It seems like whenever and whereever we travel, hubby and I seem to find year-round Christmas stores. Our extensive inventory of holiday decor would prove that as well.
For some reason we lived within two hours of Santa Claus, IN for three years and never visited this cute little town... but recently we visited a resort nearby and opted for a different route home and stopped in.
This town has of course the tremendous Holiday World and Splashin' Safari, so most folks who visit the town are probably there for the rides. On the year-round Christmas store front.. this place is nice, but I was hoping for more from a town bearing St. Nick's name.
It's not small, don't get me wrong, but Pigeon Forge's Incredible Christmas Place has them beat by a mile... and we've visited larger stores I can recall near Wilmington, NC as well. Again, it's nice - I was just hoping for more.
Their in-house Santa is excellent, and their cafe is always baking cookies and heating cinammon nuts, both of which we had to purchase of course.
There were some nice decor pieces I considered, some of the best-looking fake candles I've seen anywhere - but they started at $45 for a medium size votive. They have a nice selection of Mr. Christmas pieces, some of which I had never seen before - but we are so lacking on tabletop space during the holidays I resisted.
The store is located in a strip mall, which is too bad - they really could have done so much more in an old house or someplace that looked like an old house. The town has an inn across the street that again was just not cute, considering everything they could have done for Santa's Inn in Santa Claus, IN.
What I will continue to do is have my Christmas cards cancelled in their post office. They do a lovely hand stamp that is different each year, and a nice tradition for our friends and family.
