The Golden Rules of Solo Travel

"Last summer, I traveled solo on the Amtrak Coastal Starlight from Santa Barbara to San Francisco and spent the entirety of the 9-hour journey in the communal observation lounge, where fellow travelers rotated in and out, sharing tables and playing cards while admiring the views. As the sun set on the second half of the trip, a few musically-inclined passengers formed an impromptu band complete with an acoustic guitar and mandolin. Word slowly spread and others trickled in from other parts of the train to take turns singing songs in different languages."

Located within walking distance of downtown Santa Barbara, the station is quiet and clean. There are great restaurants and cafés nearby, and a short walk takes you to the beach—it’s an ideal setting. We took the Amtrak from this station toward Monterey. Since the ticket counter opens late, it’s best to buy your tickets the day before. Arrival times can vary significantly, so it’s essential to check the train’s destination before boarding.

Santa Barbara what a beautiful city, also one of the most beautifulest beaches in the world! But most of all when you get the chance to experience the beautiful sunsets! Talk about an experience of a lifetime!

I like this place very much. It has an old-fashioned style. The staff is very patient. When I went there for the first time, I didn't know how to change buses. When I arrived at the destination, she taught me very patiently and helped me find the way. She was worried about me and personally came out to take me to the door. She didn't return to her work position until I saw the bus.

Went to Art Walk. Great works but VERY over priced. Still, interesting. Lunch at Harbor Restaurant. Very good but smaller portions. State Street always lots of fun. SB is a super town in many ways.

Super centrally located to the tasting rooms. However, our train was delayed almost an hour. We ended up getting back to LA at about 10:30pm. The process to board the late train was a bit chaotic.

Please be careful and only take trips with "no connection only" so you don't lose your money or get stranded without help.. Company employees are not dismissed for abandoning paid customers at night at transfer locations. Saw a driver working who did this. It happened more than once. Amtrak didn't used to do this. Maybe there's something wrong. Be careful.
