not a 5-star hotel so bear that in mind. But overall, I'd say you get great service for the price. There's also a big shared space where you can work if needed or just chill and you can cook in a big kitchen.

A serious security failure and a complete denial of responsibility My experience at this hostel was extremely disappointing due to a serious security failure that happened directly under staff supervision — followed by a complete refusal from management to take any responsibility. During check-out, my backpack was stolen inside the hostel, right in front of the reception desk, while two reception staff members were on duty. A person who was not a guest freely entered the building, interacted with staff, picked up my backpack, and walked out — all within seconds and without any kind of verification or intervention. This is not a small accident. This is a fundamental failure of access control and basic staff vigilance. What made the situation worse was the hostel’s response. Despite the theft happening: inside their premises, in the most supervised area, under direct staff visibility, involving a non-guest entering and exiting freely, the management repeatedly stated that the hostel bears no responsibility at all. They prioritized denying liability instead of acknowledging the obvious operational oversight that made the theft possible. I chose this hostel based on its high reviews, but this incident raises serious questions about the real level of security and the reliability of the supervision at reception. Guests should be aware that: Non-guests can enter and exit without being questioned Staff may not notice what happens directly in front of them Management will refuse responsibility even when incidents happen under their supervision This is not the level of safety or professionalism one expects from a highly rated hostel. I hope future guests take this into consideration, and I sincerely hope the hostel addresses these problems instead of dismissing them.

I was given an upper bed directly in front of the air conditioner, and it was impossible to sleep all night it felt like sleeping in a freezer. I even had to move to the common area in the morning to rest. Honestly, those beds should not be rented out unless it’s clearly indicated. Apart from this issue, the place itself was fine and the rest of the experience was okay.

I stayed in Room 203 at Sant Jordi Hostels Sagrada Familia with 10 friends, and overall, it was a great experience. The room was clean, spacious enough for our group, and the bunk beds were comfortable with individual lights and outlets. The hostel has a fun and social atmosphere, which made it easy to meet other travelers. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was convenient—just a short walk to the Sagrada Familia and close to the metro. The only downside was that it could get a bit noisy at night, but that’s expected in a hostel this lively. Would definitely recommend it for group stays.

I can't stand it. I stayed here for four nights, but it was noisy every night. Its geographical location is very good, but the room is too noisy. I'm here to rest, not to listen to everyone's noise. can't fall asleep at 2 p.m.

Yelp
I spent 6 days at the hostel in the triple suite. Had a great time overall but overall we were pretty disappointed with the triple suite. Pros: -Staff was super friendly and helpful overall. -The sense of community within the hostel. -Loved the "family" dinners for 6-8 euros. -Outdoor space was awesome. -Great location. -Shared facilities were clean and comfortable. -24/7 staffing meant our group of women felt safe and secure.  -Lots of hostel activity options available. Cons: -When I went to drop off my bags, the staff offered to check us in early in exchange for a five star review on HostelWorld. Aside from that being uncool and unethical, I didn't even book through HostelWorld. -The triple suite was outdated, the beds were not very comfortable (cheap foam), and the room needs an update. There was no spot in the bathroom to set anything down aside from on the floor, the shower head was awkward and difficult to work around in various positions, the pillows were super thin, the bathroom always smelled really bad even when nobody used it for hours, the door leading to the terrace is always locked which kind of defeats the purpose, and the ladder to the bunk beds was extremely difficult and scary to use even while very much sober.  -We planned a couple nights around the hostel dinner, which is scheduled at 9p. One of the dinners wasn't served til nearly 10:30p, which meant we had to cancel our plans.  -My food was taken from the fridge within 12 hours of bringing it back, despite writing our info on it. -Luggage room security is lacking, as it's all based on an honor system once you have the key.

Yelp
It's a skateboard theme hostel that was contemporary and clean! The staff members make this hostel very communal and hip! I loved the energy and the daily night events that they held, such as bar nights, a tapa night, a paella night and so forth! They are also very informative on directions and tips about sites that you might want to check out in Barcelona! Their complimentary map is very helpful as well! They have an open lounge area, an internet computer section, a private skater room to my surprise, laundry facility and a kitchen area to cook in! Pretty unique for a hostel that I have experienced in thus far! Plus, they conveniently have an elevator! It takes a major load off when or if you have a huge luggage that is twice your size to bring up! Rather than carrying my heavy luggage up the stairs manually, the elevator was a savior! I definitely had a pleasant and fun time here! I highly recommend this hostel!

Yelp
This was a clean, welcoming, and rad hostel! I stayed here in May 2018 when traveling solo for a few days. The lower floor is a lobby, which extends to a kitchen area, tables, couches, and some desktop computers, and a skateboard halfpipe. I rented a towel for 2 euro. There was a large shower stall, single bathrooms, and large bunkbeds, all clean. 24/7 reception and you get one RFID card to unlock the front door, your shared room door, and your locker -very handy! The best part was that the hostel goes out at 11pm as a group to different clubs/bars and waives the cover. My first night (Tuesday) I arrived too late, but was able to go to the club, Shoko, and meet some American tourists that got me in without cover. The next night a group of 10 people left at 11:30pm to meet the other Sant Jordi hostel groups at a small bar, then moved to a club. I talked to many of the other travelers and they were mostly alone. Location was good for tourist activities, the public transport in Barca is incredible, and you can easily take a bus even late at night. Uber is not readily available, and Taxis end up being the same price, so just use a taxi (and practice your Spanish!).

Yelp
I can't get over how much I love this place. Amazing hostel experience. They take you on fun pub/club crawls every night. Then in the hostel they have dinner and drink nights. We had a paella night, which was the best Paella I ever had in my life! Who would think the best dish you'd have of something would be at a hostel?!?! And we had Sangria night, which was just as great! I love this place. It's clean, fun and has a good young crowd.

Yelp
I had a decent stay here. Best part are the lockers. You use a card to lock and open. Super easy and simple to use and you don't need to leave a deposit! Never worried about losing my valuables. The bed and linens were really clean which was the most important part for me. The staff were ok-- I had a pair of sandals go missing from my room. And while I understand it's a hostel and it's difficult to do something once it's gone missing -- the staff acted like they didn't really care. The WiFi was weak and kind of frustrating to use. I had to keep resigning in. The bathrooms could've been cleaner. They probably clean them once a day but I'd recommend twice or three times. The location is close to Sagrada Família but far from Gothic Quarter which is where I spent most of my time. I'd preferred to have stayed in a place closer.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. It was clean, safe, and amazingly priced. The location was, however, a bit removed from the thick of the action. It says Sagrada Familia, but it's actually several blocks from the cathedral itself. I rather liked having a quiet place to which to retire after a day of trolling around Barcelona, so the location can definitely be a good thing. There's an internet cafe a few blocks away where you can get your Skype on, and right across the street is a Consum Basic, which is basically a small grocery store with super reasonable prices. You can buy all the fixins for a good dinner (including wine, obvs) for less than 10 euros and then cook it all in your fully-stocked kitchen at Sant Jordi! I highly recommend this location of the Sant Jordi family, though I'm sure the others are just as great.

Yelp
Great, clean, fun hostel near Sagrada Familia! It's not exactly in the centre of the city but it's still a nice location for if you just need some time away from all that bustle of Barcelona, and it's only around a 10 minute walk from La Sagrada Familia, which is great if you're in love with the catedral. First of all it's really reasonably priced, but I guess I'm so used to seeing London hostel prices. I am not really a hostel-goer and I didn't feel like sleeping with 10 people for 4 nights so I actually opted for a single room - I know that's not how you're supposed to do it but I was travelling alone for a reason, to give myself some space! It was still really cheap and everything was super clean! The staff were really helpful and knew lots about the city, and they always put events on for people staying. They have a skate ramp as well which is really cool, and a nice lounge area with huge bean bags and a huge projector and screen so it's a nice place to both go to socialise but also to relax and watch a film when you just need to unwind. They also have a large communal kitchen and dining area which is kept really clean. The single rooms are also set in apartments with their own kitchens and lounge areas which is nice if you're nervous about someone nicking your food.

Yelp
This was my first time in Barcelona and first time staying at a hostel and I received the best service from Sant Jordi staff. The customer service and hospitality was amazing. I highly recommend it to those who want a fun environment. It's also a great way to meet friends from all over the world. Hillary helped us and she was so sweet and so helpful during our stay. I wish I extended my stay longer at Sant Jordi. It was one of my favorites (:

Yelp
Awesome staff and well organized hostel. However, we got a private room which was located on the next door's building. We stayed for 5 nights and every single morning I had trouble keeping my sanity together. We had a family staying in a room next door to ours with 2 kids and a baby. They would wake up early in the morning making all kinds of noises. I surely didn't expect to first, stay outside of the facility. And second, to stay in an apartment with people that didn't even seemed to be guests of the hostel. If you are sharing a room, I guess it's all right. But getting a private room? Don't recommend

Yelp
Had an awesome stay there over the summer! We were supposed to be couch surfing and our host ditched us, so we needed somewhere to stay last minute, preferably cheap, and had such a hard time finding anywhere because there was a festival that weekend. We found this place online and were expecting it to be an absolute dump because it was so cheap and the only place left. It was the farthest thing from it, we had a great time, very clean, people were nice, and the price was unbeatable. Definitely stay here!

Yelp
This hostel is great! They organize activities like dinners and pub crawls every night. It is a great place to meet people and find a good party. The only down side is that they do not have a rooftop pool alike the other location, but the prices are the same. If you like skateboarding this one is perfect tho, bc they even have ramps inside.
