Santa Catalina, a Royal Hideaway Hotel (Gran Canaria, Canary Islands) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Since opening its doors in 1890, the luxurious Santa Catalina has been a symbol of refinement in Las Palmas, playing host to the likes of Winston Churchill, Maria Callas, and the Spanish royal family. The oldest hotel in the Canary Islands is still one of the best, and extravagant renovations by the Barceló Hotel Group have put a new shine on the silver and a new polish on the marble. Some things haven’t changed: the hotel’s pale pink façade, a colorful Spanish art collection, a traditional English afternoon tea served in a wood-paneled salon. And while guest rooms and suites retain their compact original dimensions, they’ve been smartly refreshed. Added inducements include an oceanview infinity pool, a stylish rooftop bar, a state-of-the-art spa, and a one-MICHELIN-Star restaurant called Poemas." - Tablet Hotels

My sister and I came to Gran Canaria for the first time and honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely taken care of. The hotel was stunning, genuinely something out of a dream. What really made it special were the people, every single member of staff was so kind, so warm, and genuinely helpful — nothing was ever too much. Any question we had, any little thing we needed, they were always happy to help. They made us feel seen and well looked after. The little touches were everything — from the chocolates left on our bed (so cute!) to the friendly chats and thoughtful service. There was an amazing perfumery in the hotel, live music, the spa/pools and breakfast was next level. They had little turtles there as well, which made it feel so calm and special. The service, food and overall vibe was immaculate. This wasn’t just a trip — it was an experience we’ll always carry with us. We already know one thing for sure; we’re coming back here, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else. The hotel, the staff, the whole energy — it’s unforgettable. Thank you so much to all the staff for being so beautiful and making our time so special. You really made our trip something we’ll treasure forever - We can’t wait to see you again soon ❤️ With all our love, Shola-Ray & Chanté Kaur

Just spent three nights here with my family and we had a wonderful stay! Our room was nice and clean, and the staff were incredibly polite and helpful. The breakfast was very good, though do note it's €25 per person. We also enjoyed the beautiful hotel and nice swimming pool. Just remember that extras like the wellbeing center and parking (€20 per day) come at an additional cost. Highly recommend!

Me and my husband have just spent a week here and can’t speak highly enough of this hotel! From the minute you arrive it is pure luxury. Incredible staff, lovely food and drinks, the pool area is amazing - special mention to the pool bar staff for being so accommodating- and beautiful rooms. We can’t wait to stay here again!

It’s a charming boutique-style hotel, but it’s starting to show its age — small issues in the room like the soap holder falling off can be a bit annoying. The biggest frustration was discovering that the beautiful pool shown online is only available to guests staying in suites. If you want to use the pool, be sure to book a suite! Very good breakfast and everyone is very nice !

The worst place I have ever stayed If you are a foreigner and want to have a nice holiday, stay away from this place! My wife and I stayed at Santa Catalina, a Royal Hideaway Hotel for five nights and regret it so badly. They charge for everything, even €5 for bringing empty bowls to our room. For a “5-star” hotel, that’s ridiculous. The room was not what they advertised—small, limited storage, and nothing like the photos. The rooftop pool they heavily advertise is only for “VIP clients” and the water is freezing. Breakfast was okay, but the buffet was limited and à la carte dishes came in tiny portions. There is no daily free water or anything you would expect from a typical 5-star hotel. The spa area is very small and you can only spend 80 minutes there. Parking is €20 per day, no valet, and the garage is so cramped it took 15–20 minutes to park. This hotel is basically a cash grab place with a lot of hidden charges. They treat guests like walking credit cards. On the first day, I had an accident with the parking barrier and immediately informed reception. Days later, the guest manager called me in—not to discuss or resolve—but to threaten me with the police if I didn’t pay. Never have I been treated like this at a 5-star hotel. They even claimed to have fixed the barrier, but they hadn’t which they acknowledged only later. The staff try their best, but poor management—especially from the deputy general manager and guest experience manager—completely ruins the place. Unsympathetic, unprofessional, arrogant and with no service mindset at all. They were lecturing us in the lobby in front of all other guests. They were treating us not like guests but rather as a burden. The worst experience I ever had in my life, I got a much better service at 3-star hotels. It’s a shame because the building is beautiful, but management destroys the experience. There are much better places in Gran Canaria. Avoid this hotel at any cost if you want a peaceful and relaxing holiday! Sämsta stället vi har någonsin varit på! Undvik detta hotell om ni vill ha en bra semester. De försöker ta betalt för allting även de små sakerna. Plus management är riktigt arroganta och otrevliga och behandlar kunderna på uselt sätt. My additional answer: Now I have received a very generic response from the hotel saying that my review is not objective and they did nothing wrong. This so-called 5-star hotel still insists that their treatment was fair and they did nothing wrong. Of course, I did inform the reception the very first day about the incident with the barrier and I certainly stopped at the reception to pay for parking before leaving the hotel. I waited for over 10 minutes to pay for the parking. But at the end I just left since no one was there to accept the payment and later on my credit card got charged for parking. Avoid this place at any cost, especially if you expect to be treated as a dear and welcomed guest.

We booked the Hotel Santa Catalina for one night originally and after an incredibly warm welcome immediately booked a second night. Our room was immaculate, the rooftop bar was outstanding, with top notch service and a great selection of well made drinks. The aperol spritz was great. On our second night we ate at the restaurant la bodeguita, again, outstanding service and exceptional food. Overall an amazing experience and we will be back very soon

The hotel is absolutely great! The team has organised so warm and unforgettable bday congratulations for my twins daughters. Thank you so much! Also I would really recommend to take the Half Board plan. The food was excellent both times and we are absolutely pleased with it!

The hotel is such a beautiful place with such incredible pools and bars. The staff for the most part will go above and beyond to cater for your needs. The breakfast is incredible with so many choices you feel completely spoiled. The restaurants though can be hit and miss. The grounds are colourfully lit with ambiance everywhere.

Yelp
Pretty nice hotel in Las Palmas. An old Spanish hotel that proactively lays out tooth-brushes, combs, q-tips, and everything you need when travelling and you don't have your bags with you / are too lazy to unpack. The front patio of the restaurant is very comfortable for some peanuts and a drink.

Yelp
I stayed here on my last holiday. On first impressions, the hotel is beautiful to look at. It looks really grand and 'posh.' I only stayed a couple of days so I spent a lot of my time at the hotel, as it was just a little relaxing break. On my first day I had an amazing breakfast followed by an equally amazing massage! Even though I only stayed a couple of days I had one of the most lovely relaxing breaks ever. My room and the rest of the hotel was lovely and the staff were so attentive and welcoming. Would love to go back.
