SANTA BARBARA CITY GUIDE

"In 1962, Pierre Lafond reestablished Santa Barbara County's winemaking tradition by founding Santa Barbara Winery. The winery was the first since prohibition and has played a pioneering role in the subsequent development of the Santa Ynez Valley as a world-class wine growing region. Pierre purchased land in 1971 on the western end of the valley and began planting what is now a 97.5 acre vineyard."

The Best Wine Tasting Rooms in Santa Barbara - AFAR

"As the county's oldest operating winery—founded in 1962 and responsible for planting one of the region's first vineyards in 1964—this Funk Zone tasting room offers barrel-side tastings and a wide portfolio ranging from classic chardonnays, pinot noirs and syrahs to less common varietals such as langrein and primativo." - Georgia Freedman

I have always been a fan of Santa Barbara Winery... back in the day, I used to come up here for their Riesling. They used to be a little sweeter than the current one on the list now but I had a taste of the Dry Riesling and it was crisp and complimentary to any spicy dish or refreshing enough for a summer meal. While I was there I also chose a 2018 Petit Verdot a lush red wine to which my daughter didn't waste any time trying... she gave it an enthusiastic THUMBS UP! If you like the Boudreaux region you should definitely try this one. If you happen to come up and find yourself wanting an impromptu picnic on the beach they have items here for your basket. Plenty of seating around the main tasting area with additional seating out on the deck with plenty of shade. Oh yea and high top tables inside as well. Respectfully Reviewed.

Google
Well this was my first time wine tasting. The staff gave me a menu and instructed me to choose 5 different wines. I explained I am a simple dude who drinks Coors Light and gets coffee from Arco. I asked them to choose for me which they were more than happy to do. My wife and I ended up buying two bottles of wine, some crackers, and a chocolate bar. The tasting area was very clean and nicely decorated, but oddly, the stools were plain metal and not very comfortable. All in all, I had a good time.

On Monday, April 7, I was visiting Santa Barbara from Oregon. A significant wine industry region. My daughter and I visited Santa Barbara Winery around 1pm. I was shocked for the poor winery service we received. The wine steward was rude treating us disrespectful, making rude comments about my ice cream, and neglecting us. Did not explained about the wine selection. She was not genuinely enjoying her job. She stated had no recommendation. "Red wine is red wine." She had no service etiquette. We walked away. Do the same walk away.

Google
Nice tasting Some tid bits available for purchase I was more interested in the wine - was on a walking wine tour with a complimentary glass of sauv blanc! Very nice very mild - perfect for an afternoon drink and experience. I will return! The nice thing about all these tasting rooms is that they are on the one street close, open and inviting!

Went wine tasting and tried the mixed flight of reds and whites. Loved the vibe and the experience. Great location in the heart of Santa Barbara's Funk Zone. Great wine.

Google
We loved our visit! My husband and I each tried different wines in our tastings, and everything was fantastic! They give you a separate glass to drink from instead of the little shot glasses.

Google
Great little spot to enjoy wine. My husband, puppy Fern, and I really enjoyed the sunshine and cold wine tastings. It was awesome to get to try all of theirs wines via tasting flights. Also, a pet friendly patio makes us happy! Really nice service and experience.

Google
Great wine, I was a club member there for 20+ years. Unlike their previous tasting room, this one does not allow dogs inside (which is why I dropped my membership), but there are places to sit outside.

Yelp
This is based off the taste of the wines. Very good. I've been drinking their wines for years and I love them! I bought two bottles and left. They don't seem to have the best customer service at the pick up location however, I love the wine! The tasting room is a great location and really cute.

Yelp
In Vino, Veritas! Ah...the allure of the vine. The orchestra of olfactory and tempered taste of the grape, the air, the soil and the ferment. An exploration of the nectar of the grape gods. This is the motivation that moved us to venture to Santa Barbara Winery in what is known as The Zone of Funk in this fair city. A friend and I entered the epicurean establishment. We were greeted a bit coldly initially, but the service grew warmer from there. We sat outside on their lovely astroturf and shaded patio and were given a list of myriad varieties to choose from, instructed to select 5. I went the "reds" route while my companion went for the "whites". Our 5 choices were numbered and placed in glasses in a wooden flight holder. As veteran imbibers, we appreciated this win-win tasting strategy. We could try wines at our own pace and chat without interruption or waiting for the next pour, and employees also don't have to check on patrons constantly. Bonus: they provide welcome oyster crackers as a palate cleanser. If one was an amateur imbiber, wishing to acquire the knowledge of each varietal from the "wine seller" (pun utterly intended) then this set up may not be as desirable. In this case, one could sit inside at the bar for a more personal and informational vino experience. Together, we enjoyed most of the tastings on offer, but the Granache/Syrah was our ultimate favourite. .

Yelp
It was my first time in Santa Barbara and went to this establishment to try wine ,was greeted by white elderly male who said welcome in have a sit will come find you after 30 minutes we left. Not sure if it was a racial bias or bad customer service he came outside and brought 2 ladies their order never acknowledged us.

Yelp
Excellent service and great wine! That pretty much sums it up. I highly recommend visiting this tasting room if you're in the area. The friendly staff is rivaled only by the quality of wine. 5 stars!

Yelp
We stopped here as we were walking Funk Zone and we were greeted with "we are closing in 15 minutes" immediately we felt unwanted and as if we were bothering them. We asked if we could get a glass of wine and we were told.... "It would have to be something of what we already have open" ummm... What if we don't like or want what's open is what we asked and we were told that they would not open a different bottle because they were closing in 15 minutes. Now the entire tasting room was packed with people and the other lady working there was gladly serving other people and even opened a new bottle of wine. I don't want to say it was because we are of a different race but that is definitely how it felt. We have since gone back to funk zone a couple of times and this place was not one of our stops. It is sad because the environment felt fun and inviting. We not only felt unwanted and uncomfortable with our interaction with this employee she made us feel very disrespected. We will not support this business in any way. We always give places a second chance but not when we get treated as if we do not belong.

Yelp
This is a cute little winery located in the "funk zone" of Santa Barbara. It was a beautiful day and my group and I sat outside with a couple of our pups to enjoy our tasting. We were started off with a sheet that you write your name on and check off the 5 wines you'd like to taste- we all chose the reds. It's only $15 for a tasting and bottle purchases are all very reasonably priced as well. We enjoyed each wine and bought a couple of bottles to enjoy later on at home. They weren't serving food, but maybe they'll bring back their cheese boards soon- fingers crossed! We'll be back for a visit the next time we're in the area!

Yelp
Great place for wine tasting with an overall good vibe. It was highly recommended by a friend. It helped that we met a couple while there who were members and therefore friendly with our server. Otherwise, our greeting was lukewarm with a firm reminder that they close at 6:00 pm and the time of their last pour. Fair enough since we arrived about 5:00. I tried four reds and one rose. All of the reds were really good but if I had to name a favorite, it would be the Grenache but again all we're good. The rose was ehh to not good at all. A bit too watery and citrusy for my taste. Given the time of day, I felt like the pours were coming pretty fast with little time to clear my pallet, and no nibbles to help with that but overall, it was a great experience. I hope they consider remaining open at least until 7pm. It's a great wind down spot.

Yelp
Fun, relaxing wine tasting experience in a casual setting. $20/flight of 5 wines. My husband and I enjoyed the wine and friendly staff. Bring cash for the tip jar

Yelp
Santa Barbara Winery truly captivates the palate with its remarkable selection of wines. Each sip unveils a symphony of flavors, from the lush notes of their reds to the crisp elegance of the whites. The attention to detail in crafting these wines is evident, creating a memorable tasting experience that lingers long after the glass is empty. A visit to Santa Barbara Winery is a must and leaves us eager to return.

Yelp
$15 for 5 tastings! Love the variety of reds and whites. Our favorite was the 2016 petitVerdon, a super flavorful and dry red wine. Can't wait to have it with some steak! Great customer service. Would come back again!

Yelp
A very romantic place. My husband and I went to Santa Barbara for a quick get away. Had the most amazing time exploring Santa Barbara! This winery is the classic most obvious place to go for people who love wine! My husband is a wine expert as he likes call himself. It was an experience for me. A wonderful experience. thank you Santa Barbara winery for making us feel at home.

Yelp
$20 for a 5 wine choose your own adventure flight. Really good wine--liked it enough to buy 10 bottles. Recommend the reserve can sav, petit Verdot and any of the Pinots. Friendly staff and good location right in the funk zone. Would go again.

Yelp
Short version: this establishment was fully pre-paid and rudely turned us away. When our group arrived late, Suzanne greeted us at the street and proceeded to yell at all of us, in front of other Customers, instead of taking our guide aside and handing the situation with maturity and some discretion. "You're late, I've been calling you for two hours!" This would turn out to be a lie: our tour guide had her phone in her hand for the last two hours and received no call; furthermore, another person in our guide's organization was called only a few minutes before our arrival. Perhaps a blessing in disguise, the energy she possesses is ugly.

Yelp
After wandering around the Funk Zone trying to choose where to stop, we chose this winery. It was a great choice! We liked every wine we tasted on our flight and spent a couple hours enjoying some wine, the atmosphere, and conversation with the other patrons. Missy took great care of us, and she was fun to talk with. Next time we are in Santa Barbara we will definitely visit again.

Yelp
I was passing through Santa Barbara. Prior to getting into Los Angeles traffic , I needed some motivation, encouragement and willpower. This establishment did the trick. Nice selection of both local reds and whites. Good service, good knowledge of the wines.

Yelp
The wine was good and the staff was friendly. The tasting room was very cute with lots of little gifts and merchandise.

Yelp
I have visited SB Winery over the years and love their selection! They had a tasting menu you could select from. It was amazing since we had friend who only drank whites or only red, I loved the options. The wines were great also. The staff was friends and kind. Overall they are one of my favorite wineries in Santa Barbara. Such a staple !

Yelp
We went for a group tasting with 20 people and we had a wonderful time. The wines were great and the tasting per person was fairly priced for 5 wines! Suzanne was a lovely host and I made sure our group was well taken care of. I definitely recommend!

Yelp
So glad we came here with our group of 8 ladies this weekend. The tasting room was nice/new and felt more like a room in Los Olivos than the Funk zone to me....also a little older crowd (which was fine with us)! I liked that you could pick which wines to taste and we received great service from 3 different ladies pouring. Thanks SB Winery!

Emilia R.

Yelp
SB Winery has a beautiful tasting room and perfect location! The tasting offers a vast selection of reds and whites, plenty to choose from. Kind and knowledgeable staff. Definitely worth the visit!!
